I've had this exact saw for two years now and use it two to three times a week for trail cutting, fire wood and other odds and ends. Absolutely love it. The batteries have held up well and the saw itself has help held up well with zero issues. I have the hart weed eater as well and the batteries interchange between it and the saw. The weed eater is amazing also. Great video by the way !!
When our Lowe’s closed I got a Kobalt 80v chain saw with an 18” bar for 71% off. I had been thinking light battery saw for limbing trees I dropped. Well, with that bar it isn’t light, BUT serves a different purpose. When I go to the lake, the bush, my sister’s rural place, I always took my Husqy in case I needed it. Gas, tools, PPE, etc. Now I just take the battery saw. Way easier to load and less room. Works great for downed trees across the road, knocking down nuisance limbs, even cutting lumber.

Bought the same one two months ago and do not regret it. In my case it is great for trimming overgrown branches with out upsetting the neighbors. I give it a thumbs up.

The color scheme? Well it is one of the few color palettes not in use by another major brand. The brand Hart itself is made by TTI who also makes Milwaukee, Ridgid, and Ryobi. Walmart wanted a new brand for itself since Stanley was letting Black and Decker languish. Glad you liked it.
Happy to see you got a electric saw! Few things about electric I have noticed from owning a Dewalt (all the electrics use the Oregon AdvanceCut chain/bar) over the years: Kick back is low, even with a worn, dull chain. Since the saw stops instantly it really isn't a big deal, and the tooth pitch is pretty small which means it won't grab so hard. I find you don't need the dogs on the saw as much as with electric vs gas(I think it is due to the low kick back, with no engine/cutch moving around and a steady torque curve it just isn't as big of a deal), so the cheap plastic dogs seem to work good enough. You will want to really keep up with filling the depth gauges on the chain since the pitch is small, I'd say do it after every second filling or you'll notice it doesn't cut great pretty quick. Grease bar sprocket at the front to maximize battery life. Since they all use Advance cut, you won't have a problem running an 18" bar on it. Also, if there is a sale on, get a second battery, I know you think you won't need it with the limited cuts, but for some reason I always find I am one cut short no matter what. The other thing is with these high power battery tools is that the batteries can over heat, which will stop the saw. You might find that if you are really going at it you'll need to switch batteries just to let the other one cool down.
That saw looks very good, but if you ever feel like stepping up, don't go midway into the Dewalts or the other tool brands, go to high end ones like the Husq 540i XP, otherwise you'll feel you are not getting your monies worth.
Hope this all helps. Oh yeah, if you got a bunch of cash burning a hole in your wallet maybe get a 3point land scaping rake for the tractor to rake up all the wood debris ;)

I use the EGO 18" saw for trail maintenance and that means cutting felled trees beyond the bar length. It costs twice as much but I have no complaints and it impresses everyone that sees it in action. It's quiet, always "starts" and the 56 volt 5 ah battery lasts dozens and dozens of cuts. I never knew the head light would be useful too! I'm in Geauga county
Love your attitude. Am inundated with big chain saws and you have peaked my interest in battery power. As a general contractor I have a lot of battery powered tools so maybe I will add to my collection with a chainsaw. Excellent presentation.

I love my Ryobi 40 volts, all three of them. Never have they refused to run because of a fouled plug, flooded carb, etc. I sold my gas operated one, and bought a few extra batteries for my battery operated saw. Not looking back to gas.
I recently bought me a Hart 20v impact driver Joe. To be honest I'm real impressed with it. It does just as good as my 20v DeWalt. I have been considering a 40 v chainsaw as well. A very reliable tool to have in your arsenal of tools. Good review buddy. Might have to give this saw a tryout. I can't tell you the many times I have needed this to cut a tree fallen a cross the road and not have a saw to clear a path. Thanks Joe

You are using the saw for just the right purpose. Keep the chain sharp and the battery charged and this is a perfect tool for the job. You'll find that it's frustrating when doing any sort of volume work but, as you pointed out, that's what the big boys are for. Having this on the tractor or utility vehicle when I'm cleaning up trails is perfect. Also, when I'm putting things through the chipper that might need a crotch split or a little extra limbing.
Great video! I see you got this last summer, and I am hoping that over the winter the batteries came inside and stayed warm. I learned the hard way, electric tools with larger batteries like that, the batteries should not freeze.
I have the Atlas 40 volt from Harbor Freight for my secondary saw. I like it a lot, but have only used it a few times. It works but sounds fragile. The Hart in the video has the similar sound but I can tell it is better built. I may be wrong, but the sound of the Hart is “tighter” than the Atlas. I will use the Atlas as long as it lasts because it works for what I need. Good demonstration!
Lol on intro!!! I got my battery chainsaw last year. It’s so practical for short jobs. It’s the only saw in my side by side. My big saws are mostly used to buck 16 in at the yard and felling. The challenge now is making sure I have fresh gasoline.

