Hey Brony Notion Now you been I alway Curiosity on what TH-camrs have been doing when they stop making their great video. So what have you been doing anything fun.
It's been kinda hard to take any cannon in the show at face value near the ending seasons. With their ventures into books, comics, etc. it has mostly been a mess as numerous writers have seemed to get away with plot points and details that show no consistency. It can be easily forgiven with earlier seasons as it was utilizing a new style of animation and could easily fault some inconsistencies. Luna's hair was explained as Luna earning forgiveness from the moon sprites she imprisoned in the IDW comics (often shown and confirmed as cannon) and rewarding her with the power, and mane, to help ponies in their dreams as she's not shown using such an ability in her prior rule. Flurry Heart being called the 1st born Allicorn in Equestria's history had met with some backlash as the official 'Diary of the 2 Sisters' conflicted with the 2 sister's origins (though it's since been believed that they meant since Equestria's founding as they were born before it's official founding). It has also swapped Clover's gender as in the diary (not the play) that she's a girl but the later seasons have Clover as male. Mage Meadowbrook has also changed from an eastern-inspired unicorn forger of magic items to a southern-bayou earth pony healer. Sombra was supposed to have been reformed by the brainwashed Radiant Hope and expelled his soul from his Umbrum body and given a unicorn body, with the help of the 4 princesses. The reformed Sombra is currently traveling across Equestria with Radiant Hope to gather the stone remnants of Princess Amore (the original) and resurrect her as a means of atonement. It could be argued that since the earlier Sombra was resurrected by his horn in the comic it could be that either his disposed body/evil or another fracture of his earlier shattered body gave birth to another Sombra. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to change Cadance's origin as an abandoned orphan Pegasus/descendant of Princess Amore who was raised by an Earth Pony village/reformed a corrupted unicorn named Prismia which in turn allowed her to travel to the same Allicorn Plane of Celestia which in turn led to her being turned into an Alllicorn and being adopted as Celestia's royal niece. Since Faust left cannon has been very shaky.

