Then you can store them in the storage area behind the seats. Sorry about that! When I filmed this video, The new Ford Ranger hadn’t officially been tested for reviews...but now it has. Can this 2019 Tacoma still be the sales king for mid sizers? Let me know what you think and tell me if you want a Ford Ranger review!
I'm definitely in the market for mid size right now. And its either the taco or the new Ranger. I did own a ranger overseas with the 3.2 diesel and it was a great truck. I had a quick test drive on the taco last week (limited) and the transmission is indeed a mess. I like the way the interior/exterior looks on the taco. But the back seat is a bit small. But the seat folds flat which is something I would like. From looking at some of the road tests today on the Ranger the throttle response and transmission seem to perform so much better then this train wreak. Just from seeing this video and the ranger I'm pretty sure the ranger will be a full second quicker to 60 if not more. But whats important is the 10 speed in the ranger seems to work as it should. It finds the right gear for the situation. Whearas this 6 speed in the taco seems to search gears or shift early or not hold the overdrive gear and fall back to 4th gear. For me, this is almost showstopper issues. And it may just be the reason I won't buy the Taco. The Ranger is a bit plain but it can be dressed up a bit. My heart really wants the taco. It looks damn good and I love the colors. But functionally, the Ranger is going to destroy this thing in most metrics that can be measured. What I want is the taco with the Hilux 2.8 diesel in it (overseas Toy motor). Can i have that? LOL
Very well said! I know exactly what you’re feeling with the two trucks! It’s a real shame the transmission isn’t what it should be, it’s kinda scary. Ship a Hilux over here, swap the Powertrain and call it good lol
That’s great to hear! I’m not sure what was going on. I tested a 2017 model just like this and don’t remember any strange behavior. Glad to hear yours is good!
@@michaelpawluk6791 Same here - mine is a 2019 TRD OR DCSB Auto....no issues with shifting either...I bought this about a month ago and have over 5K miles - I travel daily up and down mountainous highway/small road terrain (85%) as well as small town driving. I must say the 4WD capabilities are terrific too. We own a horse farm - on a river (which is flooded at the moment) - and we could not be more pleased with the overall performance/capability of this little truck. I'm averaging 20 - 21 MPG on each tank of gas...that is actually better than I expected.
AmpogDema808 makes sense to me buddy, you probably almost broke even after driving it for 2 years. The only thing that kills me is MPG it’s thirsty, hence the Corolla ?
Deborah chesser yes you are absolutely right, my taco was a gas guzzler!! But my Corolla on the other hand is amazing on gas👍🏽don't get me wrong I miss my taco I might get a 2020 depending if they change the design a bit.
Honest review. I got 2017 Off-road 4x4 with premium package. It's been over a year now and haven't regretted at all. Great trucks. Of course not cheap and don't offer some fancy features, but I would take reliability and longevity over anything, plus the best resale value in its category is just added bonus. As for upgrades, I swapped the headlights to HIDs and fog lights to LEDs, also upgraded the stock wheels and tires to 4Runner Off-road premium 17" wheels and Falken Wildpeak tires. I love the truck and will keep it till kids grow bigger then eventually upgrade it to a Tundra (when that gets redesigned).
That’s awesome, I’m really glad to hear that! I’m with you 100% on the reliability and resale value. My choice would be Tacoma for those reasons (even though I nitpicked in the video). Sweet additions too...what brand HID and LEDs did you go with? Can’t wait to see the new Tundra...I think it’s going to shake things up! Thanks for sharing and enjoy your Taco!
I bought one (profile pic) which is the best purchase I have ever made. No issues, is beast when off roading, and is great for towing. I live in the city so a small truck was perfect. Never really care what people say about the transmission - it’s not that big of a deal. You’re sitting in a commanding seat and the truck is itching to go off road. Changed headlights and fogs to LED and added ditch lights. This truck should last 15 years+. The car has Bluetooth and nav what more do you want. Spent $240 on changing all 6 speakers which sounds better than JBL package.
That’s awesome! Nice color choice too 👍. The Taco is an awesome truck...I was kind of hard on it in the video nitpicking but like you said it’s a beast and gives you everything you need. Good idea with the LED and stereo! Happy to hear it and enjoy man!
I did that with my 2008 tacoma. Took them off the 2nd week I bought it. It was makes driving so much easier. I just put them back on when I have passengers in the back
You’re welcome! As I was with the Tacoma I just felt like Toyota was holding back and that definitely came out while I was talking. Thanks for watching!
this is literally the exact model and trim i'm looking at. we're also the same height. i need a long bed to fit at least half of my 12.5 ft kayak. seems legit.
I bought this Sunday- short bed, same color. I had not intended to buy a new one...but after driving it and then realizing a used one (2016 or newer with under 30k) was going to cost 30k...I offered 34400 on this truck (short bed), they took it. My I’m thrilled!
ENJOY - I bought my 2019 in Jan - I already have 15K on it...I drive a lot and we own a horse farm (on a river) so I use it a LOT (the 4WD capabilities are TERRIFIC and the Crawl Control is NOT a gimmick). I have 4 vehicles - this is actually the least expensive of them and it has turned out to be my favorite vehicle BY FAR. One thing that you may want to consider is the glove box and the center console organizer - they helped me a lot. Get it out in the woods and use it - you will love it.