I bought a Dewalt 16" 60 volt chainsaw and love it almost no vibs and runs a pretty long time.
I have been buying milwaukee battery tools such as a leaf blower hedge trimmers being I already have the batteries from my drills and grinders and I gotta say the chainsaw has been next on my list of battery tools to buy looks like it is carrying it weight in your wood yard so I imagine it will do the same in my wood yard. Funny thing. I am a photographer who refused to switch to digital until my elder son bought me a Kodak digital snapshot camera. I was floored by the quality and moved on to become a big Panasonic Lumix fan. Likewise, as an intermediate handyman, I refused to buy cordless power tools. I did (do) not like that the batteries are proprietary, and was frustrated by the lack of power and longevity of others' tools. I was fine with longest and heaviest cord possible.
Two years ago, my younger son bought me the Hart four-tool 20V kit. I was floored by the power and longevity and on MAYBE two occasions resorted to one of my corded tools.
So, now, today, I got tired of fighting with an older gas- powered Craftsman 14 inch that I bought used a few years ago. I do not use it enough to keep the oil. fuel & plug fresh and ready. I went through a number of options and remembered my beloved Hart set. Your video tells me that I will be no less satisfied choosing Hart.

It was a great video for me. I thought it was probably the right battery chainsaw for me after looking at how easy it cut your logs. I bought one after seeing your video, but didn't get a chance to use it until this past week. I had to take down some dead trees in my yard and I don't own a gas powered saw, but I do have an electric one with a cord from a few years ago that worked well, but i needed more than 100 feet of cord and that was tough as it required me to have 2 cords plugged together, so I bought this and hoped that it would work. Wow, just like your video, it worked and worked well. After working for over an hour cutting and cutting, (smaller logs han yours) the battery still had 3 bars and it cuts through the wood like butter. No complaints from a old homeowner that doesn't have a lot of experience with chainsaws, but like you, I like it and its a keeper. Yes its cheap, it doesn't have some useful features, but it does what I want (cut down old dead trees and trim trees) and I only need to add bar oil and charge the battery and yes, it cuts and trims well and that is what I wanted and needed. My oldest electric chain saw from 20 years ago never worked well, another one that I bought 5-7 yeas ago, worked well, but it needs a cord and it as too hard to go far from my plugs, so this seems to be just the one a homeowner may need and the maintenance is minimal. Thanks for the video, it convinced me to buy one and I'm happy that I did.

Not typically what you see when you think “chainsaw” but I’m thinking of checking out the dewalt version! I already have the batteries for my drills and leaf blower so why not. Makes sense to grab the battery saw and not wake up the neighbors to just cut up a few branches or trim a low branch off a tree. 👍🏻👍🏻
I think the way to go is to have one battery that can run multiple tools.

I literally bought a Dewalt a week ago! I had a bradford pear tree break in half. I have a Husqvarna saw but I cant handle it anymore. In 1985 I was in an accident, I broke my back and and became a Paraplegic. My dad was in the Masonry business so when I was about 5 I started going to work with him toting bricks and blocks. I was probably not much help but over the years it overdeveloped my upper body and when about the same time I wrecked I could use a 200 lb dumbbell and benched over 450 lbs myself weighing 190 lbs. Well I kept the strength and until maybe 8 9 years ago I still used a 14" gas Husqvarna one handed. I am 55 now and like to do as much as I can but I take less risks now and that saw was amazing cleaning up that tree! I made my nephews come and cut up the trunk with a gas saw, but I went all over my property on my zero turn trimming branches that have been in my way for a while! Great little saw!
Just bought this but haven’t used it yet. Had some smaller trees come down due to a recent storm. Looks like it will work for me. Great video!
I've owned that saw for a while now and love it. I also bought the Hart weed eater which uses the same battery. Both tools work very well!
You should give the 18" ego 56v saw a go, I've cut a few cord with one including bucking up ~18" poplars and it's been great.
I have minor wood cutting to do around the yard I just bought. No need for the high end Husqvarna or a good solid Stihl, but this is encouraging. I don't have to worry about storing gas and mixing the oil just right. I just pull it off the shelf and plug the battery in and get to work.