Another add on to this theory- look at Discord and Grogar's eyes. They look really similar. Edit: *after watching series finale: Oh, for Celestia's sake....
I think personally, Discord knows that Grogar is back, but is keeping the information quiet for now. Part II of the season opener, where "his final speech" was given, I think he wanted to give the lesson early on, knowing that King Sombra was not the true threat. Sure, Sombra seemed to be powerful but nevertheless was defeated again. . .yet Grogar is more powerful and manipulative than Sombra, Chrysalis, Tirek, Cozy and Discord all together. Think of it this way, if Discord knows Grogar is back but doesn't want to truly panic Twilight and the mane six. He gives a fake death bed speech that boosts their confidence and shows that the magic has been inside of them all along. What if he knows his chaos cannot stand up to Grogar? If Grogar created him or not created him, I suspect that Grogar can still zap all the chaos out of Discord. I think he knows he'll be at least captured by Grogar during the final battle and is right now teaching Twilight and the Mane Six to not to rely on anybody but themselves to win the war.
This is a cool idea for the final season 9 , too bad the writers suddenly had to make the stupid decision that discord is grogar.ur idea would make for a very interesting season with tension between discord,the mane six and grogar
@@ladyvenusdragon yeah, it would’ve. Sadly, Discord was Grogar xD (acting as him I guess. I loved the idea of Grogar (possibly) meeting his own creation, or just seeing a chaotic villain face-to-face, but it was sort of upsetting that Discord was just acting as Grogar.
Man, all of these hypotheses about Grogar and Discord sound AMAZING, so it's a crying SHAME the finale was so disastrous and that the Grogar in Season 9 wasn't real and we never saw the real him.
I don't believe it would be too dark for the show to have Discord a being Grogar put together to insight chaos. It would answer a few lingering questions.
Though if the comics are taken into consideration, it would be weird to create Discord, a lesser power, and Cosmos, the greater power, to stand as the embodiments of chaos
Although, there is the statement that the show is not consider canon to the comics or is it the comics are not consider canon to the show? Much like how King Sombra role in the comics was different compare to the show.
I got shivers when you talked about Grogar being the only being that Discord TRULY fears. I, like you, doubt that the staff is going to have this deep of a story in mind, but we can always hope that they will do everything in their power to make the finale something to remember, a last grand huzzah and all that. Otherwise, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on FimFiction to see if anyone writes epic stories outlining some of your hypotheses.
Very interesting idea. I have a few theories of my own though. 1. Discord was basically a 'failed experiment' created to be the 'ultimate weapon' in Equestria but instead grew too smart and powerful to be controlled by Grogar or his creator. Since we know that the 'monsters' in Equestria are actually just animals fused together by magic (I mean creatures like Cerberus, Bugbear, Chimera, and Cockatrice), it's probable that Discord was designed to be the ultimate combination of creatures into one, 'perfect' being. After all, he has a bear paw, a dragon/serpentine body, a horse and reptile foot, a goat beard, a bat and pegasus wing, and a bird claw. Fusing that many different creatures into one would definitely have a big effect. It's like the principal of evolution and breeding (with magic). A Chimera is a combination of a tiger, a goat, and a snake. And it gains the ability to have three separate brains that can think and act on their own and it can resist and breathe fire. If those effects are gained by just fusing three creatures, imagine the power one creature could have from over eight different fusion materials. This raises a lot of interesting questions about Discord's existence as well as the laws of magic in Equestria. Magic is pretty complicated in the pony world and I believe I may be close to cracking even more secrets on its' true power. I already managed to figure out how ponies can't use magic to restore manes. (if you want to know more on that, just let me know)
@@izunadara3638 The point being that Chaos is an aspect of reality itself and, like matter, can neither be created nor destroyed. Chaos simply _is._ With the statement that Discord is the "Embodiment of Chaos", it implies that he's a result of the natural world. We know that Discord is not _truly_ chaotic, as he wouldn't be in the "reformed villain" category if he was. But he is an _agent_ of Chaos. Therefore it's more likely that Discord is a natural creature whose role is to be that one mischief maker that's always getting under your skin, but you really can't bring yourself to hate them because that's just how they show they care.
@@DragonxFlutter Though in that case, why did Grogar not do anything about Discord, especially since he'd clearly want to spread chaos in the form of his chaotic lands(there is the argument of Discord knowing such a thing would happen, but then it would be a matter of Grogar hunting him down as he's not one to underestimate)?
@@nameynamd9212 Chaos is neither benevolent nor malevolent. Chaos does as Chaos does. Provided Grogar knew of Discord's existence and knew exactly how to reach him, there's the chance that - even with all his power - he may be unable to control the chosen wielder of Chaos Magic. That's the nature of Chaos. It is not a thing that can be controlled or manipulated. Now I know that statement _does_ call into question how Tirek was able to tempt Discord, but again: Chaos is as Chaos does. Being the Embodiment of Chaos, Discord is likely more prone to make choices that endanger others.
If you notice, in School Raze part 2, Tirek wanted all the magic to be drained so he would never have given up his magic willingly to Twilight. Because of this, Twilight forecfully took Tirek's magic (the magic that made him who he is) to use on the door. I'm sure Tirek is a hybrid creature as well (would be weird considering a centaur is the mix of a human and a horse) and since magic was taken forcefully from him, he did not split into two separate beings but rather just stayed as himself. This might reinforce your theory of what happened to Discord in the season 4 finale.
Actually, I had an hunch since Teriks' episode came out. That he couldn't really use all Discords' magic. My theory had more to do with the nature of his magic though, because even his magic if you think about it. Is by its' very nature choatic and unpredictable. Tirek is not, he maybe evil, but he is level headed and a bit of a strategist. To me absorbing magic and being able to use it to it's full potential are 2 different things. Also, I can't wait to see what they have planned for Grogar. I kind of hope he made Discord. While at the same time, I'm not sure what that would do to the story, because if he showed up before Discord when no one else is around and he was scared of him. Then Grogar could pull some spoiled milk levels of guilt, self-deprivaction, and fear into Discord to possibly secretly make him help with his plans.
I'd be inclined to see him more as a force of nature. But then, that is how the Tree of Harmony seemed before its origins were reviled. (Seriously, things like this are why Ms. Faust wanted a character relationship board and character/story bible in the first place but was given very little room or support on it in the beginning.)
The issue I have with this theory is that it implies that a being of pure chaos and reality bending powers can be created by Grogar but he himself doesn't show that kind of reality altering ability nor does it show that he ever created or attempted to create an army of creatures able to bend reality. It's basically creating a creature stronger than the creator. Which sounds rather farfetched.
