Were the Ancient Egyptians Black or White?

  • There has been a long-standing controversy as to the ethnicity of the ancient peoples of the Nile Valley, Egypt. The lingering question is whether they were 'black' or 'white'. Some have argued for the former while others, the latter. A few others remain neutral opining that it was neither black nor white. #HistoryVille

Today Egyptians say they're the descenders of Shem, but Cush is the Decender of Ham. So if White People and Arabs want to claim Egypt theirs, than accept the fact you're Ham's Children, not Shem.

We can tackle this in many way.
The one I used in a video of mine a few weeks ago. Is to trace the culture along the Nile. As the Kemites oriented themselves towards the source of the Nile.
We can also use their Mythology.
Mainstream media says Kemet means Black Land. Okay fine.
According to the creation story of Knhum. He made the Kemites from the silt of the Nile which is Black in color.
So even if Kemet meant Black soil instead of Black people. Their myths already show their origin.
Another one is they say Punt is the land of the ancestors. (Mind you.. The Kemites were not a monolith. They were various African peoples)
Punt according to the dominant perspective lies within Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan and Somaliland.
Those are all Black people since time immemorial.

I agree. People always follow river valleys. The ancestors of the Ancient Egyptians followed the Blue Nile from Ethiopian highlands, the White Nile from Uganda and Sudan and the now dry Saharan tributaries of the Nile.

Good story but unfortunately, no. Scientists have traced the spread of genes from the OOA exit 73,000 years ago to the migrations of the U5 haplogroup into Europe and its sister clade U6 into North Africa 45,000 years ago. The DNA evidence shows a continuity with modern Egyptians dating to between 23,000 and 39,000 years. Humans have been migrating all around the Mediterranean for much longer than humans have been settling around the Nile.

Suppose the ancient Egyptians were black. That’s not a win for black Americans, because their ancestors were from West Africa, the other side of the continent. Their ancient ancestors’ tribes had very little interaction with the ancient Egyptians. The ancient Egyptians interacted mostly with Libyans, Ethiopians, and Sudanese in Africa, and various Canaanites, Greeks, and Phoenicians. Egypt became might from its sea trade with Mediterranean nations.

    • @quentingardner9626
      @quentingardner9626 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Black Americans are not trying to “win” ancient Egypt. Slavery erased our history and made it appear that we contributed nothing to civilization, which is a lie. This was intentionally done by white Europeans and white Americans. We don’t look at Africa and think west and east and sub-Saharan. We think of people with whom we are genetically and historically linked no matter which part of the African continent they come from. We see ALL indigenous Africans as being a part of us.
And ancient Egypt did NOT become might from some sea trade with Mediterranean nations. Ancient Egyptian history goes back far more than the 3 or 4 thousand years of the period most people consider ancient Egypt. Some suspect it goes back 10 or 15 thousand years. The so called Mediterranean nations were not nations when Egypt greatness was developing, they were tribes and mostly insignificant when compared to the ancient Egyptians.
The ancient Egyptians, in their per-history, had a significant amount of interaction with West Africans and Central Africans. The Sahara was not always a desert and African people were able to migrate easily across Africa. When the Sahara dried up it forced people who had been living there to migrate in all directions, including toward the Nile. These people, along with people from Central Africa, settled in the Nile valley and their numerous cultures, along with the people already there, sparked the growth of ancient Egypt. The amalgamation of numerous African cultures and the Nile’s fertile silt (that made it perfect for growing food) created the magnificent ancient Egypt.
The various disciplines that study ancient Egypt are now finding many linguistic and cultural connections between Ancient Egypt and sub Saharan Africa. Greeks and Romans and Persians and Arabs came thousands of years after ancient Egypt’s greatness had already been established. Ancient Egypt was a black African civilization through and through.

@@adeamujaleThe Nile is not in West Africa, genius. Also, the Nile is not navigable past Khartoum, so it is unlikely that civilizational development in Egypt originated from areas past Khartoum. In fact, archaeologists have not found evidence of earlier civilizations or societies along the Nile from the same period as the rise of Egyptian civilization. There’s also no evidence that the Africans that started the Egyptian civilization were descendants of any breakaway tribe from West Africa. None. You are literally grasping at straws to establish a link between yourself, a descendant of West Africans, and ancient Egypt. That link is simply not there.

