Hi Dan, thanks for your understanding of the chemistry and biology of beard and body health. My beard is healthy due to the 3 years of listening to your advice and others. Coming from a Summer-Time "everyday washer" I can honestly say since I drink more than enough water I see no issues. Now for a winter time 3-4 time washer per week, I only was when I drool or sweat. The biggest difference is when I wash in the winter, it's always more dryer. My area has extremely dry winters and uncomfortable humid sumers. Summer time I strip my beard once a week, twice if I REALLY need it. Working on a softball field and outside I sometimes need it. My stripping wash choice is either Whiskey and Hard Tack or Captain Stash bar soap. I also use a pine Tar soap mainly on my Friday after work. (Luxurious bastard has been my go to but Dr Squatch pine tar bars are absolutely wonderful and very fresh smelling.) My everyday wash used to be LCW by Beard Octane but Alley Cat Beard Co. everyday wash I haven't found nothing my beard loves more. Winter I strip my beard MAYBE every 2 weeks up to even 3. When I strip I always follow up with a conditioner in the winter but I don't feel my beard NEEDS a conditioner in the summer and have completely stopped conditioning in the summer. I'm very happy with the look, feel, density and even more so the way my beard styles since I stopped "Co-Washing." I'm coming up on a year and a half without co washing and I couldn't recommend atleast trying it for a month more. I have at least two, often three showers a day. Morning, after gym or run etc, then after work. My beard is dry because of this, going to get a gentle washa and see how it goes.
I’ve always had a goatee…, never invested in any beard products. About three months or so ago I decided that it was time to grow a full beard. I got the duke cannon beard wash and oil gift set. I definitely feel my goatee cleaner, softer and better. Can’t wait to see my goatee grow into a full beard.
I don’t know if you hear it much but I want to thank you for sharing your beard knowledge. I’m 38 and never cared for my beard at all until this year and I’ve learned so much from watching your videos. I have a few products I use based on your recommendation. I’m for months in and my hair grows very slow so I’m still in the short beard territory, and I’m trying to train it to grow in one direction. It’s all over the place, especially on my cheeks, those hairs grow strait up. Thank you for everything I’ve learned so far. Ps do u have merch? I’d love your logo on my truck.
Reall great information Dan! What I sometimes do, if I don't get too dirty like just a few grass clippings or something, is carefully blow my beard out with an air compressor. I know obviously not everyone has one, but even a little pancake compressor, is so helpful for cleaning numerous items. Obviously staying away from eyes and mouth because blowing high pressure air at orfices is generally regarded as less than optimal. Recommend OSHA approved blow guns and some common sense too.
6.5" beard, typically gentle wash every other day. New to most products, oil hadn't done much for me in the past, maybe not high enough quality. Picking up some Bahawat oil & butter to try to up my beard game.
Hey Dan! This is a fabulous video and very very much needed one! 😎 As far as my routines I like to use Raw African black soap when I want to do a complete strip down but as far as beard washes go… my top two is Fetti Says (Unscented) and Classic Grooming Company (Peppermint & Tea Tree). What I like about these products is instead of using water as the first ingredient they use aloe vera. I just love the feeling that it gives my beard!
