Great info for people to consider. I sent to a late hatch one loft race and the transparency is not there. They put in their updates to call if the bird info needs correction but didn't correct my bird's bands after 2 calls and multiple emails. Disappointing. Wish a lot of loft managers would be more transparent and complete what they said they'll do.
Oh that sounds frustrating!! 😢 I’ve experienced bad communication with one OLR last year and it is the worst not knowing what’s happening or when things are going to start up. Literally 4-5 months went by without ANY communication from the manager. And now the race no longer exists bc the manager was caught cheating. Hard to be surprised
pretty cool James congratulations. good info. i am thinking of trying an olr if all goes well in breeding i only have 3 pairs and so far just 2 eggs today. Anyway good info as always.
Good video with great OLR info.. Congrats James on the nice placing at the BGR. If only that bird would have taxied right in after hitting the runway. That had to be frustrating.. The Martinez Classic will be a fun one.. They'll be taking birds starting Feb 1st. Maybe you could do a vid on how to ship birds to an OLR.. From vaccinating, boxing the birds, shipping info needed and what happens at the PO when you go there to ship them. Also, the best time of day and the best day of the week to do that. A dry run of course. 🙂
Congrats James!! As always great video, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. What’s up with the breeders, are you done or have you not started breeding yet?
Thanks my friend! Appreciate it! Would you believe that I haven’t put them together yet? 🙄😭😭 I’ve been swamped with other life things. I usually put them together in mid December
@Hugo Carranza.. I'll see you at the final race at the Martinez as well Hugo! Providing the birds make it to the final.. LOL. Mario and the family do a great job with the birds.. The east course will be a fun and tough one!
@@ausfuhrpramienjagar this will be a great year. Piet DeWeerd said it… “this is the toughest course in the world” 🌎 if your pigeons can fly this course they can fly almost any course in the world.
@@CarranzaHugo . You're absolutely right.. There's nothing easy about flying across the high desert and then having to negotiate the 7,000 ft Sierra Nevada range and then dropping down into the central valley into a hot and usual headwind for the last 75 miles to get home..
I followed Texas Dash for Cash last year I was impressed . I think there are 87 Olr in USA if I was in USA Texas Dash for cash would be one of the races I would compete in .
i have perches reserved at several OLR for this season, and i am TRYINg to get the money together to buy a band for a band race- cheaper, but you have to pick the bird early...@@RFRP
When he was a YB he hit a golf course net and broke his wing. Someone found him and contacted me. I bound up the break but it was right at the juncture of his elbow. When that happens the bones typically fuse in birds as they heal which is what happened to him. He cannot bend that joint anymore but at least he is alive and happy ☺️
You know the secret to making a small fortune in OLRS. Start with a large fortune!!! 😂😂. That being said I'm doing the black and gold, sooner, Nashville classic 1st year. And gonna try the motor city classic lol!
😆 Yes!! That’s what is missing in my equation, the starting large fortune. It is true, though. One should not enter OLRs solely for the pursuit of money. Go to olrstats.com and under breeders you’ll see most people do not come out on top. Good luck at those races my friend!! 🙂
@RFRP I thought first drop meant literally dropping.. sometimes at home ill get literally a bunch of birds dropping together..in this situation if my friend called me I would have said yeah I got 15, i got one on the drop and I had to push him in and the rest circled once or twice more... But they didn't push them in they just left called them in. 🙄 oh well . Different from club racing I suppose.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!! But without a perch fee how will loft managers pay for feed, grit, vaccinations, vitamins, road training, etc.? And how would loft managers be compensated? This is a business for them. They have to make money too, right?
@@RFRPThe same way that OLR get paid that do not charge perch fees . The lofts that do not charge perch fees the organisers take a percentage of activation fees . No perch fees the organizer has to be on top of his game or he does not get paid . Perch fees are of no benefit to the participants they benefit the organisers of the race .
Congratulations at Black Gold! Very happy for you!
Thanks my friend!! Appreciate hearing that from one of the “Big Dogs” 🙂

Very informational and helpful specially to beginners who are new to the hobby.
Glad to help out! 🙂
Congrats James! Awesome to see your birds do well. Great job.
Thank you!! Really appreciate that my friend!!
Congrats James
Many thanks my friend!!
Congratulations on your equal first pigeon at BGR .
Many thanks!! ☺️
Great post James, sounds like all the info you/we need to study, thank you. Congrats for the winning bird.
Thank you kindly Jeff!! Really appreciate it!

Go for it! It’s fun to be able to fly against so many fanciers in an even playing field. Good luck!!
Congrats on the Black Gold! Yoanny does a great job!
Thanks so much! BGR is one of the top OLRs in the US. Yoannys does do an amazing job. I’ll be there every year I can afford to
@@RFRP you should be set for a few years at least. Lol.

Good insight into what to look for 😁. I had to learn some of these lessons the hard way. Great video!
Thanks for the feedback Jason! Appreciate your support!
watching your boys show off and try to impress....
They are definitely trying!
Excellent video James. Very informative about choosing OLR. Very important. Congratulations 🎊🍾🎈
Congratulations to the two of us! 😁
Congratulation James !🎉
Thank you!! ☺️
loved the info .... and it was fun to watch your bird hit the board at BGR..congrats
☺️ Thanks my friend!!
Video everything in my opinion.
🥰 You are too kind! Thank you!

Great idea, Kevin! Happy to do that! And thanks for the kind words! The first drop bird was also 6th average speed. She’s good one!

Yes! Dash for Cash is another excellent race that checks all the boxes.
Nice black there, James!
Thanks! Yes, We’ve picked up 2 more black cocks in the past year. 😍
What is the name off the floorboards in your outdoor space?
That’s expanded metal 🙂
So you're saying size matters... oh well, it won't stop me from trying. Congrats on RFRP 107! Equal 1st and 6th average speed. Super little bird💪💪💪
Without hesitation I’ll say your OLR is my favorite ☺️

@@RFRP 😆 🤣 I'm gonna keep sending them, you do the same ! Congrats and good luck 👍
Wow you had that rave won!! Thats bs they call it first drop. I guess they showed up in one flock? She just landed first and trapped last?
They did all come together. I didn’t show the first lap of them circling around together. She landed first and trapped 14th

I have never been a fan of OLR charging perch fees . I would not consider entering a OLR that does .
