Last fall the Utah symphony orchestra did the whole score to episode five live to the movie. It wasn't a London symphony orchestra but it was still great.

4:28 is when the battle REALLY begins! I love ESB and all of Star Wars Canon and Legends, and I remember this music blasting out of my speakers with me and my dad playing that co-op Hoth level in 2015 Star Wars Battlefront for hours on end!
Also, I absolutely love how, when the actual battle music for Hoth plays about 4:30 in, the drums and low brass instruments actually simulate the AT-ATs walking, while the more frantic overtures simulate the Snowspeeders.
The power of music to transport your mind to visual scene is insane. The beginning of the music goes from serenity then to anticipation then to pure calamity and it’s so beautiful!
Holy crap I only just realized, the battle music literally tries to mimic the sound of the AT-ATs walking. How on earth did I notice this before! It's genius, and most noticeable at 5:13, and 6:05, with the lower instruments.
GuzzolineGuzzler I posted this before they showed a lot of genuine gameplay footage with the music playing. I assumed the music was cued to the trailer, but it's in the actual gameplay as well.
This is by far the best composition he's ever done. Nothing in the Star Wars series comes even close to this musical scene. This is Mr. Williams most heartfelt Star Wars sound track.
Its incredible how you can really hear the desperation in the soundtrack itself - like, the bad guys are winning and we can't do nothing to stop them - but then there's bits of hope thrown into the mix. Williams is a genius.
I love it at 9:10 when the base trombones and tubas blare the life out of themselves as the walker is slowly making its way to step on Luke's crashed speeder.
I saw this in the theatre on opening weekend back in '80. When the Imperial Walkers first appeared on the big 70mm movie screen the audience audibly gasped.

I love how John Williams music conveys the exact tension of the scene.
That armor's too strong for blasters! Rogue Group; use your harpoons and tow cables! Go for the legs!
was that from the movie?
brummfahrer
Yes...
+brummfahrer
yes.
Coming around, Rogue Leader!
+Mr4theLulz1 Yes SIR
I have most of William's score for 'Star Wars' memorized and this is still one of my favorite songs
I second this
What I would give to see this entire piece played live by a great orchestra.... London Symphony... Vienna Symphony.... this would be incredible.
Last fall the Utah symphony orchestra did the whole score to episode five live to the movie.
It wasn't a London symphony orchestra but it was still great.
2:43 "I think we'll be ok, unless they have giant robot camels" - Family Guy
"ah jim.....robot camels"
"Come on, Golden Rod! Or you're gonna be a permanent resident!"
Wait for me!
how typical xD
They should have. 3PO was a royal pain
This song perfectly highlights the magic of John Williams and the genius in the way the music perfectly assists every plot point, every narrative beat.
It's magical and powerful in every way.
It also sounds real frickin good
"Shield Generator will down in a moment Lord Vader, you may start your landing"
"Target Locked!, Maximum Firepower!"
- Grand Maester Pycelle
*R.I.P Dak.*
*He thought he could take on the Empire by himself*
Hey Empire, get ready to suck some dak-
@Stuttering Steamer Wrong franchise.
His overconfidence was his weakness.
@@gumdeo your faith in your friends is yours
@@gumdeo It is pointless to resist, my son
This picture of the battle of Hoth is the best star wars picture ever, never fails to take my breath away, as does the John Williams music...
Good lord, every once in a while I come back to star wars music, but I never usually think to come to this piece. It’s so good! It might be one of my favorites honestly lol
Personally, I favor 4:28. Reminds me of BF2.
Shadows of the Empire bruh
Mr. Person I agree
I like that part because it reminds me of that part in the movie, duh
Andrew King 3:04 because it reminds me of that arrogant imperial guy that says "good, our first catch of the day" and is too stupid to realize that the good guys always live. stupid imperials need to learn how movies work :P
Personally, 3:45 is the best. It makes me feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself.
