King Kong's Theme (The Eighth Wonder of the World Suite)

  • There exists a place only spoken in legends that sailors and adventurers do not dare to go. In 1933, myth became truth when the crew of the Venture had discovered the last blank spot of the map. Skull Island is a place where Man does not rule, as it is instead ruled by a menagerie of terrifying prehistoric creatures from different bygone eras. And on top of its sinking ruins and carnivore-infested jungles, lies a tall mountain, where its true king resides. The Beast that will eventually meet its death at the hands of Man within the concrete jungles of New York City. Behold, Megaprimatus Kong: the Eighth Wonder of the World!
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one no less. I said I wasn't going to do any more mixes as I worked on Halo The Story So Far Four through Six, but after watching Godzilla vs Kong, I rediscovered an old favorite film of mine. It's been ages since I've seen the film and it's still my favorite Kong film to this day (though the MonsterVerse Kong is my favorite overall iteration of the character). The music is beautiful, mysterious, epic, and tragic (haunting can also be used to describe the later tragic elements in a way). So I decided to take those elements and make up a little surprise mix for you guys to enjoy.
Don't ask to do any other mixes, as this one came out of the blue. However, that doesn't mean I won't explore other things in the future. My focus now is with my Halo series and after that... well anything is possible.
Also, I recently found a copy of the game and it still kicks ass!
Halo The Story So Far Community Post is coming soon!

One of my favorite movies. This film is emotional and epic. For me most beautiful scene is "Ice Skating". Ending always makes me cry. Btw I love final battle with planes. Music is great at this scene and I can listen this all the time.
But at all King Kong is better version of Beauty and the Beast with tragic ending.

Tiny humans, and one in particular, came as invaders to his domain and forever changed it and him. Kong died not in some battle with the monsters he struggled against daily in his savage kingdom, but far away, struggling to be anything but alone again."

Objectively, I would say this is definitely a superior movie to any Monsterverse movie. But ironically, it is thanks to this movie that I came to love the Monsterverse. Seeing Kong die at the end was always painful to watch, and I always ended the movie feeling a sense of resentment to the humans for what they did to him. It frustrated me that Kong did not deserve to die the way he did.
Which is why I personally prefer the Monsterverse movies. Not because they are "better" movies, but because I love seeing the monsters being treated as the main characters in this universe, and I love that at the end of each movie, the monsters themselves get the satisfying ending they deserve.

It's so easy for people to just write this movie off as a dumb monster movie about a big monke but it is SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. You've already covered the key descriptives in the description; beautiful, haunting, epic etc. but that's not even the tip of the iceberg, it's a photo of the tip. To properly describe this movie would take multiple comments and self-replies and at that point, I should just open up a blogspot or something but this movie stands the test of time for good reason.
Peter Jackson crammed every frame of this movie with detail and backstory and love and respect. This movie is as much a respectable recreation of the oldest monster movie ever as much as it is homage, tribute, period piece, character study, commentary on what a "monster" is as well as look into speculative evolution. My own post on the r/fantheories subreddit ponders the implications of what it took to create Skull Island from natural sciences standpoint and that thing took me a chunk of my evening to type out.
I know we got some documentaries and even a mockumentary explaining the thought process behind Jackson's Skull Island but I could listen to the team talk about how they created every aspect of this movie until there's nothing left. There's a reason why I kept coming back to this movie when I got the DVD in 2006, and it wasn't just because TH-cam was in its fledgling days with barely anything on. This was the best content I had access to
God, I can't wait to start the LOTR trilogy for the first time! If this is Jackson's underrated gem, imagine what his spotlight work must be like!