I’ve got Beard Octane LcW and AlleyCat wash and a bar soap in rotation. Super happy with this change up. I wash every single day (dirty job and working out)
Oh great. I’m going to have to shell out another 25 cad plus. 😅 Lol I already want to try Bluebeard. Which is gentle. But I’m also eying victory’s beard wash. It does mention deep. But also suggests 2 to 3 times a week 😅
Idk how I missed this video for three freakin' weeks, but I'm super stoked that you mentioned beard octane's lcw, because my first bottle is supposed to deliver tomorrow, and since I hadn't seen anything on your channel about it for the past couple years, I know you stopped cowashing a while back, and I didn't understand the double entendre of conditioner, I was hoping I didn't mess up. I thought it was more of a cowash, and I've never been a cowash fan, but I had to give it a try when I found it on their website during the independence Day sale. I'm absolutely in love with everything that has the ginger jamboree scent. There's just something about that scent in my ginger beard that just seems natural (gingers unite!!). Lol! After hearing that it's just a liquid, everyday wash, I'm even more excited to try it tomorrow, especially after hearing about wnh getting out of the game. I know I say it a lot, but I really appreciate everything you do, man. My beard exists, in large part, because of you, the videos you put out, and the conversations we've had on and off TH-cam. I couldn't have done it without you, buddy! Keep up the awesomeness! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@DanCBearded you're welcome, man. I'm formally suggesting they change the name to slcw (super lathering conditioning wash), because holy soap suds, batman! 😳
Great, great, great video.. Still holding true to the stuff you were saying 2 years ago.. I even reached out to you for help.. I used to wash twice daily because I workout in the mornings and I landscape all day.. You told me rinse in the morning after workout and wash after landscaping.. Great advice, thanks..
Hi Dan C. I enjoy your channel. My routine for years has been Edens cleansing cowash 6 days a week on the 7th day Grandpa's pine tar bar soap rinse then spray apple cider vinegar leave in for a bit then rinse. All my schooling has been from you tube. Thanks for what you do. Take care.
Good content 👌. I wash my beard twice a day once in the early morning and in the evening after I workout. I use a beard wash and oil from Mary Kay and Every Man Jack. I also use beard butter and beard balm for styling. I really enjoy it. I also take vitamins and supplements and I drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
Hello MR C new with all the beard products I used to wash my beard twice a day I’m a truck driver delivering fuel in Miami is hot humid and sweat a lot and I was feeling my beard dry so now what i do is just wash it before bed apply some beard butter and so far is working for me the next day just rinse it with water dry it put some oil and either butter or balm I use weatherbeard and live bearded products thanks for all the info
Right now in the summer at my work I try to rinse my beard in the morning while washing in the evening before bed. Love LCW and AlleyCat. I do also use Beard Octane and WnH bar soap for a stripping wash. Great video Dan!
If I don't want to buy beard wash liquid, can I use beard bar soap instead to get the same benefit???🤔 I use pine tar soap once a week only. But I'm hooked on Honest Amish Xtra Grit black bar soap.Out of 6 days a week I use Neutrogena one day , Honest Amish the next. Alternate each.😢
Soap is great, but it’s stripping and shouldn’t be used more than once a week on beard. Too harsh of a pH (9-11). Highly recommend a daily/gentle beard wash
Everything I know about a beard is from you... So my routine...well it's on point with you... I use BABC as a stripping wash and beard octane as a gentle wash... And every now and then I use a whiskey and hardtack bar soap.....all on your recommendations and my beard is wonderful! Thanks!
I recently got the daily wash bar from Bearded Mack. I would have to agree 100% with you ,I absolutely love it. I also had previously been using Howash BABC's daily. So it sounds like you believe it is a good idea to keep both in rotation. As far as my weekly stripper I do like BABC's as well, but I also still love using Professor Fuzzworthy. I have decided to use a stripper twice a week and see how that works for me. Again, I love your videos, I believe I have learned a lot. I also love the positive energy. I look forward to receiving more of the knowledge you are passing on.
Great info! I really appreciate you clarifying this Dan. The specific examples really help as well. I'm starting to grow a yeard for the second time and I hope to correct some mistakes I made the first time around. This was one of those areas that I had questions on. 👍🏻
Fantastic video Dan! All great tips and facts! 💯💯💯 I wash and use conditioner every other day, with a water rinse only day in between. I use a stripping wash every 2 weeks I have about 5-6 different non-stripping washes in my rotation and about 6-7 different conditioners Some of my favorite washes and conditioners are form: Whisky N Hardtack, Detroit Grooming, Beard Octane, Live Bearded, Artius Man, and a few more 👊🤘
Great video Dan. Very informative and focused on the subject. Really see your passion for this subject in this video. I tend to wash and rinse during the winter versus I wash daily in the summer. All great products you recommended. I would like to see a similar video with conditioners/co-wash. If I am to understand some are thinner, thicker, and include Biotin? How often to use and the amount
I wash my beard every time I take a shower. I use Seven Potions beard wash AND conditioner. When I get out and dry off, I use beard oil. I’ll wait at least five minutes, and use beard butter. I promise, my beard is soft healthy and most importantly, CLEAN!