I have a 14 inch 40 volt Ryobi saw that I keep on the Gator when I'm running thru the woods or when I'm at the saw mill. I also have a tool capable weed eater with a pole saw and hedge clipper. Great for quicker jobs. Keep on cutting Joe!
I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. Using it on a Southeast LA farm that was devastated by a Hurricane and has been working absolutely great even cutting huge logs and trees. I’m 79 and love NO more pulling to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021. it is still being sold on the Lowes website as of 5/26/2024 - I use them on a Southeast LA farm of 18 acres of tall large pine trees that was devastated by a Hurricane and tornado. On 10 acres of the property, nearly all the trees are down or dead. My chainsaws have been working great even cutting huge logs and trees up to 20"+ logs and it works great. I am also using the 80-volt 10” Pole saw, lawnmower, and Leaf Blower.
Great video Joe. Yeah sometimes it's nice to have a cheaper saw to just have around for that 1-2 little cuts and not constantly use your expensive saw for the small stuff..

Thanks. I think I'll get one of these tomorrow. Got about 20 small trees that fell over the Winter and I'm just getting too old to mess with cranking on the gas saws any more. I have several Stihl saws from large to small but after a long Winter, some of them take a while to get started and the small jobs just aren't worth all the cranking and carb cleaning. Would be nice to just sharpen and add oil and go.
I’ve got a Kobalt from Lowe’s and same, thing… it works great for the small little jobs or one offs. Thumbs up as well…

I have had shoulder surgery and need more, I really struggle to start any 2 stroke motor. I just bought the 16" Hart saw ( which does have a kickback brake) and I am very impressed with it. It does have a fast charger with it, but the fast charger does not work with the 2.5 ah 40v battery from my Hart hedge trimmer.
Just a homeowner, not a pro but this is perfect for my needs.
I have a whole cordless kit of Hart tools (drill. Impact sawzaw jigsaw few more)
I'm addicted to power saws but like you said sometimes firing up a saw can be a hassle
(40 saws anything from poulan 1800 top handles homelite xl12. Echo cs590 husky 372 and on and on)
I just bought and used the 16inch variant and it's done pretty well so far. It gets clogged up after a bit but I just clean it out. I'd say if your doing a lot get a gas powered. If it's just for occasional work then it's great.

I have seen those HART tools at Walmart. I could see those chips really pouring out of the bottom of the chain saw.

I think every family in the Mahoning Valley had a Chevette at one time... Except us. We had a Vega. Except for the Vega we were the only family in the Valley that drove Fords. At that time this was a GM area.
The battery saws also are good to carry on an atv for trails. Vibration and dust take there toll on gas units. Try ripping with it there torquey little units.

Dolmar is a hoss! My cousin ran a sawmill where he cut special cuts of mostly oak but also cedar and the occasional order of sinker logs. He kept those 19.99 chorded electric saws stationed and in service all over the place, ready to cut in a pinch. They always worked. He had the best looking line up of gas saws in his shop near the cure shed and always had one ready wherever he was working. Running something like that saves a ton of money in time and parts, in the long run.
i have the 20v and 20v/60v Flex Volt Dewalts. I hardly ever use my 021 or 026 Stihl saws now. But I'm not getting rid of them. The Dewalts have a kick back break. I wish they had a better felling dog/bumper spike on both.

I've started buying electric/cordless a lot, saves wear and tear on my expensive gas saws for a lot of stuff. I have a cheap homelite 14" electric saw, I keep an old cord ran to my wood pile from the garage and use it majority of the time. I'd guess that thing has cut 15 or so cords of wood and hasn't failed me yet.
The electric saws were like $50 but I didn't want to mess with a cord.
I have a Dewalt. I love it I cut more than 6 cords with it this year. I've had it for three years, no tune ups necessary. it has a 16" bar and is less powerful than a gas saw. it wouldn't be my choice on a large tree. great for firewood because it always starts.
I have the Milwaukee 18v chainsaw and use it all the time for quick little cuts....they work wonderfully and have tons of torque. Plus all my other batteries work with it as well although they aren't the 5 Ah batteries that came with the saw. At least I have back-ups just in case I need few more cuts on long days.
I think having extra batteries make a lot of sense
having one of those battery powered saws would be really handy to have around the processor and the sawmill. maybe I should to wally world to get one too!!