Thanks for the review.. I just bought one last night at local dealership. I had a really good trade and bought the stripped down version of this, meaning no leather or heated seat, nor the tech package with the fancy GPS. Total sticker 37 and change, but with trade in I paid 22 and change. I also got this color. Not into the tactical colors. I was in the military and drove way to many tactical GOV's.
Hey man! Thank you very much, appreciate the input! Forrest from Forrest’s Auto Reviews and I are teaming up to do a TRD Pro mashup with the Taco and 4Runner models in January so we will our that ground clearance to the test!
Just got the SR5 double cab version with long bed yesterday. I’m very short (5’3”) and was pleasantly surprised that the seating position is just fine for me. No problems seeing over the hood, etc..
There's nothing disappointing about not having LED headlights or rear drum breaks, none of these reviews seem to talk about the quality and how well built the Toyota's are, my new Ford was a rattle bucket the day I brought it home and after driving a new Colorado I'm really glad I now own a 3rd gen. Tacoma...best truck ever and I've had many!
Even though adding LED or HID isn’t expensive, they make a big difference. My wife and I both drive Toyota’s and I swapped the halogen for LED and it’s so much better...in 2019 I’d expect that to be offered since the base model Corolla even gives you LED. The brakes aren’t a big deal to me either though. Can’t argue with Toyota quality that’s for sure! Happy to hear your experience with the Tacoma!
I replied earlier (new subscriber here) - @@PrimeAutotainment ...I bought this truck last night - where did you buy the LED headlights? Can you provide a link please?
I love mine and I wouldn't trade it for any of the Chevy's or Fords that I've owned, my son has a new Chevy Colorado, I love some of it's technology, but the quality of the truck is just not there, Tacoma is a small truck and should be compared to trucks in it's class.
Thanks for the sub! And glad to hear about your new truck! I got the “cougar motor” brand LEDs on Amazon. BUT...if I was going to do it again I would probably get HID because I hear they are better aftermarket if you have projector housing like this does. Check out TRD Jon’s TH-cam channel...he has a 4Runner and has tried out both LED and HID in his vehicle so you can see the difference. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your new truck! 👍
In my province of Ontario, Canada this truck on the dealer lot is $57,000!!!! That just insane for a truck without even power seats, rear drum breaks need to go, front locker needed, auto start needed, Toyota needs to step up their game if they want this truck to stay in the #1 spot
Wow that stinks. Definitely too much money. I agree with those things, it would be great. Irk why they haven’t done those things already...with the new Ranger maybe Toyota will step it up but we’ll see.
$57,000 in Ontario????? (BTW everyone...we are talking about the Canadian dollar here...which as of this writing, is worth about 75 cents US) Move to BC my friend....I just bought this exact same truck without the leather seats upgrade for $40,500 C (that’s equivalent to 30,600 US) in Surrey. The leather upgrade option for theTRD OffRoad was an additional 4K if I remember which I did not like, as it wasn’t really a true full leather...the centre is fabric.. I’m getting a local installer to install full custom Katzkin leather for 1700 bucks.
Prime Autotainment ....Took the Ranger for a demo ride....felt too much like my wife’s Macan...went with the Taco. Even without the power seats and power folding mirrors and with drum brakes and hard plastic interior...it just felt more of a real truck capable of so much more real truck ability, especially off road. I think the Ranger is going to cater to mostly wannabee off roaders who will end up never leaving hard pavement.
Ive got a 2019 trd off road 109k bought at 80k miles, ive noticed the sluggish shifting when going up hills and on the highway. Really the only thing i dont like about mine but overall been a good truck so far.
the reason the rear brakes are drum is for off road use to keep the sand, gravel, stones out of brake calipers which is a very big issue when off road, drums are better in this application and factory testing shows their to be little difference in stopping distance
Thank you for this video, I was thinking about pulling the trigger and buying one, but Toyota definitely needs to step it up when it comes to driver features and assists, feels like a truck from 2010.
I’ve always loved Tacomas, and I was on the fence with my decision between the Tacoma and the Frontier Pro-4x. I ended up going with the Frontier, and I’m very glad I did. I love the Taco, and it looks great, but it didn’t have everything I wanted without going full-size. Cost wasn’t an issue, as the Pro-4X I got was roughly the same price of similar TRDs in my area. But I found that I would be paying for items in the Taco that I didn’t want, while missing certain items that the Frontier already had. I didn’t like that the Tacoma has a plastic/composite bed, but I liked that the Nissan’s bed is steel. I definitely didn’t like the seating position in the Tacoma, but the Frontier fits my height much better. Also, the Taco is underpowered for my tastes. I live in an area with a lot of steep hills, and coming from a ‘97 Ford with a V8, I prefer something “punchy”. The Tacoma’s power really felt slow and outdated. The turning radius and the lighter steering in the Tacoma are better than in the Frontier, in my opinion. I’m sure the Ranger and Colorado are nice, but I’m not a fan of GM or modern-day Ford. Too much tech that’ll just make it hard to maintain 15 years from now. And before anyone wants to bring up “Nissan transmissions”… the issue that Nissan had with their transmissions was solely from the CVT units they put in their cheap cars and crossovers. The Frontier has never been equipped with a CVT. Also, from 2010 and up, Nissan separated the transmission cooler from the radiator, which prevented potential issues there.
