I've been rewatching a lot of old episodes during the 2023 winter break, and was so happy to be reminded of this awesome episode. Probably my favorite Nathan piece
It's so cool!! I feel like the final piece has almost an optical illusion feel to it, where the cowboy could either be standing at the top or the bottom of the stairs depending on how you look at it
Drawing Suggestion: The Celebrity sketch artist Challenge: Eldritch horror Edition!!! Each artist picks an "indescribable" horror to "describe" to the other and can only do so with yes or no answers/questions "Is the tentacle to eyeball ratio standard?" "Yes yes it is....."
Okay, with Jacob's Drawing and him by himself going "hey what if uhm encounters with the horrifying unfathomable actually fucked you up and gave you powers", i HAVE to ask again. I posted this a bit before the Finale of TMA, but there's going to be a spinoff so it's again kind of topical: I dream of seeing you guys draw stuff from The Magnus Archives (an AMAZING horror podcast) [If you’re listening to TMA yourself, careful, I might have some spoilers in these]. A lot of the characters are interesting for plot reasons, so I’ll try to pick a few examples for visually interesting ones. Unless you have someone who’s willing to dive into the podcast or knows it to explain a bit about the characters for you, here’s a few that I think could be fun prompts. I tried to make this list long enough to give both an idea of what everything is like and some choice if you want to pick these for each other for lack of someone with knowledge of the podcast. There's so much interesting stuff to say about these characters, but... ya can't really do audio for you guys in the youtube comments, can you? :D - The Monster Pig (it’s a giant Pig. It once ate a man and had to be killed by encasing it in concrete) - Nikola Orsinov. A mannequin come alive to be a ringmaster and dancer in a freaky cursed circus. - The “Werewolf”. A huntsman that is more hunter than human now. He’s described as “everything appeared sharper, his skin, fingers, skin, eyes.” - Jane Prentiss aka The Flesh Hive. She gets possessed/corrupted by a species of white worms that turn her body into a hive. She’s full of holes and worms, basically. Note that she’s still sentient and not part of any kind of hivemind or something, and she loves it. - “The Sandman”, a tall, thin “man” who abducts his victims with some kind of pocket dimension in his puch full of sharp, black sand. One victim escaped by blinding himself with the sand so he wouldn’t see the darkness around him. - Jared Hopworth. I would love to see one of you draw him. Trying to keep it short, Jared became “The Boneturner”, which gave him the power to reshape bones and bodies. Among others, he used that to make his own body really tall and handsome and set up a Gym where he turned people into grotesque creatures. He’s freaky and every episode with Jared messes with Anatomy. - “The Piper”: described like this: no taller than a man and had three faces, one to play its scrimshawed pipes of bone, one to scream its dying death cry and one who did not open its mouth, for when it did blood and sodden soil fell out like a waterfall. Those hands not playing the pipes held an assortment of weapons or held hands up in supplication and one saluted. It wore an olive green wool coat with burnt and scarred skin visible beneath. - Michael aka The Distortion. it appears as a 6.5 foot tall male with long curly straw blonde hair and a round face, or as a human-like being with a thin, limp body with huge, pointed hands that are as large as its torso. Its distorted form is visible if it is viewed through warped glass or in a reflection - Annabelle Cane. described as dressing like “ a vintage clothing store exploded on her“. After the events of MAG 69, one side of her skull is caved in and on subsequent appearances, she has “a mass of white thread criss-crossing all over the side of her temple”.
@@mjamin9124 hell yeah :D the freaky creatures get overshadowed by the avatars often, but I think some of these would be a lot more fun to see. That said, I wanna see Julia draw Jared
Jacob, your concept is called The Magnus Archives... You sorta drew Nicola, Jona-Simon and Michael-Amhurst EDIT: Also, Julia's final piece reminded me of The Magnus Archive's episode Upon the Stair's poem about the man who wasn't there As I was going up the stair I met a man who wasn't there! He wasn't there again today, Oh how I wish he'd go away! When I came home last night at three, The man was waiting there for me But when I looked around the hall, I couldn't see him there at all! Go away, go away, don't you come back any more! Go away, go away, and please don't slam the door... Last night I saw upon the stair, A little man who wasn't there, He wasn't there again today Oh, how I wish he'd go away...
Nathan's is actually lowkey amazing like, without context I feel like I could write a full length college essay on how his render represents cycles of existence, the sunset of one species leads to the dawning of another, allusions to the poem Ozymandias and the fall of the "King of Dinosaurs," and then you listen to Nathan himself talking about it and he's just like "it's just a little guy!" and then I feel silly for assigning all this meaning to a cool drawing of a dinosaur.