    @Black Rampage 2
You are looking for someone to spoonfeed you.
    here is the likely truth:
The Egyptians of today are Arabs, and you can the same for most of northern Africa.
They have been conquered by different people over several millennia. The Europeans, The Persians, Arabs, etc.
Even if they were Black at the onset, they wouldn't be Black today because of the above.
I will ask you a quick question to think about.
    Are Australians "Black-like"?
You see, that is a wrong or an incomplete question to ask at the very least!
The Australians of today are predominantly White (British to be specific). They were shipped from the UK to populate what we now know as Australia. They almost completely wiped out the people they met there. All the above happened just about 150-250 years ago.
The "time" has to be specified in your question. i.e What version of the Egypt are we asking about? 4000 BC Egypt? 2000 BC, 500 AD, a few hundred years ago? 2022? which? Because depending on the time you supply you will likely get a different answer.
If whites completely transformed Australia in 300 years, how many transformations do you think Egypt has gone through in 5000 years?
    Conclusion
While the Egyptians may have started off as Blacks, They are more than likely Arabs today due to two main reasons:
    1. Proximity to the Arab peninsula.
    2. The numerous Arab conquest of Africa over the centuries.

    • @eidolonish
      @eidolonish ปีที่แล้ว +1

Your comment is interesting but inaccurate. For example, even today the population of New Zealand that is Maori or indigenous is approx 17 per cent (hardly wiped out),. In Australis the indigenous peoples did indeed face brutal oppression and mistreatment but not the genocide you appear to be suggesting also your statement . Today they account for about 3,8 per cent of the population but this is in a country where the population has exploded in the last century. Your statement : "If whites completely transformed Australia in 300 years, how many transformations do you think Egypt has gone through in 5000 years" completely ignores the fact that societal change has increased exponentially over recent history with an obvious example being technological advancement, as well as population growth. It is entirely plausible to argue that Egypt (and the rest of the world) changed more in the last 100 years than it did in the previous 3000.

Humans evolved in Africa as black people and then later spread to the rest of the world. This is a fact with mountains of proof. The ancient Egyptians themselves looked to the interior of Africa as their ancestral home. Ancient Egyptian customs and language were African. Ancient Egyptians were simply a branch of black Nubians. Ancient Nubians and ancient Egyptians at an earlier point were one and the same. People from all over Africa migrated to the Nile Valley thousands of years ago, long before the ancient Egyptian civilization existed, and their combined cultures contributed to the creation of ancient Egypt.
Modern day Egyptians claim they are not Arabs, which is bull. They know that if they say they are Arabs, then they are relatively new to Egypt. They say they are not Africans, too, which is ridiculous. They don’t want to be associated with Africa because they think Africans are inferior. If your country is on the continent of Africa, then you are African, even if you are white.
White people and Arabs cannot face the fact that the first inhabitants of Egypt, as in the rest of African, were black people. The creators and inhabitants of ancient Egypt were black and remained that way for thousands of years. Whites and Arabs, mostly as invaders, arrived as a significant force thousands of years later, after Egypt had long established its greatness. Their civilization was so great and so profound, and contributed so much to the foundation of art, architecture, medicine, science and etc, that the non-black world refuses to accept ancient Egypt's true creators. For so many years black Africans have been said to have contributed little or nothing to civilization. But now, little by little, it is being shown that they actually were the first creators of it. Revenge is so sweet.

