How to make a Vocaloid Hologram! (quick, portable, cheap!)

I created this tutorial to show you how to create your very own Hatsune Miku (or any other Vocaloid) concert!
Materials:
- Shoe box
- Plastic (usually a screen protector)
- Tape
- Scissors
- Marker (optional)

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask! I will try my best to help you out!
NOTES----
- if you have one, an old clear CD case will work in place of plastic!
- you can make one for a cell phone, though it will be a little bit harder. You’ll need to cut pieces from the cardboard to make a smaller box sized for your phone!

As someone who will likely never go to a miku concert in my life, the experience of watching them just dance around in a box makes listening to the song so much better like it's crazy how much of a difference the watching experience is versus an iPad screen. Thank you!!
If only Crunchyroll could hear those words, this concert in a shoe box is literally a better presentation than what Crunchyroll did at Miku's latest legitimate concert.

I made my own and it turned out great! I used the hard plastic from a CD case. Here's some extra tips:
1. Coat the inside with black paper
2. Turn your phone/tablet to full brightness when playing the hologram
3. Put your phone closer to the front so the miku is closer to you
4. Play it in a dark room

This was a really guick, simple and fun project to do. I myself did not have a tablet or something similar to use so I thought I would give it a go using my phone, and it worked out great! My list of things I used was so cheap and I had everything I needed already.
I used a empty milk for the box, some scissors, plastic from the front of a box wich I think containd window wipers for cars, I'm not sure about that, and lastly I used tape. It took a few tries to get the plastic right inside the box so the vocaloid characters did not look chubby or not there at all, but in the end, I got myself a hologram box. Thanks a lot for the tutorial!

This worked! I had trouble finding plastic, but here's a tip to make it easier. Plastic bags/baggies/ziplocks etc. Do not work, instead I used the plastic that doesn't let you touch a toy. It has to be flat. Beware, cut with caution or you'll end up like me: cut and hurt. Thanks for this video!

The hologram is make with a phenomenon called Pepper's ghost. Basically, all transparent objects dont let all light pass through. Some are reflected. With a bright enough image and a dark enough background, you can see the image clearly.
Crunchyroll was still unable to do this somehow.
I remember watching this video back in 2018, and now I'm back here to watch this wonderful tutorial again for memories. 💖

DUUUUUDE! I finally found it. I saw this years ago when I didn’t have materials and eventually forgot about it. I had to get a picture frame today and it was the wrong one but we kept it. Now I can use the glass. To paraphrase a great man: “It’s hologramin’ time.”

CONCEPT (feel free to use): a game where you can talk to miku. your tablet picks up your voice. there could be programmed responses to certain things you say (like "who are you" could be "I'm Hatsune Miku, the virtual pop star! It's nice to meet you!"). this could be pretty interesting!
Noted. I'll keep this in mind. When I'm finished earning my computer engineering degree, I'll see if this is something I can do. It's a really good idea, and if I can make a Japanese version as well, it could make a lot of money.

I realized I don't even have half the stuff (the only thing I have is my tablet but its lost and the other 1 doesn't work) (i did it with an amazon kindle in february 2017 but then it broke so yea the screen is messed up)

It's better to use something more rigid than a screen protector like a sheet of plexiglass or glass for the reflective part. I made this and used plexiglass for the screen. Thx for the tutorial, now I have an epic private vocaloid concert :D
