      I think real life tends to crush a lot of people and it kinda sucks to get older in current society so people get bogged down in life and responsibilities, are probably kind of depressed but don't really realize/understand what's happening.

      Also smartphones have been mainstream for close to 15yrs now. They’re not new anymore. Even if we get nice new revolutionary features today it’s not as big of deal. Back then like iPhone 4 or earlier smartphones were still new. Then add on new features.

    This video actually makes a really good 10 year anniversary video for this channel. The review-genre on TH-cam is such a weird thing because you do see a lot of smaller TH-camrs who seem to think that if they spend outrageous amounts of money on products to review they somehow stand out from the crowd when most of the successful once have been around for so long because people specifically want their opinions and perspectives on things, not just facts.

    It's kinda funny you mention this because while tech is definitely "matured" as a market, I am absolutely ASTONISHED at how awesome the M4 stuff is. I have a M4 iPad Pro 13 inch and a M4 Mini and they are just so incredible. Unfortunately I don't think content creators have much to say about them though; they're just... really, really REALLY good products, there isn't a ton to talk about on a video basis like there was years ago.

    • @CeeJay591
      @CeeJay591 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think Drew has swung too far the other way - I also bought the M4 iPad and have convinced others to try it as well, and the general consensus is that, with the nano-textured glass, M4 processor and new display technology, it is far better than any previous iPad. Also, I agree that Drew’s example of the Mac mini is a poor one - while there is no need to review the newest MacBook or iPhone, the new Mac mini is a leap forward and I certainly would have liked to get Drew’s hands on take on it. At $600 I can’t imagine it would break the bank….

    You're doing great, Drew. I love Apple products and have since I was a teenager, but I have only owned a handful of Apple products since my mid-twenties. I personally don't need you to buy everything they release to talk about them. In general, their products are mostly just great and homogenous, and they either work for your needs or not. Right now their phones work for my needs but their computers don't; I currently don't have any Macs because my primary software is Windows-only and despite Parallels being great on Apple Silicon, running everything directly on a good Windows machine just gets work done with less hoop-jumping than when I had an M1. I have also found that I don't need tons of computers for every specific task. I come for your commentary, comedy, and outlook on these products that we love but that also frustrate us. Keep doing what you're doing while it keeps making sense/cents for you. We appreciate you.

    Happy Thanksgiving Drew!! Long time viewer here. You haven't changed. Apple has changed. The silicon has changed. The world has changed. I became EVEN MORE interested in your channel back in 2022/2023 when you were using/reviewing/daily driving older iPhones. At that time (and even now), many people were feeling financially unstable. You popularized the idea of holding onto devices for longer. During the chip shortage, we all learned to make do with what we have. But when that shortage ended, people went back to "disposable tech". At the same time, companies like Framework arose in response to Apple's locked down ecosystem. Now, I watch your channel because you still review the new stuff, but stick with the old. So do I, thanks in part to you. This is the longest I've ever kept a MacBook (M1 Pro 16" MacBook Pro), even extended the apple care so that I can replace the battery when it dips below 80%. The fact that you and your wife are experiencing tech changes in real time (along with the rest of us) but still managing to grow/expand despite economic concerns, you set a great example.

    I was an Apple fan for the past 22 years since I bought my first G4 tower back in 2022. It was a positive first Apple experience so I was a dedicated fan for years but they finally priced me out of the market and I noticed there’s seemingly no rhyme or reason to their releases. They’ll release a couple of generations of the Mac Studio Ultra (M1; M2) then skip it altogether on the M3 release and possibly on the M4 as well…then they suddenly drop a bunch of M4 iPad Pros. Their releases seem arbitrary at times, like they just suddenly realized they forgot to release an update of something for a few generations and then suddenly decide to throw one out just to justify keeping it around (like the Mac Pro).

I just couldn't justify a new Macbook Pro because my M1 Max that I got cheap second hand is doing really good. I recently upgraded from a 15 Pro to 15 Pro Max and i am planning on keeping it for min 2-3 years, hopefully more than that. I am excited for Apple Intelligence because that is something I will be able to experience for free with my own devices. More and more is an incremental increase with a promise of functionality “coming soon”. There is so much on an iPhone these days I will never use, have no use for, but have to have it turned on and accommodate for it. 😕. These days other mobile devices are drawing my enthusiasm. Been subscribed since 2016! Thanks Drew for making this video, I think it was long overdue and we appreciate you clearing up your ‘status’ as a creator rn
    I’m still gonna stay subscribed and I’m interested to see where Apple is headed in the next couple of years

      Agreed! He’s helped me to realize we don’t need an upgrade all the time. It’s cool to use devices for as many years as you can. Especially now a days where the upgrades are so minimal. Thank you Drew!

