That yellow one sounds terrific in clean mode. Once you step on the pedal, they sound VERY similar. And just so you can remember, a “High Pass” filter allows it to pass the high frequencies. A “Low Pass” filter lets it pass low frequencies. Unless I’ve got that reversed…

@@TheDrunkenScoundrel They won't because Yamaha can sell every Standard they produce with a long waiting list. Yamaha have hit their price stride with the release of the Revstar G2 range. Significant price increases and increased margins dealers will love, consumers not so much. In truth compared with everyone else I have to admit Yamaha have been underpricing their instruments for us to enjoy for an aeon. The previous model RS502T was half the price of the current RSS02T 5 or 6 years ago. Luckily I bought my three RS Revstars over the past 5 years and won't be trading down to any G2 any time soon. Only thing I see as an improvement is the stainless steel frets on the Standards. That does get a tick from me.

The other thing was the atrocious colors. I have the Element in the swift blue, which is so abysmal that no matter how good the guitar is, I don't even want to open the case anymore. The best color is the Red Copper, which they don't offer in the US. They have it in the Element in the UK and EU, and the US gets the Swift Blue (dear god, I hate that color). Japan has all five colors in the Element range.

Very happy to see you checking out these guitars Andy! The full fat Japanese model looked gorgeous and I'm sure it's craftsmanship is phenomenal. But the elements model has to be the one to get for someone looking for a bargain. The element model stacks up very well against something like say an Epiphone LP, with the standard actually being around the same price range as the higher end Epis. I have to say I'd take the Revstars over them and I'm a big LP style guitar fan.

Thanks for the review. It was interesting to note that another reviewer mentioned that the out of phase positions on the new Yamaha models are muddy and a little bit odd sounding ( which was audibly noticeable through TH-cam ) when using a Helix digital modelling unit. Something to note if your not using analogue pedals on your pedalboard. It was a bit disappointing to hear this as it effectively reduces your switching tones on the guitar.
I would liked to have had locking tuners on the guitar too. Cheers

I'm reminded of watching a certain channel with a certain guitar youtuber claiming to be able to do this with american strats and squiers, got it the wrong way round then started feeling the knobs and switches and changed his mind. Then spent the rest of the video slagging off cheap guitars.
Revstars look and sound great. I feel they do sounds different but not really one better over the other. The yellow one has a more raw feel and the expensive one a bit more smooth.

Great video, really like seeing a spotlight on the cheaper guitar in the range rather than the middle one which seems to be the trend with most ranges. Folks often fall into the habit of writing off the lowest end model even when it really does have something special to offer for the price.
I don't think I've ever played a guitar in the Element's price range that felt or sounded as good as it does, it really does offer 95% of the Standard for a little over half the price.
That said I love the Standard for the unique 2 and 4 settings on the pickups.

Personally, I think the Standard is the level to get. It is basically an Indonesian built version of the Pro, even using the same pickups and hardware, and just doesn't have the carbon in the body, and the vibration treatment to break-in the guitar. Which is why I have a Standard, and it is my daily player now. In the states, it's $300 more than the Element, but to get rolled SS frets and the Pro level pickups is, imho worth it.

Obviously, if your buying Japanese built guitars, you know what quality is. But as far as there being a huge difference between the ones made in Indonesia? There isn't enough to make me pay $350 more for stainless frets, carbon fiber rods, and maple caps with binding. All those things are great and dandy. But I don't NEED them. I used some spare parts I've accumulated to hop up an Element model in black. Its become the Deathstar! Can't get that thing anywhere near my HB G212plus Creamback cab when I'm running it through the MT15. Gonna have to patch in the noise gate its soo wicked. Its by far the loudest acousticly of all my guitars. Really wants to feedback no matter what you do. Gonna be interesting to see how the coilsplit tones sound once I can control the damn thing.

  • @abuzafeera

Actually, there's no different sound between the pro and the standard, they use the same wood, carbon, pots, caps, bridge, tuning machine, hardware, pickup, quadrant techtron HPV nut, and stainless steel fret. If there's the USA build, the majority of people would say "wow this USA build sounds better than the other's" and think the US build is better, japan in second, Indonesia in third even though they have the same wood, same pickup, same hardware, electronics, and the finishing quality. It is crazy how big named brand set your mindset.

This just proves that you should not listen with your eyes. I like beautiful guitars like anyone else, but my best guitar is by VERY far an Epiphone SG Pro, I did end up changing the pickups and add locking tuners but even with those expenses I am stil waaaayyy bellow the price of a Gibson and it sounds and plays just as or better than the Gibson equivalent. And please don't pull the resale value card ... I buy a guitar to play it not to resell it.

Don'y EVER ask where the mysteriously convenient mask came from.
You probably don't want to know.
Don't ask me how I know this.....

I really don't like weight relief guitars and esp. not those, which are holllow without any notice by the manufacturer.

1900€ and no locking tuners? Thats a joke….

I honestly don't understand the locking tuners argument. I have never owned them, and for me there's something enjoyable about stringing standard tuners. If anything, I would probably feel a little cheated by locking tuners. Seriously.

Doesn't need them, but I concur. Even if just for the ease of quick string changes per the in line Grovers as Yamaha fit default on their Pacifica 311H and 600 Series.

@@keithferris9574 you would change your mind if you had just one chance to try out some locking schallers or gotohs. Ever since i bought my first guitar with locking tuners, i would never look back.

I have a very cheap strat copy, but I am a precision engineer. I made that guitar the best guitar at our sessions it never goes out of tune and sounds great with 11to 54s

How can we listen for clarity with that gallon of reverb and that poor playing? Ugh. Cant even tell what this actually sounds like.

I did my own Revstar Standard blind test when I bought one: First I played my brilliant Fender Player Plus Telecaster which, as usual, sounded like aural nectar. Then I played the Revstar, which sounded like a busted banjo thanks to rattling G and top E strings caused, most likely, by a sloppily cut nut. In other words, TERRIBLE QUALITY CONTROL by Yamaha. Guess this is the difference between Mexico and Indonesia. Needless to say, the dud Revstar went back. I won't bother buying another one. btw, it didn't even feel good - compared to the super-smooth Telecaster it was stiff and cheap feeling, yet the difference in price between these guitars (in England) is little more than £200.

That hasn't been my experience. In fact I was suprised to find the mex fenders having such sharp frets..
