I disagreed with Dan on that also. The first beard advice I got when I grew my beard was from George Bruno, and I still follow much of what he advised. I wash with Grandpa's Pine Tar soap twice a week, and co-wash at least five or six days a week with Detroit Grooming Black conditioner, oil with Honest Amish and as far as I know my beard is very healthy at 9" currently. Love Dan's channel as well as yours! Stay bearded!!
This is something that you don’t find a lot nowadays, and it’s called mutual respect. Being able to respectfully disagree on some things, and also promote one another at the same time good video.
Totally agree! I use Copper John's daily conditioning wash every day...and a stripping wash and conditioner once a week. This works just great for me. I've been growing beards since 1976 and am always open to new ideas...but I learned a long time ago...that everyone is different and everyone has a different kind of beard...so I take all the beard gurus on TH-cam with a grain of salt.
My only complaint about this topic is co-washing is conditioning. Not washing. It's like taking a mud bath & expecting 2 get clean. I condition more than wash it cuz my beard needs it
Scuba great to see you. I say what ever works for each person do that. Everyone does things a little differently. I never use conditioner to be honest. I wash 7 days aweek. I want to mske sure my gray white beard doesn’t get stains from food or anything. Scuba I hope you and Hannah and your families have an awesome Christmas 🎄. I appreciate you and all you do
@@Cedrus1952 Think about it. They sell LCW and a conditioner SEPERATE. And nothing else. So it stands to reason, LCW is the wash. Also Dan C Bearded who works closely with beard octane has said as much.
Points taken, though I think DanC has good advice for any guy getting used to the process. It should be called Co-Rising. Most important point I think you would agree is to not massage or scrub in the conditioner (which is really most tempting to do).
Now I’ll say this and it may be misconstrued but it’s honest. I’ve learned a ton from Dan C over the years, and he excels at what he does - but over the past year personally, I have become disappointed by the fact that so many beard companies go to him for advice on viscosity and scent as if he is representative. I won’t name the companies, but people are being influenced to lighten up their carrier blends and produce more citrusy profiles because those are Dan’s preferences. Most that I know and discourse with in this community prefer thicker oils and more manly scents. Thank God for Artius Man, Luxurious Bastard and Honor Brand among others for offering heavier carrier blends and complex deep "non-fruity non-pansy" scents. Just my opinion and nothing more. Great guy, great content, he's made marvelous contributions in developing this community, and in his defense he is always quick to point out that his preferences are just that - His preferences. I just wish his personal preferences had far less influence on some of the companies I used to love. Stay strong; stay manly, stay bearded!
I agree 100, I started doing my very own scents, not for sale, not for resale, not for profit, no personal gain just my own scent profile's, I've taken all the best oil's I've learned about over these last four years, and have a few very good scent combos Tobacco's, oud's, vanilla's, cigar's, some smokey mainly goodness with a small sweet addition's, some are a little Cologne'y smelling but NONE are in a fruity citrus family, well I did make myself a Chocolate Orange, but thats different that don't count! 🤔😎🍻✌🏽
I agree with you on the thickness but all my favorite daily scents are citrus based and I think more companies should make variations of it. Too much heavy fragrance really bothers me. I can wear "manly" cologne on my shirt I don't want it on my face haha
I disagree about the scents. And really? If you like a scent that's light, and not over kill and strong like a grandma's perfume that leaves 6 people dead in an elevator by the time you go 6 floors up, referring to it as panzie?. That's kinda silly. Some men like strong Colonge so overpowering, they think it's gonna attract women. In reality you are probably killing flies and moths.🤦🤣😅😆😅🤣
@only_son5040 Exactly!! Nothing worse than being in close quarters with other people, and one person weather it be a woman wearing perfume, or a man wearing strong colonge, and 6 people are choking,🗣 gagging,🗣 over the fragrance of $.69 cents a gallon toilet water that smells like a French whorehouse!🤦🤣😅😆🤣🚫🦨
I think everyone’s beard is a bit different and only trial and error gives one an idea of when which product should be used. I go by how my beard feels and what I was doing the day before.
If you use a product made to use as a Co-Wash Or you use an “Extra Body” or For “Fine, Thin Hair”, Conditioner it contains a Non Foaming Surfactant or Emulsifier which acts to suspend oils dirt and residue so it can be rinsed away and this leaves the hair conditioned but less coated.
You gotta love Dan's beard, though. I grew a 8" beard way back before I knew beard maintenance was a thing. But then I found George Bruno, Dan and you and managed to wade through the BS and glean the useful stuff. I'm totally happy with the health and appearance of my beard. Thanks to you all!
Ok, I'm new to growing my beard, but should I be using any soap on my face at all? I wash with a bar of Dial, but should I only use that for my body and what should I use for my face? I use daily beard conditioner (The old formula of Scotch Porter) and I haven't bought a wash yet, but I'm about to get the Beard Octane.
