Parampara (meaning the succession) is a 1990 Malayalam film directed by Sibi Malayil, written by S. N. Swamy, and starring Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, and Sumalatha. Mammootty plays two roles in the film, portraying both Johny, the protagonist, and Lawrence, his father.
When his son is kidnapped by rival gang, Johny teams up with his estranged father (Johny's mother was murdered by his father's enemies) to rescue the kidnapped child.

I have seen this movie only once but the English version , I have seen twice. I wd like to make the following comments:
1. I respect Mr Sibi Malayil as a person as also has utmost regard for his cinematic vision. However, down the lane, he seems to be losing this vital aspect. He can't have a self pity that no good screen writer is around ever since the untimely departure of our " secret pride " Lohi Sir. "PARAMPARA's screenplay was absolutely fantastic ( I do not remember who did) but it was a sad commentary on the Directorial vision.
2. Mr Mammootty also, very sorry to say , was a big disappointment on both father and son.
3. More than 20 years over since the film has been made, still I feel, it could have been a classic movie, if the scenario wd have been otherwise!
Notwithstanding the above, I am an ardent observer of both the Director and the Actor.