Toyota needs to update the infotainment system and ditch the drums and put disk brakes in the rear. Hopefully the 2020 model will resolve these issues.
M D sadly the 2020 will still have the old 80s drum brakes and that weak 3.5 v6. The only upgrades are electric seats and Apple play in the sound system. 50k to boot! Too high of a price for so little. Toyota has officially pissed me off with their audacity.
Great, unexpected review! I’ve always loved the Tacoma. I always like driving them when we get them at the lot (although I will say I like the 2005-2014 body better). I really like this blue color, but the burnt orange is my all time favorite. I totally agree with your view on the seats. That’s my main complaint with the truck . I also don’t think the interior is as nice as the older design either. The Tacoma needs a redesign, but it’s legendary reliability, durability, and resale value will keep buyers coming. I like the fact that the safety tech is included. GM makes you buy a high trim to even be able to option it in on the Colorado/Canyon and the Ranger will probably be similar. If I was buying one, I think I’d get a burnt orange TRD-Sport with the 6-speed manual. I like the looks of the new Ranger and can’t what to see what it’s all about. Get us a review!
Thanks man! I agree and really like last gen too. The TRD sport is good looking and a nice spec, especially the fact the 6 speed manual is available, that’s really nice. I’m hoping to get a Ranger as soon as it’s available at the dealer or press, either way. Thanks again!
Just purchased a 2019 Off-road TRR double cab, long bed in cement. I am so excited except the driver seat being adjustable. I will say, it’s a beautiful truck and I am very happy, but do feel it’s a bit outdated in some ways, but it will hold its value and drive for a long time. Over all, super happy!
That’s awesome, glad to hear it! Yeah that’s a bummer about it but once you get used to it hopefully your comfortable. Thanks for watching and enjoy your truck!
Thanks for the review. I have the 2019 TRD in manual. It's lacking torque. Period. But, I still enjoy it, and the back end on the highway is really good for passing and accelerates nicely in 5th/6th gear. But out of first gear...yikes. I still really enjoy my Tacoma's though and this is my 3rd one.
That’s awesome, good choice on the manual too. Glad to hear you’re enjoying it...I was kind of hard in it but still like it and it’s such a solid choice! Thanks for sharing and happy to hear from you. Hope you continue to enjoy it!
I'm getting a 2020 trd off-road long bed when they hit dealers this fall. I'm holding out for the led headlights and power seat that were part of the refresh. EDIT: I forgot the main feature I'm excited for... android auto is finally coming to the tacoma!
LOLOL Nolan :)). When you opened the center console and I seen the white tissues, for a split second I thought they were white socks. I said to myself, that’s a odd place to put his socks. Hahaha. Thanks for a Splendid Review Mr. Going quickly up tp 10K Subs. I never seen anyone climb so fast. ***WOW***
Just got cement gray 2019 TRD Off-road. Got the manual transmission. Didn't think about it, but there's no crawl control or multi terrain select with manual. Totally makes sense, though. Manual is worth it, in my opinion!
That was a great review, thank you. I'm considering the Tacoma, but I think I may need to explore some of the other mid-size pickups now because I just want a reliable truck with 4-wheel drive. Would you have a good alternative recommendation to the Tacoma...the Nissan Pro 4X, the Chevy Colorado, or GMS Canyon? Or just one of the other available trims of the Taco?
Thank you! I know if someone that just recently got a loaded Nissan Frontier 4x4 for a good price. It’s got a solid Powertrain. I like the GM midsize trucks...they have a good balance of features and capability. I haven’t heard much about their reliability lately so don’t know how they are doing in that regard. Depending on your desired features...you could move up or down the trim line for the Taco and it’s still a super solid 4x4. My biggest thing with the Taco is the way the transmission acts sometimes...but it’s something you get used to. Good luck with your search! Another thing...I think the GM trucks offer an “Automatic 4x4” mode that engages 4wd the second it senses slippage then disengages it when not needed so there is no binding or damage. I found that system really helpful up north with patchy ice and snow roads where full time 4x4 wasn’t necessary. Tacoma doesn’t offer the automatic 4x4 mode. Something to consider
Prime Autotainment Thanks again! That is super helpful to know about the Tacoma not having the automatic 4x4. I'm going to explore the GM line a little more. 👍🏻
kodemunkey no problem! It’s handy to have with slippery weather. If you’re not hauling heavy loads or really off roading...the Ridgeline would be worth a look. Quiet, comfortable, smooth Powertrain and permanent AWD. Not sure if that would be something you’d like. Each brand offers its own thing...if you end up getting something I’d love to hear about it!
When we first see the color, my brother called it ' Periwinkle blue'. Depending on which way the light hits it, you can almost pick out the gay! I don't personally dislike the color but after hearing that comment, I would have to grab the dark gray or silver, since the really nice blue is not available in TRD sport.
I’m not a big Toyota fan BUT this truck is stylish and I’m sure very practical. I actually don’t mind that gauge cluster. I’m more a simple guy so I don’t mind it. Those touch sensitive buttons on the touch screen sucks. I’d prefer actual buttons around the touch screen. Other than those things, it looks and sounds like a great vehicle. Oh, I’m also very short so idk if I’d be able to find a good seat position. Awesome review!
