- The Hello Garden work van has been hard at work with multiple plant hauls! First up is a snippet of shade-loving container plants I’ll be using in client gardens. Impatiens, begonias, fuschias and loads of texture! And let’s cap it off with a little design on the fly too.
Happy gardening!

Kate I could watch you design containers all day long! You select the most gorgeous, interesting, and different plants and it works. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your passion with us!
Connie, I'm so touched. Thank you for being here and encouraging me to keep going on this TH-cam journey! Your support is so appreciated. Big hugs!
Loved this so much!!! I want you to play around with so many more creations. Would love to see some of the silver and white for shade too! Can’t wait for the sun lovers!💚
Coming soon! And I'm always worried I'm going to bore you all as I drone on with one million container design options. I guess that isn't likely to happen any time soon!
My goodness, I agree…I’m like oh no the video is ending I want to see her make more containers…so fun!
Awww… you all make me feel like a million bucks!
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your expertise and wisdom but frankly the outtakes were the best!!!😂
Ha ha ha! I was mildly embarrassed, but also laughing hysterically at myself. So why not add them? It's only going to live on the internet forever... ha ha ha!
I have a unique situation by my front entrance. One side of my doorstep is in sun and the other in shade. I’ve solved it by using similar colors in plants that like sun and part sun/shade. It took a while to figure out but I’m finally happy with the results.
That is SUCH a good point. So many of us have various conditions within a close proximity and it can be a huge challenge. Color is the #1 way to tie them together. Also, looking for things like Sunpatiens that can be planted in both conditions is a great way to bridge the arrangements.
Ah! I love the impromptu container design run thru! I need all these! Thanks for the inspiration!! - love your Van of Pleasures 😂 I can't even
Ha ha ha! I know better than to film when tired... I never know what's going to fly out of my mouth. 🙄 Glad to bring some light-hearted giggles to all my garden people out there. Ha!
Oh Kate, Those flowers are just stunning. I never would have thought to put those colors together. Great ideas. I am going plant shopping to see what I can find with your ideas. I’m tickled with the ideas. Thanks so much. ❤Pat
Hi Pat! I'm so happy you found them inspiring. One of these days, please say "hi" if we run into eachother. ☺️
I love how you describe and talk about plants! Cant wait to try these combos! Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you so much for watching! If you use any of them and want to send me a picture, please do! It's been so fun to see photos from new garden friends made here on youtube!
More bloopers, please!! That was so funny-cute at the end, lol! 😅❤🌿😎
Oh Brian is going to have a field day with this comment… I have so many bloopers. 🙄 He left in all my dorky comments and gasps in the most recent video.
😂love the bloopers and of course ALL the pretties🌿❤️
Ha ha ha! I really was on a roll with my outtakes. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Kate! Kate! Kate! You are an amazing artist and teacher!! I can't wait to get out into my garden this morning! Heartfelt hugs!

Awwww... Dawn. You make me feel like a million bucks! Thanks for watching and supporting my TH-cam adventures. Big hugs!!!
AMAZING! Such eye candy!! Love your selections.
Ooooo pretty combinations!!! How fun!!
I installed some of those today and they turned out SOOOOO good. I'll see if I can work the footage into a video this week!
Kate your laugh is so infectious! Love seeing your creativity and passion for gardening. Great ideas and I will certainly be taking some of your suggestions when making my own containers this season. Hi from NJ 👩🏽🌾 Ava
Hey New Jersey Ava! 😊 I love a good laugh… and I’m definitely not afraid to laugh at my own ridiculousness.
Van of pleasures. Lol!! Thank you for all these ideas. Putting pots together is loads of fun. Now we just need the sun to come back after a couple days of needed rain, hey? I'm in Washington too - SW corner.
I mean... I shouldn't be allowed to speak after a full work day. Ha! And yes. I would love just a smidge more sunshine. Today it's absolutely dumping rain!
I love your videos, Kate! The camera angles, the editing show off your fun personality.
I've gardened more than 30 years so thought I knew a lot, but it's only in the last several years I've learned so much from content creators such as yourself.
I'm chomping at the bit for our garden centers to flesh out their plant inventory. It's still too early here in Minneapolis. But I'm prepping the beds in anticipation of what's to come.
You know who has been reading this comment to me over and over all weekend? Brian. 🤣 He says "thank you". I would say that 95% of the amazing camera work and editing is all him. He is the best! He's also the one encouraging me to include all of my silly and goofy quirks... even though I think I'm a big, embarassing dork. Thanks for watching and being along for the ride.