Waiting for the 6 month review. Things to watch is the chain adjuster and the battery life. AvE channel did a side by side comparison of the DeWalt and Milwaukee 20v saws and the Milwaukee is better made. I may get the 60v DeWalt because path dependence is a thing.
I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. You're correct - I can't believe you bought this chainsaw. That was my initial reaction but on reflection I can understand the logic for your operation. You have occasional need for small volume cuts on smallish logs so it could fit the bill perfectly. Weight shouldn't be an issue in your circumstances but battery lifespan will be a big test. Lack of a chain brake is a serious concern for me. Forty years ago I broke chainsaw rules by sawing when at the top of a ladder. My mains electric Tonka toy type chainsaw kicked back, ran up my left arm and across my chest before my jacket fouled up the chain and stopped it. It took weeks for the semi circle scab from my left wrist to my right nipple to heal. I had a very lucky escape and that's why I will not use a non braked saw again. My lovely 1978 Homelite XL12 saw, bought new, has resided since tied to the rafters of my shop. Keep on Splitting!
Hey Rodney.. Got a question for you., back in the 70s dolmar made a Wankle chainsaw. Its my understanding that most were sold with in Europe.
Any chance you know of someone with one they would be will to sell??

@@DanielAtkinsFirewood Hi Daniel - Big Rodders here. Good to hear from you. Can't help you at all. First I heard about Wankel saws was from you so I had to Google them. Not sure how one would suit the Bold Joe since it's gas powered and I doubt they would have had chain brakes.
@@rodneysweetnam8653 : chain brakes were not installed till the late 80s to mid 90s.. I know that as me Dad got a new echo chain saw in 88 and it was only a few years later they had breaks on them..
If I find one I know it would fit my channel really well but it will be a quest before I find one.. But figured I would ask you just in case as you never know what another person knows..😁👍

I really think that anyone running a processor should have 1 of these as they are so handy for lopping off a few limbs or breaking apart bendy pieces. The electric saws are also remarkably easy to start. There's nothing quite as frustrating as yanking on a pull starter when the engine doesn't feel like starting.

I have been using corded electric saws for over 20 years.
Electric motors work well.
Batteries are probably good enough that for occasional modest use they would be fine.
No fumes/stink as well
The electric saws were even cheaper...$50. I just didn't want to mess with a cord

Hey Joe, bigger isn't always better. I also like running my small Stihl MS170 for cutting branches and stuff. It's light and much easier to handle than the 'real' saws, much less stress for my back. Unfortunately, it's my only saw so far 😬 so I also have to do work with it it's definitely not designed for...🙈 Luckily I have sources to borrow bigger saws when I need to.

Hey buddy wait till 2024 Hart is unbelievable... I have tools from 2024 yes 2 years away yet I'm a beta tester and test all the major tool brands. In 2 years wait till you buy a Hart chainsaw it's like no other. Since milwaukee makes Hart and believe me when I say this Hart is about to be the number 1 tool brand in the country that's 2 years away I signed NDA so I can't so much more . Thanks and I can't wait for them to release these badass Hart tools...
I've seen this saw at Walmart for some time and have always second guess my decision on purchasing it, but after seeing this review I'm gonna give it a try and hopefully it'll also cut through Mesquite wood with ease.

Yep... sidewalk chalk. I have tried everything, magnet sticks, mingo marker etc. I find a tape measure and chalk works best for me.
That looks like a preety decent saw it matches your tractor.I bought a stihl msa140c battery saw 3 years ago one of the nicest tools i ever bought only it cost 3 times more than yours it will cut for 45 minutes on a full charge i bought the better battery 50$ more but worth it.Good luck with it .It will be interesting to see how long it holds up?
Last year I bought the Atlas battery powered pole saw from harbor freight. Boy is that thing awesome. I was able to trim trees all day on 1 battery charge. It made me want to buy the battery powered chainsaw as well, and we're definitely getting the hedge trimmers to use around the farm too. Does Hart have any other tools in their 40v lineup that you would use?

Always took chainsaws as a gas-only thing. But I have a few of the other Hart tools and that's what sold me on it. After seeing how their other equipment held up and (finding this on clearance), I bought one myself and I've been pretty impressed.
I am not a professional logger but I still cut quite good amoumt of oak for my fierplace and friends fierplace. 3.5 years ago I buy the first battery chainsaw Stihl MSA 220C, to make a long story short I end up selling 2 gas power saws and buying 2 more battery saws and a Trimmer witch use the same batteries.
I bought a Milwaukee electric saw. I like it for the same reasons you like yours. It was $200. Yes, $40 more. It has kickback break, But the thing I like most is the Milwaukee battery system. The battery is used in my Milwaukee Weed Whacker and my Milwaukee light. I can use it on a drill or other small Milwaukee tools, but it is kind of big and heavy. I also like this saw for camping because it is relatively quiet. I also like to take it with me on my ATV for the same reason. My only hope is that they will build a mower which takes the same battery or two.

