@PianoPlayer1355 - Also, don't forget that 1939 is considered the best year that American cinema had in its entire history. Several dozen classics hit the theaters that year in the golden age of American film.
I was 12 years old living on Long Island in the 1950s, my parents dropped my brother and I off to the movie theater as they did every Sunday so they could "take a nap." :) Saw Vivien Leigh's name on the marquee, "who's that?: In those days, the screen was really small. As soon as the movie started, and I heard the music, I was transfixed. When I left the theater, I was Scarlet. And then I read GWTW over and over. Mom made me a hoop skirt that I wore with pride! Janice
there's a reason why i chose this song for my debutaunte ball...this piece is magnificent. not only is the song amazing, but the movie is a classic...PLEASE watch it!
In my opinion, the most beautiful piece of music ever written for a film!!!! Majestic, elegant and perfectly suited for a film with the same attributes....
I hope they never even consider remaking such an epic ; a film with so much beauty and classical, iconic imagery should never be foretold , ever again.
I couldn't have said it better! I absolutely love the music .....my all time favorite movie and music. I have the original album. My mother and father attended the grand premier of "Gone With The Wind", in Atlanta , Ga, they got to see the cast. It's unique that my mother looked just like Scarlet O'hara, in her younger days . She was a beautiful woman.
I swear every time I listen to this I get goosebumps. At first I thought I was just cold, but when it happens every single time over the past dozen years or so since I've heard this theme then it HAS to be the music. Brilliant!
This book and film is the reason why my own novels always have to have a 'happy ever after' to them. I couldn't sleep the first time I saw Gone with the wind, as I wanted Rhet to stay with Scarlett, it tormented me, even though I knew it was only a film.
I will never forget seeing this for the first time when I was a little girl, I wanted to be Scarlett so bad but I would tell my Rhett that I loved no one but him before it was too late.
Margaret Mitchell wrote one book in her life...took her 10 years to write it...based on stories told to her by her grandmother about life during / around the Civil War. The result was Gone With the Wind. Masterpiece. Incomparable. Nothing really close to it in over 70 years.
This has been my girl's and mine's signature theme- me on the piano and she singing it so divinely ! Thanks for uploading it. Really appreciate it. Clicked "like" for 363 points.
Thanks for sharing this 'Legendary Epic Movie', of a time not so long ago! Once there was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South. Here in this pretty world, Gallantry took its last bow. Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave. Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered, a Civilization gone with the wind... Perfect characters for a movie that is still much loved by many today.....
Saw it for the very first time in 1974 on a 35th anniversary re-release of the movie. The theater was packed with people and it was a great experience finally seeing a movie I had heard about so much.
You're in for a good time. Gone with the Wind is an excellent movie. I saw it with my grandmother for the first time when I was a teenager. You'll want to watch it again and again. I wasn't bothered by the length; I was sad to see it end.
Same here! I watched the movie in its entirety last night for the first time, and when it was over I was majorly bummed! I had no idea it had been nearly 4 hours.
One of the best Oscar films ever made. I love this film a lot. Clark Gable's best performance of his career. The soundtrack is very powerful before Titanic came out in 1997. GREAT UPLOAD!
@gwtwcarlos Gracias Carlos- for writing back. Isn't it wonderful to have the net and utube to keep these classics alive. As I'm playing the music right now, it's 8:30 AM, minus 15 degress C outside and we have LOTS of snow- having just gotten over a three day blizzard here in Canada- its dark almost 15 hours a day now and the nights are still getting longer- a perfect time to sit by the fireplace, with a cup of tea, and listen to classics like Tara's theme-Thanks to you Amigo. Warm there?
I love this movie, I think it is the best love story of all time and being from the south and being a southern belle it has a special meaning to me that being a Southerner is truly a gift.
so beautifull and so romantic this music, I close my eyes and enjoy this. I have named my chinchilla Tara and she is now 21 years old (born 31-01-1989)
Amen. Definately one of the best. The acting, setting, costumes, story, characters, drama, everything was perfect. And I don't say that about many films.
My favorite movie of all time. Such impeccable acting on everyone's part, especially, Vivienne Leigh, Clark Gable and Hattie McDaniel. The Theme has forever transcended time.
This theme ranks among the most hauntingly beautiful and memorable themes ever composed and performed for cinema. Time stands still in awe of its majesty.