I should probably get a better gentle wash I currently use baby shampoo. For a stripping wash I use honest Amish beard and body bar soap... love it. As far as frequency I try to wash when necessary. It's summer so if I mow the lawn or jump in the pool maybe mulch the flower beds it's a wash day. I do the stripping wash when my beard feels like it needs it usually once every 7 to 10 days.
Great video Dan! I agree that stripping washes are probably being overused including myself. Looking forward to my LCW arrival. I wash my beard everyday with stripping once a week and using conditioner several days per week.
Another great and informative video Dan. I mainly use LCW, Alley Cat and defined for my gentle every day wash and the pine tar soap for stripping. I was only washing twicew a week and stripping one every two weeks. I recently started washing every other day while still stripping every 2 weeks which seems to be working better for me.
I tried many beard washes and found a brand that works for me. Live bearded has been a good beard wash for me. In Texas I wash everyday to every other day as it is humid and hot here
I use to wash my beard with normal shampoo cause you know it’s just hair but didn’t realize how bad my beard was until I watched one of your videos last week for the 1st time since then I been trying to take care of it like beard wash and oils and omg what a difference it has made in just a wk thank you for your knowledge and sharing it with the world
Love the content as always. My choices are mainly due to your videos and advice over the last few years. I tend to use Seven Potions wash as my every other day beard shampoo routine along with the SP conditioner, although it is very light. I use the Detroit Grooming Beard Poo roughly every two weeks as for me this feels like a stripping wash but then tend to use a heavier conditioner to support that stripping wash (DG 313 is amazing in my beard!). Have just started using a regular DG wash (again, 313 scent) and I will be getting in some LCW from Beard Octane to mix it up. This routine keeps my beard looking and feeling healthy and rarely do I find split ends. Big love from the UK!
Great information, thanks. Currently, I strip with W&H bar soap for stripping every other Sunday. I’m going to add the liquid stripper to my rotation. I wash and condition every Monday, and just wash every other day.
Hey Dan, awesome information in this video that answered some lingering questions for me. I typically wash twice a day because of my lifestyle and occupation. I work out early in the morning and wash after, before work. I work as a heavy equipment mechanic and tend to sweat a lot, especially during this time of year. So, I wash at night after work as well. I can get away with a single wash during the weekends sometimes. Right now I use copper John and beard octane conditioning washes in the mornings and sundaze at night. Usually strip on Friday night with pine tar or WnH bar soap. Not really sure how to get around the 2-a-day washes, seems necessary for my lifestyle. I try to counteract with oil after every wash and butter every night before bed. I only condition once, maybe twice a week though.
context: I only have a van dyke sorta goatee, and I am a broke college student 1. What would be a good budget beard wash? Do I need to get daily AND stripping or can I just get one or the other? If I can just get one type of beard wash, which kind should I get? 2. How to I keep shampoo out of my beard when showering. It always washes down into my beard. (Or is that not even a problem)
1) Duke cannon, likely fine with just that 2) as long as your beard is fully wet and you don’t work the shampoo into your beard, you’re fine. It will just run right off
Hi Dan, I see in your thumbnail holding a Bad Ass Beard Company wash. Was holding to hear your opinion on it in your video. Anyways I got that one and the matching conditioner. Both have great ingredients and results on the beard really good. The consistency on the wash is medium, does not run off your hands like others. Grandpa's Pine Tar wash in the tube is really good too. The matching conditioner is a must also. Keep up the great info videos, Reno aka Manbark here in Maine.