Washing with a beard wash would be better, but if that's too pricey u should try a baby shampoo. U should notice the difference instantly. The bar soap, especially dial, is harsh for yo beard.
Love the respect! I work in a shop and sweat like a pig. If I didn’t wash everyday I’d feel gross and shave. Everyone is diff some People need leave in conditioner or condition daily… for me I wash 7 days a week one being a stripping wash lcw other 6. New to the game but big thing for me I don’t see discussed is styling. My beard styles well when conditioner is dialed in.. too much in humidity it’s whispy and frizzy.. not enough it’s flat and sheds more and doesn’t style well. condition every 2-3 washes work for Me… it took me to over condition after I realized I was under conditioning also heavy vs light conditioner is huge if you get clogged pores easily imo. Hope this was constructive.

I fully agree with you. I live in the desert .it is cold and dry here . I co wash 4 time a week it coats my beard so it will not dry out. and i use butter with wax. to seal the hair . works great for me . I use beard octane co wash. and wash.
Cowash are really good but i personally use a natural soap like honest Amish and hair conditioner/ leave in conditioner with either beard oil and or beard balm depending on the length.
I use several different products all week. One day ill wash with Copper Johns daily wash than conditioner. The next day ill wash with Bearded Mack No Cobdition. 3rd day ill use beard octane unscented wash conditioner 4th day Fable cbd wash no conditioner and 5th Detroit 313 wash and Detroit black with biotin. Been doing that a long time. I used to do just Rinse but I didn't like the heaviness of the butter or balm left over. So wash condition one day just wash the other and repeat.
I want to have the absolute softest healthy beard possible... what are some ways to achieve such a feat??? For the record, my beard is already quite soft. However, I wish to be an overachiever...
I agree with you on the co-wash. My beard does like the co-wash, and the cold water rinse seems to help with faster removal of leftover conditioner. I also appreciate your showing Dan C respect even when you disagree on a few things. Great video.
I think Dan C. is great too, but he is a bit sensitive if you ever criticize Beardbrand. Some advice from Dan lately has been contrary to Eric's advice, so I am a bit confused by that (especially since Dan has become an affiliate).
I’ve had my beard for 45 years. Recently fell into the beard product rabbit hole. I get DIRTY everyday. Wash my beard everyday. I no longer use conditioner. Very seldom use beard oil. I do use beard butter after shower.. Beard butter oils make it to the skin. I think using both is redundant.
I'm sure you know this, but I've never seen but a very very few Actual Co-Washes made from Beard Companies. They're just Beard-Conditioner with Co-Wash on the labels. And what Co-Wash do you prefer?
Love both your channels. We need different perspectives on everything in our lives on times. Just one voice can lead to an echo chamber situation, and that can lead you down a garden path with rose coloured glasses on.
First of all, I understand your point of view in your disagreement. Dan is not wrong. However, every men’s beard is different, especially in the skin. It even also depends on those where you live and what you do for a living. Me, I live in a dry climate; I have very oily skin that never dries up. So I don’t do co-wash anymore since it makes a greasy feel in my beard even when I put beard oils. Worst. So I only condition my beard fewer times a week after beard wash. I mostly do daily wash that works excellently with fewer problems of greasy beard and skin. Also, I use less beard oil, balms, or butter. It is an improvement to my skin and beard. So, we all need to adjust what's best and what works for our beards. It is a mistake to copy or mimic other men’s methods and think it works for them. There is more to be said, but this will hopefully bring me to my point. God bless.
I saw Dan C’s Anti CoWash video. 😮 My take is…he's selling beard wash / Shampoo. Motivation is money, not solid advise. Therefore what he stated can’t be trusted.
Ending the year with the greatest beard rivalry of all time lmao 😂 for real though love all the points of views from everyone. It’s healthy for the community. Looking forward to Dans video “Scuba is WRONG about my video of being wrong” 🤣
I’m using live bearded stuff. I got their sample pack first, which has wash, conditioner, oil and balm. You get a very small amount of each. It works pretty well. When I made my purchase for the scent I most liked {American}, the directions say to use a quarter size amount. I don’t. I’m still using the same amount as in the sample size. It’s gonna last me a lot longer.
Thanks for the video. QUESTION though. So Dan C gave reasons for why people shouldn't co-wash. I'm curious, if Dan C is "wrong", what are the reasons TO co-wash? What benefit comes from co-washing?
