- How to repair broken solar panel glass. After the fiberglass resin started flaking, I discover it breaks down in sunlight. So it was time to find a better way to repair the broken solar panel glass and fix it right this time.

2 months and the resin is cracking. No discoloration. Applied a layer of rustoleum flex from home depot, $6, and it looks tough again. Definitely recommend it over a hard resin but you need that hard resin to support the weight of the broken glass so it doesn't droop. Again, you have the only video worth watching on this subject so thanks again.

i see where you said you had gone to a clear outdoor paint in the comments section, i would think something like a 2 part automotive clear coat or even a marine hull clear coat might also be an option, thanks for the vid
The key to repair is using a very fine roller and putting it on thin and multiple layers
Good video, maybe I will find a broken panel and try something similar on my channel.
Many years have now passed so is the panel still going strong? Out of interest was there a marked increase in output after the polyurethane?👍
Have not tested the output to see if it has changed. Use clear outdoor paint, it will last longer than the polyurethane.

Is most of the damage from impact or is there some kind of stress in the racking system?
The fellow I bought my panels from was repairing a bunch of shattered panels from a truck wreck during transport and he used what you are using, minwax satin gloss polyurethane, he said don't use high gloss because it will reflect the light and put it on thick
Would you still recommend the Fiberglass Resin after having to do this repair with the poly?
The poly has lasted longer. I would go with the poly.
I literally just got done applying fiberglass resin. I may have to just go over it with a layer of poly later to protect the resin. Thanks for the reply. I just scored a 215 watt 48 volt panel for $50 and with $20 was able to make it like new again thanks you your video. I saved over $200 compared to purchasing new.

Sounds like you got a great deal on it. Let me know how it turns out after you put poly on top. I have not had any more chipping after adding the poly.
Should be done by tomorrow. Just gotta let the resin cure!
Resin cured VERY thin. Very flaky. Considering one flake can compromise the whole seal, you either have to lay it on thick, scrape and reapply when yellow or use resin, then top coat it with something less flaky/more durable.

Why don't you cut new glass? Here the glass 1.6 x 1 m is about 15-20 euro . I don't know if they use normal glass or some other type that is more transparent to the UV, like the quartz glass.
I wanted to but the panels are attached to the glass with epoxy or something like it.
I have a 250w broken board now that gives 5v how I can fix it
If you can get to the back of the panel where the soldering connection are. You can try to re-solder the connections. With most panels being glued together, the odds on fixing it is very small.