Also the thing with these major brands, they are all basically the same exact for voltage and battery charge. They all use the same old chinese factories to produce the parts. They're not going to design a new part that won't be seen by the customer unless they disassemble it, test it and ensure it functions correctly, only to make the chainsaw slightly better. They're going to use the same parts every other company is using. The only difference is the higher end companies will enact more quality control, to weed out any shitly made parts came from the factory, and because of that, they raise the price.
That and aesthetics. That's about it.
I'm old and hard to start just like my saws all pre primer bulb. Bought a Milwaukee cordless works great for those times when only need to do a couple of cuts usually from downed limbs

Years ago I purchased an Oregon 40V chainsaw and it has worked out well. It has a chainbrake and a built in sharpener. It’s great for cutting up smaller stuff in a pinch.
Your saw held up on the big stuff but when I am cutting into 12” in diameter and bigger I prefer to use a bigger gas powered saw.

Will do John. I'm usually never in a hurry so if this thing takes longer to cut a log I'm not too concerned. I'm curious to see how it does for me
@@ohiowoodburner I know my chainsaw isn’t recommended for logs that big. It can cut them but it is struggle compared to a bigger saw. Your saw might have more advanced technology since it is several years newer and they continue to develop better battery powered tools.
I have a mains powered 14" saw I use to do ALL the cutting around the yard - it was close to €100 so ought be junk - but it isn't. It works full days, quietly.
Look at battery tool companies that offer leaf blowers and weed wackers. Using the same criteria of small quick jobs, I have 3 tools with 2 batteries. Between you and me, I am also a Stihl and Husqvarna master mechanic. Some of my gas powered stuff hasn't run in years.
I have had a plug-in electric chainsaw for 20 years love it stuff the batteries they go bad
They were even cheaper... $50. I knew I would never like messing with the extension cords.
I bought an electric saw just to use at home once I've brought the rounds home. There is always a few cuts that need to be addressed before going throught the splitter and instead of starting a big power saw for a couple of cuts, the electric is the ticket.

Just got one of these new in the box for 105$. Haven't used it yet, but I have the 12 inch 20v Hart saw and it's been great and not having to go get fresh pre-mix is also nice. We have a nice husky, but for the general stuff we use it for, I would rather use this.

I can't say that I like that one perse as I haven't seen it before and I already have a Stihl (yes expensive) battery one and it lives in the back of my Sprinter campervan. Just the thing for getting together some campfire wood, or removing a tree that has fallen across a mountain track.
At Sprinter or Transit is on my 5 year plan list. I want to be a stealth camper.
It has the same colors as everything Hart makes. I tend to invest in tools that have interchangeable batteries so that i minimize the clutter of batteries and chargers. I hate having a pile of chargers and batteries taking up a big chunk of my work bench real estate. I have several Hart items and they work well with the exception of the circular saw which arrived with a busted blade lock making it impossible to install a saw blade. The lawn mower is a particular fave followed closely by their weed whacker but do be sure to get the 40v weed whacker and not the 20v. Electric lawn mower means no more pull starts which has my torn rotator cuff rejoicing. I haven't tried the riding mower but the electric mower is light enough to almost not need the self propelled function. I have seen their scooter in action and its pretty robust so i would have reason to believe that their riding mower which is really just a scooter mower combo also works well. I had been considering the chain saw to do some tree pruning and I think you've decided that I'll pull the trigger on it.
Just the Hart color scheme, understated black and white, but I kind of like style not too flashy. That said I was trying to decide between this and the Atlas, got the Atlas because it came out to be $38 cheaper, I like it so far.

I have the mower with that 40v battery, does feel so weird that it actually does work.
As an arborist, I purchased a Husqvarna battery top handle saw just so I don't need to fiddle wirh the cord in flimsy trees. And I have another battery Husqvarna to cut stuff up when loading my trailer. Batteries last about as long as a tank full of gas. My next step to global dominion is to instal a solar panel to operate the saws "truly green".
Not sure what the name is of the guy that does the tool reviews on you tube but he did an excellent review on the most common brands and the echo and one of the dewalt electrics were at the top and actually beat some of the cheaper gas saws in cutting times. The best lasted about 6 minutes of constant run time though. Still a very useful tool for a homeowner or a pro they're just so convenient for small jobs and they start every time!

Yeah Joe we have three dewalt's in the sawmill for cut of ends and limb's that come in on the deck

I love my electric chainsaw. Often use it for dealing with brush, branches and small trees and I love the absence of exhaust and having to start the damn thing so often.
The little 4 and 6" battery powder is OK cause 20 mins is all i'am going to use it. I cut limbs with it > Mostly cutting up pecan wood for my pits. I like the wood to be chunky, 3" long about 1 to 2" thick
