    The standard and professional series both have identical electronics, hardware, and frets. I went with the RSS20 (black)and RSS02 (sunset burst) which seem to me the biggest bang for the buck as they say. Both guitars are rock solid and stable. I love the way they feel and sound. They have become my clear favourites in a very short time.

      So you're paying more than double the price for the japanese treatment?
      -I'm looking to buy one as gift for a friend, haven't decided which yet... is the pro that much more of an instrument than the standard?
      I feel so conflicted... money is not really an issue, but the price difference is huge.

      @@coconutfleetsleeper5717price difference is not justified at all, standard is the best bang for buck! but no one would complain about a pro one... imo you'd be better off buying two standards 😂

      You are so right! I ordered mine on the day they were announced (March), because they had their reps out everywhere hyping them! Now, we may be lucky to see them in July! Europe seems to be getting them now!

      @@spmartin I tried to order one from Thomann . They won’t ship this model to the USA. I think Yamaha is doing the right thing by servicing The European market first. Yamaha guitars have been very popular in Europe for years. The US

    I've demo 'ed both and ended up buying the Element. It had a more raw rocky sound that I loved. As far as playing them I couldn't tell much difference. The Standard may be a touch more "refined" but not much IMO. I'm not really into refined playing anyways. Build quality of both was outstanding. For $500 bucks I'll take the Element and make no apologies.

    Lefties have a choice of either RSE20L Element or RSS20L Standard in Swift Blue or Black - both with humbuckers. I have a lefty RSS20L (Standard with humbuckers) in Swift Blue. The gig bag that comes with the Standard is of a high quality, and the factory fitted Elixir strings are also premium. Only upgrade I am planning is fitting a set of Gotoh locking tuners. For info, the new Revstars have 10mm post holes so a set of Gotoh SG301 Magnum Locking Tuners MGT4 in Chrome should fit nicely. Surprised that locking tuners were not factory fitted on the Japanese made Professional range.

    Yamaha are FINALLY realising:
    1. They don’t have to copy American guitars.
    2. They need to stop using the hideous headstock design and YAMAHA logo.
    Hopefully they’ll also realise that their own traditional Japanese art and design is the coolest on the planet and they should incorporate that into their future guitars.
    From their historical samurai culture to their modern Manga design they could revolutionise guitar desirability for a younger market.
    Imagine how many young female guitarists would be saving up to buy a re-worked Fender ‘paisley’ style, but using their pattern silks or jet black lacquered inlay?
    Really hoping this new direction from Yamaha continues.

I'm only buying a new 3 way switch,output jack,tone cap and treble bleed curcuit for it. SD Distortion going in the neck and Probucker Custom in the bridge out of my Epiphone AJ sig. I wanna be able to coilsplit the neck and so the 2 wire Epiphone pickup will go in the bridge instead. I'm calling it the DEATHSTAR. Gotoh magnum keystone locking tuners, black speed knobs, and Schaller straplocks round out the upgrades. Should be a very unique guitar when it's finished. Merry Christmas to ME!

    Hi Jay, thanks a lot for this nice review of the Revstars! At the moment I only play a Strat and think about buying a second type of guitar, probably a Humbucker one as it differs more from normal single coils.
    My question: did you make (or think about to make 😉) a comparison between a Humbucker Revstar with a Gibson LP standard- in terms of characteristics, playability etc.
    Should one first purchase a classical (Gibson) LP to have that typical LP sound in his/her line up before complementing the selection of guitars?
    Cheers
    Jürgen

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I find the older Revstar to be a bit closer to the Gibson LP than the newer style. The newer Revstars trade in some of the bark of the LP for more clarity and tightness. That being said, your personal selection of guitars should be based on the gear that works with you and speaks to you: I have a wonderful collection but mine is also missing a Les Paul.

    Ordered mine 8 months ago. Got it last week. Yamaha needs to figure all that out. Mine was a mistake because I had moved on and didn’t realize I had preordered it and then they just sent it to me when it came in. It is killer don’t get me wrong, but I would not have ordered it and waited. So much so I had moved on and bought a Reverend. So now I have both

    wallet wise I'll take the Standard series. I don't know if I would get the Humbucker or the P-90. If I had the money to the Professional series. I definitely would! again it's a toss up between the Humbucker or P-90.But again I do like that the old series had that Bigsby option and I do like the wider neck width.

    Are the RSPRo & RSStnd the same as to electronics, hardware & frets? Do they differ only in which country they are made? And what's the difference between Humbuckers & P90s. Planning to buy one next month. Thanks for any info.

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  ปีที่แล้ว

      The differences are very subtle and really comes down to the Japanese smaller workshop build or the Indonesian larger factory build.
      In my experience, I would be confident playing with either choice. Personally, I have a Pro and the weight is wonderful and it really sings.

    Yamaha has decided that Music stores need to purchase the whole lineup of RevStars to stock them, and that’s a lot of money for a lot of small music stores. Even the guitar centers that I’ve been to rarely have one, and I’d like to buy one, if only I could get my hands on one to try it out.. I’m sure millions of people feel the other way but we can’t get our hands on one. evidently the Japanese are unaware of our situation over here..

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i thought it was more a matter of them just not making enough Revstars in the first place: I don't think they were expecting them to be as popular as they were. Even I had to wait a year to get mine and I got it directly from them.

I have the p90 sunset burst standard…they are getting harder and harder to get ahold of, I’d pull the trigger man….I ended up getting mine off eBay…paid $950 which is $150 more than the msrp, but the guitar reeks and plays like a $5k guitar
