I actually found that steel and titanium do make my phones more durable. My old iPhones used to all dent and scuff until I switched to Pro iPhones, I find that they’re much harder to dent, heck even scratch
maybe youre less careless with it because you perceive it as more valuable. i know my aluminum iphone is all scuffed and dented. but my titanium one is pristine. i dont treat them the same.
I hope they keep using titanium for exposed metal. They can use whatever internally to reduce weight. The latest iPhones are so durable I feel better going caseless.
I would actually love to see a bolder design like going diagonally, which if utilized correctly could actually look good and function pretty well. I have a base 15 (upgraded from an 8 Plus) and I actually wouldn’t mind a third camera lenses being diagonal looking like tic-tac-toe. At least if Apple took that approach they’d be original instead of doing some copy and paste job of a Google Pixel.
I really hate the aluminum leak going from titanium to aluminum is really stupid me i want apple to keep the pro models on titanium forever or put a even stronger and harder like tungsten alloy for example
Titanium is lighter than aluminum. It also is definitely stronger than aluminum. I’ve been a couple aluminum phones without cracking the screen in the upper corners, but never a titanium or a stainless steel phone. Edit: I was wrong about the weight of titanium. Must’ve been thinking of stainless steel.
Apple’s version of “shrink-flation”. They’re not mainly doing for the benefit of the customer but for profit. Aluminum is the cheaper option to save them money since they haven’t raised the prices of the phones.
Aluminium frames have more apparent scratches since they lose the external coating and show the aluminium color quite easily. My 12 Pro instead even if scratched and dropped is quite uniform and due to the glossy finish hides that quite well. Yes it's heavier, but most of the heat is dissipated through the front and back glass, not the frame. That's because the SoC is positioned to be near the center and then the thermal structure works to spread the heat as much as possible, so that you won't feel it and at the same time more surface = more cooling. For the horizontal camera layout.... well thanks to the stupid Vision Pro and it's spatial video 3d things we can rule it out, they just moved the cameras on the 16 in vertical for that one purpose. And about the rumor I think it's a misuderstanding/translation error: the "back" may referr to the backplate, which is already aluminium inside the pro phones, and the changes around the camera may be for heat transfer. And/or the aluminium may be bonded to the glass to improve rigidity or work on toughness, reduce gass shards/shatter ecc ecc. But this would still allow the external "visible" part to be 100% glass eventually
I just got a brand new iPhone 16 for just over $600 Canadian this Black Friday! I was going to hold off for another year, but the camera on my iPhone 11 is acting up again, even though I just had it replaced a few months ago.
@@Hello.53idk I’m pretty happy with my 16 PM besides the random shut offs. I was coming from an iPhone XR with a broken back camera with black bubbles in it. Also battery was so bad I had to charge it every 2 hours. It was also starting to show its age with random lags and freezing on apps so, enjoying my 16
i'm still using my iPhone X , waiting for some version of the iPhone which is slim , has fewer cameras , light weight, and ROUNDED Curves. maybe the SE 4 would be good 🤞
The older models were definitely more ergonomic. Sure, the squared look does look better, but it feels worse. And the gigantic camera modules also get in the way frequently.
I find it hard to believe they would arrange the cameras this way after moving the 16 models to be vertical for shooting spacial videos. But maybe they are ditching that for some reason?
Not quite right about titanium. It’s actually lighter than aluminum as you need less of it for the same strength. Yes aluminum is a better heat conductor as you said but the chassis has little to do with the heat in the iPhone.
An iPhone that's lost a quarter of its weight would be very cool indeed. The slim and light phones feel so good. And there are quite strong and light alloys, like the aluminium-magnesium ones used in aerospace industry.
Knowing Apple, they're probably not gonna settle with acknowledging that it's just aluminium. Perhaps some new fancy metal mix and call it "Alumantium".
I honestly can't wait to see this "redesign" to the Camera array that people have been talking about. I imagine the cameras being lined up side by side, or the cameras being incased in glass like the iPhone 8 Plus models and moved to the middle.
My guess is that the camera placement will be the same, they'll just increase the bump horizontally across the top back of the phone. Otherwise they run the risk of it looking too "Android" like
I hope that people understand that these renderings are just the result of imaginative people. And this back and forth between him and himself are just silly.
Just like the iPhone 5/5S/SE had an aluminium back with glass pieces at the top and bottom, the new iPhones could do a reverse thing. Glass back with strips of aluminium at the top and bottom.
Time for a new look? Yes. Time for better camera arrangement? Yes. Making it look like these mockups? No thanks. It may be somewhat similar, but I think it'll end up being another dynamic island case where everyone was doing "i hole" mockups.
But it _is_ true that aluminum’s thermal conductivity is about 11x that of titanium. But it has nothing to do with density. Gold is denser than either of them by a significant margin, and also has much better thermal conductivity than either of them.
i just know youtubers years down the line would go on and on about how iphone materials used to be better when looking back at the titanium days if we ditched it 😂
Google: can I put more apps on your phone Apple: iOS 19 is no longer supporting Google apps for an obvious reason Google actually didn't pay enough for they're apps to be supported on our phone$15,000 a month
Let’s not forget, titanium and steel have bad fingerprints. Oh we got the frosted glass to help with that, anywhere here’s a metal that picks up fingerprints so well so you can’t win anyway.
I switched to a galaxy fold because of how underwhelming this year's iPhones and apple watches have been so I'm open to being brought back to the iOS side. The 17 slim rumours are tempting me
That would be so troll for Apple to move to titanium and get every phone manufacturer to do so and raise their prices and then go to aluminum and be like surprise b****.
It’s also not a very Apple thing to do. Probably titanium frame with aluminium back, it’s also a differentiation between pro and non-pro. Glass is simply less conductive than any metal. They have the resonant tech to do this and force people to buy new mag-safe accessories
I don't get why people are even talking about next year's iPhone 17 Pro. Especially when you know the so-called leaks and rumours are gonna turn out to be utter rubbish as always 🤭🤦♂
MacOS doesn’t belong on iPads, iPadOS should be more of a striped down MacOS instead of iOS on the pros feature wise, just have elements of both as the middle child
I cant see apple just shifting back to aluminum. They made a huge splash and itd make no proper marketing sense to back track in under 2 yrs. But i definitely can see aluminum (as well as the weird choice for camera array) for the supposed air/slim model. Theres no precedent so anything can go. Apples only time to be “creative” with a product.
So Apple decided that since It can't seem to innovate anymore, they'll just copy Google. Google copied Apple when "creating" the Pixel 9, but wait....Im so confused. Thats why Im a Samsung Knight. At least until the S25 comes out...because THAT phone will look just like an iPhone.
is it just me or since the 14 [13 really] they have been making shabby decisions. like im genuinely thinking of just jumping to android it seems like they cant get anything right anymore
Apple needs to get rid of the gimmicky worthless pointless stupid camera button. Apple also needs to bring back the original photos app, the iOS 18 photos app is a total failure, at least give everyone the choice to revert back to the complete original photos app that was not broken and worked perfectly. I upgrade my iPhone every year but this year not, the 16 series is a waste and Apple knows it. I am looking forward to the release of the iPhone 17 Air/Slim though. Until then I’ll stick with my 15 Pro.

Not correct, we use other metrics (gram and kg / m3) in Europe compared to US but the fact remains that Alu is 66% lighter than titanium…
In what universe is Titanium lighter than Aluminium??
but the iPhone pros are truly heavy af, could be due to the dense battery + freakin metal