I have to wash everyday. Where I work it's regularly 100°F+/50%+ humidity. I have started working out 3-5 times a week as well. To add to all of that, I don't sweat: I FLOOD. I lose on average 5-7lbs of water weight per workout. I don't stop sweating for at least 45min after my workout. Thank goodness for Bearded Mack Daily and Fable Beard Co.
I couldn’t find the Whiskey and Hardtack Command’s Corner solid beard wash, online. Is it no longer available (video is 6 months old) now that they were bought by The Bearded Mack? I will be doing a lot of traveling for work in 2023, so I want to give this bar a try! Merry Christmas to you and the family!
You beard is very similar to mine but yours is slightly longer and neater I am trying to get on your level....love your tips learned a lot from your channel
Great information as always. I teach and train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu daily so I have to wash my beard daily. I use Beard Octane LCW for my daily wash and Bad Ass Beard Care Beard Wash for my stripping wash. Of course I learned about both of those products from you.
I'm an old geezer (66) and am retired/disabled so not doing much if any sweating or getting my mostly white beard "dirty". I've tried the daily "gentle" beard washes and using a conditioner but it seemed that I was getting a lot of ingrown hairs and or pimples. Now (for the past 6 months or so) I've been using Beard Octane LCW (Neutral) daily and have stopped using any conditioner. Each morning after showering I apply one of the several varieties/brands of beard oil I have on hand and occasionally later in the day or evening I will use straight fractionated coconut oil and or a beard butter as a supplement. Also, when I use approximately half the contents of a bottle of beard oil, I will top it back up with the coconut oil. I don't know if what I'm doing is "right" but it seems to be working well for my beard and I'm of the opinion of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am however open to suggestions so....🤔
Thanks for the video Dan! I’ve been noticing a lot of flaking lately and have learned now, not to use soap or body wash. I have a much shorter beard. Do I still need to strip it or just use a daily wash?
All the washes I use are DanC recommended, with one exception and that being Lux's beard wash. I use Alleycat's daily wash, Whiskey N Hardtack puck beard wash, and Lux's 1886 beard wash. I also use LCW as well. For stripping I use my bar soap by Copperjohns.
I wash daily due to exercise and climate year round. LCW, AlleyCat and WnHT wash bar are my go to dailies. I normally use very light butters, even wax free, and only condition 2-3x a week, so my build up is minimal. I used to do a monthly strip, but found it unnecessary with the daily washing.
My beard wash = cocamidepropyl betaine + capryl glucoside. (and it works just as good as gojo after auto maintenance!). Beard oil? Anything with oleic and linoleic acid, and you cannot go wrong. Hexylmethyltetradocosane is good too. Beard oil's priority is to condition the skin, and then to help the beard. Using a heated comb really drives the oil into the beard. And that's all you need unless you are really into the different scents.
Hi Dan..as always thanks for all the info you provide on beard care..Question..have both DGC.beard wash..are they safe for daily use..confused with one having activated charcoal and one not..thanks..JP
Their old wash (not around anymore) with activate dcharcoal is not a daily wash. That is 2-3 times a week max. Between a stripping wash and a daily wash. Their regular beard wash (especially the new one) is gentle/daily.
Just received today there 313 beard wash ..saying activated charcoal on label..is this a new formula for daily or still stripping..sorry so many questions..again thanks
I wash 3 times a week with H.A and rinse every other day sometimes 4 depends on how dirty beard is I am looking for a gentle wash will try LCW I do have some splits ends but maybe a few here and now again. Thanks Dan great info on gentle wash!
Great video as always dan. I actually recently changed my wash routine. I actually wash my beard before work now and then when I get home I rinse and but in oil/butter. I don't use conditioner every time I wash. I use conditioner maybe every other time I wash. When I use my stripping wash, I make sure to use a conditioner. I only have 1 stripping and that is from WnH.
