This my dude here, he’s a personal friend for many years and an amazing person and one of the best drummers around. Great interview Ralph, I have two of the same cymbals that you use 😊 too.
Hands down my biggest drum mentor. the lessons he's taught me has taken me around the world and back👊🏾
Love this amazing drummer and person. He's like a son to me
Talk about a “ Great Drummer 🥁 “ … Ralph is a awesome drummer and I love how gave props to the Late Great Drummer Tony Thompson who made the “ CHIC Sound “ popular and he paid tribute to him! Thanks for interviewing Ralph.
Those black pinstripes bring the thickness! It's a sound with a primal feel. Great for dancing.
Great to see Ralph Rolle feature.
Love these rig rundown videos! Thanks David and MD! Especially when the drummer REALLY cares about his gear and sound like Ralph. That’s it, open handed from now on!
I’m a huge fan of Ralph’s hi hat grooves, and I’ve borrowed that “slap the top” sound from him.
What a drummer and nice guy
Very tasty! Very Carter B esque. Love it❤❤❤
Open handed technique, love it!
a natural talent, saw him live. what a good singer too! effortless
One of the best drummers i ever seen....He plays tight, funky and he almost dance around his Drumkit.
I also play the VATER Drumsticks... Best handling Sticks with a great Balance & nice Sound...
Thank you for sharing this amazing video ❤
very good moment ! thanks for that
Love this guy. So passionate, so educated. Amazing video amazing knawlegde
Wicked drummer!
Such groove
hey Ralf good stuff..
Everything this man described is exactly in my setup. My drums have ebony pinstripes on it because I love the quickness and the low end
Also with the cymbals zildjians cut anyway but quicker faster sounding hats and crashes is my thing also like Ralph. Man from the cymbal selection to the heads his setup so similar to mine
Cool stuff
This setup is giving me Carter Beauford vibes
Bello/magnifico.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👑
Fantástico increíble bravo bravo increíble Rey ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🥁💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Another class act and such a wise drummer. I have a couple left handed students that I am teaching open handed as well. However, I am not switching the Ride to their Left side. I am teaching them to play the ride patterns with their RH. More like a Gary Chester, New Breed, technique, although it will take them more time to master. Question, would you recommend LH drummers lead with their right hand when playing fills on a RH kit? I couldn't tell which hand you lead with when you did a few fills here in this video. Thanks for the awesome content David and Ralph. Be blessed!
Thanks for chiming in. I really appreciate it.
I lead with my right hand when doing fills. Whatever is comfortable is what works. Techniques have a way of morphing and changing. Open handed drumming was a common thing until Cobham, Lenny White, Simon Philips made it ok. The understand the core of a groove and what works for the music is all that counts. Bernard Purdie and Steve Gadd and Harvey Mason are the examples of how to groove with any style. If you want to work for your entire life, find what works for each song and not for you. How you get there is all about your confidence and your humility.
What Remo snare head is that? Amazing!
Mejor del mundo europa
What kind of heads are there on the snares? Kevlar? Nice tone!
I believe those are Remo Black Suede but not sure whether an Ambassador or an Emperor.
💞💞💞💞💞💞🔥💯💯💯💯💫😮
Ralph is such a groove machine shame it was done this way would have been nicer in a more controlled manner
I could never get on board with black drumheads.
Racist
