- At 42 Gear Street Four I was joined by my good friend Leigh Fuge to take a look at the entire 2022 Yamaha Revstar guitar lineup!
As you know if you watch my channel, I’ve already done videos on the Element and Standard (with humbuckers) models, and because Yamaha had also brought the Standard P90 guitar and both Professional models to the show, I couldn’t resist having a look at them all together!
And Leigh was the perfect partner to do this with, as (a) he’s a great guitar player, and (b) he’d not tried any of the new Revstars until we shot this video! So what you’re seeing here is Leigh also reacting to playing each of these guitars for the very first time.

We talk about the features and specs of each model, and run through as many tones as we can until we get kicked out of the room! And at the end, Leigh tells us which of the guitars he’d choose if he was taking one out to gig with. We also got to use the brand new Friedman SS100-v2 Steve Stevens Signature 100-Watt hand-wired head as well, which was a bit of a bonus!

Hey Markus! The Green one is lovely - there was one at this event too. That and the Swift Blue are my two favorites :) I bet it is a perfect foil to the J Mascis, yes. You have developed a great taste in guitars, it seems!

I have an RSS20L in Swift Blue (left-handed Standard with Humbuckers). Very good guitar for the money. The gig bag is quality and even the stock strings are Elixir. I have swapped out the tuners for Gotoh locking machine heads but unusually for a sub £1,000 guitar there is not a lot else I would want to upgrade ( maybe a bone nut).
Great to hear yours is a good one too. I really think the gig bags are decent on the Standard models (and I wouldn't need/want the Professional's hard case). Like you, though, I might consider locking tuners for a Standard model, but that's about it! These are excellent guitars, indeed. Enjoy yours!
The sunset burst with P90s is the one for me :) That Pro model is beautiful but it’s over 3k here in Australia 😮
Just bought Revstar 02T Sunburst, lemme tell you, for guitar at this price range = AMAZING Build Quality and Looks + it sound and feels BEAUTIFUL.

I think this is really well done. Not too much 'standup', which can be a tad annoying when what one really needs is solid analysis and proper sounds from the guitar! I'm getting one of these, when they're in stock! I just don't know which one yet, sigh.

And yes, plenty of great choices in the Revstar range… the next one for me to try in detail is the Standard with P90s, and I’m thinking that could be the one that suits me best! I love the Element too, though. Let me know which one you end up going for!
@@RichWordsMusic I'm gravitating toward that same model too! But they aren't in stock at Thomann. My only real criticism, in one can call it that, is that they don't have much... 'charisma' compared to the classic shapes of Fender and Gibson. It's an aesthetic thing, a design problem. Objectively they are excllnt guitars, only people don't buy guitars based on logic.
@@michaelk5507 it’s well worth the wait. I put my name down for a P90 Standard fairly early and I’ve had it for just over a month now. An absolute beauty to play, and incredibly versatile live. I don’t bother switching between Les Paul and strat at gigs now, the Revstar covers it all. Enjoy
@@michaelk5507 I know what you mean! But I think the Revstars will develop that charisma over the years, as the other models have through being played by the rockstars we all look up to. But you're totally right about the decision-making process of the guitar player ;) I know it all too well!
@@GazP23 Sounds great! I'll be getting a P90 Standard to try next and I can't wait... like you say, I believe that guitar has the chops to cover all the standard 'classic' humbuxcker/single coil tones. We'll see!

I totally agree - I think everyone should give these Revstars a try. All of the guitars I’ve tried in the range have been excellent. Now more people simply need to discover them too! Glad you enjoyed this collab with me and Leigh - more of those to come in future 👍
Awesome dive into a solid range of guitars, think an alternative to a Gibson for most people.
Glad you enjoyed it, and I have to agree! They are a superb and vastly underrated alternative to something like Gibson.
My Yamaha Revstar RSS02T Swift Blue arrived today after a 5 month wait. What a great, beautiful guitar. The feel and the sound is like a guitar well over 1000€uros. If anyone is looking for one Thomann is a very good store with excellent customer service. GET ONE, it will totally cure your GAS.

@@RichWordsMusic Thank you very much for your kind words. The colour is beautiful, initially I ordered the sunburst but I didn't want to wait until 2023 for it. So I called Thomann and I asked for the Swift Blue which is gorgeous. I even checked the serial number and mine is August 2022 and think that may be the reason why they are so hard to come by. When you receive yours you won't regret it and those P90's, I just love them. I had a Gretsch with P90's way back in January but for me I think they sounded a bit sterile so I traded it along with a couple of other guitars and got myself a fender strat American professionnel one sunburst, another great guitar and a definate keeper.
@@marksystemed4678 That's great to hear, and that was some great service indeed. I'm really excited to get stuck into the P90s as well... I'm a huge fan of them! Couple your Revstar with the American Strat and you basically have two guitars there that can play literally anything! Enjoy your Revstar :)

I still think that the Element pickup´s sound better than de Standard and Professional. The sound is more "aggressive", and the Dry Switch is fenomenal how it sounds.
Totally agree about the Dry Switch! The aggressive nature of the pickups is also lovely too, and depending on what sounds you're after, it can be more suitable than the ones in the Standard/Pro guitars too. Goes to show what excellent value the Element really is!

Unless I missed it, you didn’t mention one of the most important features of these guitars. The stainless steel frets! If you haven’t ever played a guitar with SS frets, you are in for a treat!

Okay, it's not on the element version. The base one has just the nickel ones. The SS frets start from standard.
What was the one at the back ,? The gold looking one with p 90 s I can never find one

We do actually play it at 21:47, have a watch... it was Leigh's favorite Revstar.
I just bought a new gold top straight from Ishibashi Music in Japan. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow n 4 days DHL shipping. My wife actually just found this on a Google search. They were selling it new for $1600 plus shipping, but the shipping was $350. So it came in under what I was going to pay Sweetwater and now I don’t have to wait for summer.

Why Yamaha didn't create their own noiseless P90's like Seymour-Duncan and DiMarzio have is beyond me. If I bought one I would replace with S-D.
I do wonder about that, but I guess it's because they want to keep the P90s as classic/vintage sounding as possible. Or perhaps they don't want to spend more R&D cash ;) Either way, though, I love these P90s and the noise is never really a problem for me personally because I'm not a super high gain player. You'd need a noise gate if you were.

Sorry Mark, sometimes on these events where time is of the essence we forget the odd thing... and I guess it was a case of being close enough that in the room we didn't notice that one or other guitar may have slipped out of tuning. I have actually already made a checklist for next time I'm on something like this - and TUNE THE GUITAR is on it in big letters ;) Cheers!

Your site advertises a million guitars - and surprise - they are all fantastic. This does nothing for the appearance of a conflict of interest.
In the sense that I only make videos about guitars and gear that I personally own and/or like and borrow, you're right! I'm not a paid reviewer, so I pick and choose what I feature on my channel.
Why would you compare guitars to Leigh Fuge? "One is a stringed instrument the other isn't"
Ha ha, sometimes when Leigh plays he is so at one with the instrument that I felt it needed to be stated ;) They are separate entities! In other news, I love the vagaries of the English language sometimes :) Cheers!