0:49 to 1:04 Massive chills when I first saw this, as the Imperial fleet bears down on Hoth.
Same here!
It's such a maliciously gleeful reprise of the Imperial March, almost like its saying: "nowhere to run now, rebel scum!"
True Story: I actually found an autographed copy of The Empire Strikes Back Novelization at Goodwill! Inside were the autographs of John Morton (Dak Ralter himself!) and Donald F. Gult (the book's author!). An autographed copy of the ESB novelization and it was sitting on the Goodwill shelf for $1.99!!! It's now a fine addition to my collection.
The Hoth battle holds a special place in my heart and it's mostly because of the music. Thank you John Williams!
I always loved the ending of this track (13:50) when Luke notices the Millenium Falcon made it out and he himself takes off in his X-Wing.
4:27 "Echo 2 to Echo base, we've spotted an imperial walker."
I'm sure it'll be fine, as long as they don't have any giant robot camels.
lol
I never even thought about this as score... it was just a natural part of the film.
Because it's so good
ohh
lol
4:02 here it comes
+Jhon Alex The weird thing is, that part is not actually in the film itself. it must have been edited out or something
+Jhon Alex sounds like jaws for some reason XD
+The Gamers Spawn It sounds more like walking AT-AT.
+The Gamers Spawn John Williams connects his themes in the movies he composes for
+Jhon Alex They play this theme in Star Wars Rebels with the AT-DP scene.
I hum this to myself whenever I snow-blow the drive way.
We've spotted a snow blow walker
Another settlement Needs your help ALERT THE BASE! We got to get our men and supplies out of here!
Terriss0421 (dog walks onto property)
I REPEAT IMPERIAL WALKERS ARE CLOSING IN!
(Knocks over a trashcan)
THE SHEILD GENERATOR IS DOWN, I REPEAT THE SHEILD GENERATOR IS DOWN!
LAUNCH THE SNOWSPEEDERS!
(Little micro drones come out the snow)
Terriss0421 :( I’ve never seen snow up close
Saw this movie with a live orchestra four years ago, and this was by far my favorite part of the performance.
5:34 "That armor's too strong for blasters!"
5:39 "Rouge Group, use your harpoons and tow cables. Go for the legs. It might be our only chance at stopping them!"
Ah, the memories of Shadows of The Empire...
ImperialAce710 ooohhh yeah!!!! the music and the game were epic :')
Fire Hazard super Mario sunshine one of the best super Mario games ever i love Mario games but i am more for super Mario 64 :)
oh ok
ImperialAce710 (VA-546-1) Cherish your nostalgic memories and never play it because you will absolutely crush them if you do.
ImperialAce710 (VA-546-1) I dunno. I get Jedi Academy vibes from this one.
4:29 onward is like a damn Roman war!
That's... Why I'm here
Complete with war elephants.
0:00-14:48 is my study music. Thank you John Williams for being a legend and making me fall in love with music. 🎶 ❤️
when you can follow along in your head exactly where you would be in the movie, you know the composer did a good job
Oh my goodness I just sit and listen to this and I know exactly what is going to happen 😃. Glad I'm not the only one who does that 🤣
This is actually so true, the way the music gives a clear view of the scenes is incredible and not like any other music to me
The beginning is so freaking beautiful
I love when the glorious Imperial Army steamrolled the Rebel Slime to the sound of this music.
For the Empire!
Long live the Empire
Long live the Empire
Long live the Empire!
ごんどうひろし oh the irony!
Are you going to pillage Manchuria now?
"Rogue Leader, the imperials have landed on Hoth and are moving in our direction! The rebel transports are preparing for evacuation. Take Rogue Squadron to Outpost Beta and intercept any imperial forces you may find! We'll need all the time you can buy."
"Luke, the crew at Outpost Beta is also manning the ion canon. It's providing cover for our transports and their escorts."