Do you think we will see Scorpan before the end of the series? I would love to see Tirek interact with his brother. Especially since Scorpan betrayed Tirek to save ponies, and now Tirek is "making freinds" with Cozy Glow. But more pressingly: If we do get Scorpan, do you think they will have him be linked to how Celestia got Spike's egg? Seriously, all these seasons and all we have to show for it is a "You Are Not The Father" joke in Father Knows Best, and relegation to a "little brother" in Twilight's Seven, rather than her son.
OH MY STARS THERE'S SO MUCH TO BE DONE WITH THIS IDEA I LOVE IT :D Maybe Grogar captured pony Discord for some ritual along with the various other creatures making him up. And Discord being so old that he doesn't even remember any of this; what if upon being split apart he doesn't remember ANYTHING after. This is actually a very interesting question. I never thought of that before, but this makes sense. And maybe the writers will show soon something about Discord's past. That sounds like something they will want to do for the final. There can be many theories about Discord's and Grogar'past. Especially Discord's. He is an old character but for so many seasons we still know almost ANYTHING about his past(except that he brought chaos in Equestria). He just doesn't talk about it. Perhaps he knows the other villains (since he knew Tirek) or has something to do with them in the past. But how did he appeared? And when? This is still question with no answer. Well, I really hope that we'll find out in the upcoming episode ,, Frenemies"(if we get to see some flashback). Or in the final of the show. Who knows? The writers? Well, I guess that for now the only thing we can do is just to wait for what's next, even tho this is very hard...
I always had it in my head that since Discord has an actual species name (Draconequus) that there would reasonably be others like him, other embodiments of cosmic forces, likely having something to do with the two parts of that species name, namely dragons and ponies. I had also figured Harmony (the tree of Harmony) was a draconequus directly in conflict with Discord as a result. Course that headcanon fell by the wayside over time between the Pillars and the tree's portrayal, but still.
I still don't think it would make much sense for Grogar to have created Discord... not unless Grogar is also responsible for the creation of Tirek and the Changelings. Since Discord, like the previously mentioned creatures, is a being from outside of Equestria, its not his home. he's not even from the dimension that Equestria resides in. So if Grogar's creations, as we've seen, all reside within Equestria, it wouldn't make sense for a being from an entirely different dimension to also be his creation.
I think in the finale, it is up to Discord to be the voice of reason for the other bad guys to join up and defeat Grogar. How cool would it be to see all the finale bad guys fighting the ruler of all monsters in the BIG finale?
I have no doubt that Discord and Grogar know each other, Discord may even fear him. But I still can't see Discord as a monster as Disord had been called a spirit rather than a monster or a demon. Again as the Chimera showed, the monsters had base personalities and intelligence but seem to have devolved into beastly natures no different than Animals. Discord is not some beast that hungers via natural instinct. But rather a living expression of chaos it self. But what if another theory is possible my good Doctor. What if in the past Discord and Grogar struck a deal with each other? Grogar teaches Discord to harness his chaos magic and unleashes him on Equestria causing the Chaos that Discord unleashed when he was first sealed intending to use it to reestablish his Empire. When Discord was sealed it Fubard the plan and Discord was released and reformed by Fluttershy he abandoned the idea of working with Grogar again. This also a good theory and might explain why Grogar sought new minions in the form of Sombra, Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow.
I have a theory. What if Grogar and Discord are brothers. I mean like two of a few members of some ancient elder brotherhood or smt. They both are very powerfull, skilled ancient beings, they both represent their own nature-law like element. Element of Chaos goes to Discord and element of Death for Grogar (he is necromancer in G1 afterall). Also they both have yellow colored eyes with red pupils as you mentioned!
Tom Reis: well. Because Grogar's bell is a bell. I guess I'm just confused on where you're coming from. Are you saying that Grogar's bell was turned into a draconaquis? (I butchered that spelling.)
@@shadowspector3611 well it's just a theory. The way I see it, the bell was an item of such magical power that Grogar had to go into hiding after losing it. Perhaps, after being separatedfrom it's master it tried to turn itself into a more mobile form, bit after becoming Discord he forgot about Grogar. Plus, Bells are sometimes assosiated with chaos.
@@Kayjoir It's a cool thought and I love the idea of the show coming full circle, introducing Discord and having people realize that he is the key to the ultimate villain's plans but I don't see how Hasbro could justify a bell becoming a living thing like Discord. (Then again, Discord's magic has been known to bring life to teapots so maybe.)
If think Grogar being Discord's creator is possible, even likely - but I don't know... I've always had this impression that Discord belongs to another dimension, the chaos realm where his house is. The idea that he was created out of many different animals is interesting though. We'll see what the writers have in mind.
If what Tirek mentions about Grogar's involvements in Equestria's origins, it might be that Grogar is sole reason for the way Equestria is, including all types of magic, and is the root of everything, monster or not, from his magic alone(from how they mention him, it also makes him seem to be from another dimension/universe)
I really like this idea. And the thing with Grogar creating the monsters to terrorize ponies goes well with my own theory that the entire Equuis Sapien species were originally humans, but were turned into ponies by Grogar in an initial attempt to dissuade them from challenging his rule (especially with splitting them into three races with the intent cause internal division). Now obviously Grogar himself would have had some reason or cause to turn into the goat-creature that he is, but regardless, I think that once the humans -> ponies method did not work as well as he thought, then he turned to creating the monsters to terrorize ponies and possibly outright try to stop them from trying to put an end to his reign.
I just can't get enough of these theories! I love Discord SOOO much!!! AND I've been also wondering about his origins too, and with Grogar back, I want to see if he actually created Discord or not. I wanna see Discord really afraid, because I care.😅 More of these theories please! Hope to see them become true in the other half of season 9.
Have you ever read any of the comic books? There's a comic book arc that hints that Discord was most likely created by the natural disorder that occurs in the mlp universe, like Supernovas, Black Holes, or even meteorites.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Dr. Wolf! The series may have concluded, but I still find the ideas in this video very interesting. ^_^ I recently had some ideas about this topic. Maybe I'll make my own post about them later if I get the chance. I think Grogar could have been experimenting with ways for a sapient being to hold and control large quantities of magic without transforming uncontrollably or losing themselves like Tirek, Sunset Shimmer, Sci-Twi, and Cozy Glow. Maybe Grogar wanted to safely store stolen magic in his own body and created the Bewitching Bell as a working but temporary solution. Discord could have been an unexpected or intentional result of Grogar's project. If that were the case, Grogar might want to study Discord to see how his body and powerful magic work. Another idea is that Grogar might have been responsible for some of the magic seen in the show: Tirek's ability to drain magic, Chrysalis's magic-absorbing throne, and Cozy Glow's magic-eating spell. Don't they seem awfully similar to Grogar's bell? They easily could have been the bell's predecessors. The throne in particular might be an unfinished prototype for the bell. Just a thought.

