As someone who's played Don't Starve, I never understood why so many people claim you need to Wiki to play Stardew. Everything you need to know is conveyed within the game by talking to characters and visiting the library, and a lot of people miss out on actually interacting with the world in favour of efficiency.
@@vivianloney I feel you. There's something to be said for doing the research, constructing a plan, and executing it that can be super satisfying. That's how I feel about strategy games like Civilization lol
I can’t play every day/week and have to take weeks off from playing due to lack of free time - then i forget a lot of the hints and having the wiki is so helpful for me to pick up where I left off 🙈

I haven't seen this mentioned, so just wanted to comment: You aren't doing anything wrong with the trains that came through. Sometimes you get presents that literally fall off the train, but other times you get unlucky and nothing happens. I'm so impressed with the progress you made in one year!!! It took me at least 3 in-game years to get to the island, and that was with infrequent use of the wiki. Really well-done video as well!!

It was so refreshing seeing someone play without the wiki! I'd LOVE to see a part 2 of trying to figure out Ginger Island! Would also be cool to see you marry someone lol. You can use the quarry for holding machines like kegs. Make sure you put pathing down, though, as rocks will still spawn around things. Look for odd markings in the sand on the Island & hoe them. Also shake or cut down trees on the Island for some occasional surprises.
@@JackDuckGoose I haven't even scratched the surface of Ginger Island! I seem to get bored of the playthrough around that time with each farm & start a new one. When 1.6 drops I'm gonna try for perfection.
Hmmm... tips that could help... without giving it away. The glowstone ring is the equivalent of the bigger magnet and glow rings. It uses less expensive resources than the iridium band does, but doesn't have the combat bonus. In the lava dungeon, you might find the hot java ring. While wearing this, a kill may net you a cup of coffee or triple shot espresso. So, free coffee for kills! Purchase the triple shot espresso recipe from Gus at the saloon. He's the only one you can get it from. It takes 3 coffees and makes them into 1 espresso. The coffee effect lasts longer with a triple shot. During the last week of the month is when tea tree saplings/plants have leaves available to harvest every day. Go every day to Caroline's sunroom to nab a free one. They can be pickled like vegetables, or make green tea, beloved by the mayor and Caroline as a gift. Any rings or weapons you're not using anymore can be sold to the adventurer's guild for a little profit. Coffee is a Spring/Summer crop, so you can grow it outside during these two seasons. It takes 5 beans of the same quality to make in the keg (the same quality thing is a pain in the butt.) Pumpkins make you more as juice or pickled in a preserves jar, rather than sold as produce. Keep upgrading your tools, especially the pickaxe and watering can. Go read the graves in town. One of them was previously unreadable, because it was in dwarvish. But, you can read/speak that now. Visit the desert trader. He takes a lot of gems in exchange for stuff you want. Diamonds for triple shots and Rubies for Spicy Eels are available every day. There's also rotating stock that changes with the day of the week... Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays are the most popular. Hope these all help! And congrats on a wiki free run.
Quick tip: best levels in the mines to refresh are 20, 40 and 80 for the ores. The further down you go, the more chance of finding gems and other rare stuff... Also, easiest way to get a ancient seed is by killing bugs from 0-40 , just check odd number levels and kill them, ez
Always love these 100 Days vids! I tend to go back to certain Harvest Moon games more often than Stardew out of nostalgia, but Stardew really is a fantastic time.
Ah what a great video and listening to Stardew Valley soundtrack again is so relaxing. And the dilemma of configuring your farm layout... when you think the layout is perfect.. the next day you find it a little bit off lul. i don't have suggestion but i remember you can let your farm animal go outside and they will eat the grass, so you don't have to use hay all season (except Winter cuz no grass). Anyway can't wait fer Part 2 and see dat perfect/beautiful farm layout

I am so bappy you jumped onto Stardew!! Honestly, this game helped bring some of my friends into Story of Seasons! It is such a fun game and your experiences were so similar to mine in a lot of ways! I am SO looking forward to part two!

