First 2023 OLR birds back: Hoosier Classic and Little Loft on Hill
We built this trap based on this video. After 2 weeks a few of the birds have figured out how to get back out. Any suggestions I can do to stop this before the rest learn how?
@@BarbMuleLover if you put a dowel with a section of 1/2” pvc pipe at the bottom it serves as a roll bar. Birds will have nothing to grab onto that’s stable. I’m surprised your birds got out! Racing pigeons, or a smaller flying breed?

I have a cockatiel with a compound fracture in about the same spot, took her to the vet and he wrapped it. When I got home she was bleeding heavily. So i took it off and will try this method. She never bled til he started messing with it. 😢 Should i wait a few days for her open wound to close? No vets around here are good with birds, exotic would cost an arm and a leg.
@@courtnieweatherford124 I don’t think I’d wait for the open would to heal more. Just wrap it so it’s secure. Use A little super glue to close the open wound; it works great! Good luck and keep me posted!

I have one here now and he is an absolute menace lol, I used the cohesive bandage and micropore tape but he still manages to pull it off.
@@debbskyj Oh no!! Sometimes it takes several attempts to get the bandage set in such a way that it’s stable and the bird can still walk around. Best wishes!!

That is a Very Nice Specimen alright, name that one BLUE THUNDER because he’s Blue plus he’s going to be one of those special birds that carry “The Thunder” at those One Loft Races
You should take flights in small aircraft, see what the birds see at thousands of feet. Probably be amazed at how far you can see from those heights, what stands out, etc. Considering that your birds detoured slightly is interesting. Might want to work around that. Thanks for uploading. Cheers

From my experience : If the 8th flight's tip is look like a knife then it will do better in the race. If the last two flight are also look like a knife then it will be the winner in the race. This birds last flight is not like a knife.... But it will do better in the race

Thats what I don’t want to happen. I have a Pigeon with a broken wing, that fights me every step, but likes when I feed her and give her water. Now her family is hanging at my front door pooing everywhere. My wife hate that!

You also are close with Nemelka and have some of his blood., and I bet Joe would help you with late hatches... . EIther way I think youll be just fine with the birds you have left and can now focus on building your own lines that you dont have to ever give up! Anyways .. Sorry for the loss dude!

I have 2 birds coming from Falco Ebben’s loft. One thing I will say is don't be tempted to interfere with birds of pray. It won't work, and you might end up in court!
@@anthonymason385 I actually really like birds of prey. I know that’s an unpopular opinion among pigeon fanciers but I think they are very cool despite being such a headache with pigeons
I like them too. They are cool. Crow calls, stuffed owls, and so on won't work. Three things I did. 1. Have your loft on the most open ground you have. This allows the pigeons to get a head start. Under a tree like you have would allow even a female sparrow hawk to take birds. 2 Birds belong in the air or in the loft in areas with high birds of pray numbers. In the off-season, keep inside the loft away from prying eyes. 3. Breed 20% more than you need. This allows natural selection around the loft. Remember, pigeons WILL meet their arch enemies, the long winged falcons when racing. Also, remember, and this is a cold, hard fact. Every year, we breed replacements for our losses. So if a pigeon can't out manoeuvre a falcon around the loft, what chance if far from home on unfamiliar ground.

Hi, your first problem is the positioning of your loft. Move it to open ground, not underneath trees. The second thing I recommend is training your birds to be in the loft or in the air. The third thing I recommend is only letting your birds out during their racing season. So, in the off-season, no birds are visible. Letting birds out year-round is effectively feeding the birds of pray. You are conditioning them to hang around as your garden is one giant bird table for carnivores! I hope this helps. It worked for me in Ireland.