As for stripping my beard I use blue Dawn .. they use it on oil spills to clean the aquatic animals and it really strips .. again like you say once a week at most .. I'm just going to start to get into the oils and gentle daily washes .. wish me luck .. watching your program so we'll see how all this turns out .. expecting my first beard wash and grooming kit on the 10th ..
@@DanCBearded my beard is a bit of a raggedy ass situation right now I haven't really taken care of it but now I'm looking to get serious and if I can get a beard half as full as yours and it's good looking I'd be so ecstatic .. they said earlier I got a kid coming and from that day forward we'll see and I will be coming to you for tips
My concern about washing daily is this: I already have a very hard time with controlling my beardruff. I know that washing your hair daily drys your scalp out and causes dandruff - which is exactly why dermatologists tell you “Don’t wash your hair more than twice a week.” Are beards different? And can you recommend an excellent beard oil that’ll help me control my beardruff more effectively?
Yes, beards are entirely different and dermatologists spend exactly 0 days in dermatology school going over beards or the skin under it. If you have beardruff, you are: - not washing enough - not drinking enough water - not exfoliating daily - using low quality products - using too much product Ant combo of those Try this oil: Doctor Nicks= www.doctornicks.com/danc * DANC = 15% off
Great videos Dan! Is Every Man Jack beard + face wash stripping or daily use. The bottle says “Gently cleanse and condition your beard and face while hydrating skin.” You recently posted a video on all their products and I think you said it was stripping. If it is stripping, do they make a daily? I got a box set and really enjoy it.

That is awesome to hear!
Thank you for the kind words. Yes we do! www.etsy.com/shop/BeautyandtheBeardMI

Makes sense!
@@DanCBearded 🙂
Thanks for all the information.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching Thomas
6.5" beard, typically gentle wash every other day. New to most products, oil hadn't done much for me in the past, maybe not high enough quality. Picking up some Bahawat oil & butter to try to up my beard game.
Oil for sure should be a game changer!
Very helpful!
I appreciate that!
That’s a great option for stripping days!
Badass video as always, Dan!
You rock!
I’ve got Beard Octane LcW and AlleyCat wash and a bar soap in rotation. Super happy with this change up. I wash every single day (dirty job and working out)
Sounds perfect!
Awesome, much needed video. Been wanting one like this since I know wash stripping power can vary so much.
I’m glad. Thank you!
This video and the information it contains has been crucial to the process I’m currently undertaking in developing my gentle daily wash!

Oh great. I’m going to have to shell out another 25 cad plus. 😅 Lol I already want to try Bluebeard. Which is gentle. But I’m also eying victory’s beard wash. It does mention deep. But also suggests 2 to 3 times a week 😅
Stick to once a week for the deep 🤝
@@DanCBearded ok 👍
Thank you brotha!! Enjoy that wash 🤝

Take care.
Thanks Joseph!
Awesome Kenneth!

I've been using Grandpa's Pine Tar soap for stripping but have been thinking about trying the beard octane bar soap. Is it pretty awesome?

Been using Beard Octane Citrafella SAE on a daily basis. Amazing lather. Will probably be adding a few more to be able to rotate. Thanks Dan.
Awesome Paul!
Thanks! Now to figure out which beard wash to buy!🤦🧔
Everything I know about a beard is from you... So my routine...well it's on point with you... I use BABC as a stripping wash and beard octane as a gentle wash... And every now and then I use a whiskey and hardtack bar soap.....all on your recommendations and my beard is wonderful! Thanks!
I really appreciate that and your beard proves it works!
Nice video. Wash my beard everyday because of work. Do a stripping wash once a week.
Sounds perfect!
I have to was daily. I work in a dusty and hot warehouse I use a gentle wash 6 days and then I use a stripping wash on Sunday.
Perfect rotation for your specific situation! Thanks for sharing
Your fable beard scent is fire bro
Thanks man!
