GOOD OL GAMES THOUGH EH? I wish there was an all in one video game console that'd just play everything but unfortunately life don't work like that. Hopefully one day! Lemme know if there's and oldie you gotta work to play, I love finding "new" games to check out!

Solatorobo and the first two Ar tonelico games. I guess they aren't the HARDEST games to emulate or even play but you tell me the last time you even knew where your DS was, much less dusted it off to play (not counting Austin who does it for videos). Ar tonelico has roms of course, even has a better fan translations but implementing it is more annoying than it needs to be and every year that passes my original PS2 discs get closer to disc rot.

I remember playing it on the original Xbox back in 2003. Then I sold the console and games and recently rebought it because of a video I saw in Modern Vintage Gamer's channel. The game still holds up and I can easily recommend anyone picking up an OG Xbox to apply a modchip and a few other things to make it an awesome experience. Most of the games in that generation had better resolution/framerate there. I had a lot of fun 100% Jet Set Radio Future and when I went to play Jet Set Radio I was kind of disappointed that the controls were a little too stiff.

Older games can be easily emulated, but the worst case is with games that are old enough to be out of current generation and/or back compat, but at the same time "new" enough to be hard to emulate, such as Project Gotham Racing 4 (X360), Def Jam: Fight for NY (Xbox, PS2) and Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3). Kid Icarus Uprising is one of my favorite games ever and it pains me that the game is stuck on a device with a small low-res screen that gives you carpal tunnel.
You can't even really emulate it very well because the controls are so specifically designed for the 3DS. Even Wii games, you can tie the pointer to the mouse and shakes to buttons and it can feel okay, but the flick-to-turn thing just doesn't work on anything but a touch screen.

Great series. Badly translated GBA ports aside. BOFIII and IV are highlights for me. Old school switch puzzles and a big grind are the only real criticisms. Would pay for modern remaster or even ports to the modern systems. A nice collectors edition would work as well.
Jet Set Radio. Be cool to see an upscaled port with HD art/modern graffiti tropes. The sound mix is one of my fave aspects of the game series. I think the big problem for a JSR would be music licensing.

Even Dragon Quest doesn't get the love it deserves outside Japan. We're still missing Dragon Quest X, a 10 year old game, and in my opinion, the best of them all. Even the offline remake (the original was an MMORPG) that just came out in Japan is not planned for any worldwide release.
Not to mention spinoffs like Dragon Quest Monsters which hasn't seen a release outside Japan for at least 7 games, and the Dragon Quest Mystery Dungeon games featuring Torneko Taloon from DQ4 and Yangus from DQ8, only one of which was ever released outside Japan (though this subseries has been dormant for a long time even though the wider Chunsoft Mystery Dungeon series the first game spawned continues to this day).

Luckily indie game devs have not forgotten. The inaccessibility is sort of creating this void where indie games that stylize and make the most of new and old design elements are the new trend and I love it. Creates a lot less dilution among modern games.
It's bittersweet. Classics are fleeting but their successors are laying some great ground work for videogames in general.

I agree with you. It seems like up until now we're FINALLY getting software capabilities catching up to our modern advanced hardware technology. Until now, we've had improving hardware, yet our software systems are still limiting and holding us back so much at (how games are made, how they can be built, rendered, how the gameplay feels, how tedious things are, etc. Etc.) For me, I have been barely interested in many games for quite some time. Then I saw The Calisto Protocol coming out and honestly it's a game I am most excited for in SUCH A LONG TIME. Glen Schofield is so good at putting together amazing team's. They have so much passion into their project. They've put so much effort and complexity into the gore effects, physics effects, atmosphere, environment, gross & grime, yet it's oddly facinating & amazingly facinating to look at. I'm so excited. This dev team seems so good and passionate about what they do and create. It gives me vibes to the best of the good old days of the Xbox 360 era games. Finally something like that but with the capabilities of the modern day and used in actually good effective ways. It's crazy how rare it has been to see something like that. We've been going through a long slump in gaming quality lately for the past few years imo. So I'm hoping this is the start to a new chapter of good games coming back. Me personally, I care way less about graphics, ray tracing, etc. Compared to how much I care about physics builds, good enemies good a.I., physics effects related to combat and environmental aspects, character movement. Like being able to move around uniquely, climb, etc. Really letting us explore and play around with well built game mechanics in a polished environment. That's what matters to me. (BTW I got a range of old gaming systems so I can play old games because I to this day find myself enjoying them more than the majority of current era new games. I got a original Xbox. A 360, Gameboy color, Gameboy Advanced, N64) I have been loving going back and playing Max Payne 1 and 2, red dead Revolver, Alan Wake, skate 1, dead space 1&2, condemned, halo1-3, assassin's Creed 1 and 2, GTA 3-4, doom 3, L.A Noire, Singularity, Batman origins, etc. I have just been utterly loving diving back into these games. I just easily get playing and turn my brain off, and lose myself into the mindless video game experience. When they focused on if a game felt good to play, or was fun, catchy gameplay)

It's good to see you clear and talk about what you want to talk about it because then you can tell enjoyment in your voice when you talk about these things, and that's what's most important that you continue to do stuff you want to do, but honestly giving any up and coming or forgotten or struggling series that deserves some love because it is a good game, then that is also something I would very much be interested in watching and sharing with people.

These old consoles don’t cost a fortune, but they are entirely worth it to avoid the hurdles of emulation in some cases.
Computers are complex emulation or no, but consoles are plug and play.
Flash carts, ODE installations, higher quality cables for your flatscreen’s external upscaler, and even power supplies need to purchased and for the most part you want to be looking for modern power supplies, haha.
You don’t want to be using old ass PSUs if you can help it.
The costs add up but for consoles, it can really streamline the experiences...
Too bad upscalers are expensive as all hell and if you accumulate so many consoles you need space and an analog switcher... so get to CRT hunting... both avenues are the most stressful parts of using old hardware.
The consoles now outnumber the 15 kHz TVs we have, due to people not valuing them after our transition to digital.
It’s a rabbit hole, but well worth it, and can even motivate you to play these old games, as emulation isn’t very motivating at times. You can get tired of all the configuration, unless you’re broke and that’s another problems but emulation is great for when you’re broke!
7th generation consoles can be tricky especially for games that are delisted. Soft Modding these consoles is similar to emulation hurdles with much more risk.😅

I'm just thankful for all the emulators out there. Been playing PS1 stuff like crazy lately and I'm having a blast! It's crazy that a lot of old games are way better than most modern games coming out. No microtransactions and finished products, those were the good days.

Gotta love some old games. Some of those gems are stuck because they wouldn't be suitable for * cough* modern audiences *cough*. Seriously, a lot of AAA companies will invest more and more to attract the new generation then to support the old one. As for emulation support, well you showed the numbers. The community are not going to pay that ridiculous ammount to have a fidelity rom. I remember even Zelda Ocarina of Time to have lots of issues with emulation to this day. Emulation is just there to relieve our nostalgia after all. And we appreciate that. Thanks for the entertainment.

An entire segment could be dedicated to just Mistwalker's games.
Especially included would be The Last Story.

Bomberman 64 is one of my favourite games of all time, and I'm so mad that so many excellent 64 games are just lost to time now.

It baffles and offends me that ubi has the “Ubisoft classics +” collection and there’s NO rainbow six vegas… how? Of the like, 4 ubi games that have ever been worth playing, that game is number 1

I really don't understand how you can criticize Nintendo's handling of their old games, and not think Sony is worst.

Things are not getting better, with live services game preservation is at its worst right now

Honestly, all them "live service" games are complete shite, I'd say they wouldn't be huge losses if they were to not be preserved
