    I had endless trouble with the A2 rear sight for my M16A2 build also. After several months of frustration (literally) I got a Luth AR rear assembly and that seems to be working fine. I found the most difficult parts to obtain were the rear sight assembly and the handguards.
    I wanted GI handguards, which are easy enough to find, but not for a reasonable price in good condition. I finally found someone selling a "box o' handguards" at a gun show. It had one original GI A2 handguard in the box. He wasn't selling them separately. I bought the whole box, then turned around and sold the remainder to recoup my cost. A real pain in the @ss, but I got the part I needed and actually made a profit. 😎
    Thanks, Pete! I hope the rest of your project goes smoothly.

      I think by now with the Retro craze fully ramped up it wouldn't be that hard to find what you need. If you do find quality they are usually out of stock for months! I did look at Luth AR for what I needed and they had it listed but "Out of Stock"! H&R at Palmetto State Armory has excellent A2 hand guards but as you were saying they are not cheap! Thanks again Gary for watching and commenting!

      @@peteregger7928 That's the situation I found. "Out of stock".

      @@peteregger7928... I've been thinking that companies like Luth are showing OOS on their site because they are selling through Optics Planet, Primary Arms, and many other affiliates. As not to compete so to say.

    As always, very informative and thorough!
    Sorry if I had lead you astray on the M&A recommendation. I thought theirs was the same as the Amherst sight but maybe I have 2 of the Amherst 🤔

      No worries! I purchased a few other things from M&A that I didn't showcase and it was all fine. Just preferred the Fulton markings on the indexing drum. I haven't found a vendor yet that's 100%! The main reason I assemble my own is to try and catch all the little things that aren't right! Most manufactures that sell complete firearms just slam them together! These days especially we are the QC! Posted this same reply earlier but it got deleted for some reason. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@peteregger7928 Absolutely! Every mfg/dealer has their quirks. I bought an LPK from Fulton because I wanted phosphate pins and controls. The bolt catch had a seem running down the middle of the paddle and looked black oxide 🤦🏻‍♂️ everything else in the kit was good 🤷🏻‍♂️

    The cost of building these things almost always goes out the window trying to do it right. Very frustrating.. Looking good though

      That's good know! I've used two of them with no issues on H&R uppers. I'm going to try and find some specifications on the A2 sight base.

    Nice! side note: Where you finding the blueprints online, everything I find is blurry, I want to print nice ones and frame for inside the house. Links?

      Go to Gatalog.com. Click on "Technical Data Packages". You will be redirected to Odysee. Click on "Content". The "M4A1" thumbnail should populate at the upper left. The "M16" thumbnail will be at the bottom right. I would post a link but this platform doesn't allow it!

    Its funny having to mix match parts like Tuco shopping for a Revolver.

    Junk parts included, not cool. Hope RR sent you a good replacement. Both should send something free for your time and hassle. Saw Primary Arms has a Luth AR C7A1 assembled upper receiver on sale now for $114. About to drag me down that hole. Lol

    • @peteregger7928
      @peteregger7928  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yep! It's everything these days! QC no longer exists no matter what you pay! We are the QC now! I have a price point for returns which usually equates to " economic point of diminishing returns"! It usually goes in the trash and I STOP buying their products which is how I usually get even! These videos also help to illuminate the increasing QC problem. One of the reasons I'm here is to help others from having to experience the same issues and to also learn from others! Another phrase that has real meaning that I like, "the unfulfilled promise of technology!". Thanks Allen!

    Honestly, makes the GB'er/ARFcom scalper prices for genuine Colt parted-out components look like a bargain...if not for price at least peace of mind. I really don't trust anything else now, and even the new Colt stuff can be disappointing at times. Way too much variation in quality and tolerances for a weapon system that has every part's spec highly documented.

    • @peteregger7928
      @peteregger7928  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep! I think maybe a combination of the receiver machining and the sight base. It really seems to be happening more and more often! Poor QC! I wouldn't mind using Colt stuff at all but new or NOS individual parts and pieces are almost always "out of stock"! Then you some times wonder if it really is genuine and as you were saying very pricey!
