- Mr. Goodpliers checks out an abandoned farmstead and mechanic's shop in Herkimer Kansas! Come along and look at relics in the farmhouse, barns, and sheds! Cars, trucks, tractors and more, untouched for decades! Then we'll head out back and wander through the graveyard of 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s vehicles!

So sad. I can only think of the people who have passed on and all of the ghostly memories on that beautiful farm..How their lives had meaning and purpose.
Every time I see something like that I get depressed.. this was once someone's dreams and hopes ... now it has lost all that 😢
I was just thinking the same thing, It is so sad who we used to be, and today our own Children and families do not have time for us. Way back in 1957 I and my New wife from St. Joseph, Missouri became Managers of the Bowlerina in Goodland , Kansas and Burlington, Colorado. When we opened under our management we allowed the locals to Bowl the first Week Free. and the Owner's was so upset because they did not owe those people anything. Sad to say, their attitude caused my wife to want to move on. I was just out of the 101 St. Airborne om february 19, 1957. That was to be my first Job as a young married veteran.
There is something satisfying about watching someone documenting an old residence in a respectful manner.
There's assholes and then there's adventures... u have just seen a adventurer in action.
The difference is a asshole will bust out the rear windows of every one of those cars with not even a thought. WE know the value both historically and financially
It's sad to see a place like that with so much history get taken apart. So many neat things there that took decades to accumulate. I would enjoy spending a few weeks there tinkering and getting things running. In the end we are only stewards of the things we have, everything gets passed on. Thank you for the tour of the farm, It brought back so many memories of a simpler time.

All the elements were in place, a balmy placid day, the whole place to yourself and everything frozen in time on an unheard of level of authenticity. It couldn't have gotten any more dreamy than this. The freight train horn off in the distance took it to a whole new nostalgic dimension. I'm so grateful to you for documenting these places and appreciating them for what they are. The real thing can not be recreated, they are getting fewer and fewer, and once they're gone, they're gone. Absolutely amazing.

I loved this place, just like walking back in time
Hopefully most of those vehicles were saved. There is a tremendous amount of useable, hard-to-find parts and trim out there in that field. I would have loved to have a few days to dig through those piles of metal. One can only imagine the amounts of useable, collectable hardware and stuff that is buried in there... Thanks for your continued efforts to document these historical sites loaded with human interest stories....
Glass especially in many of the field cars is in excellent condition and hard to find for many of them
yeah. I own a '50 ford and the replacement speakers are non existent
A lot of them are 2 doors .
What I really like is that you tell what the make and year of each vehicle is. A lot of guys shoot videos like this, miss some of the best cars and don't bother to tell you what the various cars are or the year. Typical of midwest farmers, who often were brutal on their cars and farm equipment. Being a good farmer is a time consuming business.
I'm amazed that these old family owned farms that are abandoned are still being found even in the early 21st Century intact and with equipment and vehicles to boot. May more be found.

I was 1 year old in '62. I don't quite remember what I was doing. 🤣😂 You got that right about the Texas guys. I would be on that tin in a heartbeat. And I'm old Texas gal. Thanks for taking the time to look around that old farm. Very cool. you are right about the old farms being split up. People don't realize the consequences of losing good farm land. No food. Recently, a lot of farm/ranch land down at the coast was hopefully not sold but leased for solar panels. What a waste.
Got me beat by a year.. I grew up on a place in the middle of Oklahoma like this... it's funny but altho I get a allover the world..every 15 or 20 years or so when I'm in that part of the world I go by there and stare at where I came from... anyway.... yup

I’m sitting outside in the sun in Hobart,Tasmania, Australia watching this on my iPad… Each time you identify a car, my phone, sitting on my lap would vibrate. Another piece of history, days past. Kind of sad to see it languish away. The green 52 Chevy was in great condition, two door, straight body, I hope someone saves it. Those tractors could be salvaged as there is a big market for them. Lots of parts that could be used, hate to see them scrapped. Good video.
I really enjoyed your visit to the old farm. Made me think of the of the junkyard my aunt and uncle lived next to when I was a kid. Sometimes Dad and us boys would sneak into when we'd visit. Those old cars were so neat. I always thought there was a certain dignity to them even in the junkyard. What I'd give to do that again.
Love that Farm stead, wish it was mine! Sad to see these old places disappear. Might be the same here in a very few years, as we get older and times change. Thanks for the tour.

