The Dominican Order was formed in the 13th century with the purpose of combatting the Cathar and Waldensian heresies. The Jesuit Order was formed in the 16th century with the purpose of combatting the Protestant heresy. Interesting to note that both orders were Spanish in origin, being formed by St. Dominic and St. Ignatius of Loyola respectively.

When people who aren’t familiar with Christianity read the 4 gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, what they should understand is there was never a demoniac or witch who had to be put to death on the Lord’s behalf, they always received exorcism and deliverance through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Thanks for this video. These days I am understanding that much social and political turmoil is fueled by ignorance of the past and intentional misinformation. I am glad that rational sources exist to help clarify matters.

It is quite rare to come across reasonable information on the topic. Kudos to you. Yes, the secular courts were feared to such an extent that the accused often petitioned for their cases to be heard with by the inquisition.
Anyway. It is fitting that today's on-the-street knowledge of, for example, the Spanish Inquisition comes from the "authoritative take" of a farsical comedy.

The extreme methods of making an inquisition or ending a hierarchy are, by today's standards, insane. And while some sadists joyfully hunted victims, most supported the actions believing they were a last-ditch attempt to save a heretic soul. We cannot imagine burning at the stake could in any way be a good thing, many honestly believed that punishment would trigger repentance and s last-minute salvation. Thus an evil act could have a rescuing end, making it an exception to the law of the church and the government.
