  • Season 3 Episode 3. In this episode as we continue to explore the creeks, beaches and reefs that the area around Great Harbour Cay has to offer, Shel starts to get hands on to deal with our port engine knocking issue! He takes some heat readings at the values, he does a valve lash adjustment, and gets his hands on some new fuel injectors. We see more turtles in one place than we could of dreamed possible. We dive a small reef on the east side of Great Harbour Cay, we go shelling on a remote sandbar at low tide finding treasure, and the stray cats get into an epic battle!
Events in this video took place Winter 2017/18.

We are a cruising couple, looking for a non mainstream life of living aboard and cruising in the Caribbean/Bahamas in Winter, and the Great Lakes in Summer. Working when we can to fill the cruising kitty. We have sold everything we own, and we now own a cruising boat. We have chosen to do this voyaging under power, instead of the popular sailing route.
Our mission is to help inspire people to live their dreams earlier in life, instead of waiting until retirement. So often retirement dreams are dashed by health issues, or other unforeseen later life circumstances. If you have a dream, then dream, plan, and do it now. We hope to make you smile, and spark the urning in your heart for fulfilling your dreams.

Hi, haven´t heard back from You and I thought the baby is fixed by now and adrenaline levels are back to excited. Yeah, I agree with You, things like the valves lash happen gradually and not from one day to the next. Well, at least You have the nozzles and the good thing is You have 2 engines. My best wishes in Freeport and good luck))) Cheers

I wish you the very best of luck in your crossing and getting your engine fixed, I’m sorry to see the troubles you are having, but as a boat owner myself, these things happen and we just have to deal with them. Looking forward to your next video and good news on the engine problem. Keep positive 😀

And also it is not a "pissing injector" but the problem is top end don't think dropped valve either no cracked piston. If you have to run to states I would go ahead and run engine across. I do not think miss will get any worse. Tom T

Injectors should have a nice spray, not a squirt, what does that mean? a dirty injector that is squirting fuel will cause white smoke and the knocking sound because all the fuel is not burning... efficiently... think about a squirt gun shooting fuel with no air mixed in, it is pretty hard to ignite, atomize that fuel with air, burns ignites a lot easier...

After a particularly rough week business-wise I was so super happy to get my youtube notification that you guys published a new episode. Seems like such a great place to hang out, how does it rate with other Bahamian destinations that you have visited? Very sorry about your engine woes, hopefully it is something crazy simple that everyone has overlooked.
You have inspired us and our plan is to head out of NYC in a few weeks for our first long cruise - a couple of short hops heading to the Chesapeake to get some qualified folks to give the whole boat a once over. After that, hopefully further south and at least make it to Florida. Thank you so much and can't wait to find out what is up with that uncooperative diesel.
BTW you might want to change the written summary from "Winter 2018" to "Winter 2017/18" for the benefit of future generations watching your adventures.

Thanks Bob! You are very kind. We really like Great Harbour Cay. We don't really like comparing to other areas, each place has something special to offer. Great Harbour Cay is a little sleepy at times, but there is lots to do if you go out and look. We are going to go back, with the time we spent there, it has a special place in our hearts.
Maybe see you on the water? Isn't it really cold up there now?
      Cheers!

Hello, people, good to see a video from you, you made my morning. I have not heard from you so I assume you have the engine problem in hand. I asked to see smoke from engine ... from the whisps visible in this vid the smoke is 100% certainly fuel smoke. Good luck with Nolan place. If I can be any help please call, you have my number, Tom T. I admire your ability to remain even keeled. I have found myself that intensely blue streaks of cursing help more than charmed stones when it comes to caterpillars.

cat made three engines with similar crank shafts, rod and main journal are same size, the difference was the stroke.
orderd a new crank it came in installed it the engen would not run the pisten was not coming to top of cylinder.
the crank was STAMPED with the right numbers but it was the rong crank from CAT.
REMOVED INJECTOR from it and another junk engen used a welding rod down hole to mesure stroke, thats how i figured it out.

I feel your pain, I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my port engine. Had to call for a mechanic, he never showed up for 3 weeks, I kept racking my brain and everyone else's. The day he was supposed to allegedly show up I solved the new distributor/timing problem myself.

I always enjoy your videos, the scenery and photography are amazing. Who plays the guitar? I’ve seen it in several of your vids. My two hobbies that I’m passionate about are playing guitar (classical and fingerstyle mostly) and boating. How about playing it in a future video ? Keep up the great work and wishing you safe travel wherever you go.

As a marine mechanic in bristle bay for the price of ticket and a place to stay I would have been on the next plane and had you running in a day or two . We have hundreds of boats with 3208"s .. not my favorite but a solid motor 90% time its a fuel system issue and by the end of this you will know all there is to know about that.. good luck guys never give up