Emperors, by nature, seek order so they can better maintain control, not chaos. Therefor, it is unlikely that Grogar would willingly introduce a chaotic element like Discord into his own empire. I still suspect Discord was originally Grogar's Bell, and turned into a living being by Gutsy to hide the bell from Grogar.

About Discord´s TRUE (meta) origins: . He was named "Big Baddy" by Lauren Faust (the name of "Discordia" was originally reserved for the *Pilot Movie* Villain [ Nightmare Moon ], as a natural opposite force for the "Fragments of Harmony" that were spread through the ruins/wilderness of the pony world [ Everfree Forest]. . Lauren´s first drawings of him (Discord the Draco_equus ) feature him teasing "Twilight" (not "Twilight Sparkle", technically speaking), circa 2008, before her colaborations with Amy Keating Rogers for the "Bible of the Show" [with a short "bio" about him that include things that were not used by Larson on "The Return of Harmony" (for lack of screentime), but neither retconned]. -> Josh Haber seems to be following the data on this old "secret biography" (instead of following Larson & McCarthy´s implied alternate takes on him), given some lines he said on the S6 finale.
One thing I've seen that people are pointing out against this theory that wasn't brought up is Discord is chaos itself so shouldn't he be far older than Grogar? But I have a maybe argument for that. Maybe Grogar wanted to harness chaos itself and so made a construct to do so, enter Discord. So he can continue spreading fear and havoc. Chaos as a force can still exist, and Discord being a physical form of it can come later on when Grogar steps in.
This especially makes sense if what Tirek says about Grogar in The Beginning of the End is true and Grogar was responsible for Equestria existing how it does, making him older than all living beings in it.
What if discord is the pony who went against Grogar??? What if he knew that he had to attempt something massive and, knowing that it might affect his overall personality, Using the same technique that Grogar used to fuse each animal. And he used the element of chaos to do so.
Two things: 1) It is pronounced: *"TAR-ta_**__ruhs"_*_ (not _"tar-TAurh_rus"_ ). 2) The MLP:FIM Special "Rainbow Roadtrip" made the "categories of magic" official: a) *"Arcana"* = Magic of Unicorns ; ("stored" on spells, enchantments, potions and artifacts). -> This is the ONLY type of magic the SEAL of Cozy Glow could drain. . b) *"Elemental"* = Magic of Pegasi [Air] ; (also the magic of Dragons & the Chimera [Fire]). . . c) *"Etherial"* = _Magic of Spirits_ ; The "fusion magic" Twilight took from the monsters (this is likely to be the magic Twilight acquired on the "Celestial Realm" that made her an alicorn). Posibly also the magic contained in the Tree of Harmony. Tirek can only drain magic (Arcana & Elemental) from "living creatures"; meaning he can not summon ghosts like Grogar did with Sombra (or manipulate the essence of "undead plants" like the Timberwolves), neither drain the monsters in Tartarus like Twilight did [an "alicorn_only" feature like making the "watching the past" white potion] or take the magic out of the Tree of Harmony (it is technically an A.I. crystal machine). Discord "Chaos Magic" is just a negative/reversed version of *Arcana* (what Tirek absorbed). Discord´s existence in The Realm of Equestria is kept by his *Etherial* magic (this is why Starlight´s "banishment" spell only affected his physical body, but not his *Spirit* ).
Grogar might be indeed the only being that Discord really fears, although, don't forget Cosmos, which I hope it will be cannon within the series, probably on a second movie maybe.
I would like to think that Discord was created by Grogar as a weapon to pave the way for his return. But then Celestia and Luna turned him to stone before Grogar came out to reclaim his throne. Then he goes back into hiding because he is no mach for the Elements of Harmony.
Well, whether it's willing or not, the animals gave the last bit that held them together. Tireck might not have been able to access that. And maybe it's only accessible if given freely. MLP never created a very hard magic system like in Fullmetal Alchemist. There's is a very soft system, where there are more possibilities. But that risks having less logic and more contradictions.
My theory is a little different. What if its the other way around Discord has the power to open portals into other realities and even create them. He also stated that he`s centuries and millennia old. what if Discord created the reality along with all the beings that reside in it including his own role and then Grogar created those beasts. He let Starlight physically banish him from the school of friendship so it's not outside the realm of possibility that he also let both the princesses and the main six imprison him in stone and that he`s just playing along.
When you mentioned that Discord's base is a pony, it makes me think of a similar case of how Alicorns are created by earning it (Not counting FlurryHeart). So it makes me wonder if Discord earned that chaotic transformation from Grogar in a different way.
I actually had this exact same theory the other day. Who knows? Maybe if he becomes a pony again at the end, he and Shy could fall in love and maybe start a family. That would be amazing.
He doesn’t have to become a pony in order to have a relationship with fluttershy. But either way, I’m pretty sure the writers will keep the mane 6 single
This fits in to my headcanon. Thanks Doc! Though for the pony part of the theory, perhaps Discord was a willing pony soldier who went into the transformation process to ensure Grogar's reign but Gusty the Great came made Grogar go away. So hypothetically, Discord, being one of his more powerful creations, was able to escape and hid away or exiled as well for very long time. Perhaps that could have been a long enough time for him to maybe explore his own power? Being so entangled with his own individuality that he, in turn forgets what or who gave him such magic? Maybe he started small then went big when the time came? That should very well explain why Discord barely talks about his past because he keeps thinking to move forward instead of just settling back entirely because e can't last if he does. Who knows? The writers. Of course the writers do.
Would discord's pony form be someone significant though? Was he a figure forgotten in history or just a random pony grogar kidnapped for his experiment
Yeah, I have a hard time buying that. Great fanfic fuel, but I'm pretty sure that Discord's fading in "Discordant Harmony" has more to do with his very nature as the Spirit of Chaos and Disharmony.

Here's a theory I thought about. What if Grogar is the reason Griffonstone is in poverty. The reason is Grogar was the first emperor of Equestria and all he saw. But if you look at the map Griffonstone isn't part of equestria its on a separate continent. So its possible for griffons to be around during his reign and maybe they were prosperous. Grogar saw the griffons as rivals so he created the monster you see in "lost Treasure of Griffonstone" to steal their idol of Boreas and crumble the Griffon kingdom.
I think your theory could be right and in my mind for season 9 finaly i have this. Grogar will over power mane six and Tirek probably will get their magic and let's say Grogar will want to hurt Fluttershy and Discord would fight with Grogar to save her but he will fail and when Grogar hurts Fluttershy Discord would give up his magic to save her or something like that. And Discord would disappear and then there will be fight and when they defeat Grogar he will appear as a pony. I know it souds crazy and MLP won't go that direction but i think it's interesting to think about it.
Nice fanfiction there. I personally like to imagine that Grogar will somehow be able to control Discord's behaviour, and by knowing that, Discord would give up on his form and go back to a pony so his power wouldn't be used against Fluttershy.
sorry doc, but i can't believe this theory, Discord himself said says that he is the ''spirit of chaos and disharmony'' he is not a monster in the first place, he is the forces of chaos taken a solid form, he is the god of chaos and there is no way a god is younger then the first ruler
But we shouldn't take everything that Discord says literally. Discord also said that the mane 6 are the embodiments of the elements, and that Twilight is, and always was, the embodiment of magic.

