    Hope you enjoyed the video! It came out slightly more negative to Children of Morta than I originally intended, but it's a good game overall. I've also been playing a lot of Roguebook lately, so be on the lookout for a review on that sometime soon.

    The number one thing for me that's a bummer playing this game is that the movement just feels floaty. I cannot get over it, there's like no inertia or weight to the feel.

    I'm playing through this at the moment, and I gotta say, while I enjoyed your take, I kind of disagree in part, specifically in regard to the melee characters being underpowered compared to the ranged. I agree that when you first start in the early dungeons, the ranged ones feel easier to pick up for most people. However, after I forced myself to play some of the melee characters that I had been avoiding (because I wanted to get their family bonuses), I quickly realised that if you have your tactics and knowledge of the abilities right, you can melt enemies like butter. Even faster than the ranged characters can, alot of the time. For example, I initially had real problems with the barbarian/hammer character - feeling like he had no good options for crowd control or survivability (beyond being just a health tank). Now he is my most used character, and I find him easier to use defensively than the 2 ranged characters. I'd say the combat feels more about positioning than just simply 'kiting enemies around'. If you work out the best place to stand, and which abilities to let rip at the right times, you can absolutely destroy. (Edit: To be fair, I haven't played around with the family trials mode yet, so maybe my opinion will change when I have to deal with some of the different challenge modes. At the moment I reckon I'm about one or two dungeons away form completing the main story. Also, who am I kidding... the combat can for sure be super kitey, if you choose to play it that way, with the characters that reward it.)

    Being older, I vaguely was reminded of GAUNTLET game series. Too much action for me, but I hope fans don't overlook this game.

    Nice. Video.
    I heard that your next video was about this game but couldn't wait for it so I bought it after your tier list and finished it just for this video.
    You mention some good points. I played the archer as my main character and the ranged characters are definitely stronger than the melee ones. The family trials mode is a good addition to keep the players since it is more what one would expect of a roguelike game.
    My verdict is: If you want a game where you train your kiting skills and a good story but also a roguelike where you can go back to and just play a run then Children of Morta might be the right game for you.

    • @InsertReviews
      @InsertReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with that verdict! The game has a ton of kiting around, and that's really a big part of the combat. I liked that for a while, but I think the amount of kiting got a little boring to me after ~15 hours which made me take a break. I do like how quick the runs are too, and I'll probably drop back into it in my new game plus save for that reason.

      Ou shows no remorse for his actions and he doesn't go through any sort of redemption or even mental shift. He's basically an abusive partner who actively kills his partner's creations because of his own anger and sorrow (which was caused by his own jealousy in the first place). To me, their reunion without that redemption arc just read as accepting of Ou's abuse because he lost a fight which runs counter to the idea of a loving family (i.e. not abusive). If he had gone through a redemption arc, I might have enjoy the reunion and the idea of love triumphing in the end, but without that arc, it just seemed too accepting of his bad actions.

      @@InsertReviews I get your point but I think you miss an important part, he is not a person but a god, so him destroying everything is not like a man killing other men but his pain destroying him from the inside effects the created hence the corruption. So it was not an act of malice but a natrual consequence of him feeling so much pain.

    • @InsertReviews
      @InsertReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheNemkris Yeah that might be fair. I didn't really think of it as a consequence of him being a god so much as deliberate malice on his part. But I like your interpretation better lol, so I might have to rethink the ending.

    I think you have very informative videos that let me decide if the game is for me or not, which is cool, and you also explain a lot of the gameplay mechanics, which is also cool. However, a small feedback: as someone that doesn't speak english, i struggle to understand some of the stuff you're saying because sometimes you talk too fast. Obviously 99% of your viewers are native english speakers, but still, i just wanted to point this out. Not trying to troll you or anything, because your videos are good. Probably someone will say "Hey, I'm from [insert country here] and i can understand him 100%. You're just a dumbass", well...maybe that's just me. I don't know. Anyway, nice vid. I'll probably get this game on PS Store today

      Yeah I haven't really played Heroes of Hammerwatch, but from my understanding, they have a lot of similarities in terms of overall structure. I think runs in Children of Morta are shorter and it might be slightly less grindy, but I'm not entire sure.
