    It's very frustrating to see Lenovo/Legion only offering a Mini-LED on the $5,000 Legion 9i, especially after they advertised it with the launch of the Gen 7 Slim models last year but never released it.

      I think all the manufacturers decided to keep minileds as a super exclusive option in gaming laptops. I mean, is it really necessary to get an i9 and 4080/90 just for a miniled? Its all fixed! Id like to see these guys need to make pc gaming more enticing for the console gamers.

So, I was going back and fourth for sometime, until i saw a video on Lenovo. I had no idea they were into gaming, and I just fell in love.. I was either going to do PRO 5, or the Slim that i got. I don't have money for 2K plus. I'd love a 408, 4090 but that's way to much for me. I shop open boxed for my laptop. I think I made a good decision. I did like the feel of the ASUS though. @@kazmiee

      @@kazmiee Yes, but i have the 2000p panel. Actually, there is a strange EC bug where sometimes, booting the machine in hybrid-iGPU mode disconnects the data bus for the dGPU (meaning it does not show up in task manager), but it still gets fed power (up to 9W more). When this happened i got similar battery life to what you got. For me the trick was to set it from hybrid-iGPU to hybrid, back to hybrid-iGPU. I liked the review but defending Alienware for its high temps just because it has a 4080 doesn't seem justified. Sure, it has a much higher wattage, but that's the decision of the manufacturer.

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm, that is a fair comment. Did not intend on appearing to defend Alienware or seem biased. Just wanted to say that devices can work with different thermal tolerances subject to a myriad of factors to make the device work for the end consumer. But perhaps ill do a deeper dive into the thermals of the Alienware to see how well performance is sustained over a long period of use. Have recently started playing Starfield on it and will log some stats to see how it all works out.

    Hi Ali. I just discovered you chanel and the quality of the reviews is very good! I need some help here: I was debating between Legion Slim 7i and Zephyrus M16, both with IPS screen. Coming from a Macbook M1 Pro can't switch to cheap plastic laptop. I'm doing web development and just started working on a video game a month ago so need some graphical juice. Which one would you recommend?

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for your kind words Daniel. I really appreciate it! I am leaning towards the M16.. atleast on an "on paper" kind of technical understanding. Big win for the M16 is having 2 SODIMMs so that you can easily upgrade your ram to 64 if needed. Also, with the third fan and more heat pipes, it offers better thermals which is very important for the long life of the device. I also really like the look of the device with the screen starting from the base of the deck. the keyboard is also REALLY nice on the M16. I believe it might be a bit more expensive compared to the Legion Slim 7, but I think it more than justifies the premium on paper. Sure, it would be thicker compared to the Slim 7 but on the day to day, I believe you wont even notice it. You will lose RGB control on the M16, sure! but honestly, the novelty of per key RGB seems to wear off rather quickly.
      NOWW.. all that being said, if someone is attempting to move from the apple world to windows, I am usually very happy to recommend the Razer blade (of course, subject to availability of budget); BUT.. NOTHING.. and i mean nothing comes close to the premium build and feel in windows devices to that of the Razer Blade. And at a thickness of 0.67 inches, It feels incredibly slim and solid at the same time, while pushing PS5 levels of power. You dont have to consider the Blade 16.. since that is thicker. The blade 15 still offers a sweet spot in terms of power and portability. Maybe you could also get a good deal on last gen's Blade 17 with a 3070ti.. which offers close to the 4070's performance this year. Hope this helps!

    • @DanielNistrean
      @DanielNistrean ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kazmieeThanks a lot Ali. Very useful information. Razer Blade 17 inch RTX 3070ti is within my budget. My only concern is that's last gen and I think doesn't support DLSS 3. I was able to test both Legion Slim 7i and M16. Touchpad is okish on both but Legion metal build feels so much better. It feels cold metal and I love that compared to M16 weird alloy of lightest metal (Magnesium) that feels like plastic.
      I haven't had the chance to put my hands on a Blade and I don't know if it's worth overpaying for 2023 model. Some people in Lenovo Legion Discord said that Razer Blade have bigger QC issues compared to Lenovo Legion.

  • @93xDmario

    wow, insane small difference between 4060 and 4070. I think Nvidia is intentionally handicaping the 4070 by limiting it to 100W so the 4070TI will make sense when they release it. However, I struggle to understand overall those TimeSpy Scores. After reapplying liquid metal on CPU + thermal paste on my GPU+VRMs, I have a Graphics Score of 10902 with an ***RTX3070*** (2.5yo ROG). The CPU score is way lower, 8721, the "old" Ryzen 7 5800H can't really keep up, despite having a more linear graph ( runs above 4Ghz - up to 4.4 ) constantly, I see this 13700H dips quite often below 4Ghz which is not ideal. I was thinking of an upgrade if there's a good offer on Black Friday because this ROG gives me random freezes sometimes, but given how little performance improvment there is, I think I'll keep it for 1 more year or so given they're not really that frequent on cable, more on battery. Good review!