He says that Twilight is, and always was, the embodiment of magic, even though magic has been around a lot longer than she has.

I'm not saying that this theory is right, I'm just saying that this theory isn't disproven because Discord called himself the embodiment of chaos. That would be like saying that Twilight is over 1000 years old because Discord said that she was the embodiment of magic.
what if discord was grogar and hew gather all the triek, cozy glow and etc to teach them friendship and that would explain why he didn't notice the bell because it isn't his magic the bell belonged to the real grogar who knows
In fact, Grogar could have actually existed but Discord decided to turn himself into Grogar for his plan. But, how did he knew where Grogar's bell was? with all the spells there was there. But, I partially agree with you.

Correction on FF3. I know you meant 6, but it's not your fault, it was renamed for the US release. That was the Espers dying. That's why Kefka was able to turn a bunch of Espers into Magicite when he fought them head on. The empire didn't know you had to KILL the espers to take their magic properly. Magicite is an espers corpse. You are basically hauling around crystalized dead bodies and drawing magic from them. Your analogy still stands though! If you do something one way, you get an imperfect draw. If you do it the RIGHT way, you get a complete draw. Plus, the idea of Discord being SCARED of someone is just too juicy not to want to see. He wasn't exactly INTIMIDATED by Sombra after all.
in the final send off you see discord was Grogar so Grogar might not be alive but dose not mean grogar did or did not make discord but i sill think the brony notion is right

I alway Curiosity on what TH-camrs have been doing when they stop making their great video. So what have you been doing anything fun.
It's been kinda hard to take any cannon in the show at face value near the ending seasons. With their ventures into books, comics, etc. it has mostly been a mess as numerous writers have seemed to get away with plot points and details that show no consistency. It can be easily forgiven with earlier seasons as it was utilizing a new style of animation and could easily fault some inconsistencies. Luna's hair was explained as Luna earning forgiveness from the moon sprites she imprisoned in the IDW comics (often shown and confirmed as cannon) and rewarding her with the power, and mane, to help ponies in their dreams as she's not shown using such an ability in her prior rule. Flurry Heart being called the 1st born Allicorn in Equestria's history had met with some backlash as the official 'Diary of the 2 Sisters' conflicted with the 2 sister's origins (though it's since been believed that they meant since Equestria's founding as they were born before it's official founding). It has also swapped Clover's gender as in the diary (not the play) that she's a girl but the later seasons have Clover as male. Mage Meadowbrook has also changed from an eastern-inspired unicorn forger of magic items to a southern-bayou earth pony healer. Sombra was supposed to have been reformed by the brainwashed Radiant Hope and expelled his soul from his Umbrum body and given a unicorn body, with the help of the 4 princesses. The reformed Sombra is currently traveling across Equestria with Radiant Hope to gather the stone remnants of Princess Amore (the original) and resurrect her as a means of atonement. It could be argued that since the earlier Sombra was resurrected by his horn in the comic it could be that either his disposed body/evil or another fracture of his earlier shattered body gave birth to another Sombra. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to change Cadance's origin as an abandoned orphan Pegasus/descendant of Princess Amore who was raised by an Earth Pony village/reformed a corrupted unicorn named Prismia which in turn allowed her to travel to the same Allicorn Plane of Celestia which in turn led to her being turned into an Alllicorn and being adopted as Celestia's royal niece. Since Faust left cannon has been very shaky.

I think personally, Discord knows that Grogar is back, but is keeping the information quiet for now. Part II of the season opener, where "his final speech" was given, I think he wanted to give the lesson early on, knowing that King Sombra was not the true threat. Sure, Sombra seemed to be powerful but nevertheless was defeated again. . .yet Grogar is more powerful and manipulative than Sombra, Chrysalis, Tirek, Cozy and Discord all together.
Think of it this way, if Discord knows Grogar is back but doesn't want to truly panic Twilight and the mane six. He gives a fake death bed speech that boosts their confidence and shows that the magic has been inside of them all along. What if he knows his chaos cannot stand up to Grogar? If Grogar created him or not created him, I suspect that Grogar can still zap all the chaos out of Discord. I think he knows he'll be at least captured by Grogar during the final battle and is right now teaching Twilight and the Mane Six to not to rely on anybody but themselves to win the war.
This is a cool idea for the final season 9 , too bad the writers suddenly had to make the stupid decision that discord is grogar.ur idea would make for a very interesting season with tension between discord,the mane six and grogar

Man, all of these hypotheses about Grogar and Discord sound AMAZING, so it's a crying SHAME the finale was so disastrous and that the Grogar in Season 9 wasn't real and we never saw the real him.
I don't believe it would be too dark for the show to have Discord a being Grogar put together to insight chaos. It would answer a few lingering questions.
Though if the comics are taken into consideration, it would be weird to create Discord, a lesser power, and Cosmos, the greater power, to stand as the embodiments of chaos