@@davids.8664 The pyramids might only be 4000 or 5000 years old, but the Egyptians had prehistory before there was any Egypt or great structures like the pyramids. Ancient Egypt didn't just pop up one day with pyramids. Its beginnings go back 10 or 12,000 years ago when people in the Nile valley were first hunter gathers, then started to settle permanently and become small villages with farms. Then, gradually, over thousands of years the magnificent ancient Egyptian civilization that we are familiar with developed. Time and experience made the country great. Math didn't happen by some genius who sat down and figured out subtraction and addition and eventually algebra and calculus, like the old timers try to make people believe happened in Europe. It was a slow, thousand and thousands of years process that started in Africa, where the oldest people lived. But just give me hard evidence, tell me what source, what roman or Greek historian or philosopher said that in what work of his.
Riddle me this: "The Twenty-fifth Dynasty of Egypt (notated Dynasty XXV, alternatively 25th Dynasty or Dynasty 25), also known as the Nubian Dynasty, the Kushite Empire, the Black Pharaohs, or the Napatans, after their capital Napata, was the last dynasty of the Third Intermediate Period of Egypt that occurred after the Nubian invasion"
If all Egyptians were black, why the hell do they record a specific and ONLY dynasty the kushite empire as being black?
I'm calling this new emerging false history blanazi and people who try to formulate a superior race theory through these lies or others as blanazis

@@depreciatingasset Dude they had relationships with the ancient black Egyptians thousands of years before the Greeks and later Roman's conquered Egypt
. You need to do your research, you're talking about a whole different time period. Both Greek and Roman historians described the ancient Egyptians as black people. Arabs came much later after the dynastic period of Egypt. The ancient Egyptians were conquered and long gone by then. The Arabs kicked out the Roman's who were in power at the time of the Arab conquests. Arabs had nothing to do with the Pyramids or ancient Egyptian culture. The Arabs are just occupiers taking credit for a civilization they didn't build or had no connection to.

@Gregory Wilson where did they say they were blacks ? That's the cornerstone.
I didn't say the Arabs had anything to do with ancient Egyptians except maybe try hard to destroy their legacy and memory. I was responding to the videos claim that modern "white/brown" Egyptians claim arab culture and not Egyptian cultures. I'm like wtf does this have to do with race? Bcz Somalis and Sudanese claim arab heritage, they're not white and they don't automatically change to white once arab heritage is claimed. The whole line of her logic is preposterous.
BUT ALSO there's evidence that the main egyptian culture wasn't black as the only time they were conquered by black nubian rulers, they documented clearly they were black pharaohs. They were brown levantine peoples similar to their neighbors, canaanites and the rest

I am an Egyptian and I don't agree with you. With a lot of respect to everyone and every race. All humans are equal of course. Neither Hatshepsut nor Nefertiti were black in race. The real Egyptian had their own race.
The real ancient Egyptians themselves weren't black like sub saharan african people and not white like Europeans. You can see from statues and temple drawings that the workers who worked in the sun all day had a bronze skin color and women who stayed inside painted in light color. It was a compination of different skin tones depending on their job in society.
They had soft features like small nose, mouth and skull also pale to moderate skin tone just like Mediterranean people as Egypt is a Mediterranean sea country located in the center between north of Africa and west of Asia.
The dark skin tone for some of the Egyptian people today came from the south and they were either invaders or from places Egypt Conquered all over the years. For example nubian people.
    And Cleopatra is totally Greek.
    Kemet is the name of
Egypt in the ancient language means the black soil because it was fertile land for agriculture as our civilization was built based on nile river and agriculture.
As a fact Egyptians spoke Egyptian language (dead language like latin) then Coptic language then Arabic (recently).
Language changes as the religious beliefs of the people changes from ancient Egyptian religious beliefs to Christianity to Islam.
And I understand black people had faced oppression all over their history but this doesn't justify oppressing other people.

There are plenty so-called Sub-Saharan tribes of black people that have soft features. They're in the Horn of Africa and Sudan and in various parts of West, South and East Africa. The problem is trying to define race in the old "'ain" or "oid" format with rigid and limited idea of feature sets. Negroid has been limited to broader features where that's not always the case at all. And the skin colors also vary in shade from sometimes camel to lighter and medium and dark brown to very dark brown that appears black which is a sizable amount of people in "Black Africa."
There is no Egyptian race as race is defined. The people in Egypt now may not have looked like the people in Egypt at the start of the century. But go further south and they may. I've seen many depictions of Egyptian women who were a darker brown color, just like the men. They're not always a light color. They's also depictions of Nubians and Egyptians being around the same complexion but the Nubians tended to be shown darker in some instances.
This isn't a claim to try to say that every Black person is related to those in Egypt. It's just giving credit to people who were described as Black by Europeans and then some racial elements in the USA and other areas of the West refused to acknowledge that possibility. That's the issue. And "Black" doesn't have to mean looks like people in other parts of Africa. They could have their own phenotype but one more similar to some of the slender Nilotic people or some of the Cushites.
I personally find there is a lot of information on Egypt but it's politicized and colorized which is unfortunate. I think the world would benefit to learn more about Empires and ancient civilizations from all of the African continent.