Eh. Art is, in part, what we take from it. There's a song I love that I took my current name from thats about a theoretical physicist. They didn't mean to inspire hope in me by talking about endless possibilities but it brings me joy in that way because it sounded like it was talking to me directly. Don't feel like you need to be held back by anything, pouring your heart into your personal analysis is part of enjoying art!
julia’s final piece, with the hard shadow/soft lighting, is giving SUCH indie game! the torch light adds so much depth and it looks as if the cowboy is about to just BOOK IT down the stairs at you 💖
Julia has elevated the phrase “delete your art” with this one. Truly what the fuck. She did it so casually too! EDIT: Now that I’ve finished the episode, as much as I loved Julia’s first two pieces and was sad to see them go, I feel like with each attempt she got closer to the vibe the theme and setting prompt had, and the art just gets better and better. I’m glad she had the courage to just scrap the pieces and move on, such an incredible example of trusting the process. Anyway delete your art.
That bit in Nathan's render when a series of random shapes suddenly turned into rock textures was so viscerally satisfying, I actually went, "Ooof!" with the impact of it.
Nathan's absolutely beautiful piece with revolutionary themes that utilizes fantastic storytelling to explore the under-appreciated non dinosaur life from prehistory appealed to me on so many levels. I just wonder what he was about to say about it when Julia made the dinosaurs coming back joke, it sounded like it was going to be meaningful.
From left to right (Jacobs characters): Faeth St. Carly, Endrid Iris, and Calio McGuilligan. Names all based off of their respective eldritch horrors (Faeth has demon powers so the name plays into the religion theme) (Endrid is like ‘End’ and ‘Rid’ and Iris is in reference to the eye powers, so she is the eye that can see to the end of time) (Calio as in Call-o’ like call of Cthulhu and McGuilligan because it sounds sailor-esque).
Absolutely loving Jacob's Cosmic Horror Crew. Characters without visible eyes is always a winning design. Give 'em a mask, give 'em bangs, give 'em a brimmed hat that casts a heavy shadow.
From right to left I call Jacob's characters, "The Spectral Tendril", "The All-Seeing Guy", and "The Imp-pending Victory". Together they are "The Harbingers of Courage".
i know this is a sort of old episode, but i really liked what nathan said: "in these times of downfall, there are these changes that happen, these entities that seemed all powerful suddenly arent anymore (...) and these little insignificant guys suddenly have a big- big bright future". it reminded me of that ursula k le guin quote, "we live in capitalism. its power seems inescapable. so did the divine right of kings." it fills me with hope for a different better future :)

Julia: three whole ass cool, moody pieces in three hours? You are a raving lunatic and I hope you never change.
Karina: you’re great too and even without a speed draw today, your presence enriches drawfee so much.
Absolutely agree. Summarized my feelings in the most succinct way possible. Thank you for giving words to my thoughts

Maybe it's just because I'm a sucker for anything dinosaur, but Nathan's piece goes so hard??? Like, that has to be one of my favorite illustrations I've seen in a while.
Jacob: the setting is Lovecraftian...
Me: :)
Jacob: and the theme is Face your fears!
Me: THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES IS A PODCAST CREATED BY RUSTY QU
My first thought when I saw the preview
also ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD
MY GOD I KNEW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HERE!!!!!!
hello jon apologies for the deception but-
@@marquisdeposa1456 All Hail. And now... the weather. (I could go for two different jokes here, either the Night Vale one where a song starts playing, or the punny one where I just say 'All hail' again)
@@cinderblock8369 nOOOOO
Nathan's piece is genuinely so amazing and atmospheric, my dinosaur-documentary-obsessed child self is losing their mind
I hope with whatever Nathan was trying to talk about with how “downfall” was pertinent to his life currently, just hope he’s doin’ okay.
Ideas for Jacob's character names: maybe Val or Valentine for the devil one, Isobel for the eye lady, and Magnus for the tentacle dude? Everybody did a great job, as always! :D
Jacob's idea was like the The Magnus Archives was a cartoon. I would love to watch that
Those are som avatars for sure!
REAL cartoons plus the magnus archives would truly be my dream come true
Jacob basically describes the plot of the Magnus archives podcast. Incredible!
Every day we get closer to Nathan's Book of Dinosaur Lies
I hope it's a coloring book!
All of them are good, but I looove Julia's final piece. The perspective is so wonky it feels like I'm about to fall *down* those stairs. It's such a fascinating and unsettling energy. I love it!
