    Hello everyone,
this time we are glad to show you Piana degli Albanesi, another village in the province of Palermo.
The official name of the town was Piana dei Greci until 1941. This village is situated on a mountainous plateau and encircled by high mountains, on the eastern side of the imposing Mount Pizzuta, the city, which is mirrored on a large lake. Piana degli Albanesi is 24 km far from Palermo, the capital of Sicily.
Piana degli Albanesi was founded in the late 15th century by a large group of Albanian refugees coming from the Balkans during the conquest of the latter by the Ottoman Empire. The exodus began after the death of Skanderbeg, who successfully fought Ottoman armies for more than two decades.
The town is the most important center of the Albanians of Sicily, as well as the largest and most populous colony of Arbëreshë (Italo-Albanian or Albanians of Italy) and it is the episcopal see of the Eparchy of Piana degli Albanesi, constituency of the Italo-Albanian Church whose jurisdiction covers all Albanians of Sicily who practice the Byzantine rite.
The community, after five centuries from its foundation, has maintained many ethnic elements of Albanian culture like language, religious ritual, traditional costumes, music and folklore.
Piana degli Albanesi boasts a great local gastronomy. It offers dishes and desserts typical of the Sicilian-Albanian tradition, in which one can note the presence of elements deriving from the Balkans and the Mediterranean. The delicious bread and cannoli from Piana degli Albanesi are very popular in the entire Sicily!

noi italiani e gli albanesi siamo fratelli di sangue.
la Maggior parte degli italiani ha origini arbereshe.
tantissimi nemmeno sanno di averla, io considero il popolo albanese come fratello, condividiamo gli stessi valori.

When all the planet is suffering a bigger problem these are stupid questions. Planet Earth should be our common place. People should be proud and passionate about their heritage but fanaticisms always bring to madness.

@@tonidone1309 Rightfully their?! How monasteries and pallaces of serbian kings thousands of years old are rightfully theirs? How Kosovo is theirs when even Kosovo is Serbian word, every stone on Kosovo has serbian name? And if tearing people apart for organs is peacefull than yes they are peacefull, if crucifiing of electricians and postmans is peacefull than they are Indeed the most peacefull people of Europe, if kidnaping of wood rangers and torturing them is act of noble peacefull people, than I have no argument. Illyrians were one minor tribe in space of todays Dalmatia Croatia, and they existed in area of Croatia and Montenegro, Illyrians were sailors, wariors, and they had 100 terms for sea fish, Albanians have no naval words of their own they are taken from other languages, Ilyrians were tallest people of Roman empire, Dalmatians, Hertzegovians and Montenegrins are tallest people in the world, Albanians are average 1,7m for man, they have no connections with Illyrians, and no scientific proof they existed on Balcan in roman period, why? Time and date of both albanian arivals on Balcan is known to us, on 1000 years ago, second 600 years ago, those people are NOT AUTOCHTONOUS, they are agressive invaders.