Glad to hear from ya! Agreed on the touch buttons, it’s weird because Toyota has real buttons on other vehicles...not sure what their thought was doing this on a truck. The seating is a bummer...a lot of people could benefit from moving the seats, oh well. Thanks for watching and the input, always appreciate it! 👍
Great video. Unless you take the truck on a race track where you are constantly slowing down into corners from high speeds, you will not notice the difference with having drums in the rears. In fact, the drums shoes last longer.
The 2019 Ranger and the upcoming mid sized Ram will make it even harder for me to decide. I can't just blindly get the Tacoma based on resale value and precieved quality, I would have to make several concessions that I'm not sure I could live with in the long term.
That’s tough to tell at 6’3”. I would imagine it would be tight for you but it would be best to try one out yourself. As for snow I haven’t driven it in snow lol. Too bad 😕
You got yourself a sweet truck! Agreed on the manuals lol. Let me know if you check out TRD Jon youtube channel and if you go for LED or HID. I like my LEDs...but they’re not quite as good as stock LEDs on some of the newer vehicles I’ve been in
Prime Autotainment went to his channel- honestly I’m not having any trouble with the stock headlights...again I’m older and don’t drive a lot at night- so I’ll probably stay with these.
@@PrimeAutotainment Just wanted to give you an update - I bought this truck new in Jan 19....I now have 74K miles on it, with lots of that in 4x4. This truck has been wonderful!!!!
$50k for a 2020 TRD Pro Tacoma that has a 1990s interior, drum brakes, horrible seating position, horrible fuel mileage, and street tires. I get the whole reliability thing, but there are a lot of options in the midsize market that offer way more for your money. The only reason why these trucks hold their value so well is tribalism.
I paid $31,500 for a brand new ‘19 TRD 4x4 OR, Give Me The VIN offered me $33,600 with 12,000 miles. I’m not looking to sell but was curious. Something to seriously consider; outside of it capability.
I'm having a hard time with the blue. Sometimes I look at it and really like it, other times it strikes me as awful. BTW, I went with a 2010 OR in the Cement color. Seems like everyday I get a complement on the truck. My second choice was the Quicksand. Love the truck.
Love that cement color! That and quicksand stand out and look good. The Blue definitely looks different with sun, shade, and darkness so it’s tricky. Thanks for the input and watching!
Why does every reviewer seem to get blueballs and bitch about No LED lights don't they realize they blind the shit out of normal people??? From my experience they're like permanent high beams.
They’re only blinding if they aren’t aimed properly or out into the wrong type of house (like old reflectors) where it stays light everywhere. New headlight housings have strict cutoff lines to prevent light from blinding people. LED and HID give so much better visibility and distance
I love Toyota, I have had 2 Tacoma’s. A 99 and a 05 and loved them both, but that being said I was so frustrated with the 3rd gen because of how lazy Toyota is. Projector headlights, drum rear brakes, horrendous driving position with no power adjustments. JBL so called “premium” sound system is gutless, and don’t even get me started on the 3.5 Atkinson v6. The v6 has ample power for daily driving, but coming from the 4.0 it’s a night and day difference how much slower the 3rd gen is. Plus the transmission just wanders. I ended up in a 2018 4runner, because I just refused to pay 40 grand for the new tacoma with all these shortcomings. I didn’t mind it in the 99 when I paid 18k and the 05 28k, but Toyota needs to step the fuck up because the midsize market is getting competitive again, and if their not careful they could end up at the bottom.
Well said...they’re capable of better and they know it. It has so much potential..but like you said they got lazy. Good choice on the 4Runner..it’s simple but badass and rugged but still comfortable. Enjoy it!
18k in 1999 is 27k today. They also didnt have as many tech or safety features. Not saying they arent overpriced but your point of spending 18k in 99 doesnt help your argument.
GTboosted you completely missed my argument, it’s not entirely about the price. In 99 the Tacoma was not the leader in tech and safety, and my ride quality was horrendous compared to the ranger and Dakota that I was looking at then. But what made the Tacoma appealing to me was that it was the cheapest. In 05 the Tacoma was really the only midsize truck that was worth a shit, and plus the price was low. Now rounding third base here and getting to my argument. The midsize market is really competitive now, and there are other trucks that are a lot better especially the Colorado. I damn near bought a Colorado because I was so impressed by that truck, substantially more room in the cab, powerful v6, power seats, apple car-play, cooled seats which isn’t even an option on the tacoma. I live in Florida where cooled seats are essential in the summer time, my point is the Tacoma is a good truck, but it could have been the best if Toyota really put their all into it. Plus the trd off road I looked at was 41k msrp, but I could probably get it for 35 or 36 but the competition offers a better daily commuter for the same price. Because if we are honest everybody spends 70% of the time on the road.
I also owned a 2007 and now own a new to me 2015 tacoma trd off road. The 3rd gen drove and felt different. Although the newer tech and advances as well as looks are nice. Toyota takes advantage of their brand and skim on things such as brakes.