I just started washing my beard everyday with the lcw and the only time I don't wash is if I throw in a rinse day when I dont get sweaty or dirty.
Love it!
Awesome man!
I recently bought lcw and love it!! I use it 2-4 times a week. Strip every Saturday when I start a new oil profile.
Heck yeah. That’s awesome!
Great info! I really appreciate you clarifying this Dan. The specific examples really help as well. I'm starting to grow a yeard for the second time and I hope to correct some mistakes I made the first time around. This was one of those areas that I had questions on. 👍🏻
Awesome! Glad it could help
Fantastic video Dan! All great tips and facts! 💯💯💯
I wash and use conditioner every other day, with a water rinse only day in between. I use a stripping wash every 2 weeks
I have about 5-6 different non-stripping washes in my rotation and about 6-7 different conditioners
Some of my favorite washes and conditioners are form: Whisky N Hardtack, Detroit Grooming, Beard Octane, Live Bearded, Artius Man, and a few more 👊🤘
Absolutely appreciate you sharing and helping Phil!
Super proud and passionate about this one. I will write down the conditioner video idea, thank you!
I wash my beard every time I take a shower. I use Seven Potions beard wash AND conditioner. When I get out and dry off, I use beard oil. I’ll wait at least five minutes, and use beard butter. I promise, my beard is soft healthy and most importantly, CLEAN!
That’s great Brian!
Thanks Mike!
Thanks for this video, been waiting for something like this. Enjoy your channel.
Glad to hear, thank you Patrick!
Fantastic video Dan. Thank you for all you do for the bearded community and brotherhood.

@@DanCBearded yes sir it is been about 2 wks now and it’s a total different beard all together
Awesome feedback and help, thank you!!
I use Castile soap to wash my beard. It’s the least aggressive.
Oh man, that’s just not true. Castile soap has a pH between 9-11 and that’s stripping
@@DanCBearded I heavily dilute with water and find it works well.
Great video Dan. I strip my beard every other week. I use Beard Octane LCW every day.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback Dean!
Great information, thanks. Currently, I strip with W&H bar soap for stripping every other Sunday. I’m going to add the liquid stripper to my rotation. I wash and condition every Monday, and just wash every other day.
Awesome Dee!
Awesome feedback and help, thank you Mitch!
context: I only have a van dyke sorta goatee, and I am a broke college student
1. What would be a good budget beard wash? Do I need to get daily AND stripping or can I just get one or the other? If I can just get one type of beard wash, which kind should I get?
2. How to I keep shampoo out of my beard when showering. It always washes down into my beard. (Or is that not even a problem)
1) Duke cannon, likely fine with just that
2) as long as your beard is fully wet and you don’t work the shampoo into your beard, you’re fine.
Thanks for the feedback! The BABC stripping wash is fantastic

I have to wash everyday. Where I work it's regularly 100°F+/50%+ humidity. I have started working out 3-5 times a week as well. To add to all of that, I don't sweat: I FLOOD. That’s fantastic to hear! Sounds perfect for your active lifestyle
I am however open to suggestions so....🤔
Sounds like you truly have it dialed in and no need to change at all! Thank you for that great feedback from experience
Hello Mr. Dan. I was wondering what is a good way to keep a dehydrated soap dry?
Remove it from the shower/bath and use a soap save dish. I prefer the metal ones
Dan: thanks for all your great information! I know not to use head shampoo on my beard, how about conditioner? Thanks. Ronald from New York.
No, I do not recommend that either
Thanks for the video Dan! I’ve been noticing a lot of flaking lately and have learned now, not to use soap or body wash. I have a much shorter beard. Do I still need to strip it or just use a daily wash?
I would do daily wash 6 days a week and strip it once a week.

You’re the man, thank you for the helpful comment Ken!
Thanks for the detailed feedback!

If you have beardruff, you are:
- not washing enough
- not drinking enough water
- not exfoliating daily
- using low quality products
- using too much product
Ant combo of those
