      I got the same but bone stock gonna start adding power very soon. My wife hates the car cuz everytime we're in town I'm frying the right rear tire in Griswold truck. Maybe she will be a little happier when both tires spin.

    Just did this install on a '86 K-10. Works awesome! However, the install was slowed because the little bolt that holds in the center pin was broken. Ended up drilling into the carrier to the left of the pin. We were able to hold the broken end of the pin while drilling into the broken pin from the right. A little air pressure forced the broken end of the pin out of the carrier. Over all a 90 minute project. No bangs, pops, or other drama while driving on tar. Love it!!

    finally got fed up enough, so I bought a 4wd, to make something a bit more serious, but on a budget, but for mostly use for commute to work, in snow, or to get to my home, which is off road. 1 home is 1 mile from a paved road, primary home is 1/4 mile off road, but up a mountain side, im getting to old to lug propane, gas, groceries up mountain side. when snows on ground, or even in summer time when hard rain, I cant get up driveway. in my past I have had a had a Jeep Cherokee, and a Subaru, and both have failed, both were crushed when a big tree fell tree also got my Honda Accord, my daily driver beater, and a GMC 1 ton 2wd I used to haul gravel with.
    so no plans to go off road, other than my own yards. we just got a snow 2 weeks ago, it took 10 days before I could get a second vehicle down mountain, I had only parked 1 at bottom. during time when my vehicle was snowed in, I put down payment on truck. my wifes car was only 1 that I had parked at bottom.
    the 4wd, I havent got yet, a used car lot is letting me do payments, plus I will be doing work to reduce payments. when I get it 1/2 paid, he will let me take it home. its a 1992 Chevy Silverado 4wd with 5 speed. planning to put a cable operated lock to do away with solenoid, and want to make it so I hopefully can get up & down driveway in bad weather?
    my wife is 67, I am 55, and have back & knee issues, no plans to sell home, cant afford to but another home, & no desire to live near people, and my second home was cheap, belonged to best friend, his family sold it to me dirt cheap, but just a Mobile Home 1 mile into woods, opening up to 10 mile mountain views in backyard. not tried to go there in over 2 weeks, due to weather, will plan to this weekend, but normally stay there 1-3 days a week, & rest of time primary home.
    so will lunchbox lockers front & rear, plus chains do what I want? maybe???? a decade ago, I had 2 months couldnt drive up or down driveway, I had the Jeep Cherokee, but of course 2 wheels would spin, thats all, never made it but maybe 100+ foot. while I normally park maybe 5 feet off the road when expecting bad weather.

    Thank you I liked and subscribed.... I'm a average Joe just trying to be self sufficient when it comes to mechanical problems.. your video really saved my ass and thank you soooo much for the quick reply.... I'm searching for the carrier now .... just to be sure as long as I use my ring gear I can use any open load carrier out of any gm 10 bolt 8.6 2000 and newer models with disc brakes... ? Just checking to make sure I keep my gearing correct.....

    Awesome vid!! Thanks for sharing info, I’m going to go with a locker on my c10 turbo build! Limited slip is a little to expensive! I won’t be using trans brake or going to track so should last awhile.

    . I want to still use the lunch box so now what do I buy a open load carrier for a 8.6 chevy 10 bolt and put the locker in that ?? Fyi it's my family vehicle and I'm on a budget and time crunch ....

    The weak link in any 88-98 10 bolt is the carrier will break under load. Adding the locker makes sure it will break sooner. On a 12 bolt you dont have that problem.

    • @anthonypesqueira7540
      @anthonypesqueira7540 ปีที่แล้ว

      Change the carrier to a real locker and use C clip eliminators. No need for a 12 bolt.

    Just a question, would it make the install easier to pull the entire differential and install the locker on the bench? I know it's a little more work but would it be better?

    • @alliecatcustoms5808
      @alliecatcustoms5808 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John Hosley honestly, as simple as it is to install the locker, It would take longer to remove and install the axle than it would to install the locker. Unless there is a situation where you can’t easily get to the axle. I’ve rebuilt many axles without a lift, and if you are gonna install gears, I’d put the axle on the bench if I couldn’t easily sit up strait to work on it.

    • @ChrisTheMobileMechanic
      @ChrisTheMobileMechanic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnhosley5468 Do not pull the Differential, its is not a remove and reinstall job, you need specialty tools to reinstall it correctly. Jack the rear end up and just take the 20 mins tops
      to pull the spider gears and install the locker and put it all back together.

    How do you get the c-clips in there too?

    • @AllieCatCustoms
      @AllieCatCustoms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      when you are installing C-clips, you will need to install them right after sliding in the outer gear sections. you slide the gear in, slide the shaft through the gear, install the clip, then pull the axle back out, capturing the clip into the outer gear section, then move on to the next step.

      @AllieCatCustoms  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I explained that I wasn’t running c-clip axles so I couldn’t show you how to install the c-clips. I showed where they go though. But you install the c-clips after you get the side gears, and center pieces in. The clips will slide in through the slots I showed on the center “clutch” gear, and engage the shaft.
      Once you get the c-clips slid in place, you can install the center pin, and that will trap the clips in place. I hope that clears things up!

      Spartan lockers do not require thrust washers/shims they are machined to fit perfectly. Spartan is probably the best lunchbox locker available IMO. Thicker pins ez installation and the springs in the pins aren't exposed as with others like Auburn and Richmond.

    Wouldnt these teeth just wear down from constantly spinning against each other?

    • @alliecatcustoms5808
      @alliecatcustoms5808 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They don’t really spin against each other with enough force to cause damage. When force is applied they lock against each other and don’t slip. The locker in my video has been ran hard in my street strip c10, and you couldn’t even see any wear on the surfaces.
