    You have to think like somebody who wants to make money and not a gearhead. The point of the LC was that they could park it next to a Corolla at the dealer and people would assume the Corolla won't need repairs for 25 years just like the LC. Toyota doesn't need to do that any more.
    Plus the 3rd row setup of the LC is a bit wonky for a $85,000 SUV sold in America.
    Now this whole time they have had the seqoia which is a more appropriate competitor to the Tahoe, yukon, expy, and armada.
    Why have both? How about upgrade the seqoia?

      RODRI BLANQUET Actually I own a tacoma and a 4runner. Almost half a million miles combined. I'll still give Toyota shit for not giving more. They're getting screwy with the offroad packages, this and the rav4 TRD "offroad" are prime examples. A rear locker should be minimum to live up to the extra price of the offroad package. The TRD offroad was a staple for meaning rear locker. Now its wheels and tires that make the cut. What's next, a offroad Prius because it has black wheels?

    • @chrischambless

      James Taylor that’s the point I was going to make. These guys are ripping on the 0.7” ADDITIONAL travel but its already a winner on ground clearance. Ground clearance matters more than travel offroad unless you’re jumping dunes. The major appeal of the Sequoia is cargo space, people space, and towing. So now you can get that with Fox bypass shocks. That’s awesome!

      They already made Land Cruiser TRD for the middle east market (especially UAE), alongside Extreme edition and Diesel engine versions.
      But for the US market things are a little different for both Toyota and Nissan.
      They don't have any Sequoia sales in middle east market, just like Nissan that doesn't have Armada sales in middle east, but they have various interesting options for Land Cruiser and Patrol in the middle east market for high prices.

      @@jamesb8467 Yeah in a lot of markets they're all just concept vehicles not for sale but things are different in middle east market because they pay a lot for their favorite vehicles.
      For example, Nissan has a Nismo edition of Patrol which has 450hp with high quality materials and better looking. Also Land Cruiser has various editions like GT (Grand Touring), GXR, VXR, VXS &... (they have 3 petrol engine options, 4.0L, 4.6L, 5.7L and also a Turbo diesel V8).

Toyota keeps moving slowly to minimize the want of the LC due to similar offerings at a lesser price for the average person.

    I find the Sequoia segment rather pointless. Just make an affordable Land Cruiser trim, and then have your LC XLE trim and whatnot. What family needs to seat 7/8 adults on the regular? Isn't that what minivans are for? If you want to off-road all those ppl then get a an LC. At least an LC is a global vehicle, you can find parts easily. They really out to make a price matched LC affordable trim and get rid of the Sequoia. (Not that any of these vehicles are affordable for the average family anyway) It would save Toyota a lot of money on resources and make them more money overall. The Sequoia is an outdated platform, it's really for a tiny niche market.

    Those who bought the first model of this sequoia body got a great value. With each remodel/refresh it would lessen the value of previous one. It’s going to be a ‘special edition’ before the next generation comes out. Can’t wait for the next one to come out though.

    Ok, Sequoia TRD Pro gets so some trim, shocks, exhaust, new grill and finally a touch screen update. But I'm good with my 2018 SR5 on KO2s and key start (for a lot less), same motor and everything else
    .

  • @CalUSAF311
    @CalUSAF311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think adding the Readylift SST TRD Pro 2 rebuild kits dramatically increases stance and 35x11.5 Ridge Grapplers set the whole thing off.
    That’s 4.5” lifted over SR5, 1794 and Premium with 35” mud tires designed for a quiet and calm ride but don’t know how to quit in mud, rock or sand!!
    I’ve been back and forth with my wife for 2 months over this possibility. She’s got a 2018 4Runner Trd off road, lifted 3” in front/ 2” rear on some 33” KO2s. (Only because she ordered the tires before I got the Nitto Ridge Grapplers on it.)
    We’re seriously considering the change for two reasons alone: size/comfort and engine power. If the 4Runner offered the 5.7 with paired 6 speed auto, there’d be no contest which SUV/crossover was the First Place Winner!!!!
    But it’s not and right off the lot, the TRD PRO Sequoia would be 4” taller than stock on 35”x11.5 tires still, 100% retaining full flex and tube capabilities of those glorious Fox Shocks w/ 6” reservoirs.

    Bought an 02 Sequoia Limited 4x4 last year for $3500. It's 80% the luxury and off-roadability of a Land Cruiser for a tenth of the price. It went through a creek no problem. I enjoyed it's auto climate control and heated leather seats while going through ice storms and blizzards with no problems. I enjoyed it's sunroof when I'm not driving through hail and tornado producing storms. I enjoy having the safety of side and curtain airbags and traction and stability control just as much as having an honest-to-goodness transfer case lever. After I chucked the 6-disk CD radio for a nav/rear cam/bluetooth set, I don't feel technologically inferior. Oh yeah, it's headed for 300k miles this year with no squeaks, drips, chips, dents or tears and the 4.7L still passes the Lexus test.

    We have an 08 Sequoia. Mostly the wife drives it. She had full size GMC trucks, Suburban and Yukon XL and says this is her favorite. I put my DRZ400 on a hitch carrier and drove 2200 to Utah. I even slept in it on the way there and did great. I've driven in deep snow (18") on the road and once I push all the right buttons it did fine. Would I take it places I bring my 03 Rubicon? No. However I keep thinking about making it an Overland vehicle. Nobody is using this platform so maybe Toyota is hoping to steer people that way.