I don't understand how a song can be so sad and epic all at once. Kind of like the movie! I will forever love this movie and the book is just wonderful too.
this is just so... beautiful hollywood needs to make a movie like this again. i mean everythings today is just about the profit, not the art. That's why a lot of movies and musics suck today...
The score for Gone With the Wind, by Max Steiner (1888 - 1971), is one of the greatest and best-known of all film music and is the highest and most immediate representation of music of Hollywood's pre-World War II Golden Age.
I'm sure it has more tricks of orchestration in it than I will ever learn, even though I play 2 instruments and am working on No. 3 as a new extension of knowledge transfer. Rimsky-Korsakov wrote a book on orchestration that is still in print. After that I am not sure. All those European refugees that made Hollywood the land of fantasy that had European conductors writing the same sort of orchestral music they were performing in Europe. So many great ones then giving us symphonies along with the movies. The movie and Tara's Theme will live forever artistically. I personally love Leslie Howard even though he thought he was too old for the part. All of them were fabulous on screen.
"As long as Bonnie was alive we had a chance, but now..." "I'll think of some way to bring him back" I am so in love with this movie! I wish the times didn't change people would still have that passion for love! Why do times change??? This movie will forever be imprinted in my soul. True love does exist!! I wish the actors could of made one more movie to satisfy the end of the first
GWTW - - The only book Margaret Mitchell ever wrote..took her 10 years to write it...essentially a bunch of stories told to her by her grandmother who lived during that time.... a best selling book...a masterpiece of a movie. IMO, still the best.
I know what you talking about ...My emothions run rampart whenever I hear this song, I think it's beautiful, the record also has a song called "Scarlett", that is also awesome. They should remake that on a new CD, so many "Gone With The Wind", fans. I have always thought of myself as a Southern Belle, being from the South. Scarlett and I have a lot in common.......
@TheFuamus im 23 and i love old movies that is mostly what i have dvd and now blu ray i have this movie on blu ray tcm if i would of never been lazy one day to change the channel i wouldnt be introduced to classic movies like this its sad that most people from your generation and younger dont like these movies
When I finally got to see GWTW in a theater for the first time, all I could say as I left the theater was --- WOW! WHAT A FLICK! Little that I know that a few years later I met and married a girl who had lived part of her life in Atlanta. Sometimes I even call her "Scarlet" as in "Look here, Scarlet."
@gwtwcarlos yes interesting- and I understand it was a last minute thing. Also interesting that Mr. Steiner wrote the music for King Kong 7 years earlier. But certainly this score enhances the movie incredibly so- in all comes together- Gable, Leigh, DeHaviland, Mitchell, Howard...the story, the war, the romance, the cinematography, casting, - it still blows me away- and made over 70 years ago! Nothing like it or as good since. Nor any stars like those of the 30's and 40's- -Bill
still got the chill every time I hear this song....love this movie, love this song, .... loved the book written by Margaret Mitchell, loved the sequel too by Alexandra Ripley....hate the movie sequel though....
This was used as the theme song for NYC TV's WOR channel 9 afternoon "Million Dollar Movie" during the late 50's through the 60's (back when a million dollars meant something).
@ragingbearbull She was playing herself in this movie, and she had an illness - just as the character seems to have. That is what makes the performance so poignant and perfectly matched.
for me "Gone With The Wind" is the BEST movie of all time -- and it is impossible to make a better remake
@PianoPlayer1355 - Also, don't forget that 1939 is considered the best year that American cinema had in its entire history. Several dozen classics hit the theaters that year in the golden age of American film.
It's unforgettable & endless music that man has ever made.
i borrowed this movie's video 5 yrs ago, it was then i 've learned that this story is something never-to-be-forgotten ....
I was 12 years old living on Long Island in the 1950s, my parents dropped my brother and I off to the movie theater as they did every Sunday so they could "take a nap." :) Saw Vivien Leigh's name on the marquee, "who's that?: In those days, the screen was really small. That’s very nice!
I very much enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing!
and this movie.ONE OF BEST MOVIES EVER .bow down
there's a reason why i chose this song for my debutaunte ball...this piece is magnificent. not only is the song amazing, but the movie is a classic...PLEASE watch it!
für mich ist "vom Winde verweht" der BESTE Film, der jemals gedreht wurde!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, the most beautiful piece of music ever written for a film!!!! Majestic, elegant and perfectly suited for a film with the same attributes....

