Inspired by this video, I just did this with Watcher today. Boss swapped for Philo stone. I think having 4 energy is pretty crucial. Took your advice and took Dues Ex. Philo stone is not so bad if you are not going for heart. Some annoying fights like Byrds but pretty easy on A0.
Just got it with ironclad, building a strength deck, pretty fun all in all, especially with feed giving me extra total health and reaper for that heal to replace healing relics, first try actually hehe
Why didn't you swap for a boss relic for more reliable energy? Or was that not an option when you recorded this? (I only just got the game a couple of days ago and so not sure what was there on release vs recent updates!)
My attempt at this run was to combine it with the achievement for having a deck of only commons and do a single run with the watcher trying to force a pressure points deck. It worked like a charm until my muscle memory inevitably picked up a crappy relic deep into the run... I managed to get the one achievement but failed at the no relics one. Sadge.
For real... I relic swapped into Cursed Key, got Creative AI from the first boss, deck was crushing all and cruising through Act 3. I almost paid my remaining 2 gold to get the Red Mask, but caught myself. Then I realized I bought the mirror (copies a card in your deck), to get an extra copy of Seek, from the merchant a few rooms back. Mentally at the time, I thought I was buying a seek, rather than a relic. Epic punt!
i didn't win with it, but my attempt at this with a boss swap into a busted crown was the most hilariously miserable trudge through the spire i've ever taken
I got this achievement with Iron Clad and boss relic swapped into Snecko Eye, and then just proceeded to take high impact cards until I won! Watcher would probably be easier though nowadays for sure.

I got it with the cursed key off of a boss swap with ironclad. I believe I used corruption shenanigans to carry me. I love this discussion style stuff with heavy commentary! You are great at it.
@@somewony It is pretty much strictly worse, it's the same as black star where it does nothing on its own, but you have a curse, and you ofc can't take the relics it gives you either