1, There was one late dynasty during the Egyptian weak late times that invaded from Sudan or Nubia and they were called black by the Egyptian record. And later that dynasty was overthrown.
If Egyptians were what we now call black, aka Sub-Saharan black, why would they call a specific dynasty as black.
2, I don't care for race but this is a narrative not scientific history. A black supremacist nationalist (like white nationalist) narrative. Why steal other people's history?
3, current Egyptians are part of the Arabs. But a minority of Arabs mixed with the natives. Sudan and Somalia identify as Arabs and they're black. Why didn't they change to white if they identify as Arabs 🤣🤣 by that logic?
4, The copts aka coptic church still use the evolved language of ancient Egypt with mixed Greek. They're an example of ancient Egyptians.
4, calling the land black usually refers to the fertile soil most likely and cud mean anything, it's not proof people refer to themselves as black when they wudv been very similar to other levantines. We call many lands black till now referring to the soil in the middle east. Does it mean we're calling ourselves black. Ridiculous! Not that it matters, there many great and lovely and friends who happen to be black, or Asian or whatever. But stealing history and spreading fake made up info is abhorrent.
5, we know Egyptians are darker tanned and with other transitory features like noses bcz they're in the middle and closer to equator. But we know from the aforementioned evidence they weren't what you're implying as official black.
Amazighs have smaller noses and other features transitioning to black. Do you call them black? No, they're not though they have few similar features.
6, Africa isn't synonymous with black. There were always parts of Africa that weren't black and that's North Africa. The natural geographic border isn't the Mediterranean but the Sahara. North Africa was always culturally and ethnically part of the Mediterranean culture, from Phoenicians Greeks Egyptians and romans. They were separated from black Africa by the wall of the Sahara. Sure they were darker than the romans and romans darker than Scandinavian but they weren't what you're calling as black
If you want to invent a nationalist supremacist narrative, go find it somewhere else. BLM fake statistics, history and narratives don't work outside small white female guilt of illiberal regressive leftist America.

Egypt was never black, it's not a problem to reconstruct facial features from the mummies, they can even do it from bare skulls. DNA has been taken from the mummies, that is also not a problem, and the results show that the ancient population had less sub-saharan DNA than the modern population. It's not a mystery what color their skin was either, there are so many paintings, as well as painted statues. Saying that they were white is also silly, and no serious person would ever say that. Framing the argument this way is a false dichotomy and probably done for the purposes of obfuscation. Middle Eastern is not white. I know there are some black people who cannot tell the difference between white and Middle Eastern (or at least act like we can't) but we can easily tell each other apart.

I mean you have people talking about the homo erectus and then the Homo sapien, surely the first homo sapiens started in the mist of Africa. And as time passes, the people migrated to other parts of the world. But as these people are migrating, you have tribes coming up with other ideas to make make their lives better. Whereas some of the people traveled back to their old home, came back and found that those in the old world are building monumental artifacts. The people who sees this,go back to the new land they discovered and start imitating what they seen the people they left behind did. Now you have new civilization being conjured. What dynasty are you talking about. The Old kingdom was NOT Mediterranean. After Alexander and the Roman invasion, Egypt became Mediterranean. Today it is Muslim Arab, prior it was Christian and European. Mali and Ghana were never invaded by outsiders, Egypt had been invaded many times over. The 26th Dynasty was clearly Nubian rule- as were others. The Hyksos ruled during the second intermediate period and were kicked out by Queen Ahmose Nefertari (google her image and mummy- queen of the 18th dynasty and starter of the new kingdom).
When you say as a general statement Egypt was Mediterranean- you clearly know not what you speak.