I got shivers when you talked about Grogar being the only being that Discord TRULY fears. I, like you, doubt that the staff is going to have this deep of a story in mind, but we can always hope that they will do everything in their power to make the finale something to remember, a last grand huzzah and all that. Otherwise, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on FimFiction to see if anyone writes epic stories outlining some of your hypotheses.
Very interesting idea. I have a few theories of my own though.
1. Discord was basically a 'failed experiment' created to be the 'ultimate weapon' in Equestria but instead grew too smart and powerful to be controlled by Grogar or his creator. Since we know that the 'monsters' in Equestria are actually just animals fused together by magic (I mean creatures like Cerberus, Bugbear, Chimera, and Cockatrice), it's probable that Discord was designed to be the ultimate combination of creatures into one, 'perfect' being. After all, he has a bear paw, a dragon/serpentine body, a horse and reptile foot, a goat beard, a bat and pegasus wing, and a bird claw. Fusing that many different creatures into one would definitely have a big effect. It's like the principal of evolution and breeding (with magic). A Chimera is a combination of a tiger, a goat, and a snake. And it gains the ability to have three separate brains that can think and act on their own and it can resist and breathe fire. If those effects are gained by just fusing three creatures, imagine the power one creature could have from over eight different fusion materials. This raises a lot of interesting questions about Discord's existence as well as the laws of magic in Equestria. Magic is pretty complicated in the pony world and I believe I may be close to cracking even more secrets on its' true power. I already managed to figure out how ponies can't use magic to restore manes. (if you want to know more on that, just let me know)

The point being that Chaos is an aspect of reality itself and, like matter, can neither be created nor destroyed. Chaos simply _is._
With the statement that Discord is the "Embodiment of Chaos", it implies that he's a result of the natural world. We know that Discord is not _truly_ chaotic, as he wouldn't be in the "reformed villain" category if he was. But he is an _agent_ of Chaos.
Therefore it's more likely that Discord is a natural creature whose role is to be that one mischief maker that's always getting under your skin, but you really can't bring yourself to hate them because that's just how they show they care.

Chaos is neither benevolent nor malevolent. Chaos does as Chaos does.
Provided Grogar knew of Discord's existence and knew exactly how to reach him, there's the chance that - even with all his power - he may be unable to control the chosen wielder of Chaos Magic. That's the nature of Chaos. It is not a thing that can be controlled or manipulated.
Now I know that statement _does_ call into question how Tirek was able to tempt Discord, but again: Chaos is as Chaos does. Being the Embodiment of Chaos, Discord is likely more prone to make choices that endanger others.
If you notice, in School Raze part 2, Tirek wanted all the magic to be drained so he would never have given up his magic willingly to Twilight. Because of this, Twilight forecfully took Tirek's magic (the magic that made him who he is) to use on the door. I'm sure Tirek is a hybrid creature as well (would be weird considering a centaur is the mix of a human and a horse) and since magic was taken forcefully from him, he did not split into two separate beings but rather just stayed as himself. This might reinforce your theory of what happened to Discord in the season 4 finale.
Tirek is not from equestria though, so... the rules might be a bit weird for him

Actually, I had an hunch since Teriks' episode came out. That he couldn't really use all Discords' magic. My theory had more to do with the nature of his magic though, because even his magic if you think about it. Is by its' very nature choatic and unpredictable. Tirek is not, he maybe evil, but he is level headed and a bit of a strategist. To me absorbing magic and being able to use it to it's full potential are 2 different things.
Also, I can't wait to see what they have planned for Grogar. I kind of hope he made Discord. While at the same time, I'm not sure what that would do to the story, because if he showed up before Discord when no one else is around and he was scared of him. Then Grogar could pull some spoiled milk levels of guilt, self-deprivaction, and fear into Discord to possibly secretly make him help with his plans.
I'd be inclined to see him more as a force of nature. But then, that is how the Tree of Harmony seemed before its origins were reviled. (Seriously, things like this are why Ms. Faust wanted a character relationship board and character/story bible in the first place but was given very little room or support on it in the beginning.)
The issue I have with this theory is that it implies that a being of pure chaos and reality bending powers can be created by Grogar but he himself doesn't show that kind of reality altering ability nor does it show that he ever created or attempted to create an army of creatures able to bend reality. It's basically creating a creature stronger than the creator. Which sounds rather farfetched.
Do you think we will see Scorpan before the end of the series? I would love to see Tirek interact with his brother. Especially since Scorpan betrayed Tirek to save ponies, and now Tirek is "making freinds" with Cozy Glow.
But more pressingly: If we do get Scorpan, do you think they will have him be linked to how Celestia got Spike's egg? Seriously, all these seasons and all we have to show for it is a "You Are Not The Father" joke in Father Knows Best, and relegation to a "little brother" in Twilight's Seven, rather than her son.

And Discord being so old that he doesn't even remember any of this; what if upon being split apart he doesn't remember ANYTHING after. This is actually a very interesting question. I never thought of that before, but this makes sense. And maybe the writers will show soon something about Discord's past. That sounds like something they will want to do for the final. There can be many theories about Discord's and Grogar'past. Especially Discord's. He is an old character but for so many seasons we still know almost ANYTHING about his past(except that he brought chaos in Equestria). He just doesn't talk about it. Perhaps he knows the other villains (since he knew Tirek) or has something to do with them in the past. But how did he appeared? And when? This is still question with no answer. Well, I really hope that we'll find out in the upcoming episode ,, Frenemies"(if we get to see some flashback). Or in the final of the show. Who knows? The writers? Well, I guess that for now the only thing we can do is just to wait for what's next, even tho this is very hard...
I always had it in my head that since Discord has an actual species name (Draconequus) that there would reasonably be others like him, other embodiments of cosmic forces, likely having something to do with the two parts of that species name, namely dragons and ponies. I had also figured Harmony (the tree of Harmony) was a draconequus directly in conflict with Discord as a result. Course that headcanon fell by the wayside over time between the Pillars and the tree's portrayal, but still.