Couple of suggestions. If you see seafoam pudding at the traveling cart for 800g again, I would purchase it. It costs way more at the moonlight jellies festival. Also, you can open your barn and coop doors (the doors to the right of where you enter those buildings) to let the animals out if you want. If you put grass starters out for them, they will eat those instead of hay. Overall, very good effort. I was worried for a second when you went with remixed bundles lol 🎉

@@JackDuckGoose a few of the remixed bundles are harder than the regular CC, but it is a nice way to mix-up the gameplay! for example, one of the remixed fishing bundles requires you to catch any two of these: lava eel, scorpion carp, octopus, or blobfish. those are somewhat difficult in year one unless you are a very good fisherman.

@@JackDuckGoose The pantry bundle of the standard bundles requires a red cabbage (sold in year 2). You could only complete it in your first year if you select the option to make the community center completable in one year (you can purchase one from the traveling merchant).
@chibigirl8545 Not only if you check that. The check box just means it is guaranteed that the travelling cart will sell either red cabbage seeds or a red cabbage sometime during year one. If you don't check it, there's still a good chance she'll bring them. It's just not guaranteed. They can also be found in the Skull Cavern, but that chance is insanely low so unless you're insane, or BlaDe, you don't plan your strategy around it.
Absolutely incredible how much you know for your *semi* first play through of this game. I probably went through about seven save files on this game before I knew this much lol. Incredible video as always, looking forward to the next one!!!
To be fair, I always watched a lot of SDV content. I could just never get into playing it. I will say, I'm about at my limit of knowing how to do stuff. I dont know anything about the island or how to get any special items lol
Love your 100 days videos, I look forward to seeing a possible part 2 to this one! A couple helpful hints, use your watering can to help you travel across the lava pools in the volcano mine, golden walnuts are hidden around the island and if you collect 100 it unlocks a special area on the island!
this was so cool to watch! as someone who watched way too many stardew content creators and googled everything when i got stuck in the game, i completely missed out on the integral part of discovering everything yourself. i really look forward to watching part 2 and also seeing what you'll do with the 1.6 update! instant sub :D

Maybe it's just me, but I always get nostalgic for games I've "mastered." Like, I wish I could remove all my memories of playing Skyrim, and play it again. That's kinda how I feel about Stardew, so I threw in the whole "no wiki" idea to try and channel that experience lol

I honestly forgot about those walnuts..... Am currently finishing the missing bundle once I get the cellar plus it will take days to get the hardwood for boat repair...... Whoops. I have never once dealt with 'Friendship Decay' So I am **CONVINCED** that it's NOT a real thing, and that it's just some really REALLLY long-running joke that Concerned Ape and everyone who makes these kinds of videos, and the Wiki talks about... KINDA like Herobrine in Minecraft. (There's my 'precedent' argument.) And I have over a thousand hours in SDV BEFORE ever touching mods. (I have recently started using mods, but my first thousand hours I didn't use mods at all, I just like the game for what it is. It's very zen to me.)
If it is a joke, I'm not in on it lol. My understanding of friendship decay is that ConcernedApe himself said on twitter that not talking to a villager every day will result in a slow decay, but only if that villager isn't at 10 hearts. It could be a long con, who knows lol Most of the mods I used were for convenience and aesthetics. Mods like the "Tractor" or "Chest's Anywhere" that introduce new mechanics or tools interrupt the zen experience you referenced, and I don't think that would "enhance" my enjoyment of the game.
@@JackDuckGoose Oh no no, I wasn't trying to call out your mod choices ^^ (Personally I add mods that enrich the story, aka Expanded, oooor... turn the game a BIT less family friendly... still zen though :V ) But... the Friendship Decay thing... like... UNLESS it's really REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY slow... then I don't believe it exists... because some times I'll go a week or two without gifting a villager... and the Hearts won't change.... Like for example... I'll get Caroline up to 2 Hearts... JUST to get her Tea Sapling recipe... annnnd then I won't interact with her much for most of the year... and she'll still be at 2 Hearts. So maybe Pelican Town just REALLLLY likes me XP