Fabulous! Such great eye you have!
Ok my question is- what about pot color? A lot of mine are greys and neutrals… but have a couple Sage green with a terra cotta accent. How do you incorporate the color of the pot or do you? Love your channel!!! ❤
Your bLoopers were hilarious!!!!
Oh man! I'm going to do an entire video on container selection. In short, I think you can slice it any way you like. I enjoy keeping my containers neutral (think white, black, charcoal, metallic, black clay terracotta) and mixing patterns and shapes for visual interest. However, I also adore a bright container too! Turquoise are always a great selection because you can pair practically anything with it. In your case, with containers that are sage with terracotta, you can do anything. If you look at my dining patio, I have white and cobalt containers and I never feel pressured to include blue. I just do whatever I want. 🤣
Thanks for another super helpful and inspirational video. Perfect timing since I have a large shade container that is dominated by a Japanese forest grass. Loved how you placed the combination
S around it. Gave me so many ideas. Wondering if I can divide the forest grass to make more space for other plants, and maybe replace the soil with some new fresh mix?
Oh I LOVE forest grass in a container and now is the perfect time to divide it. It does tend to take over a container so I always remove large chunks to keep it in check. Once removed, add some fresh potting soil and you're off to the races!
great video, really nice container designs they were all beautiful!!! not much shade here but beautiful colors in the container. thank you for sharing with us. have a great day!!!
Ya know... it is never lost on me that people take time to watch and comment. In a fast-paced world, it just means the world to me. Thank you so much for being here!
I want to hang out with you. 😂 You have such a good sense of humor and I’m learning so much about pairings.
Awwww... I love this community we are building. I have dreams of a Hello Garden shopping day at a local nursery... I could help everyone pick out flowers for their garden!
Thanks so very much for the advice and inspiration.
It is totally my pleasure! Thanks for watching! ☺️
out takes are 😅!! Love and have used the template tip and it is very effective!
This is what happens when I'm absolutely exhausted from work and filming into the evening. Ha! So glad you watched to the end and got to enjoy my chaos. 🤣
I love shade plants! Great examples, Katie!
Thank you friend! 🌱
Absolutely beautiful selection 🍃🌸🍃
I am so filled with inspiration... and this is just the beginning of the season!
Sure hope I can find that Autumnal Fushia! Will you be showing us the final arrangements? Yes please!! 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦
I found it!!! And I bought two flats. Ha! I'm like a shopaholic this time of year. OH! I filmed a little footage today and will work it into one of the other videos this week. The shade containers I installed are FABULOUS.
@@HelloGarden Awesome! 🇨🇦
These combos are all stunning!
Thank you! I'm so lucky to have fabulous growers to source from.
Hi, isn’t it too cold still in the PNW to plant out impatiens and fuchsia? Love all the plants! 😊
Great question! These have all been hardened off carefully and are doing well. I historically plant the last week in April at the earliest and start with more protected locations (up against homes, in courtyards, under entry covers, etc.)
@@HelloGarden thanks for the reply! I’m going to start hardening off my plants 🙂
I just love seeing these beautiful combination possibilities, SO inspiring. I'm ready to get started on a couple of pots this morning. Thanks Kate!
You're so welcome! I'll send all my best garden juju your way. ☺️
Love all the beautiful combinations. Thank you for sharing your talents.
It was totally my pleasure. I'm so excited to keep bringing you inspiration!
Thank you for the shade planting inspiration *immediately heads to garden centre 😊
Those outtakes are hilarious 😂
Ha ha ha! I was laughing hysterically. The things that fly out of my mouth... 🤣
Awesome combos!
Glad you like them! And thanks so very much for watching. ☺️
That was fun!
Awww... thank you! It's hard to stop me once I get rolling. Ha!
Fantastic!!!
Thank you! 💞
❤
💕
I have very little shade, but I still enjoyed seeing all these beautiful plants 😎
Oh good! It's all about inspiration and opening our minds to new exciting possibilities!
I have one shade container and I find myself using the same plants every year. Lovely, but it’s time for something more inspired. This video was so helpful. Your outtakes are hilarious, feel free to end all your videos similarly. 😂🚐🌱
Ha ha ha! Say no more... Brian loves to include bloopers. Thanks for watching and coming along!
