I love your planting container! Is it a real wood log or just a real good replica of one ? It would go perfectly with my rustic garden. 🌺💚🙃
It’s 💯 real! It’s from the NW Flower and Garden Festival last year (I did a video tour of that garden and you can see it there). Brian hollowed out a cedar tree stump from my brother’s property on Bainbridge island.
To be perfectly honest when you start filling the container with plants I’m thinking boy I’m not going to like that, by the time you add all of the other plants your container is BEAUTIFUL ! All of them end up being beautiful! 🌺💚🙃
Sometimes I have the same thought. 🤣 And then you add just the right touch and it becomes magical!
Beautiful interest in all the containers! Great choices of plants! You always find the most unique ones along with old favorites! 🌾🍂🍁🍂🌾
Thanks so much, Patty! 😊 I love mixing in new choices each year… it keeps my job interesting!
Wonderful combinations Kate 💞
Thanks so much! 😊
LOVE the container! LOVE the arrangements! Your choices blow me away! 🤯 Soft caress mahonia in a pot💡!?! Nandina in a pot💡?!? You’re teaching me to think outside the box. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much 😊 I love that I get to put new ideas out there!
In your shade pot you included the Mahonia (?) and the Snowfever. Do these tolerate dry shade or do they need more moisture? I liked the colors and textures of both but wonder if they can be planted in the shade of large trees.
The hellebore lives to be on the more dry side. The mahonia, once established, can totally do more dry conditions as well.
SLAY, QUEEN!! 👑👑👑 #3 all day everyday, but they were all spectacular in their own way! 🪴🪴🪴
*takes a bow* Thank you, my love. 👑
I really enjoy your container building videos. I’ve already watched this one twice and like the others you’ve made, I’ll keep going back to them whenever I need inspiration. Thanks Kate! My garden says hello back. 👋🏻
Oh I’m so pleased. There are endless possibilities and I’m so glad this helped!
I loved this video. Hearing your thought process on the use of various plants was so enlightening. I’m in 10b and still have my spring/summer containers. I can’t wait to re-do them for fall & winter now.
I’m so happy it helped! I love creating new combinations as it’s so good for my own creativity!
Good morning , Kate! I love, love all your suggestions. I really appreciate how you explain your thoughts when you plan a container. I want to visit your nursery!😁 Your fan from Woodinville!!
Oh hey Woodinville neighbor! 👋🏻 it would be so fun to own a nursery one day. Lots of dreams!
I love that tree stump container. Where did you get it? I find it interesting that you put as many plants in it as you do. I'm enjoying your videos. Thank you.
Brian carved these out and I used them in my display garden at last year’s Northwest Flower and Garden Festival. You can go back and see them in action in my videos from the show. Also, I really pack them in for fall/winter because they don’t put on as much size.
I’m all about my fall planters right now. Love these designs! ❤
Yay! Thank you! 💕
Just got home after an extended trip and my, have I missed your creativity. I'll be catching up on recent past videos too. Love all these container ideas. Eventually your lessons will sink in and mine will get better and better (hopefully).
I’m so happy to see you back in the comments! 💕
Question- could u or would u underplant spring bulbs in that container( love that one u have!)
Heeeeeeeck yes you can do that! I have a container video in the works that will work with layering bulbs. Stay tuned!
Hello!! I just found you and am thrilled since I live near Seattle and garden exclusively in containers. You are so fun to watch 😊
Oh yay! Welcome, neighbor!
This is such fantastic inspiration that I'm going to have to watch a second time. My peri-menopausal brain will not remember all these plant names and the spelling of them in the auto-generated transcript is hilariously useless 😂
My peri-menopausal brain remembers plant names and nothing else. 🤣
Hi I love love your style of creating textures on planters, please create containers that stays from summer to fall please and thanks, from Edmonton Alberta ❤
Oh yes! Are you thinking May-October? If so, many of my summer containers created last year are going strong. These containers I just did should last until May.
Kate, you da bomb! All of them look fantastic! ❤ Garden centers around here don’t carry pansies and violas this time of year 😕 Thanks for the lesson and inspiration 😘 ~ Linda in NY
Awww… thank you friend! Isn’t it fun that you could 💯 do a pure texture planter too? Sometimes limitation makes me the most creative.
Thank you for the inspiration. I needed this video as I have been staring at my containers and my newly purchased fall plants. Now I have a vision of how I want them to look. ❤
Yes! Go forth and create magic
Such a fun little nursery space to have. Thank you Kate for the fall planter ideas. That Bergenia looks like it’ll be a good autumn through to the end of spring a perfect multi season plant.
It’s a fabulous choice and super drought tolerant. You can also divide it super easily!
That was such fun. It was so interesting to hear your process and see the results. Such beautiful options.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😍
Beautiful containers! You gave me so many ideas 😊 Thank you
That was the hope! Have so much fun creating your own!
Kate -- that was amazing!! I don't look at containers the same way anymore. Thank you.
Yes yes yes! I’m so happy I get to spread inspiration!
Not the typical container...Where can we find that container? Thank you
Well that is a special project made by my partner Brian. It’s an old cedar tree stump that he carved out for the NW Flower and Garden Festival! You can see it in the tour of my show garden last year.
I think the last one is my favorite but loved them all. Well done.
I tried to do a little something for everyone. 😊
Love the pots and the thought process. Do you have a link for the black grid on your plant table?
I purchased them from Greenhouse Megastore. They’re called “Durabench” and are 2’x4’. Hope that helps!
You've been holding out on us! We need a tour of your greenhouse!! Beautiful pots!
Ha ha ha! I HAVE. A girl has to have a few secrets. 😊
Thank you Kate . Very interesting to see how just changing up a plant or two can give you a totally new look ! 🌺💚🙃
You are so welcome, Judy! Just changing out a heuchera changes there game entirely.
Oh my goodness...I loved all of them, but I have to say, #3 was super cute!
Oh that makes me so happy. I should have had everyone vote in the comments for their fav.
That all are so interesting and nice, you have a beautiful touch
Thank you so much 😊
I enjoyed this process very much. Thank you.

I love guessing what I’m going to do too! 🤣 Endless possibilities!
Great ideas for containers Kate, love all the variations 💚💚
Thanks so much! 😊
Another great container video! Thanks Kate❤
Yay, thank you! 🪴
Such a fun video and the stump container is so cool!
Isn’t it awesome! It’s from the NW Flower and Garden festival from last year. Brian carved out the stumps for me (they’re cedar).
What a fabulous tutorial. Thank you, Kate!
You are so welcome! 💞
Always fun to learn from you. Thanks.
Well thank you for being here. It honestly fills me with joy to share our garden inspiration!
Personal nursery!!! Love it! Go Kate!
Thank you! 😊 It’s definitely a functional space, but it feels so good to have all these options at my fingertips!
What a fun “class” Kate! Thank you!
You are so welcome! 🪴