As an auctioneer the first thing I told families or the caretakers is not to throw anything away or haul anything to junk until I got there and went through it.
Also any paperwork they find for tools or machine tools needs to go with the equipment. If the equipment has been long gone the paperwork is still of value to someone restoring said equipment. AL B.
I've picked better things out of dumpsters than some of the items I have bid for!
I don't think anything old can be categorized as refuse anymore other than the dirt and filth that happens to coat it. Take a walk through antique malls today and notice how even the most frivolous of items are being marketed. Everything is collectable now. I didn't see a single item in this whole video that wouldn't have been of interest or of value to someone. Even artists and creative folks are making use of things that are incomplete or broken. A sight like this may not be so unusual in this Midwest region but out west where I am, Las Vegas, the sight of all these things come with a significantly greater impact and are much much harder to come by. I hope none of it went to scrap, right on down to the random weathered planks.

It's just amazing how good the potmetal and chrome are on those 40s n 50s cars. That Pontiac coupe is more than a parts car... that's a "builder".😀

My mother lived in Kansas on a farm just like this. I always wanted to see it but apparently it was demolished to build a mall. I appreciate you showing everything so I can at least imagine what it was like.
I would love to photograph a place like this with my 4x5 camera and some sheets of bw film. Even though it’s sad to see a place in this condition, there is also beauty in it. Glad you were able to document it and share it with the rest of us.

You are so right when you said you hated to see this go away like it is because I sure do too Brother... when you first looked in the window of the machine shed and mentioned old lathes, I recognized the "Souix Valve Grinder" setting right there plane as day! I have this exact same model and these sell for $500-$1000 all day long! I live in Kansas and grew up with Grandparents with farms exactly like this... Darnit, that Rambler wagon would make a perfect patina rig - straight body and all good glass - I'd get it running and driving, clean up the interior a bit, and rock the exterior as-is.

As ever I’m impressed with your depth of knowledge, not so much the cars - I can usually get within a year of identifying them - but the rusty farm equipment. Great stuff 👍

Even though I love looking at old iron, cars, farm equipment etc. I like the old equipment the most. You just don't see it anymore, because like 4 door cars, the equipment is usually the 1st to go. That old equipment makes excellent focal points in flower beds, yards etc.

I know you're a busy guy, but... you should start another channel just to explore the architecture of these old farms. Houses, barns, etc. Any building 100 or so years old or more. That would be fascinating also.
You should check "Stepside adventures" channel. Robert and his crew does just that.

This farm had a serene, museum like feeling to it that I've only experienced a couple other places, out of the thousands I've been to. It hurt me seeing it dispersed. But that was the way it had to be.

What I would give for me, and my wife, just to be able to go inside this house and the barn, and all the buildings scattered on the property. And not only be able to do a walk-through, but to be able to spend as much time looking things over, but to be able to take as much time as we wanted. In doing-so.

Pretty amazing that stuff is still around. I guess it took this long for the scrap yards to come around out there in the middle of nowhere the metal had nowhere else to go.

In 1962, I was living in McPherson County in the town called Windom. My dad was the last principal of Windom High School, which closed in 1966.

The skiny 2 wheels on front of tractors my uncle used on corn farming,as they fit between the rows of corn,so this farm must have done corn harvesting besides being the local repair shop!

Great video Tim, I always learn from them. Good comparison of the 55and 56 Pontiacs. The old man had a 55 when we were kids, also the 54 Ford with the bullet in the grill center. Rear quarter trim also show the year difference on the 52 to 54 Fords

Another great place. 1937 Chevrolet Style No 1217 Master 2dr. Coupe, Paint 217 Toronto Blue (dark blue), Trim 63 Brown Mohair. Was a very pretty car.
Most of those cars are salvageable! The folks that collected these vehicles had a good eye!

The welder is a Lincoln. The electric motor versions I used years ago used a 10 horsepower motor to turn the welder armature. Sounded like an idling jet engine.AL B.
Damn !! This must have been a massive farm . I have never seen a farm with a Boiler Plant / building with one boiler , let alone three !! Wow ! There must be a massive fuel oil tank underground . Other than heating the house , maybe . What else were they for ?! All this accumulation laying around , had to be from several generations . Unless he did repair work for others cars and equipment , and these are old parts off those ... Great video ... WOW !!