Main benefit is that it doesn't strip all the natural sebum from your face. Sebum is the best oil for your beard, and all a beard oil does is kind of artificially recreate the sebum. So basically, cleanses your beard, makes the hair more manageable and leaves most of the sebum there
The gym analogy had my dead. I got that sense about him when I saw his video about "inspecting your beard's health" by sticking an A4 paper in your beard to use for contrast to be able to spot split ends. I thought it was a bit neurotic. Part of the reason guys grow beards is to have a rugged natural and even perhaps "careless" look, NOT to acquire more cosmetic concerns/obsessions about it than women do with their hair LOL.
I'm impressed with how this video was done. I especially liked when you brought up the the slippery slope fallacy. Very well done I hope you do more videos like this. 👍🏻
When you work a job like mine, rinsing is just not enough. Co washing is just a conditioner, it's to soften your beard, not to wash it. Just washing and conditioning almost every day works wonders.
I think the biggest problem is that JUST reading the title of the video without context can be misleading. Seems like you both agree on much more than you disagree about. Looking at either of the videos in a vacuum or without digesting ALL of the content within could be a slippery slope into a narrow-minded and incomplete picture of what you’re truly aiming for. Love some of the points you’ve made! Gonna check out some more of your stuff. 🤙🏽
I've always just used normal shampoo , rinse nornal conditioner, rinse and beard oil never had an issue , the information Dan gives is phenomenal mostly but its like for students or potential beard company people sometimes if its simple and works for you stick to it 😂
Everything Dan said is true I was hoping he said it years ago I was tripping balls when he was promoting co wash I thought it was the stupidest thing I have ever heard how the hell do you was with conditioner makes no sense it’s like my grandpa said you either wash it with beard wash to strip then you condition optional then after you apply your oils and what not that’s what you get them for or you just wash with hot water that’s it remove all the gunk and what not now if you work in jobs that get your beard dirty then you wash daily conditioner mabe 3 times a week because a beard is like a filter so you get all this stuff just by walking around talking to people that spit saliva as they talk ext. but that’s all if you really wana be that detail the other side is with your videos which are hey this is what I try this is my experience it’s good try it you don’t get into the full detail which is why I like your channel more over dan c bearded because I always had the problem of searching up videos on things I wanted a straight foward answer which is what you give the people and my beard is like yours so obviously I go with you now if I wanted to grow my beard super long then I get into dan c detail videos either way both of you combined is dope I love it 2 different perspectives it’s awsome hope you make more videos together that would bring the community closer 2 content creators coming together for the bearded community
I wash my beard with soap if im not washing my hair and if I'm washing my hair I use shampoo. Lol I've been doing that for 20 years. Very seldom if ever getting in growns or pimples. I weld/fabricate and repair pumps that pump anywhere from crude oil to saltwater all the way to actual shit. Sometimes I have to use dawn to clean my beard. Have a heart attack about that. Lmao People compliment my beard all the time too. I will stick to what works. GL out there guys.
Thank you for your clarification on this. I was very confused when he said this. I normally co-wash at night every night since I live in FL and its hot every day which brings out a lot of sweat. I've never had any skin issues under the beard.
Ally thoughts that are negative aside, Dan c is smart there's no doubt, he also knows marketing and all the other sides to what he does. ( Nothing wrong with that) Now with that said there are many more topics he speaks about like this co wash topic that he is way off on. I believe this isn't a beard type scenario either. I believe it's across the board. Yes with certain things different beard types you do have to take an account for but I don't believe co wash is one of them. It's like him saying growth oils are a scam then turning around and now supports the companies that sell them and push them himself. I get it he does this as a job but where does the line get drawn? Money vs trust
I do think a wash or foaming conditioner wash or what have you is the best option. Something that's cleans lightly and conditions lightly. Seems to be best for the actual health of the beard and skin
You must never have done any manual labor in your life… I’m a machinist and get sprayed with coolant lube for the spindle and cutting tools every time I open up the door of a cnc machine, mechanics who are laying under cars and having oil or tranny fluid or gear oil or power steering fluid drip in there beard…. I could go on for hours here…
He’s the most narcissistic arrogant guy of all time. He calls himself the “trusted teacher” 🤣 basically saying trust in me I’m right always. A lot Teachers are narcissists
Godam haters . Dan c simply spits FACTUAL SCIENCE, that he spends a lot of time researching to be able to make the content and help people in there bearded journeys. The Unwanted Gym Advice Guy comparison is SPOT ON! I had to quit watching Dan C because of his personality. He spits subjective opinions as facts and is non-stop. My beard AND my wallet have been healthier since I quit watching him.

Then I find out some online beard companies WON'T LET YOU CANCEL YOUR OWN FUCKING ACCOUNT!!! That is when I stopped buying online facial products. PERIOD!!!!!

Can we get NASA to weigh in on this?
I've always just used normal shampoo , rinse nornal conditioner, rinse and beard oil never had an issue , the information Dan gives is phenomenal mostly but its like for students or potential beard company people sometimes if its simple and works for you stick to it 😂
How often do you you use LCW?
