i jumped into the 4.0 eptu last night, and got so excited when i went through the jump point and arrived at bloom. All of my friends , who have tried the game and believe it will never improve saw the stream and were all getting excited, until i landed, stepped off the ship and fell through the planet. classic SC.
@@luistigerfoxA lot of it is caused from people not having enough RAM though, their PCs don't render things fast enough and that's how they fall through. I'm not sure why not rendering things means you fall through it, but that's what happens
This. since i upgraded to a fast SSD and also fast 64GB DDR5 RAM those accidents never happened again. Before it was regulary that something like this happened to me.
This is the problem: you get excited, gear up and spend all the time ready to play. Then it’s completely wrecked by a bug and huge claim times. The game is too buggy and broken for half the changes they’ve put in place in anticipation of this being a near v1.0 ready release.. clearly years away so making it enjoyable me for players with low claim times and backspace to respawn at the hab would go a long way to enabling people to play the game not play the grind.
I played 4.0 yesterday for over 4 hours. Some issues not being able to set QT and a twitchy hanger door. I died in Pyro, respawned in Orison and went back for my stuff. My death marker was still accurate between systems.
That last bit you mentioned is actually huge! death markers struggled to function in the same server. to hear someone say it worked across servers is a technical feat in of itself! hehe! amazing! I can't wait for this to go live!!!!!!!
Absolutely love hearing this, I hadn't even considered what might happen if you die in one system and spawn in another. That really is massive news that you were able to inherently do that without issue and I thank you for sharing it!!
I think you're missing something. Even with static server meshing, since they're assigning more than one server per area, it should be possible for them to reset a server without causing the shard to crash, that zone would just get worse while that server was offline rebooting. But they could make sure that it doesn't happen until that zone is at bare minimum or zero traffic before restarting. But hopefully, dynamic meshing doesn't take too much longer, as it's the Holy Grail for SC.
Actually the replication layer is the big issue, not the servers. As it is now, the replication layer replicates everything as it should. This also includes every single object like empty cans and bottles. CR & CIG are still going for that persistency feature but fail to recognize which objects have some significance to the world and which objects no one will care for. A wreck of a dead spaceship is worth to stay in place for a while, an empty bottle is not, for instance. A lot of server performance issues are based on sheer amount of objects in an instance. There's a reason why every new patch runs smoothly after release, but it takes less than a week and every single server starts to degrade to a crawl. Also the longer a server is active, the more likely it'll run into a gamebreaking bug, causing a crash. Whatever led to that crash is also replicated in the replication layer, which then may crash another server just after booting up. There are bugs that break warehouses, which also get replicated and prevent fresh servers to start with fresh, unbugged warehouse elevators. Basically CIG needs to fix their replication layers. Either they get some basic logic so each replication layer can identify bugs and remove them from persistent replication, or servers get that logic and fix themselves those issues.
@@michaelgiertz-rath7994 I agree with your assessment. I think it would also be good for CIG to create missions to cleanup areas like stations of both small debris like empty bottles and large debris like abandoned & damaged ships. I'm certain some players, myself included, would be glad to do so from time to time. I've already done those activities in the past without getting paid.
@@PaulMEdwards I see you. I like your idea. No. Just clean up the 30% of nonsense that doesn't need to be persistent & leave the clean up to salvaging. As the other dude was saying.
I'll continue to play 4.0 to help CIG with their data. Had a mixed expectations last night. Tried a bunker mission, but half the enemies never spawned. On the other hand, I had a server error and it recovered in 30 seconds.

Thousands of other bugs can be tolerated, but getting stuck or killed by evil CIG elevators made in RSI, is a decade old tradition that tops all others!
Have you actually still had issues with this in the last two patches? Because other than maybe the one in 50 elevator doors that open to empty darkness (which you avoid by simply not stepping into it 😂) or elevators occasionally not calling (which ends up being 100% attributed to server issues in my experience), I've not noticed any of the old elevator issues anymore like previously. Now, granted the Reclaimer is unusable for me because that stupid tiny side elevator phases me out, but I count that separately from the overall past elevator issues haha
@@Mr_Jish And as I was reading your post, for the past 5+ min I've been staring down my lift door, frantically clicking on the button for an elevator that still shows stuck somewhere else at A18. I was definitely more optimistic a couple of days ago. But since last night and this morning the server has degraded so hard. They still need to figure out how to deal with building up of entities. So I guess when 4.0 hits the first thing I'll do is check if I can retrieve my ship cos I currently cannot :D
I wonder how they are going to work that out. Entities never stop building up, so it’ll be interesting to see. Feel like full persistence may be a big challenge.