It's the most wounderfull piece of music for a motion picture ever. This theme is one of the reasons that made a GWTW the superfavorite picture ever.
Margaret Mitchell wrote one book in her life...took her 10 years to write it...based on stories told to her by her grandmother about life during / around the Civil War. The result was Gone With the Wind. Masterpiece. Incomparable. Nothing really close to it in over 70 years.
I think is the best movie ever made, and nobody will dare to re-make it.

Beautiful music for a beautiful movie. Over 70 years later, it is still magnificent.
My all-time favorite soundtrack from my favorite movie. Thank you for posting.
This song always makes me cry . . . it reminds me of a love is gone, but the love has not yet died.
when music was made for the Soul!
I'm glad you liked it. It's probably number 8 on my top 20 favorite movies list too.
The ending always makes me cry...........but in a way I cannot imagine a better ending than this ........
One of the best Oscar films ever made. I love this film a lot. Clark Gable's best performance of his career. The soundtrack is very powerful before Titanic came out in 1997. GREAT UPLOAD!

love love love it, watch it many time and still have the power to take me to that era.
I love this movie, I think it is the best love story of all time and being from the south and being a southern belle it has a special meaning to me that being a Southerner is truly a gift.
one of the best scores in cinema. The movie is spellbinding, but the music itself is enough to move me to tears. This theme in particular.
Best movie of all time. :) I just started reading the book and I'm already in love with it. Nothing will ever touch GWTW. :)
so beautifull and so romantic this music, I close my eyes and enjoy this. I have named my chinchilla Tara and she is now 21 years old (born 31-01-1989)

Absolutely love this composition and the movie.
TCM showed this last night, and you best believe I stayed up and watched it. I'd be crazy not to!

For years, I just thought this was just the theme for Million Dollar Movie, which aired on WOR Channel 9 in New York. Then I finally saw the film.
Melodia romântica e dramática que ficou na memória de muita gente...
-Professor Girafales!
-Dona Florinda!
é o q me vem na cabeça qndo escuto esse música.
Yes you are right, it is also on American Classics re-issue album. I was confused with the Hollywood Sound, which doesn;t have Tara's Theme.
I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but this is the greatest movie ever made.
one of if not the greatest movie themes ever!!!!!
What a great dramatic intro during the first eight seconds.
i love anything gone with the wind so much
im going to tell our orchestra teacher that if we dont play this ill drop out!
Classic forever. I love it.
When I finally got to see GWTW in a theater for the first time, all I could say as I left the theater was --- WOW! WHAT A FLICK! yeah it is!! i m in luv w/ the book and especially scarlett.
I'm only 16 years old, but this music moves me deeply that I prefer it over any pop music that is played on the radio so frequently.
Colonna sonora splendida!!!❤❤❤
The most wonderful couple in the whole movie history.
This theme seems so cinematic it's beautiful.

In the same country as I! How cool! Did you know she played in North & South (a miniseries with Patrick Swayze that takes plays during the Civil War)?
Pasaron tantos años y me sigue encantando esta musica!
Immortale. Grazie.
oh i love this film
I get chills when the violins first kick in...