For me at this point, I feel like I kinda optimized the fun out of the game. When I saw you just randomly standing around and fishing, or planting loads of different crops, I got a little sentimental, because that's something I'd never do, as it's just so """inefficient""". I don't know when I started to optimize my gameplay so bad but I kinda miss just casually messing about and doing random bits, not worrying about the lost time, because really, what meaning does time have in this game anyway? I really have to give that a shot again, once 1.6 comes out. Also, I much liked watching this video. Your commentary is very calming, with the occasional joke sprinkled in, I love it. Also I've picked up from the comments the whole AI Portrait debacle and I salute you for acting so quickly, taking down the video and fixing the issue. That's a level of responsibility that not many content creators can claim for themselves.
Your sentiment definitely played into my thought process when I was brainstorming for this video. A lot of the Stardew "100 Days" videos that I looked at really value efficiency, which makes them interesting just to see how much the player can pull off in so little time. I guess I wanted my first honest-to-goodness, in-depth experience with Stardew to mimic how I played video games as a kid; just doing whatever and finding my way. Thanks so much for your kind words, as well. I really try my best to create stuff that people can enjoy and comments like yours always remind me of that for whenever I start a new project.
This is so strange. I love Stardew Valley but played it close to launch. So in some ways im like "look at this new player going in blind" and the. Stuff like the ocean floor or island are new to me and im like "what the heck?!"
I'll say this, my narration does make it seem like I've done it before, but the night market and island are my first ever experience in these areas lol
I'll definitely keep that in mind. My first thought is something mining related so Crystallariums/Space for Smelting stuff might make thematic sense lol

I’ve been playing stardew since it came out, and honestly you got farther than i ever would have expected. my advice for ginger island is to look on the ground for patterns with blank spots between them - like flowers or shells - and see if theres anything under the dirt. :)
Tips: Luck does not affect geodes. The sequence in which you open them do, though. Try scything your grass or wheat now that you've build a silo. Legendary fish need as deep water as possible. Except the angler, which is a downright weirdo.

As an OG Harvest Moon enjoyer, it took me a hot minute to get "used to" Stardew Valley, but to be fair, I tried it in freaking 1.2 originally lol. My first save that actually stuck and got me addicted was started in 1.3 Been playing very often ever since, and I even make mods for it now. I have so many HM and Stardew saves that way back in the day I had a like, Family Tree, where I played all the handheld Harvest Moons as the child from the save before, and right now I'm playing Stardew Valley as my original Harvest Moon Animal Parade son. It's fun y'all should try it.
I kinda did that idea with my stream version of AWL. Played as the son from my 100% of the original! It was weird when I got the muffy cutscenes tho lol. Thanks so much for watching! I played SDV when it first came out and got 30-40 hours in, but I'm super excited to keep playing this save in 1.6!

I'm with you. For me, it's all about FOMO. A big reason why I try to 100% games and use the Wiki is that I want to see everything, and I only have so much time to play games nowadays lol

When you got the wizards ink, how did you get back to him? Did you walk all the way to him? If so, there’s an even faster way to get to him from the witch’s hut
for fish, if they have real life counterparts, you can try looking up their seasonal behavioral patterns to see if you can figure out when you can catch them. not technically using the wiki!
How many hours do you have? In hindsight, I definitely made some beginner mistakes, so I'm curious what a experienced player's version of this would look like lol
(edit: turns out you didn't have a marriage poll this time so I'm excited to see who you pick!) I also restarted AWL dozens of times, I have hundreds of hours in the remake and never made it fully to chapter 5 lol The first year is just so good! I always say "I'm going to take it easy this time" and then have fully maxed relationships by winter. And then after a few seasons of not needing to gift anyone I miss them and restart the game again...

I just dont get in these play throughs how you guys have so much energy especially in the first few days. I usually have about 20% energy left after watering everything. Any tips for this?
The first season was pretty rough. Honestly, I made so many field snacks using the seeds from the trees I would chop down. I'd also inhale pretty much any foragable I could get my hands on after completing the seasons bundle. That combined with the fruits from the bat cave, cave carrots I'd find while mining, and buying the occasional salad is how I kept my energy up in the early seasons.
@@JackDuckGoose thanks for the answer. I also found it really hard to accumulate any notable money. I think it took me a couple of days to get to 1k to buy anything of value. Dont get me wrong I love this game super much. A real gem!
@@paulborek9163 Yeah its great! My only advice on early money making is doing nothing but fishing for catfish on rainy days, and grow as many potatoes as you can before the egg festival and investing in strawberrys.