I still don't think it would make much sense for Grogar to have created Discord... not unless Grogar is also responsible for the creation of Tirek and the Changelings.
Since Discord, like the previously mentioned creatures, is a being from outside of Equestria, its not his home. he's not even from the dimension that Equestria resides in.
So if Grogar's creations, as we've seen, all reside within Equestria, it wouldn't make sense for a being from an entirely different dimension to also be his creation.
I think in the finale, it is up to Discord to be the voice of reason for the other bad guys to join up and defeat Grogar. How cool would it be to see all the finale bad guys fighting the ruler of all monsters in the BIG finale?
You may have just given me a great story plot idea...
I have no doubt that Discord and Grogar know each other, Discord may even fear him. But I still can't see Discord as a monster as Disord had been called a spirit rather than a monster or a demon. Again as the Chimera showed, the monsters had base personalities and intelligence but seem to have devolved into beastly natures no different than Animals.
Discord is not some beast that hungers via natural instinct. But rather a living expression of chaos it self. But what if another theory is possible my good Doctor.
What if in the past Discord and Grogar struck a deal with each other? Grogar teaches Discord to harness his chaos magic and unleashes him on Equestria causing the Chaos that Discord unleashed when he was first sealed intending to use it to reestablish his Empire. When Discord was sealed it Fubard the plan and Discord was released and reformed by Fluttershy he abandoned the idea of working with Grogar again. This also a good theory and might explain why Grogar sought new minions in the form of Sombra, Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow.
I have a theory. What if Grogar and Discord are brothers. I mean like two of a few members of some ancient elder brotherhood or smt. They both are very powerfull, skilled ancient beings, they both represent their own nature-law like element. Element of Chaos goes to Discord and element of Death for Grogar (he is necromancer in G1 afterall). Also they both have yellow colored eyes with red pupils as you mentioned!

Perhaps, after being separatedfrom it's master it tried to turn itself into a more mobile form, bit after becoming Discord he forgot about Grogar.
Plus, Bells are sometimes assosiated with chaos.

(Then again, Discord's magic has been known to bring life to teapots so maybe.)
If think Grogar being Discord's creator is possible, even likely - but I don't know... I've always had this impression that Discord belongs to another dimension, the chaos realm where his house is. The idea that he was created out of many different animals is interesting though. We'll see what the writers have in mind.
If what Tirek mentions about Grogar's involvements in Equestria's origins, it might be that Grogar is sole reason for the way Equestria is, including all types of magic, and is the root of everything, monster or not, from his magic alone(from how they mention him, it also makes him seem to be from another dimension/universe)

And the thing with Grogar creating the monsters to terrorize ponies goes well with my own theory that the entire Equuis Sapien species were originally humans, but were turned into ponies by Grogar in an initial attempt to dissuade them from challenging his rule (especially with splitting them into three races with the intent cause internal division). Now obviously Grogar himself would have had some reason or cause to turn into the goat-creature that he is, but regardless, I think that once the humans -> ponies method did not work as well as he thought, then he turned to creating the monsters to terrorize ponies and possibly outright try to stop them from trying to put an end to his reign.
I just can't get enough of these theories!

Have you ever read any of the comic books? There's a comic book arc that hints that Discord was most likely created by the natural disorder that occurs in the mlp universe, like Supernovas, Black Holes, or even meteorites.

I recently had some ideas about this topic. Maybe I'll make my own post about them later if I get the chance.
I think Grogar could have been experimenting with ways for a sapient being to hold and control large quantities of magic without transforming uncontrollably or losing themselves like Tirek, Sunset Shimmer, Sci-Twi, and Cozy Glow. Maybe Grogar wanted to safely store stolen magic in his own body and created the Bewitching Bell as a working but temporary solution. Discord could have been an unexpected or intentional result of Grogar's project. If that were the case, Grogar might want to study Discord to see how his body and powerful magic work.
Another idea is that Grogar might have been responsible for some of the magic seen in the show: Tirek's ability to drain magic, Chrysalis's magic-absorbing throne, and Cozy Glow's magic-eating spell. Don't they seem awfully similar to Grogar's bell? They easily could have been the bell's predecessors. The throne in particular might be an unfinished prototype for the bell. Just a thought.

Emperors, by nature, seek order so they can better maintain control, not chaos. Therefor, it is unlikely that Grogar would willingly introduce a chaotic element like Discord into his own empire.
I still suspect Discord was originally Grogar's Bell, and turned into a living being by Gutsy to hide the bell from Grogar.

About Discord´s TRUE (meta) origins:
. He was named "Big Baddy" by Lauren Faust (the name of "Discordia" was originally reserved for the *Pilot Movie* Villain [ Nightmare Moon ], as a natural opposite force for the "Fragments of Harmony" that were spread through the ruins/wilderness of the pony world [ Everfree Forest].
. Lauren´s first drawings of him (Discord the Draco_equus ) feature him teasing "Twilight" (not "Twilight Sparkle", technically speaking), circa 2008, before her colaborations with Amy Keating Rogers for the "Bible of the Show" [with a short "bio" about him that include things that were not used by Larson on "The Return of Harmony" (for lack of screentime), but neither retconned].
-> Josh Haber seems to be following the data on this old "secret biography" (instead of following Larson & McCarthy´s implied alternate takes on him), given some lines he said on the S6 finale.
One thing I've seen that people are pointing out against this theory that wasn't brought up is Discord is chaos itself so shouldn't he be far older than Grogar? But I have a maybe argument for that.
Maybe Grogar wanted to harness chaos itself and so made a construct to do so, enter Discord. So he can continue spreading fear and havoc. Chaos as a force can still exist, and Discord being a physical form of it can come later on when Grogar steps in.
This especially makes sense if what Tirek says about Grogar in The Beginning of the End is true and Grogar was responsible for Equestria existing how it does, making him older than all living beings in it.
What if discord is the pony who went against Grogar??? What if he knew that he had to attempt something massive and, knowing that it might affect his overall personality, Using the same technique that Grogar used to fuse each animal. And he used the element of chaos to do so.
I still think Discord is this "Dusty" character that Chrysalis mentioned. Or Discord might be Grogars brother.