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was surprised as well. But then hardware specs dont have much setting them apart. Overall I think good decision to have the 4060 with 8 gigs of vram. 6 is just not sufficient anymore. Even 8 is become obsolete now. Good to see you're squeezing out the full potential out of your ROG machine. I am thinking to repaste my Razer 15 with the 3070 as well soon with liquid metal. Ill probably do a deeper check into the frequency stats as well. I miss the good old days when all cores were made equal. I dont even see alot of battery/energy saving benefits of the E cores. Makes it a little wierd to evaluate the CPU as a package. :/

      This generation of mobile gpus is just trash unless you get a 4080 or 4090.
      You can get a 4050 that runs at _140W_ . That's so dumb, when it goes past like 105W or 110W it just wastes energy with NO performance gain. The only good thing about this generation (on lower end models) is frame generation and the extra vram on 4050 and 4060. They done the 4070 dirty. It should have had 10-12GB to make it look HALFWAY decent

      Let me tell you this. I have A legion 5 pro with a 3070 that goes up to 150 watts and a 5800h yet my timespy scores were 12,460 for the Graphics and 10,200 for the CPU. It seems like you aren't utilizing your hardware properly.

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Stardomplay hmm, well, If that 3070 really is going up to 150w, that could tip the scales for a favorable timespy score. In this device, TGP barely reached 90w. Not sure how I can utilize the hardware better. Happy to take any advice. :)

    • @93xDmario
      @93xDmario 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Stardomplay not really sure how you're getting 150W out of that RTX 3070. Even lenovo mentions a cap on 140W, that with Dynamic boost. In stress tests on a full CPU load (45W) this GPU doesn't reach more than 125W. In gaming, where the CPU is not 100% used ( so ~ 35-36W) it can go up to 130-135W. There's really not a way to "use the hardware better" unless you decide to go into overclocking, which gives minimal performance improvments in relation to the temps / power. I, for one, don't really see a point of overclocking, other than increasing results for benchmarks....fps in games is slightly better, but it doesn't make a difference ( if the game is not playable, it won't be playable with OC ). PERSONALLY, I'd prefer the Slim 7 since I feel it is worth the premium BUTT.. if for example your use case is to edit large and long 4k videos, then with the 5i you can install 64 gigs but with the slim 7, the options are limited. Yes, battery life of AMD version is untouchable for Intel, with same kind of workload discharge rate is floating around 12-15w which translates into 7hrs and close to 8 for simple web browsing in quiet mode, LEDs off and screen at 40-50%. The only problem is that AMD also got bunch of annoying bugs and issues ( that are not present in this Intel powered version) and after weeks of fighting with their seemingly non existing support it looks like lenovo is unable on just unwilling to fix them. So Intel got bad battery life and AMD got issues, pick your poison )

      Haha, I hear that, and I think people would be happy to pick "reliable but power hungry" over "unreliable but efficient". To AMD's credit, they have been hard at work and have introduced many many driver updates and I have personally seen many issues go away with my Legion 7 gen 7 you with the Ryzen 6800H and Radeon 6700M. It seems to be pretty stable now but initially I had to experiment quite a bit with drivers and updates. I was testing out the Corsair A1600 last week which is an all AMD machine and that had a few annoying quirks as well for which I had to mess around before getting it stable. So one probably needs to be patient and know their way a bit around computers to deal with AMD machines. Which makes me sad

I really loved the Slim 7 after doing a LOT of research. It checked all the boxes I was looking for. Just wasn't in the cards for me. • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the question! Though I have not had hands on experience on the Transcend and I intend to soon, here is my take:
      Things in Favor of the Transcend:
      - Ceramic white; it is a unique color in the gaming laptop space
      - 2 RAM Sodimms - You can take it up to 64 gigs to support massive architecture / 3d projects (Legion Slim only has only one sodimm slot)
      - Can be configured with a miniled option so HDR content takes a big leap
      - HX series intel CPUs (so 24 cores) providing desktop grade processing to support large scale rendering int your architecture projects
      - Facial login using windows hello (Legion has fingerprint login)
      Things in favor of the Legion slim 7
      - overall better user-friendly experience through the Lenovo vantage software (+ keyboard shortcuts)
      - Slightly lighter in weight - Close to 2 kilos instead of 2.3 in the Transcend
      - Can be configured with a higher resolution display (3000 x 2000 px) though no mini led
      - 2 SSD slots for easy storage upgrade - Transcend just has one slot
      - Keypad is available if you're crunching in numbers
      - Keyboard that is broadly accepted to feel premium to type on - also, does not have the WASD keys that are translucent - I personally dont like laptops trying to look too 'gamer-esque'
      - SD Card slot
      With the HX series CPUs and upgradeable RAM, feels like the Transcend can be a better buddy for architecture work (I mean you can still have the Legion bought in the 32gig RAM configuration from the start which can be sufficient) - But overall as a general laptop to cover most use cases, perhaps the Legion is better. I think the HX series CPU can play the major deciding factor. Hope that helps!