I smell a collab.
Let's have facts Dan is out for himself only plain and simple
Companies go to him and his advice is for him only
Scuba's beard is awesome, Dan's beard is awesome too. Two different style but each style suits you well.
I wash my beard with soap if im not washing my hair and if I'm washing my hair I use shampoo. Lol
I've been doing that for 20 years. Very seldom if ever getting in growns or pimples. I weld/fabricate and repair pumps that pump anywhere from crude oil to saltwater all the way to actual shit. Sometimes I have to use dawn to clean my beard. Have a heart attack about that. Lmao
People compliment my beard all the time too. I will stick to what works. GL out there guys.
I got a bunch of automotive grease in my beard the other day and I used the dawn spray bottle stuff to get it out. It actually worked really well lol
Saves money as well. Buying all this beard stuff can get expensive.
Other things that Dan C. got wrong 1) not enough tattoos, 2) all criticism is inherently bad.
Both you and Dan C make fantastic, helpful content, but I'm DEFINITELY team co-wash! I've found it's the best way to maintain and work with my beard.
What is co wash?
It's just a conditioner that they renamed
I just don't see how cowashing does anything other than use the conditioner to trap filth in your beard.
Seth Rogan with a beard another one of my favorite beard youtubers.
Use Beard Octane LCW and don't worry about it.
Beard wars
Money vs trust

looks like he took that vid down
I do think a wash or foaming conditioner wash or what have you is the best option. Something that's cleans lightly and conditions lightly. Seems to be best for the actual health of the beard and skin
Great video all in all. Love these style topics and conversations.
I got blasted in the face a couple days ago with gas while working on a truck. Talk about bad chemicals in the beard! 🤣
Legends 🙂
All I could think about for half the video was…. What job do you have that gets LUBE in your beard 🤣
I could go on for hours here…
Keune Pure Oil is the best oil in the world for beard !!! It is not for skin but for beard hair !!!!!!!
You need more adidas stuff, you don’t have enough 😁😁😁
dan c so right tho.
Purse swung. Haha
He’s the most narcissistic arrogant guy of all time. He calls himself the “trusted teacher” 🤣 basically saying trust in me I’m right always. A lot Teachers are narcissists
He doesn't call himself that. Some of his first TH-cam followers started calling him that.
No he did
Godam haters . Dan c simply spits FACTUAL SCIENCE, that he spends a lot of time researching to be able to make the content and help people in there bearded journeys. He’s obviously a very kind hearted good family loving Man. This world would be a lot better wit less hating souls like yourselves. AND MORE Dan c’s to take time out of his life to help other people in somethjng a a lot of men are on the same journey of the bearded. FACTSSSS go slurp down some hatorade at the mvh haterbowl.
Stop causing problems 😂😂😂😂😂
The Unwanted Gym Advice Guy comparison is SPOT ON! I had to quit watching Dan C because of his personality. He spits subjective opinions as facts and is non-stop. He comes across as a know-it-all and honestly a shill for all the oils. A Chicago comb, pine tar soap, 313 conditioner, and a good oil (I like Lux Bastard) is all I need. My beard AND my wallet have been healthier since I quit watching him.
He is a diva fo sure
😁👋
LET THE WAR BEGIN!! 🤣 but I think @Dan C Bearded is right on this one like u said throughout the day your getting stuff on your beard from your job or whatever then if u go home and cowash your sealing that stuff in... Wash your damn beard or I'm telling your Mom!👍😊
I know Dan C is wrong on this one.
@@Cedrus1952 Thats your opinion 👍
@@Cedrus1952 Maybe he's wrong for your beard. You can't make a blanket statement saying he's wrong.
@@Michael_AvsFan354 I sure can...I just did it. The boy is just flat wrong...and not the first time whatsoever. Carry on.
@@slipbobberwilli Well no joke Sherlock!
1st??

It's too bad you and Dan are straight, you would make a good power couple.
I have spent during years a lot of money for beard products, and my opinion is that U don't really need it. Period.
I use to use a online shaving company & had to cancel my bank card just to stop them from taking the money out of my account. Fast forward & I have a nice beard & mustache going. Then I find out some online beard companies WON'T LET YOU CANCEL YOUR OWN FUCKING ACCOUNT!!! That is when I stopped buying online facial products. PERIOD!!!!!
No Dan c certainly doesn't look like a gym guy lol
Be careful he might block you 😂😂
Dan has been known to block i can attest to that.
Great post and you are correct @DanCbearded has some great content and has helped me a bunch on this beard journey as well as yours has! I tried alot of products when I first started on this journey and and my favorite is @IowaBeardCo, it was my game changer I use all of there products and @justbritt has been great to work with.. Try IOWA BEARD CO