Thanks Michael! I’ve always liked Tacoma’s..and still do but I wish they would have improved a few things. Everyone I know that has a newer or older one love them though
Steve o - drum brakes are never better. no rally car or trophy truck or landcruiser or raptor have drum brakes. drum brakes are a cost cutting move, nothing more
I'm going to pick up my Tacoma Saturday a simple white trd off road double cab for 34k talked them down from 38,500 I hope this is a good decision for 20 year old me im just sick of driving my 2013 spark and almost dyeing in the winter.
That’s awesome, I’m sure you’ll love it. It’s a solid truck and resale value is incredible. It’ll definitely be better than the Spark. Glad to hear it and hope you enjoy it!
You should do fine. Have it rust proofed every season so there will still be a truck to enjoy later. Ahhh! I hope I catch you before you buy the white one. I really regret buying a white vehicle 3 years ago as the brake dust leaves spots all over the paint that looks amazingly like rust spots. It's a pain in the ass to remove and looks like shit. I'm never buying a white vehicle again.
I have a 2016 in Inferno the truck hasn't changed that much except for Toyota Safety Sense rear window is electric now They discontinued the Inferno for 2019 I get more complements on the color than anything
The correct mindset is not whether I'd spend more, it's whether the dealer will take less. The value of a vehicle is what you say it is, not what the manufacturer or the dealer or kelly blue book or anyone else says it is. Lots of consumers walk into dealerships and are owned by them shortly afterwards.
Excellent point. MSRPs are pointless, especially when cross shopping brands. People seem to always go in with a monthly payment mindset and like you said, game over after that. Thanks for the input and watching!
@@Shakerhood69 actually cars.com has Tacoma at 147ft and Colorado at 140. This was an actual test not data from mfr. Still not having disc for a performance touted truck is frustrating. Don't get me wrong i love Toyotas. I currently own one and wanted to buy a Taco until I test drove one and was thoroughly disappointed. I am looking at the the new Rangers.
The last time I remember checking stats the OR Tacoma was 124 feet from 60, and the Z71 OR Colorado was 132 from 60. You could also be right on what you found but either way they are very close.
@@Shakerhood69 as a diy guy I prefer to work on disc. For me they are easier to work on and I feel they have better modulation. Drums I've had we're very difficult having to hammer off the drum after they sieze from getting rusted.
I have a 2017 Tacoma limited with a 3" leveling kit which the dealer installed during break in I did have issues with the transmission I ended up switching to s mode to manually shift up. Think I might upgrade to a 2019 off-road model if they can provide it with a leveling kit. I did have to install airbags on the rear suspension so the truck would carry my 2018 can-am XMR650 quad
I'm less impressed with my current trucks fuel economy than I was with the Tacoma's gutless 3.5L. I could live with it but it sure could be better. My wife's Kia with the 3.3L is much more lively and Honda Ridgeline is a beast in comparison. Tacoma has a decent recipe but some of the ingredients just don't add up. Needs more torque in the engine Needs more gears in the transmission Needs slightly higher payload Needs an inch or two more headroom Needs steering wheel mounted volume controls changed TRD Sport needs hood scoop delete option Needs better infotainment system and make premium sound available in lower trims Needs to lower the front nose area by the grill. The truck feels bigger than it is because of that big flat front.
I apologize, this was not a good video on my part. I had a lot of mixed feelings with the Tacoma and definitely showed it. I like what it stands for the the Tacoma’s heritage, but still felt like there was a lot to be desired
If you’re in even a slight hill it could do that. I didn’t notice that on flat surfaces though...it makes a noise but never really jolted the vehicle. If it’s a hill or incline try putting the parking brake in before shifting into park, then keep the parking brake on while shifting into drive
@@PrimeAutotainment Exactly also the T&T with the steering wheel was extremely limited. I was seriously considering buying one till I sat in it and immediately knew it wasn't going to happen.
@@PrimeAutotainment No my 04 Tacoma is still running fine with 170k miles on it it's just getting a little old and dated. Since then I've decided to just keep what I've got it's been a great truck and has treated me good.
That would have been nice. I like that engine, seems to put the torque down better in the 4Runner too. It’s not like Toyota’s 3.5 is bad but it doesn’t seem to be their best application in the Taco
@@PrimeAutotainment Toyota did it due to the emissions regulations coming in 2025. Its their attempt at reaching higher mpgs. History always repeats intself. Anyone here ever ride dirt bikes? 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. Emissions cracked dosn and the 2 stroke went away and companies basically slowly improved the 4 stroke to compete of not be as good as a 2 stroke. Same situation here. Smaller motor with the goal of high output and better mpgs.

I swear my Tacoma doesn’t have any shifting problems ever, it’s a 2018 trd or dcsb auto. Thing is great no matter what I’m doing
Bought a TRD OFF ROAD 2016, had it for 2 years and never disappoint, sold it for $28500 and now I have a house and a 2017 Corolla 👌🏽
That’s awesome haha...they truly hold their value!
Prime Autotainment yeah they do and now I'm currently shopping for another taco👍🏽
2011buddylee I have to say, I'm jealous
I just bought one today. Barcelona red, TRD offload 4X4 5' bed with the premium package. Love the leather seats, sunroof, and premium JBL stereo.
That’s awesome! You got a sweet ride! Glad to hear it and I hope you continue to enjoy it! 😁
Just got one ,cement color.