Almost all of those 150 hours I played in Stardew before I started this series was actually before the 1.1 update. That's before ConcernedApe added Ginger Island, different farm types, Obelisks, and whole bunch of content that has been added since later 2016. You can imagine how much the game has changed in almost 8 years lol
My first farm, which is also my almost perfection farm, I played about 3 years in game before I opened the wiki as the fish in different seasons THREW me for a hot minute 😂 I was always missing a fish for each of the fish tank bundles and soft locked myself until the next year when I could catch it again. The fishing mini game for a newbie made me not wanna fish for awhile 😂 but I got there and now have all of the fish caught after 12 years in game lmao!!!! 🤣
I’m starting to realize that even with the hours I spend on the stardew wiki, the ADHD overcomes me and I always end up finishing it by the end of year 2 because I always have no money😓

it would have been interesting to add the visible fish mod to this, to see what fish are available easier. I have played lots of Stardew and still have to google what fish are available when, this mod helps a TON.
There are a lot of mods I considered adding when brainstorming this video, visible fish being one of them. While it would definitely be useful, I only wanted to put in mods that wouldn't be "too good" if that makes sense. I felt that mods like visible fish and lookup anything couldn't be used and still consider this a "blind-ish" playthrough lol. Thanks for watching!
For whatever reason, any portrait Mod I've found and like 99% of it, has Maru with a lighter skin tone. The portrait pack I used for part 2 is much closer to her original skin tone.

Great question, the answer is long so bear with me. While recording the gameplay for this video, I used a portrait mod that I just "liked the look of." When I uploaded this video originally, some awesome commenters let me know that the portraits I had utilized AI leveraged on other artists' work. So, I took down the video and re-edited a version that overlayed new portraits created by an actual person. I found some portraits made by a person that some people in my discord also liked, and used it to re edit this video. I'm more than comfortable admitting that the artist for this portrait mod I'm using did lighten up the skin tone of Maru. Ideally, her skin tone would be CMYK #e27f67, not CMYK #e59588. If you have a suggestion for a different portrait for Maru, I'm happy to take a look!
@@JackDuckGoosenot really anime, but if you changed the portraits to feel more similar to harvest moon theres mods for that and theyre super cute. nyapu or dong's are the first that come to mind. i only ever use vanilla facelift for portraits tho, make the sprites too pretty or too cute and it looks like they dont belong lol

This is exactly why I wanted to play without the using the Wiki. Being able to discover everything personally makes the experience 10x better
I personally enjoy playing casual games with lots of strategic planning and ambitious goals. It's just more enjoyable, couldn't tell you why.

It was so refreshing seeing someone play without the wiki! I'd LOVE to see a part 2 of trying to figure out Ginger Island! Would also be cool to see you marry someone lol. You can use the quarry for holding machines like kegs. Make sure you put pathing down, though, as rocks will still spawn around things. Look for odd markings in the sand on the Island & hoe them. Also shake or cut down trees on the Island for some occasional surprises.

Hmmm... tips that could help... without giving it away.
The glowstone ring is the equivalent of the bigger magnet and glow rings. It uses less expensive resources than the iridium band does, but doesn't have the combat bonus.
In the lava dungeon, you might find the hot java ring. While wearing this, a kill may net you a cup of coffee or triple shot espresso. So, free coffee for kills!
Purchase the triple shot espresso recipe from Gus at the saloon. He's the only one you can get it from. It takes 3 coffees and makes them into 1 espresso. The coffee effect lasts longer with a triple shot.
During the last week of the month is when tea tree saplings/plants have leaves available to harvest every day. Go every day to Caroline's sunroom to nab a free one. They can be pickled like vegetables, or make green tea, beloved by the mayor and Caroline as a gift.
Any rings or weapons you're not using anymore can be sold to the adventurer's guild for a little profit.
Coffee is a Spring/Summer crop, so you can grow it outside during these two seasons. It takes 5 beans of the same quality to make in the keg (the same quality thing is a pain in the butt.)
Pumpkins make you more as juice or pickled in a preserves jar, rather than sold as produce.
Keep upgrading your tools, especially the pickaxe and watering can.
Go read the graves in town. One of them was previously unreadable, because it was in dwarvish. But, you can read/speak that now.
Visit the desert trader. He takes a lot of gems in exchange for stuff you want. Diamonds for triple shots and Rubies for Spicy Eels are available every day. There's also rotating stock that changes with the day of the week... Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays are the most popular.