      Oh man.. That delivery date is insane! I am sorry to hear that. Naturally the Slim 7 holds a good special place in the market. My best alternative would be the Asus M16 but it might be a bit expensive (which I dont understand why) But you will get better heat management with it as well and I'd say an overall better experience too (MINUS the RG keyboard) - You could also consider the G16 if that fits the bill though it becomes a bit flashy for me personally. In similar dimensions, build and personality, The MSI stealth 15 or 16 also comes to mind. The Stealth 15 actually has an OLED as well though naturally those can be expensive too. For thin and powerful though, look no further than the Alienware X16. Though It works best with a 4080 if you have the budget. There is also an HP Omen transcend which I have heard great things about but have not used it yet. BTW< if you dont mind me asking; what is your location? Feels strange that Legion does not have good reach any where in the world. If you can find the older Gen 7 Legion 7 with a 3070ti or even the 6700M, that will be awesome

      It should be able to handle it just fine. With the pro 5i you will get a display that is not as bright BUT.. you will get one extra SODIMM slot to upgrade your ram later. But honestly, if for example you're long COD matches like 5 hours straight, though it will handle it just fine, the 5i might give you SLIGHTLY more comfort on the keyboard deck / wrist areas just because it has a bigger body and will be able to dissipate heat a bit more efficiently. But I'd think the difference may not be too noticeable. ALSO, if your based in a geo that generally has a warmer climate, perhaps there the 5i might prove to be slightly more useful. Both have a 3060 but the legion has a full powered 130W one and the Zephyrus has a 120W one. The zephyrus is a light weight option for sure but I have seen users saying that it does have some screen tearing and stuttering issues, mainly cuz it does not have G-sync. I dont know if that is the main reason but that is as far as I know. I'm not much into content creation. Hey Govind, thank you for your quesrion. Where are you based and what is your budget? Any chance you can accomodate a device with an RTX 4060 or Radeon 6800S ? I only ask because a 3060 would have 6 gigs or Vram and since you are seeking a device that would last you some time, id advise to get something with atleast 8 gigs of vram. Although, now that I think about it, if the savings are nice with the 3060 and you primarily intend to play at 1080p and with medium to high graphic presets, perhaps it would still treat you well. Generally speaking, from what I have heard, when it comes to thermals from that time, Legions would be a better choice compared to the ROG. I do still maintain, you wont find a noticeable difference between 120w and 130w TGP :/ . All just my opinions. Others are also free to share here. Hope you get your device soon so that you can get to some gaming. :)

      @@kazmiee Hey!
      I'm from India and I'd say 1200$ is around the max that my budget can allow. The Legion, after discounts and an exchange offer cost around 1178$.
      The zephyrus costs around 1200$ on the dot with the exact price reduction options. Primarily I'm leaning more towards the legion cuz of that 16" screen with that insane brigthness and a good colour gamet. But since its a 2021 model, I'm having second thoughts about its reliability over the coming years. There is a 4060 option here, from the Lenovo LOQ series, but its got an average 15.6 inch screen with average colour gamet with ok brightness but it costs around a 1046$ only. And the model I'm looking at doesn't have any RGB keyboard option. Well I'd like to have some level of RGB to spicen up my dull life so that's why😅. It is an amazing deal no joke but its the only 4060 option at that budget constraint. I am not looking much into content creation but I'd like to have a good screen to watch movies, videos and what not while also game quite a bit. Most games would run at 1440p without much problems in the Legion right? That's what I have seen till now and I hope it is the case with the zephyrus too. I wouldn't mind playing in 1080p with descent settings cuz it would be my first ever gaming laptop. So I would love to know if I wont end having an regrets after buying.

    Yeah the numpad is the only gripe i have with it, for the vast majority it will be useless and an uncentered keyboard and trackpad are annoying as hell

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you! Maybe legion is following some market research where target customers are rating the numpad as a high priority. Getting rid of it would REALLY improve the looks of it as well.

    Legion 7 2021 is 165w full power. So my 3070 is closer to a 4050 in an underwatted model anyway.

      However, ROG still has that external GPU option obviously proprietary. But even with thunderbolt, the Razer eGPU is your best bet. It can still give you what you are looking for but you won't get the absolute full potential out of it. I know the Razer EGPU (core) can go on 50 PC discount once or twice a year

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have not gotten my hands on the Omen.. But if it is cheaper by comparison, You can definitely consider it. I mean both in terms of their engineering are pretty standard, you do get 2 SODIMMs for RAM but just 1 slot for your SSD, however in the Legion you get 1 SODIMM for RAM and 2 slots for your SSD. So up to you where you want to swing. ALSO, the Legion has a nicer display, both are 240 hz, but the legion has a more modern 16:10 aspect ratio and goes up to 500 nits. as a result, I personally think it is better looking as well. For me, i would pick the Legion 7, it is just a nice well rounded device, but you wont get an HX CPU in there. personally, I dont have any particular use case for the HX CPU. As a casual gamer, even a 13th gen i5 would be okay since MOST games tend to be more GPU bound. Anyway, hope that helps! let me know what you finally decide on!

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@namanrustagi135 for the purpose of gaming, the i7 will be more than enough. The 13900H will give you 5.4ghz of boost clock vs 5.0 on the i7. That extra clock speed can come in handy in rendering work, engineering programs etc. otherwise, main benefits in gaming would come from a better GPU. But hey, 50 is not a great deal much. Perhaps it might help with resale later?
