    Great decision on the JTRs😀👍🏻. I really enjoy all that you do in your videos and the wonderful passion you have for this amazing hobby! It’s great to see someone as excited as I get over HT! I ordered a t-shirt to show my appreciation; I have said that expression for years ever since I first heard it around the car audio scene in the 90s. Keep up the great work pal👍🏻.

    Hi
    Have you heard the JTR Captivator 2400 or another Ported JTR subbs..? You dont feel that you would would like to change to ported JTR subbs.? What would you say is the diffrence betwin the ported and seald JTR subbs..? Or do you prefer the seald JTR Subbs and why..?
    Im thinking on buying eather 2 JTR RS1 3200w or 2 JTR Captivator 2400 3200w.
    But i have not desided yet wich ones to go for.
    1450 qubic feet seald concreat room only movie watching.
    Any sugestions..?
    I had 2 svs pb4000 before but would like some more chest slam punch. I drove Them in standard mode and i liked the low end in Them but Always felt that i would liked more midbass. But i would like to Still feel the low end that the pb4000 have. Do you think i would miss the low end IF i would go for the RS1 subbs liked the pb4000 have..?

    I just upgraded all my speaker wire from 16gauge to 14gauge and I can hear the difference in quality, especially in my surround and my rear channels (since they require longer runs). I also upgraded the gauge in my 2 subwoofer boxes (dual 12's each). 4,000 watts RMS, 8,000watts MAX... 4 12" Rockville K9D12.

    I didn't think you were going to replace them! Good for you, mate.
    Iv'e been using the Minidsp 2x4 non-HD version for dual subs for about 2 years now and have figured out some things that only come with user experience. Please ask if your stuck with something and I'll see if I can help.
    With the Minidsp HD version, the plugin has 2 'global PEQ's' on the left side and then 4 'independent PEQ's' on the right side. The non-HD version has a similar block layout. For a dual subwoofer setup, some people opt to use the 'global PEQ' on the left for both subwoofers, as I have been doing but I had a null at around 60hz and just left it like that for about 1.5 years thinking it can't be fixed. It seems a little odd but I decided to start over but I EQ'd the subs independently FIRST using the 'independent PEQ' for each sub on the right side, then applying the filters in the plugin, then measure again with the corrected independent sub settings, THEN correct the final curve and apply that to the 'global PEQ' on the left side and now that null has disappeared! So all in all I'm EQ'ing 3 times - once for each subwoofer then once afterwards for both. What I'm saying is, what you think is a null may not be. I've seen you do have a null somewhere in your room IIRC from your REW graphs, but if you use this triple PEQ method, it may just fix it. My brain hurts.

      I take it the Mini dsp made a world of difference? Thinking of pulling the trigger on the mini dsp, mike, and software, have dual SVS subs, tried a lot of different positions, still have a huge null right in the main listening spots. Built a big bass trap in one corner that actually made a difference, but not enough.

    Great review! Typically with 4 subs, you see them placed in the corners of the room. I personally find your setup totally inspiring with 4 subs integrated into the main sound stage and you managed to slam it all behind the screen!? Man that's STRONG! It also feels more cinematic like the major cinemas that have all the front speakers and subs behind the screen. Although yours are dual subs in one box, they maintain the stacked sub affect which I think looks very cool. After following your build and a few others with the KRIX MX series, I'm planning to run a similar setup by stacking individual sealed subs behind my screen but of course, since this isn't "common" there's not many reviews out there about what to expect regarding pros and cons. With all the new room correction software available on AV / AVR's or coming soon, Dirac, DSP, ect... I'd assume one can achieve the same performance with the subs stacked behind that screen as a room with a sub in each of the 4 corners. How do you feel the bass response in your room compares to subs in the 4 corners? 4 subs are cool but can take up a lot of space. Your setup is actually more practical for most HT room sizes. #Inspired!

    FINALLY..... The fact that you're keeping them says a lot about those subs. I am in the very beginning of a HT build and when I say the very beginning I mean the very beginning. All I have is the room and 2 theater seats. My room is 16 x 14 x 8 so slightly smaller than yours but I don't necessarily need to hide speakers for aesthetics. I am leaning towards an all JTR system though so I am going to try my hardest to go to AXPONA this year. Thanks for the review and thanks for helping me in choosing what subs I will be choosing.

    They say that one of the secrets of these JTRs is actually the built in power amp. Most sub amps have built in circuits to limit the current when you send them lots of content below 20Hz, as to protect the amp. These JTRs keep going below 20Hz, as you experienced :-) If I am not mistaken, I believe the onboard amps are from a company called Speakerpower. They also have rack mount amps for DIY 'ers or passive subs.

    I feel like The Budget Audiophile has been touting the benefits of sealed subs, but I'm glad you got to experience it yourself, man. Low end extension > SPL. That said, JTR is on a completely different LEVEL than SVS. The PB16 Ultra is a good mid-level subwoofer, but when you're ready to get SERIOUS, companies like JTR are right there for ya!

    • @budgetaudiophile6048
      @budgetaudiophile6048 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I want to add to this: I completely get ported subs, I'm not bashing them at all. I just feel that once a person experiences multiple large drivers (like 4 18s for example) with big power in a large enclosure, there's no comparison. That linear response down to the single-digit frequencies (which you'll get with some more miniDSP action) is something that truly cannot be denied and I feel can't quite be replicated with ported subs. But that last bit is just my opinion/experience. I'm so stoked about this video and it makes me wonder if Youthman will ever delve into DIY to see why we get so hyped about it.

  • @Logic_Monster
    @Logic_Monster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Youthman, you kept saying how 4 18s is superior to 2 PB16 Ultras.
    Logical question:
    1) What if you had 4 PB16s? How would those compare to 2 RS2s?
    2) Did you notice other benefits from the JTR that you didn't see in the PB subs?

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. It would likely take 6-8 PB16’s to reach the same output at 8Hz as the RS2’s
      The PB16’s do experience port noise or port chuffing are high output. You do not have that with sealed subs.
      JTR is in a different league than SVS but they both have different target audiences.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Designing subwoofers is more than building a box and putting quality woofers in it. I still don’t see SVS being able to compete with them, especially if they add a nicer finish it and the DSP. Not to mention since SVS is now main stream and selling through places like Magnolia, they have to mark their speakers up a lot higher so if they made it an equivalent subwoofer, you would be looking at probably $6000 to $7000 retail

      @@Youthman in my opinion designing subwoofer and enclosures is a lot simpler than people think. There are probably tens of thousands of people that do it here in the states BUT doing it as a company is different. I myself could probably build my own enclosure and use my own drivers and spank the JTR dual 18s for less money all while looking much better. I'm not sure why they chose that finish. The fact that their dual 18" loaded box only weighs 200 pounds tells me a lot. Some subwoofer motors out there are close to 100lbs just by themselves. Anyhow, I wonder how JTR would do against something you could build using stereo integritys subs for the same money. Ultimately it comes down to what your preference is. You can not tune an enclosure that is the best at absolutely everything which is why you compensate with more motor force and cone area.

      If you can build a better sub, go for it. 👍

    Michael, switch to solid core doors now that you're getting rattle.

      The rattle is from the doors not locking in tight with the latch. I'm surprised though you dont have problems with that window in your theater though

    With how big these are I bet one of the considerations is you don't have to move them out if you buy them.
