  • This dagger is made with Elmax steel I didn't mention that in the review... and if you're going to tell me how to buy knives don't waste your time I buy what I want to buy and I keep what I want to keep and I'll say what I want to say, if you don't like it make your own reviews. And yes there are daggers that stab, and there are daggers that slice, some do both. I know how to sharpen a knife and I know about knives I probably forgot more about knives than some people will ever know. so if you're going to tell me how daggers are not supposed to slice save it I don't care. if you get butthurt because I don't like this, then go buy your own shank and I'll buy what I want to buy. Otherwise thanks for watching!

    It's butter knife sharp by design because it's a thrusting/stabbing weapon. To make it razor sharp, the design would have to change in one of the following directions: hollow grind, a much wider blade, or thinner blade. A better cutting/thrusting alternative would be Tai Pan by Cold Steel.

    • @jerrydonquixote5927
      @jerrydonquixote5927  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a lot of daggers that thrust there's the Boker applegate-fairbairn there's many, I don't want one that only stabs I have knobs instruments that stabbed only if I buy dagger I want it to slice hands-down especially if I paid almost $400 for it!

    • @jerrydonquixote5927
      @jerrydonquixote5927  ปีที่แล้ว

      And I don't believe it's better dog by Design because they wouldn't have even put a grind on the side at all that would be ridiculous so why did they ground the edges if it wasn't meant to cut lol

    For what its worth here is a quote from a knife maker on the blade forum: I need to do a better job educating you. A fighting dagger is supposed to cut going in and coming out - just like a saw blade. On a bigger scale look at a cabinet maker's saw. It will cut wood for years going back and forth. Now, grind the teeth off it, polish the edge up so that it will cut hair/paper then try and cut wood with it.....the saw blade, sharpened the way you want it, will slide over the wood and not cut. To sharpen it the way you want it would do you a disservice - this dagger is battle ready and will give you a wicked cut going in and out MANY times. In addition, the built up tip prevents tip breakage - this is a killer dagger.
    If you've tried to sharpen this dagger to shave hair, you've changed it from a fighting dagger to a show piece. If this is the case, send it back to me, and I will put the edge back on it the way I sent it to you - a true fighting dagger. Trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong.

      Now that's what I like you just taught me something and that's what I love about the knife world is I'm still learning and I always will be! I like push daggers stabbing weapons Shanks whatever you want to call them and also like knives but this wasn't meant to be both and I should have acknowledged that before I purchased it! Man that was very well put what you posted and I appreciate that! And that's better than people telling me you don't know how to sharpen a knife of course I can sharpen a knife but this one wasn't meant to have all that steel removed to be sharp so it is a thrusting weapon in your correct. It would be a disservice to take all that metal off of it and try to make it shave. Thanks for educating me on that...

    It is not a collector piece only at all. It is a excellent weapon, the geometry is excellent, elmax is great steel and it has been heat treated well since it is anv and dlc is the hardest coating available. It is a dagger, you dont want a super sharp edge , you want to stab and that is it. It is not made for cutting. Its like buying a chopping knife and complaining that it doesn't stab well.
    Running you hand at the edge doesnt prove much. Put just a little bit of speed and it will cut. Speed cuts.
    Thanks for the video either way.

      Yes I think Elnax is pretty hard to Sharpen and I've only sharpened one knife with Elmax that was a Microtech. And these are going to require some serious time and I think the only way you could really get it sharp is to lay the edges back and that's going to make the take away from the beauty of the dagger they're really not angled at all I would say maybe 40° angles on there maybe I don't I'm not looking at it so it's hard to remember but it was not very good. Yeah but there are daggers that do both and I prefer one that does both, but it is a good-looking dagger. It would be nice in a collection, but I like one that works and looks nice. People say sharpen it, well if you try to sharpen it, you have to take so much steel off to make the geometry right for being sharp, it wouldn't look so beautiful anymore. So it just really wasn't meant to be that sharp. I don't think it's really meant to use, I don't think anybody would take it overseas in a theater of war or something like that. Sorry I just seen your message, but I understand, it's really bad geometry, and if you made it slice, you'd have to take so much steel off, it would kind of defeat the purpose. But I just really don't care for a knife that doesn't slice you know. People leave messages and say sharpen it, you just can't sharpen it, it's not going to sharpen, you would have to remove so much Steel, you would turn a good-looking knife into an ugly knife. If somebody just wanted it to collect fine, but if you want it to slice, then it's probably not a good knife.

      It didn't have the blade geometry do it if you would have done that it would have made the blade look pretty bad I think, so it wasn't worth it to me. It had like a 50° angle on it I mean you would have hit the ground so deep into the blade that they just wouldn't look right I didn't buy to use I bought it for a collector's item but I want them to be able to be used to so it just wasn't for me. I know how to sharpen enough but to take that much still off I'll probably burn through two sharpeners. I didn't spend 350 on a knife to want to do all that. But it's a good looking. Yeah, op, the edge bevels were probably 60 degrees inclusive. Did you see how narrow the edge bevels went up into that thick blade? It could be sharp, but the edge bevels would need extensive regrind to 40 degrees or less, not a simple sharpening operation, and you would also have to expertly leave the last few mms at the original angle so the tip would not be too thin and fragile.

    Daggers are meant for stabbing. That would go right through Kevlar. Given a choice. I’d rather be slashed then stabbed any day.

      People can live after being stabbed dozens of times but one slice across the vein that's it so good luck with that ideology. And not all daggers are made just for stabbing some slice and stab genius.

      @gordonj.wallis2826 nobody teaches that you stab instead of Fleet of Michael Janich and Jim Wagner. If you believe that a stab is worse than a slice then you don't know anything about knives or self-defense. There's people that have been stabbed dozens of times with long kitchen knives and survived it a couple of big slashes you're going to be hospitalized for a very long time if you even live so that's a silly thing to say that you'd rather be sliced than stabbed.

      @gordonj.wallis2826 well that's fine but you're the only one that thinks that so I'm glad you're not teaching people about self-defense because you don't know anything about it.