Everything in this review matches
My experience. I like this truck , it has its own personality .
I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these. Excellent review. Thanks so much.
John Smith thank you!
My 2003 Toyota Tacoma still running strong. 178,000 miles.
Take off the back head rests an visibility is amazing, unless you have passengers all the time 👌🏼
I did that with my 2008 tacoma. Took them off the 2nd week I bought it. It was makes driving so much easier. I just put them back on when I have passengers in the back
Appreciate the honesty and fairness of this review. Doesnt feel like your shilling for Toyota like some reviewers
I bought the 4runner TRD off road today! i got the red one!
Dream truck. Perfect color... perfect. I just want this exact TRD off road. Short box, double cab.
Good choice! It’s a solid truck!
If u work for it dog it’ll happen
I bought this Sunday- short bed, same color. I had not intended to buy a new one...but after driving it and then realizing a used one (2016 or newer with under 30k) was going to cost 30k...I offered 34400 on this truck (short bed), they took it. My I’m thrilled!
I appreciate the time you took to go through the interior.
Thank you, glad to hear it!
Just bought my 2019 trd off road today :) super happy with it.
Juanite J95 same here. In Cavalry Blue. Took delivery yesterday. Can’t wait to use the $12,000 I saved on doing the mods that are important to me.
Yea I just took mine out into the mountains camping off-road and it handles like a champ.
Juanite J95 great...I actually bought one of the bed tents for mine, couple that with an air mattress ...wonderful!
Are you still happy with your Tacoma? What are the cons of it?
Thanks for the review.. I just bought one last night at local dealership. I had a really good trade and bought the stripped down version of this, meaning no leather or heated seat, nor the tech package with the fancy GPS. Total sticker 37 and change, but with trade in I paid 22 and change. I also got this color. Not into the tactical colors. I was in the military and drove way to many tactical GOV's.
That’s awesome! I hope you enjoy your new ride, you can’t go wrong with it. I don’t blame you for the colors lol and thank you for your service!
What’s up Nolan!!
I like three things about the Taco:
1. Nolan AWESOME review!!
2. The smooth color blue
3. The amount of ground clearance
😊
Hey man! Thank you very much, appreciate the input! Forrest from Forrest’s Auto Reviews and I are teaming up to do a TRD Pro mashup with the Taco and 4Runner models in January so we will our that ground clearance to the test!
I just bought a 2019 Tacoma 4x4 off road manual transmission military color 🥰
That’s awesome, great choice!! 👍
I just got the more affordable 2019 Tacoma SR5 4X4.....and I love it....
Are there options for rear wheel drive / and or 4 wheel drive?
jonathan aldana Do you mean 2x4 or 4x4. If so then yes. I am pretty sure you can get either 4wd or 2wd in the SR, SR5 and Sport.
Me too , so happy with the SR5 4x4
I actually prefer to have drum rear brakes and I’m glad they stuck with them over the disc brakes. Drums do a great job and have better durability.
Yeah. That’s why the Tundra has rear drums as well. Durability...
Just got the SR5 double cab version with long bed yesterday. I’m very short (5’3”) and was pleasantly surprised that the seating position is just fine for me. No problems seeing over the hood, etc..
Glad to hear it! Enjoy your new ride! 😁👍
How much you get it for ?, and would you say it can be driven in snow and up mountains without the use of chains?
jonathan aldana , I only got the 4x2 so no going up hill in snow! I paid $30,335 in Dallas, TX.
one of the best reviews I have seen by far and I seen them all good job.
Joshe Bernadel thank you very much, I truly appreciate that!
There's nothing disappointing about not having LED headlights or rear
drum breaks, none of these reviews seem to talk about the quality and
how well built the Toyota's are, my new Ford was a rattle bucket the day
I brought it home and after driving a new Colorado I'm really glad I
now own a 3rd gen.
You know the Tacoma rated below average on consumer reports reliability Ford f150 and 250 was rated alot better
(BTW everyone...we are talking about the Canadian dollar here...which as of this writing, is worth about 75 cents US)
Move to BC my friend....I just bought this exact same truck without the leather seats upgrade for $40,500 C (that’s equivalent to 30,600 US) in Surrey.
Glad to hear it! You can’t go wrong with the Taco, that’s for sure and you’re right it’s so solid. Enjoy your Taco!
Can’t wait to get the 2020 Tacoma !
Then why do none of the competing off road trucks have drums?
I love the entune infotainment system. Its responsive and simple but offers a lot.
Thank you for this video, I was thinking about pulling the trigger and buying one, but Toyota definitely needs to step it up when it comes to driver features and assists, feels like a truck from 2010.
My first Modification would definitely be the headlights. 6000k - 8000k would look much better.
Me too!
I installed some l.e.d bulbs from ddm tuning for the headlights and fog lights and they are really bright 👍
What headlights are you considering?
I absolutely love this truck while I wish it had Apple CarPlay. I guess that did not come standard until 2020?
I think the burnt orange is discontinued
Cruz TheRipper Well darn it!
I like the longer bed but I wonder how the turning radius is?
This was actually a perfect review , the best one I seen , thank you
Thanks for the review.
Excellent review. Well done.
Thank you!!
I'm getting a 2020 trd off-road long bed when they hit dealers this fall. I'm holding out for the led headlights and power seat that were part of the refresh.
