A family member built a pond a while back and he placed two carp in to keep the algae down. They were a breed that wouldn't multiply or two males maybe. Or some grass algae eating fish. They got huge too.
Thanks Dan, and good call. I planted blue mesa sheep fescue on another part of the property, and I love it. Great look, and I haven't mowed it in 12 months.
Congrats on the successful year thus far. Your water quality is amazing. I’m looking forward to getting my water quality to look like yours once I’m up and running
Thank you. I would really pay attention to your perimeter and shoreline around the pond. Get it growing in vegetation quickly and try and re-route any water from rains so that it doesn't go into your pond. That will probably help the most.
@@ryanhoelke I was thinking of doing an under ground piping system to feed water from the gutters of a nearby structure to the pond. What do you think of that?
@@ryanhoelkeno problem! We have a 3 acre pond in our neighborhood. I have got our HOA to put in an aeration system, installed by me. There are so many different types of fish in this pond… I wish I could kill it off and start over… but no one in the neighborhood would go for that. Lots of bullhead catfish, common carp and other garbage fish. I need to cull out bass big time.
Good stuff, Ryan. Thanks for the "ride along", while doing your build!

Thanks. I've heard of the work that the grass carp can do.
Plant hard fescue or called no mow grass no maintenance and looks great

Have you considered channel catfish? They make good eating.

@@vacowboy75 I guess it would be a good source of water and the piping would get the water to the pond without mixing with dirt/soils.
@@ryanhoelke many thanks. My thoughts exactly
are you going to add largemouth bass too?
Yes, just put a couple in. I'm still working on the video, will be up soon.
Can we get more pond videos? Thanks
Yes, sorry for the wait. I shot 3 or 4 in late summer and soon will have some time to work on editing them.

Ya, I guess as many as you can catch and remove might be the only way in such a public pond.
It vould help a waterfall to move the water.
Yes, I'm thinking of a waterfall someday.
