I’m not sure if anyone noticed this, but Twilight tried to use her magic to teleport out of the cage, but her magic was absorbed by it. It’s an interesting detail they included. This implies that there’s some kind of force field in the cage, and she likely wouldn’t have been able to walk out either.

It's so weird that they used random anthropomorphic animals that look like they're in the wrong movie rather than just creating new pony characters. Like, there's so many ways to make pony characters look good
They could have done something like adding horses and other hoofed animals outside of the pony domain. You know, like the actual series in the later seasons?

my favourite part of the movie is the part where discord realised fluttershy was in trouble and the movie was two minutes long
Fluttershy was never in direct danger, Twilight was. The most Discord would've done is ferry Flutters away somewhere.

I seriously missed Discord in the movie. I flipped out when I saw him in the ending credits but admittedly I was like "YOU WERE AROUND THE WHOLE TIME AND YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!?"

I personally liked the part where the guards spotting giant slow moving zeppelin coming their way the second it crossed into equestrain borders causing them to put up the giant city wide force field that they used during the crystal kingdom invasion.

I think it was an okay/good film for the fanbase; the animation was amazing, the visuals and most of the songs were great and it had wholesome moments.
However if I have to mention my biggest problem with the film is that it tries to cover too much and barely touchs upon it. Many of the new characters, except for Tempest, felt like they weren't necessary at all (like the Pirate crew) or were very underdeveloped such as the Hypogriffs. The movie could've felt less bloated if they had focused more on Capper's attempt to redeem himself and then focus straight to the Hypogriffs story rather than use them as a plot device (according to Tootsie they were going to show up at the final battle but for some reason it got removed from the script).
Also its frustrating how they treat the Princesses as pushovers (in filler anime movies they also do this with characters that are powerhouses).
The Hippogriffs get more screen time and development in the show, which tells us the movie is in fact canon. But the only thing mentioned about it is the storm king and his defeat.
my big issue is that the movie is clearly canon considering the ramifications later on in the series, but the way the avoid the previous source material was a bit sad to see, especially when I first saw it. Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie, but a lot of the movie felt like it had nothing to do with the world we'd previously established! Even a lot of the characters felt off
@@Abu_ATCexactly, the whole film felt rushed and over ambitious and yet all of season 8-9 and much of the post 2017 comics depended upon it for lore, so it's not like something a new fan of MLP can ignore

1. So Celesta raises and lowers the sun and Luna raises and lowers the moon so how does it become day and night while they can't do anything?
2. They could've used the elements of harmony and the "pOwEr oF fRiEnDsHiP" to defeat the storm king

Alright, the first one is a genuine good point.
But you have to remember that at this point the elements of harmony haven't been used for 3 seasons(this came out after season 7 but before 8 and they haven't used them since the end of 4 i believe). It'd be really weird to just shoehorn them in like this after they haven't been used by the main show in so long which is a good thing because they were kinda boring. Solving every major problem just like that would kill the narrative.
As for the Tempest song, i do think it can be explained due to her being outside of Equestria for most of her life(after her horn broke till when the movie happened) and therefore not really being used to speaking with/for ponies.
@@dudu28r81 iirc in S7 they took the elements to try and banish Stygian but Twilight was worried and looked into an alternative. Ironically it was Starlight Glimmer who found the actual alternative. Though given how the Cutie Map works it was pretty obvious what they were supposed to do. Kinda sad how the one who was still figuring out friendship knew what was going on over the literal princess

The biggest sin in this movie was the fact that Sia was in this movie at all, knowing her disaster of an autism movie "Music", and the fact that she groomed a child just to make said autism movie happen.
This mlp movie was made for and by people who don't care abt mlp as a show: the characters act out of character so that the situation is dire (esp the other princesses and twilight), the stories behind other races are ignored, and strengths from the show are ignored