I have to agree, had a mercenary mission yesterday and npcs were so good, i really had to think how to aproach and eliminate them. Not like in live were you can just go right next to them a melee them
CIG really needs to add a janitorial service in the game and make trash cans functionally delete objects once they are placed in the trash can. This would be a great natural way for people to clean up the game naturally to help with server decay. I often find myself grabbing objects and placing them in trashcans despite them actually physically deleting them from the world. If this happened, much of the clutter could be gone entirely. Also a medical gown drop off box would be another great way to clean up the servers as well. They could even incentivize it a bit by giving out a small auec reward for "recycling" gowns. The reward could be very miniscule and almost non-beneficial but still be a small reward for helping the game function better none-the-less. I would absolutely love this in the game. Also dynamically spawning a mission to clean up player owned derelict ships would be another great thing. I would only want these missions spawn if their are 3-4+ ships destroyed in a spot. 1-2 ships would get annoying if a mission spawn every time a ship was left alone. But a cluster would be great! Any way to get rid of stuff will help performance! Please CIG! Janitors!!!!!
Can't believe that server meshing is coming at last! I'm waiting for the patch to drop before I start playing. That little outpost you were at looked pretty cool, I can't wait to go exploring!
If 4.0 on live ends up as smooth as we’re being told it is, it will help bring a friend or two into the game. I’ve been playing on my own, but now I feel comfortable letting friends know there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
Went through my first jump gate yesterday in 4.0 and it was magnificent. Everything was so smooth and beautiful, up until I tried to fly down to the surface of a planet and the game hard crashed to desktop. Still excited for the future.
Downloaded 4.0 last night and was super excited. Set my home in Pyro and wanted to check out the contested zones but performance was very chunky. There were many players running around but my frames were not rockin. Gonna give it another shot tonight. The station I was on looked incredible. When 4.0 drops I'll take my time. Set up a few refining jobs and make my way over when I have some decent gear and components.
There is a large tech backend requirements. If you put character logins in an instanced hanger with all the dropped items. Instead of maintaining every trash items people drop in hostel rooms. Including can easily clean up RAM when that person logs out.
I’ve only been playing since IAE, so everything still feels new to me. I’m gonna be working towards buying a vulture from day one of wipe, haven’t even tried the mining life yet. So impressed with all that they’ve accomplished so far, and what’s still to come.
a a pew pew evangelist, I absolutely love that NPC's are no joke in 4.0. and they have taken out the markers that show you NPC location. It's all love now for me
Hey Ryan, It's not, necessarily, dynamic server meshing that will fix the performance issues. It is hundreds of little bug fixes, memory leaks, graphic improvements, and other code improvements that will make it more stable and increase performance, over time. DSM can help deal with performance issues by, basically, masking them with more servers, but that is not DSMs purpose.
Great video Mac, when 4.0 drops to live i plan on taking my time in stanton by renting a prospector and mine to earn a good amount of credits before i visit pyro. Merry Christmas to you and everyone else
almost 8 years of playing and i gotta say this is the most toxic ive ever seen global chat. its fun helping people but ive resorted to just turning off chat.
I was reading on Spectrum users saying the sleep and dance emotes were being exploited; some said they personally used them to see through walls to see if and how many NPCs were on elevators.

My 4.0 EPTU experience so far: Loaded into EPTU 4.0, tram broke sent me into falling death, reset ptu, clipped through Intrepid interior during QT, reset PTU, tram broken again, uninstall PTU. Maybe next year.
I have played 4.0 a lot over the weekend and I love it, for me it felt better than the current live version. The planets, moons, settlements, space stations and skybox are absolutely stunning. I didn’t do much missions as I was just playing toerist taking it all in amd experiencing the jump point for the first time.
I have not had a single bit of luck since 4.0 went out to wave 1. I finally got to do a jump a few days ago, but that's all I was successful with. Last night I couldn't go anywhere in space. Every qt poi I jumped to the me in a random direction. Good to see people are having a successful play, but I hold my reservations since my experience says otherwise. I'll try again later today to see if I can get a decent session.
I've been considering starting Star Citizen for a long time. I follow a few TH-camrs about the game. It appeals to me a lot and it could be a good time to start when 4.0 drops.
I MUST now make storage space to install the PTU and ETU just for the 100 plus experience. Assuming it’s very PvP and org heavy since it, at where the game is, 100 max per server is just not doable! When 4.0 finally goes live, it’s going to be nuts
Didn't even expect 4.0 to be on ptu in time but here we are. Excited! Can't wait to explore and hopefully do high risk missions between Pyro and Stanton
GG on turning the tables on that guy and giving him a taste of his own medicing Mac! My few 4.0 experiences have been good as of late, just had desyncs and delays interacting with things and repair and refueling.