Quick tip: best levels in the mines to refresh are 20, 40 and 80 for the ores. The further down you go, the more chance of finding gems and other rare stuff...

And the dilemma of configuring your farm layout... when you think the layout is perfect.. the next day you find it a little bit off lul. i don't have suggestion but i remember you can let your farm animal go outside and they will eat the grass, so you don't have to use hay all season (except Winter cuz no grass). Anyway can't wait fer Part 2 and see dat perfect/beautiful farm layout

Couple of suggestions. If you see seafoam pudding at the traveling cart for 800g again, I would purchase it. It costs way more at the moonlight jellies festival. Also, you can open your barn and coop doors (the doors to the right of where you enter those buildings) to let the animals out if you want. If you put grass starters out for them, they will eat those instead of hay. Overall, very good effort. I was worried for a second when you went with remixed bundles lol 🎉

@@JackDuckGoose a few of the remixed bundles are harder than the regular CC, but it is a nice way to mix-up the gameplay! for example, one of the remixed fishing bundles requires you to catch any two of these: lava eel, scorpion carp, octopus, or blobfish. those are somewhat difficult in year one unless you are a very good fisherman.

@@JackDuckGoose The pantry bundle of the standard bundles requires a red cabbage (sold in year 2). You could only complete it in your first year if you select the option to make the community center completable in one year (you can purchase one from the traveling merchant).

Not only if you check that. The check box just means it is guaranteed that the travelling cart will sell either red cabbage seeds or a red cabbage sometime during year one. If you don't check it, there's still a good chance she'll bring them. It's just not guaranteed. They can also be found in the Skull Cavern, but that chance is insanely low so unless you're insane, or BlaDe, you don't plan your strategy around it.

Maybe it's just me, but I always get nostalgic for games I've "mastered." Like, I wish I could remove all my memories of playing Skyrim, and play it again. That's kinda how I feel about Stardew, so I threw in the whole "no wiki" idea to try and channel that experience lol

So I am **CONVINCED** that it's NOT a real thing, and that it's just some really REALLLY long-running joke that Concerned Ape and everyone who makes these kinds of videos, and the Wiki talks about...
KINDA like Herobrine in Minecraft. (There's my 'precedent' argument.)
And I have over a thousand hours in SDV BEFORE ever touching mods. (I have recently started using mods, but my first thousand hours I didn't use mods at all, I just like the game for what it is. It's very zen to me.)
If it is a joke, I'm not in on it lol. My understanding of friendship decay is that ConcernedApe himself said on twitter that not talking to a villager every day will result in a slow decay, but only if that villager isn't at 10 hearts. It could be a long con, who knows lol
Most of the mods I used were for convenience and aesthetics. Mods like the "Tractor" or "Chest's Anywhere" that introduce new mechanics or tools interrupt the zen experience you referenced, and I don't think that would "enhance" my enjoyment of the game.

Like for example... I'll get Caroline up to 2 Hearts... JUST to get her Tea Sapling recipe... annnnd then I won't interact with her much for most of the year... and she'll still be at 2 Hearts.

For me at this point, I feel like I kinda optimized the fun out of the game. When I saw you just randomly standing around and fishing, or planting loads of different crops, I got a little sentimental, because that's something I'd never do, as it's just so """inefficient""". I don't know when I started to optimize my gameplay so bad but I kinda miss just casually messing about and doing random bits, not worrying about the lost time, because really, what meaning does time have in this game anyway? I really have to give that a shot again, once 1.6 comes out.
Also, I much liked watching this video. Your commentary is very calming, with the occasional joke sprinkled in, I love it. Also I've picked up from the comments the whole AI Portrait debacle and I salute you for acting so quickly, taking down the video and fixing the issue. That's a level of responsibility that not many content creators can claim for themselves.
Your sentiment definitely played into my thought process when I was brainstorming for this video. A lot of the Stardew "100 Days" videos that I looked at really value efficiency, which makes them interesting just to see how much the player can pull off in so little time. I guess I wanted my first honest-to-goodness, in-depth experience with Stardew to mimic how I played video games as a kid; just doing whatever and finding my way.

