      Same here. 1out of 2 top name 200W panels arrived shattered from the manufacturer. Had to send some pictures and was told to not send it back. Will be nice to have 3 panels for the price of 2 after this panel rehab.

    Can I replace the solar panels glass with acrylic sheet on the solar panels

    • @erikszewczyk
      @erikszewczyk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not, acrylic tends to have lower UV transmittance (especially at lower wavelengths which contain the highest energy) - that's part of the reason I picked this product specifically for my repair. Also note that Acrylic tends to break down and yellow in the sun, another good reason to avoid.

    Im looking for the glass vaccum injection substance they use to repair car windshields plzzz.....but about your video ...are you sure that substsnce wont change color overtime....or tensile strenght.....can add multiple layers better no?

    • @erikszewczyk
      @erikszewczyk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about auto glass substance, my biggest concern would be the UV transmission; if it blocks any of the UV it'll reduce your panel's power output.
      For me the product I used has held up very well, no discoloration after 16 months. Make sure to see my 6 month follow-up video on this as well:

    Nice work, what's the price of this QSil product and what's the application experience like smellwise? Is a very volatile substance you need strong ventilation for?

    • @erikszewczyk
      @erikszewczyk  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best place I found was on Amazon, right now looks like it's going for about $28, link here: amzn.to/2hhWTGq
      It's not terribly volatile, purely from the smell I would say only a little more than latex paint. I did it in my garage without extra ventilation which is about 10k cu ft as you see on the video. NOTE: This is purely subjective, and you should always exercise caution to ensure adequate ventilation.

    I used polyurethane to repair one of my panels last Fall. It worked great. However after full-time expose to the sun in New Mexico now about 7-8 months later, the polyurethane is delaminating from the panel. It’s just started so i will scuff the surface and reapply. Its hard to correctly prep the solar panel surface in the original repair because i didn’t want to scratch the solar cells. Its a lot if UV.

    • @erikszewczyk
      @erikszewczyk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the problem with polyurethane is it breaks down in UV. I used the product in this article because it says it will last for years without breaking down - see my followup article/video after ~6-7 months, I havent noticed any breakdown yet and havent had to do anything (other than keep it clean) since. Just bear in mind that you probably get 3x the UV I do over the winter months :)

      It's to soft for my liking. Went to clean my panel and it just starting rubbing off.... it's a bitch to clean of as well.... any body know what I can use that cleans this stuff off???

    • @wanderingquestions7501
      @wanderingquestions7501 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      16vastraturbo - I was able to scrape the polyurethane off with a safety razor. Since it was delaminating it scraped off relatively easily. It took some effort but i got over 95%off. Unfortunately I tried to reapply the polyurethane as a spray and it has only lated about 1 month before delaminating again.

    • @erikszewczyk
      @erikszewczyk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not yet, it's only a few months old. Spec says it shouldn't yellow and should be good for the life of the panel...but YMMV

      I used about 90% of the kit I linked in the description (saving the last 10% in case I wanted to touch it up). The panel in this video is a 100w monocrystalline panel.
      Glad you enjoyed it,

    • @TrackGeeks

      Thanks. I'm trying to judge if a single kit would be enough to do a 285w panel.

    • @erikszewczyk
      @erikszewczyk  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I don't think that would be enough - I think you'd need at least 2 and possibly 3. I think even 2 would be too thin, so I would get 3x just to be safe.