2) The MLP:FIM Special "Rainbow Roadtrip" made the "categories of magic" official:
a) *"Arcana"* = Magic of Unicorns ; ("stored" on spells, enchantments, potions and artifacts).
-> This is the ONLY type of magic the SEAL of Cozy Glow could drain.
. b) *"Elemental"* = Magic of Pegasi [Air] ; (also the magic of Dragons & the Chimera [Fire]).
. . c) *"Etherial"* = _Magic of Spirits_ ; The "fusion magic" Twilight took from the monsters (this is likely to be the magic Twilight acquired on the "Celestial Realm" that made her an alicorn). Posibly also the magic contained in the Tree of Harmony.
Tirek can only drain magic (Arcana & Elemental) from "living creatures"; meaning he can not summon ghosts like Grogar did with Sombra (or manipulate the essence of "undead plants" like the Timberwolves), neither drain the monsters in Tartarus like Twilight did [an "alicorn_only" feature like making the "watching the past" white potion] or take the magic out of the Tree of Harmony (it is technically an A.I. crystal machine).
Discord "Chaos Magic" is just a negative/reversed version of *Arcana* (what Tirek absorbed).
Discord´s existence in The Realm of Equestria is kept by his *Etherial* magic (this is why Starlight´s "banishment" spell only affected his physical body, but not his *Spirit* ).
The show has been dark before. Remember those ponies who turned into trees?
That's my theory, Discord was a pony who tried taking ON Grogar and was defeated and turned into the creature of chaos and fun he is today.
Grogar might be indeed the only being that Discord really fears, although, don't forget Cosmos, which I hope it will be cannon within the series, probably on a second movie maybe.

I would like to think that Discord was created by Grogar as a weapon to pave the way for his return. But then Celestia and Luna turned him to stone before Grogar came out to reclaim his throne. Then he goes back into hiding because he is no mach for the Elements of Harmony.
Well, whether it's willing or not, the animals gave the last bit that held them together. Tireck might not have been able to access that. And maybe it's only accessible if given freely. MLP never created a very hard magic system like in Fullmetal Alchemist. There's is a very soft system, where there are more possibilities. But that risks having less logic and more contradictions.
My theory is a little different.

what if Discord created the reality along with all the beings that reside in it including his own role and then Grogar created those beasts.
He let Starlight physically banish him from the school of friendship so it's not outside the realm of possibility that he also let both the princesses and the main six imprison him in stone and that he`s just playing along.
I love Discord's (and Princess's and Equestria in general) backstory from the Exchange by getmeouttahere.
When you mentioned that Discord's base is a pony, it makes me think of a similar case of how Alicorns are created by earning it (Not counting FlurryHeart). So it makes me wonder if Discord earned that chaotic transformation from Grogar in a different way.
But if discord has reformed to join the ponies and gave up on using his chaotic magic should he have disappeared Too?
I think it might be interesting if Discords base form was actually Bray.

This fits in to my headcanon. Thanks Doc! Though for the pony part of the theory, perhaps Discord was a willing pony soldier who went into the transformation process to ensure Grogar's reign but Gusty the Great came made Grogar go away. So hypothetically, Discord, being one of his more powerful creations, was able to escape and hid away or exiled as well for very long time. Perhaps that could have been a long enough time for him to maybe explore his own power? Being so entangled with his own individuality that he, in turn forgets what or who gave him such magic? Maybe he started small then went big when the time came? That should very well explain why Discord barely talks about his past because he keeps thinking to move forward instead of just settling back entirely because e can't last if he does.

Yeah, I have a hard time buying that. Great fanfic fuel, but I'm pretty sure that Discord's fading in "Discordant Harmony" has more to do with his very nature as the Spirit of Chaos and Disharmony.

Here's a theory I thought about. What if Grogar is the reason Griffonstone is in poverty. The reason is Grogar was the first emperor of Equestria and all he saw. But if you look at the map Griffonstone isn't part of equestria its on a separate continent. So its possible for griffons to be around during his reign and maybe they were prosperous. Grogar saw the griffons as rivals so he created the monster you see in "lost Treasure of Griffonstone" to steal their idol of Boreas and crumble the Griffon kingdom.

I think your theory could be right and in my mind for season 9 finaly i have this. Grogar will over power mane six and Tirek probably will get their magic and let's say Grogar will want to hurt Fluttershy and Discord would fight with Grogar to save her but he will fail and when Grogar hurts Fluttershy Discord would give up his magic to save her or something like that. And Discord would disappear and then there will be fight and when they defeat Grogar he will appear as a pony. I know it souds crazy and MLP won't go that direction but i think it's interesting to think about it.
Nice fanfiction there. I personally like to imagine that Grogar will somehow be able to control Discord's behaviour, and by knowing that, Discord would give up on his form and go back to a pony so his power wouldn't be used against Fluttershy.

But we shouldn't take everything that Discord says literally. Discord also said that the mane 6 are the embodiments of the elements, and that Twilight is, and always was, the embodiment of magic.

Correction on FF3. I know you meant 6, but it's not your fault, it was renamed for the US release.
That was the Espers dying. That's why Kefka was able to turn a bunch of Espers into Magicite when he fought them head on. The empire didn't know you had to KILL the espers to take their magic properly. Magicite is an espers corpse. You are basically hauling around crystalized dead bodies and drawing magic from them.
Your analogy still stands though! If you do something one way, you get an imperfect draw. If you do it the RIGHT way, you get a complete draw. Plus, the idea of Discord being SCARED of someone is just too juicy not to want to see. He wasn't exactly INTIMIDATED by Sombra after all.
