If your swing is already good it’s not much use. The worse your swing the easier the app finds major problems in it you can work on. I am not very good and I haven’t really recorded my swing before. I put one video into the app and it showed me I was over the top, dipping head in downswing and straightening my right leg too much on the backswing. When I looked at the videos and tips to improve these things it did really help. It also makes a newbie understand the swing more. My take is if you are new to the game it is a really good aid to get a bit better and have more understanding, because not everyone can afford lessons. Nor do they get into it easily to want to pay for the lesson’s because it’s so hard in the first place and they give up 😂
IMO if you want to learn the game, starting with in person lessons much more beneficial and if done in a group much more cost effective. There are a lot of free beginner lessons around!
This thing is awesome for me. I’m a beginner and I can finally see what I’m doing. I am now able to be on plane and I’m at 85% so now I feel that I can share my date with my coach. I’m now going to get a coach to hone in the issues I can’t sold by myself.
This app is good for gross swing mechanics (Shoulder position, hip position, arm positioning, back swing position, etc.) and not the fine mechanics (grip, eye position, club (arm) rotation, striking position, etc). It lets me see some shortcomings in my mechanics that I otherwise would not detect without the AI assistance. It's not the panacea of golf swing tools. But for me it has been very helpful, and made me instantly aware of some changes that i need to make to my swing. Thanks for the review!
I had exactly the same experience. I really loved the app's tracking of my body & club motion, but the actual analysis and recommendations were not good, and I often had poor scores on good ball flight results and good scores on poor ball flight results. I also think that it ignores the effects of age and possible mobility issues. I think if the developers had concentrated more on providing details on the dynamics of each swing, and not on the "score" and the "fix", it would be a far better app.
As a free app, this is great. Able to record and review my swing has it’s benefits. As others have said, it doesn’t know anything about your physical shape. I have had neck surgery and cannot turn very well (and approaching 75 years ) so telling me my shoulder turn is not good is only confirming what I know and deal with. However, it has given feedback on tempo, which alone is an important part of the swing. That has helped me better control my tempo, and minimise the fast swings. Even if I just control a tendency to speed up, it is effective. No doubt AI will continue to improve.
Your analysis is right. Nevertheless, I think the app provides factual hints on certain swing differences between what you do and what it could be. An early extension will definitely be something to fix, contrary mabe to a less pronounced wrist hinge.
Without it knowing your mobility, preference, grip, ball flight etc, it doesn’t know what to change in order to improve the ball flight or strike. But you might get lucky.
Basically it helped to identify the fault (Which was not easy for me to identify before).. I then used this to try and self diagnose the cause. Determined the cause was largely due to not getting my weight onto the front side quick enough which made me overcompensate on the downswing by thrusting my upperbody towards the ball. Again, for others.. I would highly recommend to help identify the fault. BUT, you will need to determine the cause(Either self diagnose or with the help of a coach). Its never going to replace a golf coach, but for people on a budget Its a great tool.
The app teaches you about form, your critiques that ball strike is more important is putting the cart before the horse. Ball strike without form is luck
Lots of projects like this being developed. Im involved with one. I think of coaches don’t get on board with AI / VR etc they’ll be left behind. However, if it can’t identify cause, it’s the same as looking at random TH-cam clips. That said, it’s functionality is superb.
I agree, it could be used alongside lessons, but most coaches should give you feedback between lessons online anyway. And for positional things in that sense, i use SportsboxAI
@@OliTuckerGolf mainly cost and limited time. I had lessons in HS when I was on my school's golf team. If I were to seek out lessons again, it would be from a fellow leftie
@@OliTuckerGolf with the cost of living now days, it would be out of my budget also, as the cheapest lesson I can find is about £50 which I know is cheap for what it’s worth and in the long run, it’s just the current times.
I was fairly kind. Good app, but it only looks at the cosmetics and won’t know cause of why a player is in certain positions. Definitely the start of a change in coaching with ai.
So agree with this. The point of an app review is to actually review the app. Not show one swing, then argue theories for the remainder of the video. All i got from this was insecurity and scared the apps gonna take work away. Madness

Thanks for feedback and agree with grip etc. just make sure you relate changes to ball flight and your mobility, otherwise it’s just aesthetics.

the app helped me to finally understand why I slice. great app in my book

Agree can only get better. Curious to know when how it will know cause / effect rather than just positions of a swing. Thanks for feedback!

But it won’t know why you early extend…
Why not follow recommendations and check results
Without it knowing your mobility, preference, grip, ball flight etc, it doesn’t know what to change in order to improve the ball flight or strike. But you might get lucky.
I tried it, and I really helped me as a hacker.
Just make sure you improve the ball flight not just the aesthetics.
Disagree. For mid handicapper .. This has provided the guide for a more consistent swing. I struggled with early extension
Great if it works for you. What reason does it give for early extension?

I don't expect a single PGA coach to say this thing is good

No shit, it's great for beginners
This app is really good as a check-up on your basics in my opinion. It is not good for more advanced stuff.

@OliTuckerGolf not heard of that app I'll take a look but thanks 👍
Seems like it might be way more useful for beginners and mid-high handicappers. I'm gonna give it a go (15 hc)
Curious, What would stop you getting lessons? Cost? Location?

Next time, actually prove the app wrong by taking its advice and seeing where the next ball goes. Thats how you review things, dude.