Star Citizen at Server FPS 30 is so good. It’s like a different game. I’m so used to server FPS being ~4. It’s so weird to play with inputs not being just dropped/ignored, ships not janking about all over the place. Promising stuff!
As soon as i get in 4.0 I will start putting my component shopping list into action, starting with the most fuel efficient jump drives and then begin running bunkers to start building my collection of weapons and armor and auec in prep for making my first forays into Pyro in a few weeks after 4.0 launch. I will set my respawn to a Pyro station and live out there for a few days at a time, mining, harvesting and slowly building rep with the right faction(s) ..then ill come back to Stanton to offload and work on some missions and rep on this side. I cant wait for 4.0
Our group will be finally playing and enjoing the game. I hope it will deliver the stable performance we all seek. I keep my friends up to date and keep them motivated. We are all hyped to get on to 4.0. We all are ok with early acces and bugs but we need stable server to play together and enjoy the game. I hope i will keep everybody interested or more the game.
I couldn't hit 20 fps anywhere in Pyro, normally I'm fine in the PU getting playable fps, but in Pyro it would consistently dip into single digits and only top out at around 20.
Yep, best I've ever seen it, been playing for hours in 4.0 for the last few days, did some hauling missions in Pyro, NPCs are really good at outposts in combat, feels snappy. Markers are not on the mission but you can read the mission if it says where you have to go.
Agree, performance over the last 24 hrs has improved to the extent of SMOOTH, the only issue ive had over that period is having to redo my Character/Home Base every 2/3 sessions, yet that is preferrable over elevators/kiosks/hangar issues. Optomistic for the holidays. Plan on following your example of a slow methodic exploration of Pyro, very exciting times ahead. PS No prize thanks, ive 2 Polaris. Kudos
The first thing I will do is head to Bloom. It’s just so pretty and I have been waiting years to walk through the yellow grass. Then I’ll be visiting all POIs to determine which one is the most Star Wars.
Performance is dog crap not sure what magic servers you were on. Just getting a relatively stable server last night was like pulling teeth. My party of 4 were all experiencing major hitching, very low FPS, many CTD issues, servers just freezing without error messages etc..
I have followed Star Citizens development (through Ryan) the beginning and I always come back every year to see how the development has gone and to see if it’s ready to play yet. I think 4.0 is the biggest and most major update since the beginning and I have been watching all your videos on SC development. Can’t wait to finally take flight ✈️

When 4.0 drops, First stop Pyro, of course! Also find a decent aUEC loop to compensate for the wipe, which I am looking forward to. It will give a new lease of life to the game and having stuff to aim for again.
Great video as usual! When 4.0 drops I plan on going into pyro in full care bear mode. Trying to PVE and will probably get blasted everywhere I go.
I have to agree, had a mercenary mission yesterday and npcs were so good, i really had to think how to aproach and eliminate them. Not like in live were you can just go right next to them a melee them
Great info and video thanks smb and merry christman
Im so pumped that we might see it go live this year. Don't care how ruff it will b, we need more peeps testing it.
EPTU is open to all backers right now so feel free.
Almost every single major patch PTU: "Performance is amazing!!!"
Logging into LIVE on patch day: "......oh."
Can't believe that server meshing is coming at last! I'm waiting for the patch to drop before I start playing. That little outpost you were at looked pretty cool, I can't wait to go exploring!
As soon as 4.0 drops, I will make my way to my Carrack and fly directly to the wormhole and experience it for the first time...
i got to play it today the fps i got improved and the clouds in either side of JP is streaming properly, when it hit live i will grind my lost ships
If 4.0 on live ends up as smooth as we’re being told it is, it will help bring a friend or two into the game. I’ve been playing on my own, but now I feel comfortable letting friends know there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
When 4.0 drops? Simply exploring, I have been avoiding any and all videos showcasing Pyro locations, I plan to experience them all firsthand myself.
Same here.
Set up a few refining jobs and make my way over when I have some decent gear and components.
its happening! OMG! My dream game!
I just wanna find a outpost and do local missions stay on one planet for a couple of days
The scenery and smoothness of your in game video was fantastic!
Was that on vulkan or is that not advised yet still? :) I'm behind!
I will start with some bounties in Stanton to get the basics before heading out to Pyro in my 315p!
315P got the QT fuel upgrade! It’s one of my favorite ships, so excited about that.
There is a large tech backend requirements. If you put character logins in an instanced hanger with all the dropped items. Instead of maintaining every trash items people drop in hostel rooms.
Including can easily clean up RAM when that person logs out.
Can't wait to jump to pyro with my friends for the first time!
