I just got the complete edition for about $8 and have been playing it with a friend. It's pretty fun in co-op so far with the enjoyable lore tidbits and character combos. From my short time playing it so far... I would recommend it whenever it goes on sale.
The review is good but since the title is more for the co-op. You forgot to focus to give a review mainly on that part. I didn't get much information regarding about the aspect as playing with someone. How it goes when you play as a host or a guest. That's what I wanna know when I saw your title. What are the pros and cons as a guest. The information you mainly give is when you are playing single player. The title is a bit misleading, as you give too little information on that part.
appreciate the feedback. the whole co-op experience is very streamlined. one guy opens their game up as host, can invite one other player. can join in and out of games seamlessly and that whole part is good. anyone can play as any character and you level up characters together. if you play online (like i did) you can each move around on your own, didn't try local play, but i imagine it restricts you to the same screen. main issue is maybe that co-op makes the game way easier than singleplayer, but still enjoyable to play together and fight together
This was an absolute great game. It somehow manages to feel new and unique and nostalgic at the same time. Both the story and the combat had me gripped from the start. This blows most AAA games and indies out of the water!
Decent review, did feel slightly repititive at times (bergson family, co-op better than solo). I like that you have a 'thing' with the poem at the start, almost feels like a cold-open 👍
thanks for checking it out! yeah def a bit repetitive (i even say "for the third time... you play as the bergs"). i'm actually playing around with different openings, but i do know a good number of ppl like the poem openings
the story mode its really fun in coop, but family trials are absurd, theres a lot of buggs and the lvl of the altars its just unfair in higher difficulties, game could have more features on family trials, but still a very fun game to play coop
if co op is ur goal - morta is solid, but maybe look into games like enter the gungeon, binding of isaac. there's some other great co-op games out there, but might not be the same genre
A little bit of a nitpick, there's an important nuance between "rouge-likes" and "rouge-lites". A lot of people use them interchangably, but under more strict definitions, a "rouge-like" has no permanent upgrades and thus has perma-death (think Noita), while a "rouge-lite" has permanent upgrades that transmute between runs without perma-death (this game is more of a "rouge-lite" than a "rouge-like").
Glad you liked it. I played it solo and couldn't get into it. Found it a tid to hard and had problems to progress. Also never got that feeling of a cool run with powerups going like in other rogue likes. Thanks for the review. Looking forward to the next one!
thanks for checking it out! yeah if i'm being honest - i wouldn't recommend the game based on my solo experience. like you said, it can feel really difficult solo. personally would recommend hades or a number of other rogue-likes before it, unless you're specifically looking for co-op play
thanks! depends on the types of games ur into. I'd say Hades is probably the peak. Risk of rain 2, slay the spire, spelunky, one step from eden, enter the gungeon, dead cells - some other stuff but again depends on the types of games you like
@@JamesLikesGames I'm actually searching for alternatives to hades and dead cells and noita. Especially Noita is my favorite. But its hard to find games with such big item pools and variety of runs.
I enjoyed the review. I disagree alot though :) . Particularly regarding the character viability thing. I agree some characters feel easier when you first pick the game up, but all can be surprisingly viable and get CRAZY powerful... once you get used to their playstyle. E.g. I hated the hammer character at first, thinking his crowd control and survivability were hopeless (aside from his somewhat more tank-y health pool). However, after forcing myself to play as him in order to get his family bonuses, I now find him easier to use and survive with than even the ranged characters. The guy melts enemies, if you know where to position him best in each fight, and take advantage of his skills carefully. I was going to say that the ranged characters are easiest to start with, but are limited to narrow lines of fire - while the melee ones get crazy powerful once you learn how to use them and position their swings/slashes, and let rip with their abilities at the best times. However, after a little googling, I found a bunch of people who even seemed to find the melee ones easier to use at the start of the game than the ranged ones, so maybe it is just down to personal preference after all ;) . (I should say, I have pretty much finished the main story at this point, but haven't touched the family trials mode. Maybe some of those challenges would make me feel differently about specific characters' viability. I guess I'll have to see.)
haha all good! obviously this is just based off my experience and even with hours put in, it's hard to play and get an opinion on every character and combo. i personally also did not like the hammer guy, and found that other melee characters felt way better personally. i still think they are viable, but some just feel easier to use than others
depends on what ur looking for. if co-op is the big sell, i'd still say morta is a good choice but maybe consider looking at games like enter the gungeon if ur ok with solo - hades is prob my fav of the genre
depending on how old/skilled the other player is... binding of isaac has multiplayer as well, but the 2nd player dynamic isn't as good as morta here. risk of rain 2 (not sure if it has local coop), spelunky, and maybe even a game like one step from eden might scratch similar itches
@@JamesLikesGames well, I do like Binding of Isaac, but I don't enjoy the type of roguelikes that have some sort of upgrades and cranked up difficulty that forces you to die a couple of times and purchase those upgrades to succeed :D
Iranian development and i hope one day shaname name of old persian history of iranian myths demon dragon heros name of rostam and iranian gods and myths
Iran people did this game A good leap for Iranian developers I love the morality of the story The characters were a real family who fought to erase Infidelity? I guess? I dont remember the word i played it on a free weekend

$8 sounds pretty solid!
Im buying it now !
I'm blown away by the narration and story. Though not quite worth the price without the discount. When there's a discount, it's worth a try.
im in total agreement. definitely would wait for a discount personally
Thank you Shummy! I was the narrator.

Excellent review! Thank you very much. I especially like your quick manner of talking, concise and informative. No blah blah.
thanks for checking it out Stefan!
The games story animations look stunning. Nice vid
thanks for checking it out as usual man

glad you liked it!
I absolutely LOVED the game, from the start to the end, playing Single player.
Now I'm loving it more, playing in co-op with my bro.
Great game.
bro this INTRO... UUUUUUGHGHHG
it was so clean, gg
thanks :D
I know I'm late to the party but I just bought this game friday and yes it is very good.

I’m looking for a couch co-op rpg like this but with up to 4 players without splitting screen
Love the Sims music in the background lol
one of the best game soundtracks ever!
u said u played some similar games that u can reccomend? what are these ^^ thx alot
do u care about the co-op?
purely gameplay-wise, id say hades is my fav of the genre. much faster paced game

isn't 'rouge-lite' just pink ;)
thanks! yeah i'll def be more careful about the distinction going forward. i'll try and remember it as lite = rogue, but not quite
So you said in the beginning of the video that you hadn't blown away like other similar games, so what are those other games???

Skill issue
You mention not being blown away as much as with other comparable games. What are those other games you prefer?
biggest ones i name usually are hades, risk of rain. lots of good options tho like binding of isaac, slay the spire, gungeon, etc

i actually never played Noita yet - but personally i feel like hades is the pinnacle and pretty hard to beat. maybe binding of isaac?
@@JamesLikesGames I feel like I've played every good rouge like/lite that's been released by now😂 I'm hoping on new games.
@@Kekatze I might be a bitlate to the party but... Vagante was a great game. Has an awesome coop. Feels more like the traditional roguelike gameplay.

yes unfortunately. don't think 3 or 4 player would've worked balance wise

Is it possible to co-op with 4 players or just 2? Thanks!
just 2

I’m about to buy this over Diablo 2, looks more fun
Can you coop on PS5? Can't figure out how
hmm i didn't play on PS5 so i'm not 100% sure, but i believe there should be an option or button to start a co-op session somewhere?