This is so strange. I love Stardew Valley but played it close to launch. So in some ways im like "look at this new player going in blind" and the. Stuff like the ocean floor or island are new to me and im like "what the heck?!"
I'll say this, my narration does make it seem like I've done it before, but the night market and island are my first ever experience in these areas lol
I use the Quarry for kegs, but I know a lot of people put the Crystallariums there.
I'll definitely keep that in mind. My first thought is something mining related so Crystallariums/Space for Smelting stuff might make thematic sense lol

I’ve been playing stardew since it came out, and honestly you got farther than i ever would have expected. my advice for ginger island is to look on the ground for patterns with blank spots between them - like flowers or shells - and see if theres anything under the dirt. :)

As an OG Harvest Moon enjoyer, it took me a hot minute to get "used to" Stardew Valley, but to be fair, I tried it in freaking 1.2 originally lol. My first save that actually stuck and got me addicted was started in 1.3

I have so many HM and Stardew saves that way back in the day I had a like, Family Tree, where I played all the handheld Harvest Moons as the child from the save before, and right now I'm playing Stardew Valley as my original Harvest Moon Animal Parade son. It's fun y'all should try it.
I kinda did that idea with my stream version of AWL. Played as the son from my 100% of the original! It was weird when I got the muffy cutscenes tho lol.

I just dont get in these play throughs how you guys have so much energy especially in the first few days. I usually have about 20% energy left after watering everything. Any tips for this?
The first season was pretty rough. Honestly, I made so many field snacks using the seeds from the trees I would chop down. I'd also inhale pretty much any foragable I could get my hands on after completing the seasons bundle. That combined with the fruits from the bat cave, cave carrots I'd find while mining, and buying the occasional salad is how I kept my energy up in the early seasons.
@@JackDuckGoose thanks for the answer. I also found it really hard to accumulate any notable money. I think it took me a couple of days to get to 1k to buy anything of value. Dont get me wrong I love this game super much. A real gem!
@@paulborek9163 Yeah its great! My only advice on early money making is doing nothing but fishing for catfish on rainy days, and grow as many potatoes as you can before the egg festival and investing in strawberrys.

That's before ConcernedApe added Ginger Island, different farm types, Obelisks, and whole bunch of content that has been added since later 2016. My first farm, which is also my almost perfection farm, I played about 3 years in game before I opened the wiki as the fish in different seasons THREW me for a hot minute 😂 I was always missing a fish for each of the fish tank bundles and soft locked myself until the next year when I could catch it again. The fishing mini game for a newbie made me not wanna fish for awhile 😂 but I got there and now have all of the fish caught after 12 years in game lmao!!!! 🤣

it would have been interesting to add the visible fish mod to this, to see what fish are available easier. I have played lots of Stardew and still have to google what fish are available when, this mod helps a TON.
There are a lot of mods I considered adding when brainstorming this video, visible fish being one of them. While it would definitely be useful, I only wanted to put in mods that wouldn't be "too good" if that makes sense. I felt that mods like visible fish and lookup anything couldn't be used and still consider this a "blind-ish" playthrough lol. Thanks for watching!

what’s with the Maru whitewashing mod that was such a jumpscare
For whatever reason, any portrait Mod I've found and like 99% of it, has Maru with a lighter skin tone. The portrait pack I used for part 2 is much closer to her original skin tone.

Great question, the answer is long so bear with me. While recording the gameplay for this video, I used a portrait mod that I just "liked the look of." When I uploaded this video originally, some awesome commenters let me know that the portraits I had utilized AI leveraged on other artists' work. So, I took down the video and re-edited a version that overlayed new portraits created by an actual person. I found some portraits made by a person that some people in my discord also liked, and used it to re edit this video.
I'm more than comfortable admitting that the artist for this portrait mod I'm using did lighten up the skin tone of Maru. Ideally, her skin tone would be CMYK #e27f67, not CMYK #e59588. If you have a suggestion for a different portrait for Maru, I'm happy to take a look!
@@JackDuckGoosenot really anime, but if you changed the portraits to feel more similar to harvest moon theres mods for that and theyre super cute. nyapu or dong's are the first that come to mind.
i only ever use vanilla facelift for portraits tho, make the sprites too pretty or too cute and it looks like they dont belong lol