I love that Jacob designed without trying the avatars for the fears of The Magnus Archives
Right?!?
Totally
I've been rewatching a lot of old episodes during the 2023 winter break, and was so happy to be reminded of this awesome episode. Probably my favorite Nathan piece
God the perspective in Julia's is absolutely incredible. She always makes the wildest scenes, I love it
It's so cool!! I feel like the final piece has almost an optical illusion feel to it, where the cowboy could either be standing at the top or the bottom of the stairs depending on how you look at it
I really want to see the second piece worked out, that one got me good for a minute (and then it got deleted, lol)
I got some really heavy '20s german expressionist film vibes from her second drawing and it kinda hurt to see it go
Does Jacob even know... Does he even REALISE that he basically just did Magnus Archives oc fanart...
Jacobs middle person has very Jon the Magnus archives vibes and I love that for her
Well.. considering how it ends, I hope they experience love and DONT do the thing (no spoilies hopefully)
I caught Sigourney Weaver vibes
nathan's art truly has the vibe of one of those kids learning books with illustrations.... and i LOVE IT
Nathan: the concept and atmosphere are amazing
Jacob: I love the shapes and bold colors
Karina: thanks for coming
Julia: goddamn it
Jacob's piece is so unbelievably close to The Magnus Archives, I'm losing my mind
Drawing Suggestion: The Celebrity sketch artist Challenge: Eldritch horror Edition!!!
Each artist picks an "indescribable" horror to "describe" to the other and can only do so with yes or no answers/questions
"Is the tentacle to eyeball ratio standard?"
"Yes yes it is....."
Love this idea
@@mewithyouu Thank you
I liked this idea before, but now I really want it.
maybe going off of versions of them from Persona or other Shin Megami Tensei stuff could work
I bet a bunch of these answers would be something like "maybe" or "I'm not sure"
As a writer who tends to fuse horror and magical girl/superhero aesthetics, Jacob’s drawing SPOKE to me. Thank y’all for the amazing art!!
i just want an episode of everyone drawing Nathan in different famous franchises
Jacob's piece is giving me strong Magnus Archives vibes and I'm so here for it
jacob’s concept is just if the magnus archives was a cartoon network production
I came down here looking for a fellow Magnus fan that had this exact thought, and I was not dissappointed!
I was thinking the exact same thing! It's all there, right down to the eye imagery lol
YES i too just commented about the magnus archive-ness of his piece very glad there are fellow magnus archives fans in the comment lmao
I'm honestly surprised there isn't more of us Magnus fans in the comments.
Thought the TMA and Drawfee fandoms would overlap xd
Okay, with Jacob's Drawing and him by himself going "hey what if uhm encounters with the horrifying unfathomable actually fucked you up and gave you powers", i HAVE to ask again. I posted this a bit before the Finale of TMA, but there's going to be a spinoff so it's again kind of topical:
I dream of seeing you guys draw stuff from The Magnus Archives (an AMAZING horror podcast)
[If you’re listening to TMA yourself, careful, I might have some spoilers in these].
- The Monster Pig (it’s a giant Pig. It once ate a man and had to be killed by encasing it in concrete)
- Nikola Orsinov. A mannequin come alive to be a ringmaster and dancer in a freaky cursed circus.
- The “Werewolf”. A huntsman that is more hunter than human now. He’s described as “everything appeared sharper, his skin, fingers, skin, eyes.”
- Jane Prentiss aka The Flesh Hive.
Its distorted form is visible if it is viewed through warped glass or in a reflection
- Annabelle Cane. described as dressing like “ a vintage clothing store exploded on her“. After the events of MAG 69, one side of her skull is caved in and on subsequent appearances, she has “a mass of white thread criss-crossing all over the side of her temple”.
YES
@@zoeymokan6317 dude just imagine Nathan's Monster Pig or Julia's Jared
honestly just saving this as a personal reference because i always forget who some of them are
worm wife
@@mjamin9124 hell yeah :D the freaky creatures get overshadowed by the avatars often, but I think some of these would be a lot more fun to see. That said, I wanna see Julia draw Jared
Jacob, your concept is called The Magnus Archives... You sorta drew Nicola, Jona-Simon and Michael-Amhurst
EDIT: Also, Julia's final piece reminded me of The Magnus Archive's episode Upon the Stair's poem about the man who wasn't there
As I was going up the stair
I met a man who wasn't there!
He wasn't there again today,
Oh how I wish he'd go away!
When I came home last night at three,
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall,
I couldn't see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don't you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don't slam the door...
Last night I saw upon the stair,
A little man who wasn't there,
He wasn't there again today
Oh, how I wish he'd go away...