    @kevindiekmann8770 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Let me preface by saying I daily drive and weekend wheel a 2001 sequoia with 222000 miles on it with a mild lift. I really prefer Toyota brand vehicles. Having said that I would now like to say come on Toyota this is below you. This is not in your tradition of "branding" TRD. TRD Pro means to us off-road prowess. TRD pro often gets put up against the rubicon and chevy ZR2. This is just pathetic. TRD pro is not just stickers and wheels. What a let down.

    Toyota has changed the Corolla, Sienna, Camry, etc but they have FAILED in updating this segment of their vehicles. Can we PLEASE stop buying the same old Toyotas until they change them ALL up?! I have an 08 Tacoma and I see absolutely ZERO reason to upgrade to any newer truck from them as the price does not justify the slightest updates to the Tacoma or Tundra. Please please stop buying them and send Toyota a message to redesign the whole lineup.

  • @RobbDzzz
    @RobbDzzz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Roman all trim levels are a "Marketing thing". None of the TRD Pro series have anything that isn't on other trim levels. A TRD Pro Tacoma has nothing going for it other than the Desert Air Intake and Fox Shocks. The tires, and off road goodies are otherwise the same as a TRD Off Road... It's just another trip package. Same for the 4Runner, Tundra and now Sequoia.
    Nathan for the win.

  • @rxonmymind8362
    @rxonmymind8362 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I went and looked at the Tundra today. No grab handles or roof handles to get into the truck. With bad knees it's a MUST for me. Pissed me off. Available on the passenger side but not driver. How much did they save by not having that? Need a full size bed too. Dealership had a 2018 red Platinum for $47k. Liked the leather cooled & heated seats the huge amount of of room in the back seats. Almost my next truck. I can wait till they get it right.

  • @kelllessley4017
    @kelllessley4017 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The deal with the TRD lineup is this: The Sequoia isn’t getting a redesign because while the truck has steady sales, it cannot hope to compete with Ford and Chevy. Toyota adds push-button start, TSS-P, a new infotainment and a fresh look to keep sales steady for an otherwise relic of a car. The 4runner is the best-seller of the group, Toyota didnt have to put in a new touchscreen, TSS-P, or push-button start because no matter what the 4runner is the go-to for teenagers, soccer moms, and 40 year old men trying to prove their masculinity. And lets be honest, besides the wrangler, the 4runner has zero competition. The Tacoma got the most attention from Toyota including a redesign to the regular model. Why? The Tacoma is currently the best small pickup truck practically by default and with real competition like the Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator, Toyota wants to hold on to this segment no matter what. As for the Tundra, no matter what Toyota does, the Tundra will remain the bottom line. The simple truth is people will continue to buy American trucks. All Toyota can do is keep the Tundra fresh enough to get ahead of the Titan and keep their buyer base happy. Toyota COULD redesign the Sequoia, they COULD steal sales from the Tahoe and Expedition, but there is too much risk in losing money and alienating their buyer base. They’re playing the safe game and I can respect that.

    I think I like it. I think the 4Runners are too narrow for carrying 3 sets of golf clubs and push carts and luggage for 4. Won’t be doing any rock crawling in it. Should fit my needs, without the LC price tag and I won’t be driving around the World. Gulf coast of the U.S. My neighbors have 300k miles on their Sequoia and they love it.

    So shopping malls of America will have dueling high-end Toyotas. Toyota is missing the mark and is just looking tired, completely unwilling to take risk in a time where we are seeking the advent of American truck resurgence. I do like the bigger engine, maybe a Quigley 4x4 makeover will make it of interest to the overloading crowd.

    Why is Toyota watering town the TRD and TRD Pro name?
    My wife has a Sequoia. We both love it. It is awesome for what it was intended to be. But this is not anywhere an off road vehicle. It is a pig when it comes to handling on road and cannot imagine the nightmare it would be off road not matter how good of a suspension or wheels you put on it. My Tacoma TRD Off Road will be pulling to 'TRD Pro" Sequoia next time we go overlanding I am sure. Or even out of a ditch.
    Again I think this is a dumb move by Toyota in the long run.

    I been wanting Sequoia TRD pro to use as a travel suv to remote areas to hike but not necessary “off road” but some dirt and gravel roads. I’m also hoping to use it as a camper while I’m on a hiking or backpacking trip. Is Sequoia is a good suv for that purpose? I don’t like the way back seats of Land Cruiser folded to the side which decrease the cargo/sleeping space.

    I have a 2016 Platinum Sequoia and if they want to sell more they will start putting in the bells and whistles that all the other new cars have...Its like Toyota was resting on their laurels too long with the Sequoia... No push button start on mine, small infotainment system that is very lackluster compared with my kia niro, the passenger seat only has basic movement and is uncomfortable when compared with the drivers seat, the heated seats dont really heat and the air conditioned seats dont really get cool... The gas mileage sucks but I knew that going in, the remote start is goofy in the way it works.... For what I paid I should have bought a new suburban or tahoe....I am glad that it will hold more of its value down the road than will a tahoe or burb comparatively but come on Toyota....Get with the program....