Most weren't white. But they weren't also black. Most Egyptians were brown-skinned Mediterreans. And "Kemet" - black land - is from soil, not skin colour of people. Remember that "race" is modern construct - people of ancient and medeival times didn't identify thesmelves as brown, black or white. So even if Egyptains would be black, they wouln't be calling themselves "blacks".

As one progresses southwards towards Sudan, the skin tone get darker. The same goes with modern Egyptians who those in the Nile Delta have lighter skin tone and those near the border with Sudan generally have darker skin tone.

Why makes video trying to prove what race indigenous people were just to end it with Egypt being racially diverse. Doesn’t that destroy what was explained before?
A Country can only be racially diverse when there is migration or occupation /colonization, which happened a lot in the north. The indigenous people can not be multiple races.
They can be multiple tribes from Africa. But a race develops by living in a completely different climate for thousands of years. Egypt is litteraly 1 hot country in Africa. Egypt was the same as Nubia which is black African.

You can also see this with Russia, native East Russians look like East Asians and native West Russians are White. It’s not that hard to understand.

First we need to find out the true meaning of Egypt, it language and who the people are. I can say ancient Egyptians are Nubians... pronounced as (ana ibo or ana igbo).. meaning (The land of mediators) who migrated to upper Egypt. (Egypt).. consonants..(g Y p t).. pronounced as... ago Ya, a pa atu .. meaning.. prays to God and advice from the Almighty GOD. The African origin of modern humans is presumed because of the presence of Mitochondrial Eve which is the main superhaplogroup L. The superhaplogroup L has major subclade: L0,L1,L2,L3,L4,L5 and L6 found in Sub-Saharan Africa..(Africa)..pronounced as (Ofe ri aka)..(frk)..meaning (the place of ancient time). They are ancients, called Igbos... meaning... Mediators. This Igbo people are ancient Chinese, ancient Egyptians pharaohs, kings of ancient Israel, ancient Greeks, phoneticians, Carthaginians, Ugaritians, Lemnians, Olmecs, Etruscans, Iberians. This people called... (Igbos or Ibo).. meaning (Mediators) they are called Igbo because of priesthood to mediate between God and mankind. Igbos wrote down everything you known today as civilizations. They builds the pyramids, invented the Electricity, computers, automobile, airplane, helicopter and submarine. They spoke the language of creation which is Igbo language.

As an Egyptian, Ancient egypt was Never black, egyptians are the people living in Egypt right now.
Further major waves of immigration came when the country was ruled by the Greeks and Romans, and then, again, after the Arab and Ottoman invasions in the 7th and 16th centuries.
However, the core of the farming population, particularly in southern Egypt and among communities that remained Christian the longest, seems to have been relatively unaffected by these incomers. Thus a significant proportion of the present population are indeed descended from the builders of the pyramids and temples of ancient Egypt.

This isn't history . This is propaganda for a narrative.
We have lots of lands we call black regions in the levant. It's because of the fertile black soil. Does it mean the people of the land were black?
This theory falls apart bcz great civilizations see themselves as the default , the center, hence it would be weird if they called themselves relative to others. They wudv seen themselves as default and referred to Greeks or Arians as pale or white like native Americans don't call themselves red, but call white people pale. Chinese people don't call themselves yellow, they call white people white or pale.
Plus plus plus all their surroundings were very similar. Most levantines are dark tan. Including Greeks and romans. Egyptians would have to be more pronounced spectrum of transition. North wud be dark tan and Nubia would be official black.
Thus the core Egyptians are dark skinned spectrum NOT Sub-Saharan black if you're looking for a black supremacist nationalist narrative. You'd have to search for wakanda elsewhere. It's not ancient Egypt. If it were, the Greeks wudv been clear, the canaanites and mesopotomians wudv been clear. For example, one dynasty was from Sudan and the record is clear they were black. Thus the others weren't.
We have too many contemporaneous sources. The ancient world (fertile crescent) peoples were all mixed and close with the Egyptians probably having a transition to darker skin as you head up the Nile towards modern Sudan, ancient nubia.
Plus they were probably not as racist as this narrative anyways. The romans incorporated black people if they were good citizens. Unlike this invented mythology.

    • @depreciatingasset
      @depreciatingasset ปีที่แล้ว