"Copy that, Wedge. Rogues, if we lose Outpost Beta, this evacuation won't get past those star destroyers! Alright rogues, stay tight!"
Instant respect to anyone who gets this reference.
If only Dolphin could actually run the gamecube Rogue Squadron games. Terrible framerate, despite having a system which is overkill for it.
10:10 Skywalker here, lets go!
lol
*Death screaming Snowtroopers intensifies*
Star wars battlefront 2 classic when you unlocked luke skywalker
4:28 is when the battle REALLY begins! I love ESB and all of Star Wars Canon and Legends, and I remember this music blasting out of my speakers with me and my dad playing that co-op Hoth level in 2015 Star Wars Battlefront for hours on end!
Only a genius could compose such a complex and epic piece !
Facts
8:11-8:49 Boss fight! Shadows of the Empire!
Nothin' creepier than seeing Slave I or an AT-ST try to blast you to bits.
Heck yeah same thing I thought off! That AT-ST went down!
L. Martinez or the giant diagnoga, in the sewers that wanted to have you for an evening snack, lol
*cough* malevolence *cough*
Read this comment as that part was playing.
Good memories.
Also, I absolutely love how, when the actual battle music for Hoth plays about 4:30 in, the drums and low brass instruments actually simulate the AT-ATs walking, while the more frantic overtures simulate the Snowspeeders.
A stellar track off of a stellar album.
Rip mustache guy. You will be deeply missed.
Nah, Kendal Ozzel was a total failure of an Imperial Officer. And I bet you anything that's what Vader agrees on, too!
i still alive
A work of art, this is. Gotta start that epic Star Wars marathon soon...
“You could’ve called this game Bird Vs Camel, and NO-ONE would’ve argued with you”
11:14 is still my favorite version of the Imperial March.
It is luke helps the rebel soldiers a bit to run away
"your puny skills are no match for the power of the empires music"
Almost 40 years later and this battle still holds up! Even the music still holds up!
It's genius, and most noticeable at 5:13, and 6:05, with the lower instruments.
to this day, so many years after it was made, this music is so much more intense then most modern movie's scores
12:15 John Williams being a badass....I love it.
If this shit isn't in Battlefront's Hoth maps all the time I'm gonna pitch a fit.
+Collin Carter think he meant this part of land in particular the one in the movie is a very flat wide open area with trenches
GuzzolineGuzzler I posted this before they showed a lot of genuine gameplay footage with the music playing. I assumed the music was cued to the trailer, but it's in the actual gameplay as well.
John Williams love the music cues they put in the gameplay
***** I'm playing the beta right now, it's totally there.
+John Williams Unfortunately it's not.
4:02 I really love how Rebels made that the unoffical theme for AT-ATs. Every time we see one, a version of that begins to play.
2:36 is one of my favorite short parts from this entire movement of ESB.
I love it at 9:10 when the base trombones and tubas blare the life out of themselves as the walker is slowly making its way to step on Luke's crashed speeder.
Finally this video, this piece of music is at the amount of views it deserves.
I saw this in the theatre on opening weekend back in '80. When the Imperial Walkers first appeared on the big 70mm movie screen the audience audibly gasped.
5:02 I'll never stop thinking of this part as "The Moment Where It Began To Go Down For Rebels" in this battle.
4:01 - 4:25
God, I love the way that sounds! It fits this movie so well.
Any movie John Williams has composed for makes the movie better!
But the funny thing is that this very part is not in the movie, even though what you wrote is totally true :)
I love that on 12:15 the imperial march swells when Darth Vader shows up
The prep for this battle, to its glorious first stage and conclusion, its a true rollercoaster of excitment! John Williams conjured this masterpiece like a goddamn magician
11:14 - 11:39 "Distance to Powergenerators?" "17,28" - Shots down the last Snowspeeder - "Target - Maximum Firepower!"
Damn hell, I love that coldblooded epic, which General Veers is showing.