EDIT: I forgot the main feature I'm excited for... android auto is finally coming to the tacoma!
Good idea, I like the changes they made/added for the 2020!
I got quoted $35,600 for a TRD off road with the long box. Going to be picking it up as soon as I get my Christmas bonus!
That’s awesome! Have fun and enjoy it 👍
Just out of curiousity. How much does an average job earn you in the US? For graduates
SALOMO KONDJILA Last I checked, average earnings for a college grad in the U.S. are around $43k. Come to Texas though. Everything is bigger here!
is that price out of the door?
@@mchuynh916 no with taxes comes out to about $38k.
That Calvary blue is such a brilliant color
LOLOL Nolan :)). When you opened the center console and I seen the white tissues, for a split second I thought they were white socks. I said to myself, that’s a odd place to put his socks. Hahaha. Thanks for a Splendid Review Mr. Going quickly up tp 10K Subs. I never seen anyone climb so fast. ***WOW***
Haha I see what you mean, that’s a good idea though. Could stash all sorts of good stuff in there.
Thank you for the support, doing a giveaway soon!
Just got cement gray 2019 TRD Off-road. Got the manual transmission. Didn't think about it, but there's no crawl control or multi terrain select with manual. Totally makes sense, though. Manual is worth it, in my opinion!
Very nice, love that cement gray too! Yeah that’s something I forget about, but good choice on the manual. Glad to hear it and hope you enjoy it! 👍
You get the A-TRAC System in place of crawl control on the Manual so you are good to go.
@@Shakerhood69 not sure what that is but I'll look it up. Thanks!
Best way I can describe it is a Manual Version of Crawl Control, look for the A-TRAC button in your truck.
@@Shakerhood69 see it. Thought it turned traction control on and off. Thanks!
Love the Taco!!
Excited to see more videos on your Taco!
Think I'll wait for 2020 , power seat and apple car play a must in this day and age!
Power seats are nice. I don't even know what apple car play is, and don't care either😂
Really love the cadet blue color!
im 5'6" and this truck was made for me!! you should be fine but it doesnt seem like a practical truck for taller people.
I feel the same way , simple to me is much better
Great video. Unless you take the truck on a race track where you are constantly slowing down into corners from high speeds, you will not notice the difference with having drums in the rears. In fact, the drums shoes last longer.
Good to know!
so there’s no way to raise the seat in this truck?? im really short thinking of buying a 2019 tacoma
Really thorough review thanks
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
Always torn between my Colorado and Tacoma. Still own my 2015 Colorado though and have zero regrets based on this for my purposes.
It’s tough picking the right vehicle but happy to hear that! 👍
The 2019 Ranger and the upcoming mid sized Ram will make it even harder for me to decide. I can't just blindly get the Tacoma based on resale value and precieved quality, I would have to make several concessions that I'm not sure I could live with in the long term.
Haven't driven one yet, but I did just see one online that I like, so I may go test drive it soon. I'm 6'3", will I fit?? Also, how is it in the snow?
That’s tough to tell at 6’3”. I would imagine it would be tight for you but it would be best to try one out yourself. As for snow I haven’t driven it in snow lol. Too bad 😕
Try the Ranger traded my 2019 FX4 Lariat for a 2019 Off Road it handles way better then the Ranger
Nice review - I bought this last night (same color but without the tech pkg/leather)...The manuals are WAY to big - so watching videos...Thanks.
Hey thanks for stopping back, that’s awesome to hear 😁😁👍
@@PrimeAutotainment another update...114k miles on it now....lots in 4WD...still no issues and still loving it.
Getting mine new this weekend for 33k lol. Best dealer ever with add ons included
That’s awesome! Enjoy 👍
Nicely done. Great info.
Thank you!
Nice, Texas!
Exactly exactly exactly!!!
What other midsize truck would you suggest? Cheers!
I paid $31,500 for a brand new ‘19 TRD 4x4 OR, Give Me The VIN offered me $33,600 with 12,000 miles. I’m not looking to sell but was curious. Something to seriously consider; outside of it capability.
Calvary blue is my favorite color.
It’s pretty sweet!
Gay
Just bought mine ayi love it
That’s awesome, happy to hear it! 👍 I hope you continue to enjoy it!
Love the truck, Im 6'3 so I am afraid of how I might fit in it.. uhg, hate being tall :(
Sheesh"" im 6'2. and when I hopp in my buddys trd off road, its pretty tight. 😔
Where’s apple car play it’s time Toyota and definitely the trd pro
A refresh is being announced on Feburary 7th at the Detroit Auto show rumor is it will offer it
Nobody but you city girls need that shit. Go drive a Chrysler sebring if you need that. This is for men who want a truck
Larry Grohman the cement color is awesome. Talked my way into a Tacoma. Wife approval.lol. Going to wait til end of the year to get a 2019 TRD SPORT.
Great review...not sure how I feel about this truck.
Thanks Michael! I’ve always liked Tacoma’s..and still do but I wish they would have improved a few things. Everyone I know that has a newer or older one love them though
5'9 eh? Damn, im 6'2. Im thinking towards to buy this truck.. thats one thing that worries me
Yeah you would definitely want to try it out and see if your comfortable. I’m curious about that
Can you get the TRD off road with a crew cab and manual transmission?
