Hey All, Now I enjoyed these big Logs. I know there heavy and a Pain, But it sure does make for some fine watching. Thanks for the video Mark, Eddie and Mark.
Mark, "reading" a log is truly an art 👍👍My Grandpa taught me how to "read" a log when splitting it for fire wood. The only good thing about 19' is more saw "hum" and the Bus Motor Governor kicking in...Love it!
Man I wish we were having a cool 85 here it’s 95 down here in south Alabama and north west Fl and no wind and the humidity is about 98 but it’s not as bad as snow on the ground God Bless Y’all up there and have a great day
Man those logs just keep going on and on and on through the saw they were long! I thought you were going to bust the bottom wall out a few times mark! Lol🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your feed rate explanation makes pefect sense. TBT, the folks running their mill flat out video from far enough away that their motor/blade sounds are not easily heard
And the band plays on, and the summer snow falls freely to the ground. The 19 footers most definately be rattling and riding the rails. Nice to see you all in operation again enjoyin what make you happy.
The third get on ‘er arm is back in the swing! Love it fellas, we have a big order for beams coming up soon gonna be cutting lots of longer timbers. Be well! ❤
Really nice lumber, great results. In the 1960's we were one of 4 logging contractors that was directed to cut all high grade logs into 18-20' lgths because the mill had received a huge order for #1 (or better) long length 'architectural dense grain' lumber. We were in very tall SYP timber (the finest timber I've ever seen grown in Arkansas) with diameter's of what you sawed today (average 5-6 trees per load). When a tree hit the ground, the first log was an 18 or 20ft and then the next 2-3 logs cut into lgths that utilized the remaining tree. After 4 weeks of "covering the mill up", the mill's woods supervisor came back and said, "you guys can stop, cut some of those (trees) into 14 and 16 footers, we have that order filled". Lol, we were just sending what they requested.
Hello from NH! We run a simonds saw also quite abit smaller but your absolutely right depending on how sharp or how the saw sounds you figure your feed rate, cant force it through especially if its cutting a biggin like you were. Love your videos! Thinking about starting a small channel myself :)
I love your narrative about what you’re sawing. I learn so much with every video I watch. From the Pacific Northwest with all the lumber we have, I now understand what my sons are talking about when they talk about the saw mills. Thank you!
You are doing a good job listening to that Detroit….it tells you exactly how fast you can feed the log. I think you are very well tuned in to the sound of the diesel and the saw communicating you are right on spot with the feed speed.
Having breakfast and sawing logs. Gonna be a good day. Your voice also reminded me Big Joe on The big Joe Polka show so now I will go over and enjoy some Polka music. Thanks!
I like it when the third get on ‘er lever comes into play! Glad you’re doing well fellas. In regard to feed speed, not many channels are running such big wood! Also like you said the sound and feel of each machine is different Super duper south can run that carriage faster than I can think, alternatively Dave and I saw as a “heavy hobby” so until production needs to come up we are quite happy most days with our slower feed. Sawdust is still chunky 👍 ❤
I'm new to the platform, haven't even subscribed yet. Just learning all the methods. But what I noticed differently is that one flag up there, isn't flapping in the wind like it was. I'm Robbie and 68 yrs. old. Take CARE and stay SAFE. 🌲🌳🪵🪚⚙️
Good video! That is some nice-looking wood. Hey, Mark - maybe you should put a small 12-volt fan blowing on the camera. That may be just enough moving air to keep the camera cool during these hot days. You may be able to mount it above the camera blowing down and it wouldn't need to rotate with the camera.
I have a suggestion, while working with longer logs why not hang a convex mirror on the end wall to see where the log is at while moving making you aware of the end of the log. Mirrors like this are used on front end alignment racks to see where the tires are at while driving on so you don't fall off the rack.
@@markgalicic7788hey Mark, ever fear slipping and putting one of those long logs on the carriage and running it back through the wall? All it would take is an inch too much tail overhang when loading the carriage.
Nine o’clock in the morning back in having breakfast I like the boards coming off the mill ,todays job is laying a hay loft floor inch and a half by eight step boards from the mill screwed down nice easy job for two of us , my drill driver is Milwaukee bought a new one yesterday the old one is nearly ten years old it’s had new batteries still works as new I’ve had others they don’t last long and there batteries aren’t as strong , anyway you guys have a nice day
Not sure what changes you were suggesting... but I noticed the “Beware of Dog” sign is hanging by the Diesel banner and not on the master dog. If you ever have to saw 19’ footers again you’d better hang an old tire tube under the green-white-green flag to act as a bumper. Sorry about the overheated conditions. Some have suggested ceiling fans for circulating hot air. I was thinking about an evaporative cooler, California Chillers work by misting water which drop temperatures. This solution would require spraying water mist probably above the receiving area and your cab but would probably add to corrosion in your equipment. Sorry I don’t have a better suggestion. Wishing you and your team a great week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
Due to the size and weight, your Booms were more like Thuds today. I have had concerns about a log hitting that back wall and today those concerns were valid. It looks like the men had to work a little harder today. I had a power outage last night for a few hours; what is the name of that battery that you use and is it still good????? Thanks!!!!! Good to see you all.
We didn't see what was different but on days like that a couple of ceiling fans might make the crew happy? Grandpa was wondering if 2"x4"x16' isn't Mr. Horvath's favorite, does he like 2"x4"x19' better? The wheel measures to the carriage side of the blade and they're cutting actual 2x4s. The blade is 1/4" thick so to get two 4" boards they need to include the 1/4" in the first cut. So cut at 8-1/4 then cut that in half at 4" if that makes sense.