That wasn't why tempest helped the storm king, she defeated the princesses because she wanted their magic to restore her horn and The Storm King promised her that, her giving up on friendship was just a way for her to look down on twilight and her friends, it wasn't her main purpose for doing what she did. Though that doesn't justify it, because logic in this movie apparently doesn't exist, instead of her asking the princesses to heal her horn she defeats them and hands them over to a knock off, powerless version of discord because for some reason everybody is scared of the storm king even though he's not threatening in the slightest, tempest did all of the work and he has no power, just the staff that he didn't even gain on his own, and his goons are so easy to beat that the fight scene between them and twilights friends was just corny and lame.
sorry ik this comment is 4yrs old but i kinda interpretted her backstory waaay different. tempest is disabled, i dont think thats up for debate tbh, or it shouldnt be. it wasnt just that some ponies were a liiitttle mean to her, i personally believe she was vulnerable from the start, its not canon but to me it seems like she was trying really hard to connect with the others going as far as to venture into a dangerous cave alone just to retrieve a ball. and do we see any bandaids on her or anyone trying to help her? noope, which leads me to assume shes way more than just friendless or a little lonely. so after being traumatized in one of her few attempts to actually connect with people she ends up becoming permanently disabled, and is shunned by her friends for it, watching them quickly connect with another pony just like that. getting into a freak accident like that and permanently losing one of your main abilities and be shunned by your friends and society for being disabled, then running off to the forest (so presumably she, as a CHILD, survived alone for years, possibly decades) and then being taken advantage of when youre most vulnerable by someone whos promising to give back what you lost is so much more complex and meaningful than just "girl was bullied as a child and now shes genocidal"

I know no one will see this but Derpy wasn't the one who saved Twilight, it was Rainbowdash, in the scene where Tempest was about to catch Twilight with that magic ball, you can hear rainbow shout Twilight, and if you slow down that scene you can see a rainbow appear before Twilight gets hit, and to confirm this when Applejack says over here ya'll, we see Twilight and Rainbow fleeing together.
Derpy saved the day by distracting the baddies just long enough for our heros to escape and no one can convince me otherwise. Dashies' cool too though.

Hey can we add on the fact that in the falling scene Fluttershy and Rainbow could started trying to help catch the others as well, considering how they use their hooves like arms
ok but the sin about the guard and the wonderbolts not appearing is actually bothering me because it's such an easy fix, just show them fighting storm king's army but failing, add a throwaway line explaining what the wonderbolts are if required and done, it's cheap but it's better than nothing

It's just shocking how anything has change with the sun and moon goddesses not doing their job. All scenes are during day time and that could have been planned (or not) and the hipogriffs couldn't have noticed that anyway (bc underwater) and klungetown you could argue that because they're so greedy and indiferent they wouldn't care if the sun isn't moving anymore. But still weird.

Basically the ones that tried (Even though Cadence was the only one who did anything) were immediately out of commision while the ones that are still around run and hide for most of the movie.

Let’s be honest everything in movies are wrong or else the movies would of ended in like 2 minutes
I actually really liked the movie, I mean, sure, it didn't go off without a hitch for me, but as a teen who doesn't fixate on details, it was just fine for me.
Did me, I give it a 7.6/10 (good)
I remember I went and got to see this movie in theaters when it came out and when Twilight snapped at Pinkie my mom leaned over and whispered to me “princess of friendship my a**” and it still makes me laugh to this day
I never actually ended up seeing the movie, but the animation probably would have been enough for me. It's beautiful.
It's still worth checking out even if not on the big-screen. I noticed some small improvements to the digital version that the theatrical version didn't have. Mostly subtle stuff like shading and colors, but I think it's worth a look!
It looks great. Had to watch it on a second session for the animation to really grow on me, but when it did I came to love it so much. It's fantastic.

I liked One Small Thing. As a song and kind of as part of the story, because Pinkie was doing what she did best to try and get them on their side. And then Twilight just went ahead and tried to commit theft
The song "Time to be Awesome" was the only one in the movie, i felt, that was kind of contrived or pointless. More an excuse to give Dash a song with the word "awesome" in it
Probably my favorite scene was the moment when Twilight said "Well maybe I'd be better off without friends like you!". What made the scene even more shocking was the fact that Pinkie didn't cry. Twilight did.(The little girl in the seat behind me in the theatre kept saying "Why is Twilight sad?") Then Hasbro jumpscared us.
I do like, though, how they didn't force Twilight to have her own song.
Praise Derpy for being the one to take the bullet so this movie could happen.

Crystal 959 nice to see someone loving one small thing (no, I don't say that because I'm a Skystar fanboy). I totally agree that Time to be awesome seemed forced, it wasn't even that good of a song.
I wish to add that the movie literally had "tie them up", dismemberment, torture, and emotional torture mentioned in it. This was during the pirate airship scene upon Tempests arrival. In addition, they will talk about this and kill(?) the storm king right in front of us, but won't talk about the mystery behind Applejack's parents deaths?

You forgot to mention how Tempest was able to counter the storm kings attack with his staff holding ALL ALICORN MAGIC, which is what Twilight fought Tirek with.

She knew how to use her horn. Storm king was an noob with a new toy he did not know how to use. His newly gained alicorn magic had not been mastered. Also unlike triac he wanted weather control not big beam of death.
Maybe the horn has stronger magic when broken.