It's all love now for me
First thing I’ll be doing is trying the jump for the first time, and heading straight to bloom to hear Pedro’s sweet, sweet symphony.
This fills me with hope as my performance has been garbage since the last patch dropped in Live. Thanks for posting this.
Great video Mac, when 4.0 drops to live i plan on taking my time in stanton by renting a prospector and mine to earn a good amount of credits before i visit pyro.
Merry Christmas to you and everyone else
As soon as 4.0 drops, I'm forcing all my mates to jump on and join me in the contested zones xD
almost 8 years of playing and i gotta say this is the most toxic ive ever seen global chat. its fun helping people but ive resorted to just turning off chat.
I was reading on Spectrum users saying the sleep and dance emotes were being exploited; some said they personally used them to see through walls to see if and how many NPCs were on elevators.
Man you are not lying! I played last night and man it was great I got to see pyro and fly around and some fps combat on bloom. No issues no frame drop no falling through the planet. I wanna play now but I promise wifey we would hit act 2 in POE2, hopefully she starts laundry soon!
Title is bullshit game is still just as broken as its always been but with more pretty stuff to look at
My 4.0 EPTU experience so far: Loaded into EPTU 4.0, tram broke sent me into falling death, reset ptu, clipped through Intrepid interior during QT, reset PTU, tram broken again, uninstall PTU.
My first jump yesterday really made worth the wait, Pyro is simply wonderful!
I MUST now make storage space to install the PTU and ETU just for the 100 plus experience. Assuming it’s very PvP and org heavy since it, at where the game is, 100 max per server is just not doable! When 4.0 finally goes live, it’s going to be nuts
From the feedback about 4.0, it feels like this might finally be the right time to enter into this Verse!
I'm not holding my breath!
Thats good to hear. Seems to be very unhealthy over a longer periode of time
Thx MacBro! Your channel has been a rock!
Didn't even expect 4.0 to be on ptu in time but here we are. Excited! Can't wait to explore and hopefully do high risk missions between Pyro and Stanton
Can't wait to actually feel like i have game play options after making myself forget about the game for the last 5 years
GG on turning the tables on that guy and giving him a taste of his own medicing Mac! My few 4.0 experiences have been good as of late, just had desyncs and delays interacting with things and repair and refueling.
New to the game still working on upgrading my computer to be able to play, costing so much to be able to play, that give away sounds so nice for a 67 year old gamer like me. Keep the videos coming. and yes I subbed.
I tell you I plan to see pyro. Do some mining around there
Star Citizen at Server FPS 30 is so good. It’s like a different game. I’m so used to server FPS being ~4. It’s so weird to play with inputs not being just dropped/ignored, ships not janking about all over the place. Promising stuff!
*i literally just need them to fix the rearm refuel repair functionality I hate landing on a pad and it won't allow me to rearm.*
I try 4.0 yesterday and after 4 5 minutes crashes i return to live. But im so exited to been able to explore new planets with my useless 400i
As soon as i get in 4.0 I will start putting my component shopping list into action, starting with the most fuel efficient jump drives and then begin running bunkers to start building my collection of weapons and armor and auec in prep for making my first forays into Pyro in a few weeks after 4.0 launch.
I will set my respawn to a Pyro station and live out there for a few days at a time, mining, harvesting and slowly building rep with the right faction(s) ..then ill come back to Stanton to offload and work on some missions and rep on this side. I cant wait for 4.0
Thanks for testing and sharing. I’m waiting for live to have my first jump
I also jumped on eptu. When 4.0 goes live I plan on failing my first few missions miserably like I normally do.
Kudos
Our group of three tried the jump gate together today, amazing experience.
The first thing I will do is head to Bloom. It’s just so pretty and I have been waiting years to walk through the yellow grass. Then I’ll be visiting all POIs to determine which one is the most Star Wars.
Looking forward to sight-seeing!
Performance is dog crap not sure what magic servers you were on. Just getting a relatively stable server last night was like pulling teeth. My party of 4 were all experiencing major hitching, very low FPS, many CTD issues, servers just freezing without error messages etc..
Same. Yesterday it was better, now I get 5 fps near water and 20 planetside
My plan for 4.0 is to give mining a go as i've avoided it up until now.
Thanks for providing good coverage of all of the progress, much appreciated.
Great to see it running this well. Hopefully it'll just keep improving.
Happy Luminalia Everyone, looking forward to seeing the contested zones in Pyro
First thing I’m gonna do when logging into 4.0 is to start grinding gear and rep in Stanton in preparation for runs to pyro
I’m going to set my spawn in Stanton so I don’t get locked in pyro if jump gates don’t work. Fingers crossed 4.0 is amazing!