Already looked up and found most of these tips and was ready to give up on this achievement. But I got it right after watching this video with Watcher. Lots of change form, gain mantra and finally luck. Getting rid of a couple defends was a great tip.
FINALLY got this on watcher as I was watching this video for tips, considering I've been banging my head against this wall for a little while. Cursed Key boss swap was a godsend considering I didn't want to open chests anyway, so I missed out on basically nothing but the chance for a little extra gold, which isn't as big a deal when you're not looking to buy relics in shops either. I actually took Fasting for once, which really helped out when I decided to play it. So glad this achievement is over, it sucked.
After playing on A20 for months on my Switch, I started all over again on the mobile version of the game (highly recommend btw) and I've been trying to exclusively try for one of the challenge run achievements (no relics, commons only, minimalist, etc) every run as I climb the ascensions again to make it more interesting. Relicless in particular is probably my favorite because it feels like more or less the same level of difficulty as A20, but there's so much more emphasis on building a great deck rather than finding some lucky relics that solve your problems. Obviously the deck is important in A20 as well, but I've found that it's much easier to evaluate and pinpoint issues with your deckbuilding decisions when you don't have relics to band-aid over your shortcomings. Every character's card pool was given the tools to deal with every issue you might run into during a run: energy generation, card draw, consistent damage mitigation, and damage scaling being the big ones. As long as you don't boss relic swap into an energy relic at the beginning, you're going to improve a ton at learning how to use all of the tools your deck offers--and, just like in A20, die fairly often if you don't find the right ones at the right times. But as long as I can learn from my mistakes, it's a lot more fun to me than just steamrolling through all of the lower ascensions again.
When I got this achievement, I didn’t even get the Holy Water. I just had the Pure Water but I had a ridiculous Conjure Blade strat with Collect, Deus Ex Machina, and Meditate that had lots of Calm and Stance-switching synergy to block until you get your giant Expunger
I've just gotten this achievement with Ironclad, after three runs where I at some point picked up relics on accident. It was a Drop Kick-infinite deck with a Searing Blow +8. First ever Searing Blow run I've done and I am VERY happy I picked it up, because with an infinite deck of course I had to run into Time Eater Act 3. Deck was 10 cards at the end, with 5 of them being skills, one of them being Corruption and then just Bash, 2 Drop Kicks and Searing Blow. I did have a Dual Wield for good measure.
Very nice video man. Admittedly this was a very lucky run in terms of what cards appeared, and the upgraded initial relic, however you do seem to have a talent for deckbuilding, and this shows in the endgame, watcher absolutely wrecks with the right picks ans is quite possibly the best class in the game in terms of endgame scaling with just cards. Who needs relics? exactly. I haven't had good luck with this achievement, I only tried it a few times with ironclad and silent, and ended up not having enough block for the final boss or the endgame hallway fights such as the transient or writhing mass. However now i'm thinking i should try it with watcher even though its the class i have the least experience with. Card draw mechanics and energy generation on the watcher honestly seem bonkers compared to other classes.
Ironclad, Silent & Defect all on a1. The extra elites in Act 1 and 2 drop more gold and better card rewards than hallway fights. Both things you want to compensate for your lack of relics.
Made it all the way to the end of Act 3 and was feeling very confident so I got the mark of the bloom from the mind bloom event. I got the mark of the bloom. I did not abandon run just to take my anger out on the awakened one
I didn't know keys counted as relics! I could never figure out why I was failing to get the achievement, I thought it was broken, about to try it again, thanks baalor!
Well, when he rejected the key at the first chest, I thought that meant relics counted, but he got them later, so, idk why it failed before for me then. /shrug Either way, have it now! Not going for keys also probably made things easier anyways.
I got it with ironclad swapping my starting relic for Mark of pain got myself two upgraded evolves to negate them and build my card draw around them. Had fallen short at the stage 3 boss a couple of times prior to getting it with better decks.
I got the achievement with Snecko Eye with Ironclad. Had a deck with x3 Demon Form+, x2 Heavy Blade+, and x1 Feed for offense. For defense I had x2 Flame Barrier+ and x1 Barricade (Also had some other cards that weren't as helpful). Not an infinite, but a very fun deck to play 😃
Question about this achievement-can you swap your relic so you still have one relic and still complete the achievement? Iron Clad and The Defect have relics where you can swap and still have just one relic. Curious if anyone has done that.
This achievement is super hard to get. I’ve been trying for the past couple days now. I’ve tried at least 10 times and keep losing to act 2 boss or the first couple act 3 fights. My deck always seems to clog up with useless cards. The watcher is the character who I am the worst at as well. I’m on ascension 12 on my iron clad but I still havnt beat act 3 with watcher yet. The grind continues…
Got this long before the watcher was added but also before they added so so many of the boss relics, so swapping burning blood into Snecko Eye was much easier
Hey Baalorlord, do i need to beat Act 4 for this achievement or is until act 3 sufficient enought? Because i think for the Common Sense achievement you only need to beat act 3
REALLY suprised ya didnt mention removing the starting relic as the basic relic are nice but with a bit of luck something like dead branch could be all you need
Dead Branch isn't a boss relic, so you can't swap for it. The only way you can get a dead branch in a who needs relics run is if Nloth shows up and eats you starter relic.
I FOUND THAT IRONCLAD, IF YOU ARENT FAMILIAR WITH THE END GAME 5 CARD SETUP! ITS REALLY DIFFICULT OTHERWISE! YOU HAVE TO BE SOMETIMES OVERLY AGGRESIVE IN HIS PLAYSTYLE!
Instructions unclear. Accidentally got "you are nothing" with a turn 1 rushdown infinite. Final decklist was rushdown+, fear no evil+, and eruption+ This is the second time I've accidentally gotten the wrong achievement after following one of your guides. I'm thinking it's probably a user error thing.
Easiest way to get that is to go infinite with the watcher with boss relic swap. Vigilance + Eruption 2 card infinite. Does take luck to start, but past that it's a breeze
Coffee Dripper swap with watcher! Got lucky with sustain relics and barely beat time eater. Playing on low ascension for achievement hunting always helps :P
At 11:30 you missed the Membership Card. As long as it costs less than or equal to half of your current gold, it's a pure net positive. You had 303 gold, and it cost 149.

The most difficult thing about this challenge is that you keep picking up relics out of sheer muscle memory.

Literally just took the relic in act 3 to upgrade 2 attacks, both strikes. Already had Apotheosis, corruption, and apparitions. Pain.
or you take events that give relics without thinking, for example I took mind bloom upgrade all no more healing, got a relic :(

I did it with Silent w/ Pandoras box. Got 2 noxius fumes, 4 0-cost attacks, and 3 block cards. Didnt need any extra energy.

Got it with Silent+Serpent Ring with Nightmare, 2* Wraith+, 2* Catalyst+. Final fight got catalyst+nightmared on turn 1 and won on turn 2 :D
I did it with Watcher by taking Rushdown, Inner Peace and Mental Fortress and removing as many Defends/Strikes as possible.
I got this achievement as the Watcher, using Holy Water for energy and Omega as my main damage source.
I think I finally got this achievement just using the Ironclad base relic.

Yes, as long as you have just one at the end.
