    Zoe, your Lebanese accent, even the staccato style as you spoke about food in general (be-jannen!) or your use of “Habibiti” is adorable. And blending in a couple of French words truly captures the essence of the Lebanese style.

    I really admire you Zoe for choosing less popular tourist destinations, such as Lebanon or Iran. These countries are so underrated and have so much to offer for visitors, plus their languages are very beautiful. I have recently fallen in love with Lebanon as a country and I watch all the films and videos I can find about it, I listen to Lebanese music and read about this country's history. What a shame we in Europe know almost nothing about it. Thank you for introducing us your wonderful friends from all over the world and inspiring us to learn more. Take care 💜

    Your Lebanese dialect is a real surprise! Mastering any dialect after learning MSA is not easy, though the dialect is fundamentally related to Arabic, it’s much as Latin is related to the Romance languages. The way you said ‘Lebanese food is amazing’ is spot on! I like that you speak at a relaxed pace, I normally have difficulty understanding Levantine (Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian) and Egyptian because of the consonant shifts from my own native dialect of Iraqi. 😂

    • @youssefhamdy6008
      @youssefhamdy6008 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your comment can be confusing to people interested in learning Arabic. MSA Arabic is understood by people in all Arabic countries, the problem is that the speaker won’t understand dialects very well if the other person chooses not to or can’t speak in MSA for any reason. The analogy you made with Latin and Romance languages is very inaccurate since in the analogy the only commonality is the alphabet. With Arabic, It’s just not the same and I’m surprised you made that comparison since you’re Iraqi.

    • @MustafaAlmosawi
      @MustafaAlmosawi ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@youssefhamdy6008 I’m going from the case of the learner transitioning from foreign language, to MSA then to a dialect. Learning the dialect after learning MSA isn’t a matter of a few small changes. Linguistically the relationship of Latin to the Romance languages is still apt. There are grammatical, phonetic, structural and use of cognates across Romance languages all traceable back to Latin. Medieval Europe and until the later part of the so-called Enlightenment Latin was the common language of discourse internationally and Ecclesiastically. The other comparison point is MSA is a language that must be taught, Egyptians grow up speaking Egyptian Arabic, Lebanese, Levantine Arabic, Iraqis, Iraqi Arabic and so on. MSA is usually acquired through formal education.
      So your point is well made, a literate native Arabic speaker will be able to code switch from their dialect into MSA, and a well travelled person will be able two also be ‘dual-dialect’ as the language drift between Arabic dialects is not as big as that say between Italian and French. Two Arab speakers, speaking 'ammiyya might switch into fusha, but say two less educated speakers who didn’t know MSA tried to speak only in their dialect, would not have 100% bidirectional comprehension.
      Since Arabic is a heritage language for me (I.e. I speak it at home and with friends and community) before learning MSA I had a lot of trouble speaking with Egyptians or Lebanese. There would be a lot of occasions of comedic mutual unintelligibility. Now I use MSA, precisely because the dialects aren’t mutually intelligible, and I can’t understand those dialects at full speed. So I was surprised when I heard her speaking and it was easily intelligible.

    • @youssefhamdy6008
      @youssefhamdy6008 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MustafaAlmosawi You make good points, although I disagree with how MSA is acquired, I acquired it through Spacetoon haha. Education does play a role of course but media consumption I feel plays a bigger role. I also have Moroccan and Tunisian friends and it took a few weeks until I got used to how they speak, specially Moroccan which is still a bit hard but as a language with Arabic as a base it's not as hard to learn as learning a new language is. It just takes a while, for me at least. For a foreigner I don't think it would be quite as easy though.