    I really like this type of video you made. It's amazing that you brought this up, because I was thinking the same thing. I think Apple has changed in my opinion. if I could go back in, choose not to buy most of the products, that they sell I would be more of a minimalist on what I bought. I really just use my iPad Mac and my phone. The reason I have my iPad is because I like to create music. The reason I have my Mac, is there are some features that macOS has that iPad don't have. I have my iphone because a lot of my apps are paid, also I can't transfer them or find an equivalent of them for on an android phone. And since money is pretty tight right now for me, at least it would be fun to see what it was like, to actually step outside of my ecosystem for a couple of weeks, just see what it was like, even though its not really an option right now for me, right now. 👍🏾

    Change is inevitable which means evolution is too, so just go with the flow.
    As for the Mac Mini, go ahead and buy one. You admit that you are thinking long term and with potential tariffs and price rises looming it makes sense as an investment.
    Story wise, comparing the info on the SE4 to the iPhone Air. The idea that the most and least expensive models could have the same modems and cameras? Can’t wait to see Apple doing backflips to explain that.

    I do think it’s important to bring up the point of not needed to upgrade every year. I’m glad you’ve been saying that because it definitely helps with the temptation of wanting to buy the next new thing

    I completely agree. I mean I was a smartphone user since the mid 2000s and every year was exciting and there were significant hardware and software changes every year. Now in the 2020s the technology has matured and there’s just not the same kind of excitement as there was back then.

    Apple absolutely has changed for the worse over the last two years it’s not just you drew. It’s something Sam kohl has pointed out, that apple is very much a fractured company internally and there is clearly a lack of transparency and coordination between all the departments

    Well Drew this is an interesting video because you USED to talk about how “year over year” upgrades are getting smaller over time, but now suddenly it’s like you have a distain about this.
    Upgrades from across the market will get smaller, it’s not exclusive to Apple. The fact is that if you don’t like Apple anymore then just come out with it, I don’t think anyone will mind if you do but making snarky replies to rumors about iPhone upgrades seems just negative.

    I have been following you for many years. In the early years I was like, this guy is so mature for his age... and now you are on a whole other level. You are both objective and funny, and very reasonable. I buy many Apple products but I can't stand the real sheeps, those who despise anything that is not Apple, I stopped following them, some fortunately stopped making videos after being hired by some competitor brand... Anyway I hope to be following you for many, many years to come

    Hey Drew. A little advice please. It is the Black Friday. I was about to get a refurbished MacBook Pro M1 16GB 512SSD at less then 1000$ and the basic Mac mini M4. But I saw a MacBook Pro M4 pro chip with 24GB RAM and 512 SSD at 1800$. I don’t know if it the MacBook M4 is sufficient. Having a Mac mini and a refurbished M1 is not too much ?

      I know I’m not Drew, but if I’m understanding you correctly, the MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip (with more memory, at that) seems like a way better value. Not sure if you’d still need two machines, but that’s what I would start with if it were me.

    I have always been an Apple guy since the 3Gs. The last iPhone I had was the XS, and I jumped to the Galaxy Note. I have been using the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem since then and am very happy. I won't say that Samsung is so much more innovative, but as far as software features, Android, Samsung specifically, is way ahead in functionality and usefulness, for me.

    When the first iPad came out, that was a really big deal. It was a completely new product category etc. That was exciting.
    Going from the iPad Air 5 to the iPad Air 6, you are just replacing a comically over-powered M1 chip with an even more comically over-powered M2 chip; and other than in the numbers on Geekbench test scores, you aren't going to be able to tell the difference.
    I went from the Air 4 to the Air 6 purely because I could get a 13" screen without paying Pro prices for it. I really can't tell the difference in speed between the A14 and the M2.
    As I've said for a while now, tech is getting to be like washing machines. I'm sure if I went over to washing machine TH-cam, I would learn about all the new features in the latest washing machines, but I really don't care. I bought my last one because my previous one broke. Same for the one before that. And the one before that I bought because I moved out of my parents' house and needed to have my own.

  • @ozymandias_yt
    @ozymandias_yt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Especially for full time TH-cam creators, the alignment with the own community interests for good view counts are often stressful and sometimes even limiting. In a world where most mediums are already optimized for optimal wide spread adoptability, I personally appreciate when creators can dive into more niche topics, which wouldn't interest a lagre target demographic, but are nonetheless fascinating on their own. I just still really like your channel!

    I agree. Apple and tech as a whole has changed - even Samsung and Google too. And we do change and evolve as people as we grow, but you’ve always been honest and upfront about Apple (and we love you for it)! I still think Apple is the same company at its core, it’s just that the smartphone as a technology has matured and plateaued and we’re seeing this among all smartphone brands. Apple just gets more flack for it lol
