Damn Houston in his Wes Anderson Hair era love to see it
That auteur glow up though
I recently got in touch with the owner of a historic theater in my little Texas town. I'll definitely check in with him to see if he's interested in screening this doc!
I feel this even from a fan perspective. As a comic fan, I could say I appreciate your work online and send in books to get signed but it is so completely different being able to do it in person.
Houston Coley FASHION ICON! Seriously, I need that button up!
And also wonderful thoughts! Especially what you said about the in-person element. My primary artistic medium is theatre and I cannot describe how wonderful it feels to present something you've worked hard on to a group of real life, in the room with you, people. Great stuff, man.
The title intrigued me and the video itself struck a chord. I think a lot of people have experienced this in recent years with the pandemic, as well as social media's rise in general. Always nice to have vocal reminders of art's intrinsic value.
HE'S BACK!!
Never thought I would see a Houston coley upload today
Man i remember when Houston looked like Peter Parker. Now he’s looking like a Tenebaum.
The Return of the King 🙏😌
Really wonderful thoughts, Houston. Thanks for sharing.
This was some much-needed wisdom I didn't know I needed until now. Thank you for this. I can't wait to see your film when it's made public.
I understand what you're saying in regards to dumping things on streaming vs having the fullest control of your release. I too would prefer to release my material in an in-person setting, and I think any artist wishes for that as well. But as you raised funds on Kickstarter to help you finish the project, I'd think that providing the promised download to the "digital backer" tiers (and above) who helped finance a significant stretch of the production is important as well, especially due to the fact that for most of those folks, life circumstances or being too far away from the premiere showing would hinder them from seeing the final project in theaters. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated that the conversations are going on about the film and L'Abri in these other places but I still can't show the film I helped produce - in my own small way - to my own close friends and family on my own big-screen TV and living room (not on a small laptop screen). Even for bigger projects, directors & producers show the work to their donors/backers before showing to the public. Before now, I can't say I've backed a film, or any kind of art project, that didn't reward their backers with the finished product first before anyone else got to experience it. It's a good way to build up momentum and buzz about the work before moving into a public release (even if they view it on a laptop screen), and an even better way to honor the people who helped make the project happen.
Just my thoughts, and again, I certainly understand where you're coming from. But don't forget about your backers! They're people, too - not algorithms.
I really appreciate your reflections, and particularly your desire to see the film soon! It's a delicate dance, trying to make it accessible without "letting the genie out of the bottle" in a way that would discourage people from coming to in-person showings because the link has already been shared and spread. We’re also still waiting on a few small copyright agreement issues which need to be resolved before we can print discs or share a final version, but definitely aiming to make it more available to backers by the end of the year. That said, I've tried to regularly say in Kickstarter updates that anyone who wants to host a showing can get in touch with me to arrange it. Reach out to me via Kickstarter! If you want to host a screening, even just for a small group in your own home, we can definitely make that happen!
Nice to have you back dude