REAL REAL REAL so glad we all decided this episode was magnus archives themed
on a technicality Nathan's drawing could be considered the extinction - just prehistoric
No doubt about it, my favorite episode in magnus
Glad I wasn’t the only person who thought about this 😭
Nathan's little "enjoy your delete concept" was very underrated
Don't feel like you need to be held back by anything, pouring your heart into your personal analysis is part of enjoying art!
julia’s final piece, with the hard shadow/soft lighting, is giving SUCH indie game! the torch light adds so much depth and it looks as if the cowboy is about to just BOOK IT down the stairs at you 💖
Nathan at the cusp of an existential spiral. Then getting completely reset by Julia's joke
Nathan's speed draw in this episode is quite possibly my favourite thing ever created by Drawfee. It's so COOL.
Same
OBSESSED with jacob's characters forever and always. the gender. the range. the DRAMA. UGH
That bit in Nathan's render when a series of random shapes suddenly turned into rock textures was so viscerally satisfying, I actually went, "Ooof!" with the impact of it.
I appreciate how many of Julia's Drawfee drawings are performance art.
I love their team hype! they notice when someone is struggling and they just hype each other up so much and I think that's beautiful.
I'm so glad that in this 3 artists episode we got to experience 5 finished art pieces.
Julia's process felt like slap, kick in the shins and then a kiss on the forehead. Delightful and thoroughly enjoyed it
obsessed with the polycule that jacob drew
Just imagine a group hug from tentacle guy.
From left to right (Jacobs characters): Faeth St. Carly, Endrid Iris, and Calio McGuilligan. Names all based off of their respective eldritch horrors (Faeth has demon powers so the name plays into the religion theme) (Endrid is like ‘End’ and ‘Rid’ and Iris is in reference to the eye powers, so she is the eye that can see to the end of time) (Calio as in Call-o’ like call of Cthulhu and McGuilligan because it sounds sailor-esque).
julia continues to turn her speed draws into performance pieces
Absolutely loving Jacob's Cosmic Horror Crew. Characters without visible eyes is always a winning design. Give 'em a mask, give 'em bangs, give 'em a brimmed hat that casts a heavy shadow.
I cant believe Jacob accidentally invented The Magnus Archives.
Holy shit, a TMA themed episode would be amazing
was looking specifically for this comment 🙌🙌🙌
I was looking for this one.
THANK YOu I thought I was the only person in this region of the venn overlap
I was looking for this comment!!!!
From right to left I call Jacob's characters, "The Spectral Tendril", "The All-Seeing Guy", and "The Imp-pending Victory". Together they are "The Harbingers of Courage".
Jacobs horror plot is sounding a lot like the Magnus Archives to my untrained ears...
It is to my trained ears as well...
all TMA fans know TMA is everywhere
Same
Make your statement, face your fears.
I was about to comment the same thing!!!
i know this is a sort of old episode, but i really liked what nathan said: "in these times of downfall, there are these changes that happen, these entities that seemed all powerful suddenly arent anymore (...) and these little insignificant guys suddenly have a big- big bright future". it reminded me of that ursula k le guin quote, "we live in capitalism. its power seems inescapable. so did the divine right of kings." it fills me with hope for a different better future :)
Julia’s last one looks like
you paused an indie horror game right before a jump-scare
I actually read it as trying to walk down the saloon stairs while drunk lmao.
Nathan's drawing was really unique and a great use of coloorrs, I luv it
Suggestion: Nathan, Karina and Julia draw the bad guys for Jacob's Lovecraftian universe
sometimes I listen to drawfee in the background while doing other things, but at ~5 minutes I tabbed back in and I was like oh yeah, I should watch this. I really enjoy watching y'all's process, and especially with the sort of piece Nathan did in this one. Lovely almost collage like flats and then painterly finishing
I've lost track of how many times I've requested this challenge but I shall keep it up!
PUNK PERSONIFICATION CHALLENGE!!
Each of you chooses one of the literary subsets of punk and draws a character personifying it! Examples include but are not limited to cyberpunk, steampunk, dieselpunk (my personal favorite), atompunk, biopunk, etc.
Always happy when Nathan busts out the lineless style for one of these!
Jacob just described the plot of the Magnus archives
julia's second attempt???? absolutely incredible. also obviously her end result piece was amazing
man this ep has all the classic drawfee moments: julia doing a brilliant intricately designed piece and then immediately yeeting it into the trash, jacob and nathan sharing a single braincell, bones, karina's there...
the sheer magnus archives energy of jacob's characters ,,,, /pos
