I'm smiling so hard my face hurts! It's an otherworldly experience hearing this 1966 garage nugget sounding far better than it ever did on radio or on my turntable when I was 16, and better, more robust, than the ABKCO reissue. You are doing an incredible job and I am grateful for your efforts.
Great song,I came across it quite by accident as it is a bit before my time and us British do everything we can to make music as boring and dull as our cuisine. Heard this in the Twilight Zine movie about Quitters Inc.
I'm going to tell you something right now! This the finest production I have ever heard of this tune! I hear things I have never heard! Excellent work 👍
That was our favorite dance song in the 60’s. Every local band knew how to play it. They were an American garage rock band from Bay City and Saginaw Michigan.
This would play on KHJ Boss Radio in my '64 Econoline Van every day in '66 while driving home from Huntington Beach (in SoCal) after a day of surfing. A great trip down memory lane, thanks!
to this day still a gem in my book and as a Veteran, still love the garage bands of the rock n roll era of the 50s and 60s and love this song forever n will love it until i am gone from this place called Earth!!!
I have absolutely no rythm and never in my life have I danced. When I hear this song, I feel various parts of my body strangely begin wanting to move uncontrollably, and it's very difficult to bring under control. Are these the symptoms of a seizure? Great job on the enhancement. 👍👍👍
Oh man, there are some songs that are just stuck in my brain and this is one of them! I could have a severe case of dementia but if this song comes on in some nursing home, I'm sure I'll jump up and start dancing! Nurse! I can't help it! Oh baby! Go baby, go! Let me hear you cry now! Come on!
I was given this single for my 18th birthday in 1967...it was the only gift this person who was my lover ever gave me! Soon after we went our separate ways...but the song still remains relevant after so many decades that it feels like centuries ...especially now that's been enhanced by a genius...Thanks!👏
This song bring's back great memories of my oldest brother Sal. He bought the record on the Cameo lable a week before he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1966. RIP Carnal
I so appreciate the work you put into the music. Wearing headphones brings so much more. For me, drums seem to be in the background. I love drums ( Ginger Baker ) . Thank you for all the effort you put into this.
I agree, as much as I enjoy having this blast in the Kitchen as I stand outside with a smoke, but with a decent set of headphones, it adds a new dimension and you hear instruments you didnt previously notice.
Such a wonderful & enjoyable enhancement/augmentation/clean up of a song that I have enjoyed since grade school. You have my deepest admiration and respect, Kenn Wingle!
Yes, I too noticed that the bass in the bridge is out of tune- not with the organ but with it itself ( bad bass string or intonation problem??). Thanks for finding a way to remedy this...
I think I first heard this song in 1966 when I was just 17 years old. I had just started clubbing. I remember the location, the club and some of the people I met that night. Great memories!
I remember hearing this in movies and past tv shows and commercials but I never knew who composed this. I think this was arguably the most loved song of the 60s!!!!!
I was wondering when someone would get around to do a refresh to this great 60’s Classic-leave to to Kenn Wingle to do the task-with flying colors!Thnx,Kenn!!
I could not find a stereo version to work with cause the few I did find had the vocal on left channel and the music on the right and other problems. I used a mono version and worked it from there so it was done with the original recording. Didn't turn out too bad at that I'd say! Kenn

Originally recorded for the small Pa-Go-Go label in Texas in mono in early 1966, this song was never remixed or re-recorded into true stereo, usually appearing in mono or fake electronic stereo on many compilations or oldies albums. Your remix is pretty good, particularly the fact you can hear Bobby Balderrama's lead guitar up-front, as it was originally buried in the original mono mix with Frank Rodriguez's organ.
@@randybrown7819 That was a remake recorded in the late 70's for Dominion Enterprises, which own the labels ERA, K-Tel, and Gusto Records. They made a lot of re-recordings of then-still living artists who remade the oldies for many oldies compilations , many of them currently issued on Madacy Records, a Canadian-based CD company that specializes in remakes of oldies. They are used if the small record company cannot afford or cannot get permission to the rights to the original master tapes from the larger record companies. I, like many other fans prefer the original recording from 1966. As I said in the earlier post, "96 Tears" was originally recorded for a small independent label from Texas (Pa-Go-Go Records) and was later leased to Cameo-Parkway Records of Philadelphia to become a major hit. The Mysterians relocated from El Paso, Texas to Flint Michigan around the time "96 Tears" was released, so they had no trouble getting Detroit stations like WKNR and CKLW to play "96 Tears" since the Detroit DJ's liked The Mysterians because they were new and different, and a little bit weird, since leader Rudy Martinez was quite a bit of a character, who would wear dark sunglasses in public, even at night when they went out on tour, and he insisted to fans to refer to him as "Question Mark", not "Rudy."
My favorite 60s song and Laugh, Laugh as well as Happy Together and Hush. One of the best band names, ever. "You're gonna cry 96 tears"x2 "you're gonna cry, cry, cry, cry, 96 tears, all day, all night long, 96 tears." It is amazing and something we can at least hold on to, but never get back. Like Peter Fonda RIP said about the 60's in The Limey, "It was mostly 66, and late 67."
Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin'
Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on
You're way on top now
Tu as largement le dessus maintenant
Since you left me
Depuis que tu m'as quitté
You're always laughin'
Tu ris tout le temps
Way down at me
Et me mets plus bas que terre
But watch out now
Mais fais attention maintenant
I'm gonna get there
Je vais aller là-bas
We'll be together
Nous serons ensemble
For just a little while
Seulement un bref moment
And then I'm gonna put you
Et puis je vais te mettre
Way down here
Le moral à zéro
And you'll start cryin'
Et tu vas te mettre à pleurer
Ninety-six tears
Quatre-vingt seize larmes
Cry
Pleure
Cry
PleureAnd when the sun comes up
Et au lever du soleil
I'll be on top
J'aurai le dessus
You'll be way down there
Lookin' up
Tu lèveras la tête
And I might wave
Come up here
Pour que tu me rejoignes
But I don't see you
Mais je ne te vois pas
Wavin' now
I'm way down here
Wonderin' how
Me demandant comment
I'm gonna get you
Je vais réussir à t'avoir
But I know now
Mais je sais maintenant
I'll just cry, cry, I'll just cry

Too many teardrops for one heart
Trop de larmes pour un coeur

You're gonna cry ninety-six tears
Tu vas pleurer quatre-vingt-seize larmes
You're gonna cry cry, cry, cry, now