Yes you can!
Yes just picked one up with tech and premium for 36. TRD.
You dont need disc brakes on the rear end....drums in back are better for off road anyway.
Steve o - drum brakes are never better. no rally car or trophy truck or landcruiser or raptor have drum brakes. drum brakes are a cost cutting move, nothing more
Excellent video thank you!
Thank you!
@@scottfurlong5475 I just picked it up but yeah i got the lux package and thats all covered. The guy kept begging me to get it.
These are awesome trucks, you will enjoy it for many years.
Any idea why Toyota got rid of the other little storage bin in the bed of the 2019s?
Dang no clue...forgot about that
Good review!! I see no difference between my 2017 and this 2019.
Thank you! You’re right, basically the same truck except for Toyota safety sense stuff like radar cruise etc I’m guessing
I have a 2016 in Inferno the truck hasn't changed that much except for Toyota Safety Sense rear window is electric now They discontinued the Inferno for 2019 I get more complements on the color than anything
DARRYL PHILLIPS love that inferno!
If I remember right...you own a Ridgeline right? If that’s correct, how are you liking it so far?
nice review , thanks
Thanks!
Ok I’ve heard there is a problem with the automatic transmission, late shifting or something along that line
Yeah I’ve heard those too. It wasn’t necessarily problematic for me, but it behaved strangely when I had it. Wasn’t my favorite transmission for sure
When will Tacoma ever equip with rear disc.
Good question...
It stops in a shorter distance than a Colorado with rear discs so they obviously work well, rear discs would look nicer though.
Wish it had disk brakes all around, I mean rear drum brakes is soooo 80’s! 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
It does have remote start!!! Click the lock button 3 times
I think I'm a slightly bigger fan of Voodoo Blue...cool video, thanks!
The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney thanks for watching! I’m a fan of your channel 👍
Thank you so much and best wishes for your continued success in 2019!
Thank you, Joe! Same to you!
I got my license today I’m looking for a nice truck
Awesome
Damn I bought one !!!
you fucked up . thetauto trans are NO GOOD.
Blue color looks like my 65 Ford
what's the difference of this model and the tss offroad
I have a 2017 Tacoma limited with a 3" leveling kit which the dealer installed during break in I did have issues with the transmission I ended up switching to s mode to manually shift up. Think I might upgrade to a 2019 off-road model if they can provide it with a leveling kit. I did have to install airbags on the rear suspension so the truck would carry my 2018 can-am XMR650 quad
I tried, but that stupid minivan motor told me how I really feel.
Needs more torque in the engine
Needs more gears in the transmission
Needs slightly higher payload
Needs an inch or two more headroom
Needs steering wheel mounted volume controls changed
TRD Sport needs hood scoop delete option
Needs better infotainment system and make premium sound available in lower trims
Needs to lower the front nose area by the grill. The truck feels bigger than it is because of that big flat front.
Not a fan of the review style - too many "it's not great" followed by "it's not bad." So what is it?
I apologize, this was not a good video on my part. I had a lot of mixed feelings with the Tacoma and definitely showed it. I like what it stands for the the Tacoma’s heritage, but still felt like there was a lot to be desired
Is it normal when you have it in parking and then put it in drive it like shifts hard ?
If you’re in even a slight hill it could do that. I didn’t notice that on flat surfaces though...it makes a noise but never really jolted the vehicle.
If it’s a hill or incline try putting the parking brake in before shifting into park, then keep the parking brake on while shifting into drive
I'm just under 6'2" and if your as tall as me forget about it you ain't fitting. I have more room in my 2004 taco than when I was in this.
I was wondering how people tour height would fit. Wish they’d make the cab taller and give us more seat adjustments. Thanks for sharing
@@PrimeAutotainment Exactly also the T&T with the steering wheel was extremely limited. I was seriously considering buying one till I sat in it and immediately knew it wasn't going to happen.
KParks dang! I can’t believe it’s like that. Did you buy something else or are you considering something else?
@@PrimeAutotainment No my 04 Tacoma is still running fine with 170k miles on it it's just getting a little old and dated. Since then I've decided to just keep what I've got it's been a great truck and has treated me good.
That’s good to hear and no surprise. You could probably still sell it for quite a bit too when you decide. Hopefully it keeps on ticking well for you
Need to add 6 inch to the back seat room.
No kidding! It’s cramped
What Camera are you using
For this video it was a Canon SL2. Currently using a Panasonic LUMIX G9
Should I trade in my 01 trd 5 spd for a new one?
Haha totally up to you!!
@@PrimeAutotainment dude, your supposed to to me hell no and keep the one I got.
It has drum brakes in the rear for offroading.
They need to update that less than exciting 3.5L.
I agree!
I sometimes wonder if Toyota should have kept the 4.0 V6 and update it with better fuel efficiency and power.
This is a man truck love it
The cab needs to be an inch or two taller
That would be great!
With that package can you slep 33s in there
Too freaking expensive
Broke ass
@@badboybootz8 Ahahaha. Its overpriced. Thats for sure. Regarding value, Tacomas hold their value very well.
@@chrisginoc I know , i have one
@@badboybootz8 Which model and how much you get it for out the door?
