Double-click anywhere within your footer, and position the cursor where you want the page number to appear. Use the Current Position setting in the Page Number menu (Insert>Page Number>Current Position) and choose from the gallery.

If you are working on the main document view, the header and footer view will be washed out.
Headers and footers will look correctly in Print Preview.
