I wish I bought twice the amount of the rift blue from my wholesaler! I should really do a top 10 plants from this season. It would definitely be on that list!
Wow! Such beautiful containers and amazing explanation of your planting philosophy! If you don’t already have a book on container planting, you should write one. You demonstrate and explain so well! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!🙌👍❤️
Writing a book is totally on my vision board. I’m an avid reader and writer so this is something that is on my heart to create. I just need a publisher! 💕
@@HelloGarden Excellent! I think you just wrote a chapter in today’s video! I’ll be waiting to hear more news from you on this! I’m confident it will be a success! 👍👍👍
Love the interesting pot arrangements. Helps me get a better idea of what I need to pick up at garden center. Fun to see all the different varieties of plants as well. I learn something new every video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.🌻🌻
Ooooooo... I should introduce you to radius plantings in square containers. I've started doing them and I'm OBSESSED. Also, FYI, I just made that term up. As per usual. Ha!
I could hear your voice whispering in my ear, Kate, as I filled a front porch container. I knew it needed one more special plant, so I dug up a small fern from my garden. Voilà, a perfect finishing touch! You are such a wonderful teacher! 🩷
Your plant combinations have really inspired me to step outside the ordinary this year. I’ve always enjoyed gardening but you’ve motivated me to a higher level!
Wow I have learned so much from your videos 🪴❣️ Such beautiful arrangements! Wherever you get your plants from are so healthy looking. Love your videos!
I source from a few different wholesalers and I’m trying to get permission to film on property! They do such a fabulous job. 💕 And thank you for supporting me by watching and commenting! It makes a HUGE difference for a growing channel like mine.
After seeing the double inpatients, I can't go back. That is all I get now. They perform amazingly and look like a bed of little roses. They spread too in my zone anyway, 8A.
I love Blackie sweet potato vine, for me in zone 7b it’s very aggressive, I call it my bully plant, it takes over the container it’s beautiful in fall with pumpkins around it!!
I love the way you show doing😂 containers, I found you from Janey, and I’m really appreciating that you use both perennials and annuals..I love learning….I’m in my sixty’s, but never too old to learn new things..u tube gardening has become my own personal garden club.😊 thank you.
Those arrangements are so beautiful. I will have to come back to this video next year. In two of my containers I’ve stayed away from Boxwood as they are totally being decimated by the boxwood caterpillars/moths in my area. I bought the PW Inkberry holly. They are globular in shape but I use an obelisk to surround it to give it visual height for now. 🌸🇨🇦
Thanks for another inspirational video, and again the timing is perfect. Just picked up a bunch of annuals and perennials to attract hummingbirds, so right now the plants are placed in the pots and I am watching to see how I like it. As usual you gave me some great ideas and I will add some Japanese forest grass as well. ❤
Oooooo… yes! I love hummingbirds so much. I noticed that my cut flower garden has doubled my hummingbird population. Totally an “if you build it, they will come” moment.
I think square containers are so difficult to design so I avoid using them. Kate, you've given me permission(?), courage to try unusual pairings. The other day, I had a tray of Jazzberry supertunias and a nemesia 'Tropical' nearby. I loved the color play between the raspberry blooms with the nemesia's orange slash rose delicate blooms (I wish I'd bought more than one of that color nemesia because it's so beautiful). To a very tall black round container, I put the above plants with a dichondra 'Silver Falls' and an elephant ear corm. 😱 I have this container next to my newly painted front door in a color similar to 'Once In a Melon' echinachea. I had the elephant ears on hand, but I really wanted to find a striped-leaf canna.
A lot of these combos were used on properties where I can’t film (they are private homes). But I’ll see if I can get permission to share pictures! I always want to be respectful of my clients and their properties.
I’m sure you know this but don’t let creeping Jenny loose from the container, she’s a spreader. She is currently growing through my lawn and into my flower beds. While it’s a nice ground cover she eats anything in her path so I’m constantly pulling her away from my other plants, flowers and shrubs. Again she’s not a BAD plant to have around but she’s definitely prolific. 💐💚🙃
Love watching these container videos. I have the idea to put 2 massive (like 3ftx4ft) containers at the end of our driveway and fill them with beautiful shade loving plants. The planters will get some morning sun, but shade most of the day. My issue is coming up with deer resistant plants that I can set and forget for the most part. Zone 6 Western PA. Any ideas........anyone?
Thank you for your time, expertise and teaching style! I learn SO MUCH from your videos Kate.🌻🦋🐝 Do you think I can divide prince tut and caladium so I can make 2 containers instead of one? I don't want to kill either of them. I saved up for these babies. I chose elephant ears, prince tut, caladium and dichondra falls for an arrangement ... your thoughts??? Thanks, Tonia in SE Michigan 6b
Haaaard question. I would only do it if it has barely broken dormancy or if it was still dormant. Since you saved up for these babies, let them be big and full and enjoy the heck out of them! You made FABULOUS choices. 💞
If you plant your containers that full what happens as they get established and put on some growth? It seems like they would grow together so much that you might lose some of the textures or colors. Also, how long will the containers last?
I loooove it when my containers knit together. But I’m also in there directing their growth and shaping it. I’m going to do a container maintenance video and talk about it.
Great question! It might be too wet in the center. Do you water it close to the crown? If so, move farther out. I place mine on the edges of containers and only water around the plant… no issues. Hope that helps!
That rift blue lobelia was new to me, gorgeous!

Thanks for showing so many plant options and so many light levels. I’m learning so much from you!!
Yay! I absolutely refuse to tell people you either have sun or shade. This world has so much nuance and we get to play with all of it!
