Hello Nico, Thank you for this posting. I live in New Orleans USA. All four of my grandparents were born and raised in Piana. I am, like yourself, 100% purebred Sicilian. I have never been there but I am looking forward to my first visit. Ciao, Demetrio
Actually the land where the albanians settled in italy where gifted by the vatican and the king of naples after the death of skenderbeg who fought back the ottomans for 25 years
Italians fond of history know it also for the horrible Massacre of Portella della Ginestra, the first of the many unresolved mysteries of the Italian history after WWII (like Enrico Mattei’s murder, Piazza Fontana, Ustica and so on). Still, it should be a very fascinating town. And it should be a great way to escape the summer heat while in Sicily.
Someone told me it not a real Sicilian since my great grandfather (before moving too America) came from Piana Degli Albanesi. Which is weird because he had his own Sicilian dialect and everything
My Grandparents and Mother came to New Orleans USA from Piana Deli Albenesi. Thanks for posting
Sicilians are Albanians that moved after Skenderbeg died!!
